He came and saw the job and then provided a quote. We agreed on the price and time to do it. He called on the day at 11AM and mentioned he is running late and be late by an 1 hr. But he came to our driveway around 2PM and sat in his truck till 3PM and then he came. I didn't ask what took him so long. Right way since he knew what needs to be done, he got to work and then he cut two 6" big holes in the kitchen ceiling and outside in exterior wall to install the duct. I didn't know what was the behind the wall and he didn't know, but then he pulled out all the insulation and then said Oh S***!!, we have a problem, we have pipes and we have to go lower and make another hole of same size, but by this time it was already 5PM and then he says I have to go back pick my daughter from school and I will be be back by 7PM. Being summer it was OK, but he came at 9.30PM. He hooked up the chimney and also the duct with more bad work inside and outside. The reason I say bad work is the he installed the chimney exhaust without caulking to exterior wall and just with some screws and a lot of gap for air to pass into the kitchen cabinet area.. Then finally we had the chimney up and running. However we had a a hole and no insulation in the duct area where the pipes were. He mentioned that he would come back and fix the hole and also install lights, when I called him, he bumped the price and then I disagreed and later he never came to fix the hole or lights or any unfinished work. He is a not a PROFESSIONAL and very NON-PUNCTUAL person. He brought his family and they were in the car while he was working inside the house at 9.30PM. I will never ever recommend this guy for any kind of work. We are very very frustrated with his work.
Description of Work: We asked Nick to install a kitchen chimney.

Response from NWT Services, LLC
First off, I am completely appalled by [member name]. I came and took measurements and looked over job and gave cost of job at that time I also stated that any damage to open ceiling or walls to get vent tube to exit home that was made by me is not covered in cost for repair. The cost is strictly to install vent tube with my price covering labor and parts. [member name] also wanted a quote for lighting in which I provided at an additional cost. The request and price for lighting had changed 3 times because he was trying to keep costs down on kitchen project. [member name] has a colonial type home and the bathroom is located above the kitchen, which is a typical set up. I stated to [member name] that the exhaust tube for vent which was to be 6-8" diameter may not be able to go the route we plan on going due to the fact there may be heating / cooling ducts or pipework in rafter channel above cabinets. And that the request to install recessed lighting may be of same issue in other parts of kitchen ceiling, the only way to find out, is to open ceiling for recessed can. [member name] never once said he didn't like my work, nor did he not like the exhaust vent part of job I completed for him. When he made hole on outside of home in wood fascia, that is where we found water pipe for upstairs bathroom as well as a header beam that you cannot drill horizontally thru as that would break building codes. So I made 2 suggestions, to not put that type of exhaust vent in, or to route thru cabinetry which I myself would never do in my own home, but have been requested by other to do in past. [member name] agreed to go thru cabinets as he said this exhaust must be vented to outside air. Upon agreeing to vent route installation, I had stated to Naveen we will put cut piece of wood and insulation back as found, with exception that about 18" of fascia (end of board) should be cut straight, replaced and painted to match rest of fascia. At that time he said what do you think about maybe replacing rotted out fascia on north side of home? I said I will get price on boarding material needed and will get back to you a price to replace those boards, and that possibly there will be enough there to fix where hole was made. The wall vent supplied comes with 4 screwed and does not require to be caulked once installed. When Naveen wanted me to come back to job I said I could stop by his house on my way out of town with my family. At which I did (my wife n daughter agreed), [member name] was told that when I come back to do lighting, (he had light fixture on order), that fascia board would be replaced. I also stated at that time the price for lighting also has board replacement labor ( he was to supply board) included which made the price different from originally said when there was only lighting. [member name] went from having island lights installed, recessed lighting installed and a dining room light moved, to replacing a kitchen light, moving a light and installing new light location over island. Then changed his mind again to install recessed lights but he will supply parts. The lighting request had kept changing so I do not know how he can even say the price was more or less, as the scenario changed often. I tried to give him days I could come back out to install lighting but they weren't available on his time schedule. The one day I did work on vent, I did have to break to pick up my daughter, but also stated to him if he wants me to return that same day that it would be after 7pm, as my daughter was an hour away. He agreed to me returning that night. Weeks had gone by, I never knew if lights ever came in or not 100%, all I know is [member name] was not happy when I stated last price that was slightly different and as stated before that was due to fascia board installation. So he decided at that time to hire a different contractor. When I found this out, I reminded him at that time to not forget about hole in board and that it needs attention before winter. As it appears, he didn't get that done and the cold hit his pipes. If he had followed thru to what he agreed upon when I first came out and from final estimate given to install lighting and fascia board replacement around home, [member name] home would have been done in a timely manner, and issues would never have been. One thing I suggest for future reference is that estimates are not exact costs, the final price may just come out lower, and sometimes slightly higher than estimate. I have in past given estimates and then actual cost be lower when project is done. I also give warranty on all parts supplied by me and stand behind my work 100%. When a contractor states a time they are intending to arrive, they stick to it, however, distances traveling to or from may shift that time slot, I do call if I may miss meet time. I believe the day I arrived later, I was traveling from over 1.5 hours away, coming from another job, once arrived I was on conference call in truck. Soon as I was done, I met with [member name]. If [member name] was not happy with my work from get go, then why would he want me to come back and install lighting for him? The only negative thing I have against [member name], if I stated a lower price for lighting, please read what it did or did not include, show it to me in writing. When a client calls and asks for price previously given, it is sometimes hard to remember when you are preoccupied in other stuff that you try to remember but sometimes state something different. It must be understood that I along with other contractors do not only have one job going at any given time but numerous jobs along with estimates given on almost a daily basis. So to remember something is not always possible as you are not the only customer we have at any given time. I have hundreds of repeat clients, and service the entire state of MI as well as some outlying areas. I have many happy clients that constantly refer me out based on my hard work, preciseness, quality, and professionalism.
