The rest of the move went smoothly and efficiently. The men were kind and helpful and I didn't even think twice when they requested that I pay them in cash (even though I had been told when I called to confirm the appointment that a check would be acceptable). I ran to the bank & even tipped them 20%. I regret that terribly now.
About an hour after the movers left, my roommate realized that she was missing two glass tops to two different tables. I also noted that a decorative molding to a desk had been damaged and a full length mirror was found shattered in the dumpster. The mirror was inexpensive & no great casualty, but it seemed very unprofessional to just throw it away without mentioning that it had been broken in the move. We called the company to ask about the missing glass and broken desk & they said it had accidentally been left on the truck and they would bring it to us the next day. They also asked us to take pictures of the desk so they could look into fixing it.
That was three months ago. Although we have contacted them countless times by phone, and even sent a letter from my attorney (which was mailed back, claiming the business is no longer at their address on Schoolcraft) nothing has been done to return, replace or repair our damaged goods. Each time we speak with someone at Superfly they make empty promises to return the glass tops or we are given the runaround (often we are given different names or phone numbers to call).
In sum, I would not recommend Superfly Movers to anyone. The men who helped us the day of our move seemed fine, but the complete inability to solve such a simple mistake is unacceptable and unprofessional.
The company: I called the day before my scheduled moving date just to confirm, and everything was still all set, or so I was told. On the moving day after the end of the 4 hour window of arrival I gave them a call and was told they were running late from a previous job. It really sounded like the guy who answered didn't see my move scheduled, since he had to take down all of my information again. Maybe I fell through the cracks somehow, I really don't know. I understand delays like this can happen, so I waited. I got a call from the movers saying they could arrive later, and by the time they arrived it was 4.5 hours after the end of the scheduled arrival window. They arrived with a truck that was smaller than I was told we would get. I was given the same "the big truck is in the shop" line that another reviewer mentioned. The smaller truck meant I had to finish the move the next day using my car because there was a bunch of stuff that just wouldn't fit in the truck.
The movers: The guys who came to do the actual work were very nice and did their absolute best to fit as much as they could into the truck. They were professional and worked hard the entire time, they didn't slack off or waste any time at all. They handled everything with care and did a good job loading and unloading. I have no doubt that if they had brought the right size truck then everything would have fit with room to spare. It's too bad that good workers like this have to be associated with the terrible parent company.
Overall: Decent price, but at the cost of a significant hassle. I cannot recommend the company at all, but the workers were good. I was told on the phone that they recently got bought out or changed owners, so it may or may not be Beast Moving or Superfly Movers, who knows, but I wouldn't bother with either. I do not recommend using this company.
The crew showed up on time, which was great. They loaded the truck and then met us at our new house to unload. So far so good. That's when the trouble began.
They tried getting our couch in through the front door, but were having some trouble. So they decided to stand it upright and simply slide it across our wood floors. Not a problem, except they didn't put down any sort of sheet or protection. So it seriously scratched the wood on our couch and put a rip in the fabric.
Once they finished, I showed them the damage. He told me there was nothing they could have done to avoid this; I pointed out that they could have put something on the ground to slide it on, and he just shrugged.
They asked me to sign a waiver saying everything was ok, but I refused. The guy called his supervisor, but s/he didn't answer, so he said he would sent me a check to compensate me for the damage. I told him I still wouldn't sign the waiver, but I paid him.
Flash forward: After almost 3 months, numerous e-mails, phone calls, and text messages, we still are without the promised compensation. I called the company again 3 weeks ago to see where the money was (my 3rd such call), and the guy told me that they had just purchased the company and it was under new management. He said he hadn't heard of the issue (apparently the old company never mentioned it to him), but he said it wouldn't be a problem to send us the compensation. He asked me to send him my contact information, which I did. Still no response.
I called back a week later and got a different individual (from the new company). When I told him the problem, he said he hadn't heard anything about it and there was not much they could do because they were the new company and had not assumed the old company's liabilities. When I pointed out that the new company promised me the compensation a week earlier, he said he would have to talk to someone and call me back. I told him that it had been 2 months and I hadn't heard anything; I was on the verge of writing a very negative review on Angie's List. He responded, "we have lots of negative reviews."
By the way, I still haven't received a call, and, after numerous promises, it has been 3 months and I am still here with a damaged couch and no compensation. Do not use.
Scheduling went smooth and they said that they would be able to accommodate my preferred time. Not so fast...they weren't at my home when the appointment was to begin. I called them and was lied to continuously about why the movers were late and when they would arrive. Ultimately, they came 3 hours after the scheduled time which caused me to delay the cleaning of my house and of course delayed my own ability to leave the city when I planned to do so. Fortunately for the company, their movers are great (John and Scott). If they could just have people in the headquarters with the same professionalism as their movers then this place would be great. Since they don't....schedule this place at your own risk. I won't make the same mistake in the future.
UPDATE: I just wanted to respond to the vendor's rebuttal here. The vendor claims that I had unreasonable expectations for the move and that they were late because the first job of the day ran long. Nice story but not true. My appointment was for 9:00 AM. If I was not the first job then what time did that job begin at exactly? Also, the mover confirmed that I was the first job and the reason that he was late was because headquarters did not inform him that the job was in Ann Arbor which was more than an hour from where he lived. Finally, there was no verbal abuse. We worked together with the movers and often sat down together to take water breaks. Further, we tipped them additional money because they did such a great job. Again, the company's rebuttal confirms everything I stated above that the people at headquarters could be improved and the movers were excellent.
"This guy had unreasonable expectations our first move was longer then expected personally if I would have know the verbal abuse my guys where going to take from this guy we would have never showed up to begin with this man is just a bad customer probably the same type of person who complains about his coffee being too hot."
On move day the start time did get pushed until about 2:20, when Mike and Chris met my husband at our storage unit to begin loading the 26 ft. truck. They packed the truck very efficiently and were able to fit almost all of the storage items, then loaded everything from the apartment that we needed them to get in the truck, and drove everything to our new house about 15 miles away. At the house they unloaded everything to each location we specified (3 level house, so lots of stairs). The movers were very careful with all of our items and extremely friendly and pleasant to work with. We made arrangements to move the last items out of storage later in the week, which was more efficient than having them drive there and back that night. For all the work they did the price felt like a great value. We would definitely recommend this company.
