Madison Brick Masonry

The job started the first week of July 2014 when he removed the old bushes with the help of my sons. On July 13 he went flower shopping and started to layout the retaining wall and stack the bricks. Within a few days he told me the caps were on back order. I did not think this was a big deal, because he could still install the first 3 tiers. On July 29th, he finally completed the 15 foot straight section and again said the caps were not in yet. I placed a phone call to the only 2 dealers that carry this brick to determine if there was truely a problem. I learned that the bricks were in fact in stock the entire time, because they were a popular brick. While on the phone with the brick yard, I discovered that the $12 per brick price he quoted me, was almost double what I could have paid myself at the same yard. He started giving me excuses as to why he could not complete the job. They ranged from his back hurt, his blood pressure was too high, and he was busy doing other small jobs. After a lot of texting and calling, he finally came out and dropped off the remaing bricks on September 29th. He said he had to get the saw to cut the caps and would be back. On October 2nd, he completed the retaing wall, but had yet to glue them all. He has never glued all the bricks as agreed to. He now told me he would be back to install the plants and tree. I spent the next couple months texting and calling him to come back and finish the job as agreed to before winter set in. Now mind you, during this time I had a new driveway poured, new gutters and trim, and the yard leveled with new sod installed. On top of that, he was paid in full for the job prior to him completing the retaining wall. He once again gave me excuse after excuse as to why he could not get out to finish. I requested that he refund me the $1000 that was to cover the $800 he spent on plants and a tree plus labor for someone else to finish. He agreed to refund the money, but his partner (wife) told me she would not give me a dime. I spoke to him on the phone in December and he agreed to give me the $800 for materials. He gave me $100 in January 2015 and another $100 in February 2015. Now he refuses to answer my calls and texts. Remember, this was a 1 week job start to finish. It took 3 months to have 20 ft. of retaining wall installed, and plants and a tree he purchased on July 13 were still sitting in their pots at his house. It has now been 11 months and he has not corrected a thing.
