Warning: This company did not stand behind its products or service. Last December we returned from vacation to find our basement covered with an inch or so of water due to a sump pump failure. At the time, it became clear that the malfunction was not constant, and the unit would work most of the time. The company would not replace it, but told us that they would if it failed again. After the basement was repaired (at the cost of around $12,000) and a backup installed, the original pump, which was only a year old, began to stick, and the pit would begin to fill with water. I was able to force the pump to work, but it was clear that the unit was defective. I called the company, and they sent out a technician. However, because I had forced the unit to work (I didn't want an overflow, after all), the service person refused to replace it. He even called the office, which supported his refusal. I later called the same person, who confirmed that they would not come to replace the pump unless they could see that it was not working. In a couple of days, the unit failed. I asked if a video would be acceptable, and was told to send one to the office; however, they never confirmed that they had received it, or that they would send someone to replace the failed unit. The next day, it malfunctioned again, at which time I called and, lo and behold! they actually sent someone to handle the job. My questions of them, which they never answered, were: a.) Why would I ask them to come and replace a properly working sump pump? b.) What would have occurred if we were out of town and could not alert them to the fact that the pump had failed? c.) Were they willing to pay for another clean up of our basement if there was no way to have them replace the unit? The only redeeming feature of our experience was that the man who eventually came to replace the unit was courteous and apologetic. The person in the office had never apologized and, instead, took a very matter-of-fact, "this is the way it goes" attitude. Avoid Rooter MD at all costs, or you could find costs beyond what you ever wanted to pay.

Rooter MD sent over Brian who was very knowledgeable & courteous. Brian installed a flange for our new toilet. After accessing the area however, they recommended that we replace our floor tile because the structural integrity was damaged. The floor was in desperate need of a overhaul. They sent one of their tile installers to come to our house. Nova inspected the area and went right to work. Nova explained step by step the process to us so we were well informed of the procedures involved. His team took out the old tile and even hauled away the old vanity. After selecting a tile pattern Nova and his team were done in a timely fashion and instructed us on the maintenance of our new tile. They also installed a new vanity and new toilet. The overall experience was extreamly pleasant and professional. They are very knowledgeable and courteous. I highly recommend this company and I'm very happy with the results. Thank you~

Shane, the technician, showed up very promptly and took a look at my current furnace. It turned out that I didn't have the necessary electrical and water supply lines for the humidifier, which would have been extra, and he was very straightforward in explaining that. He also pointed out that my furnace is very near the end of its life and will likely need replacing in the next year or so. He wasn't pushing anything or trying to upsell me; he just pointed out that I would be adding a humidifier to a furnace that won't be around much longer. He could have just installed the humidifier and said nothing; I wouldn't have known the difference. So instead I asked him to write me a proposal for a new furnace. (I asked him; again, no pushing!) He expalined the options carefully and completely, and didn't try and sell me the top of the line since I clearly don't need it. I now have a detailed, line item quote for an appropriate type of furnace I can work with and plan for in the next year or so. What a great, honest company. I was so impressed with the complete lack of pushiness or high pressure, and Shane's obvious thorough knowledge of his business. I have every intention of buying my new furnace from Rooter MD when the time comes.

Service was excellent! I called in the morning, and got same day service for the standard rate. He arrived on time, and the company also called 15 minutes before he got there to let me know he was on the way. Excellent work, excellent manners, excellent cleanup. I had a problem with another sink in a bathroom which we are going to remodel, and he was completely candid and told me that it probably wasn't worth the cost of fixing it since we are remodeling it soon. I am so happy with the service that I am having them come out to look at our "fixer upper" house (long story as to how we ended up with it) to have them do the furnace, burst pipes, sewer drain, and toilet fix.

I spoke with some one at the main office to schedule my service. They asked me all sorts of questions about the size and age of my house to make sure the service I purchased would work with my home. There was no mention about any extra cost during these conversations. When the service provider arrived for installation the first question he asked was "did you read the fine print.". He told me that my purchase would only install the humidifier to my furnace but that it wouldn't work unless I paid an additional $180 to connect the device to an electrical source and water line. At this point, I had already shelled out $299 and wasn't sure if I could get a refund. We really needed a humidifier so I wrote the check for the extra money. I feel tricked by the company and will never use them again. I'm especially insulted by the question. "Have you read the fine print.". It implies they meant to trick their customers and only tell them about the extra charge at the time of installation.
Description of Work: In February of 2014, I purchased a $299 Big Deal for a whole-house humidifier installed. I wouldn’t recommend them. There was a hidden cost that wasn't clear when I purchased.

The installation was fine. the humidifier is able to maintain a much higher humidity than I previously had with no humidifier, but I am surprised how much water this humidifier uses. I didn't realize there would be that much of an increase in my daily usage, but the humidity level in the house is fine.

I contacted RotterMD when the Bid Deal was published to research the product and installation process. I was informed that there could be additional charges if the furnace was an older model and a water line wasn't close to the furnace. My home is a complete remodel and has a new furnace. The hot water heater is extremely close to the furnace, they are so close together in my basement it is difficult to stand between them. With the information that my new furnace would not like need to updated wiring due to it being new and the water line being very close my additional costs would be minimal. So, I purchased the "Big Deal" for $299. An apt was set up for the installation. An hour into that appointment window I receive a call and was told they were unable to make it that day. I set up another appointment, and the installer showed up and examined my furnace and the water line location. When he came out of the basement I was informed that it would cost $269 to for the water line ( less that 2 feet ) and $262.50 for an upgrade of my furnace. That is a total of $531.50 additional cost on top of the $299.00 already paid through Angie's List. I did not allow the installation because it seemed both too expensive and deceitful. The installer said that he would have someone call me and discuss with me a possible price reduction. I waited about a week, no one ever called. Then, I called and complained ( Feb 2, 2014 ) that no one had ever called me back. A "complaint form" was filled out and I was told someone would call me withing 48 hours. Well that was over a week ago and no one has ever called. In the mean time, I have had a whole home humidifier installed by another individual and the total cost was about $300 and it is working great. RooterMD is provider I would never trust and it is bewildering to me that they are rated as an "A" provider. I have seen NO evidence that would justify that.

I tried to clear the drain myself and had no success. I checked Angie's list and liked the ratings for this company and we knew someone that had work done by this company and they were happy with the results. They sent someone out soon after I called. Brian snaked out the kitchen sink with a motorized unit and seemed very knowledgeable about the job. He took his time and seemed to do a through job. He was very personable and answered any questions I asked. He was very careful not to make a mess and cleaned up very well after he was done. The drain has been working like new thanks to Brian's work. I am very happy with the job and would use this company again the next time I need plumbing services.

I understood the $299 price was installed complete. We have a water line & electrical at the furnace, but serviceman told us it would be added cost$$$$ to tap into the lines. Told us that newer furnaces have an easy plug outlet for a humidifier. Suggested we replace the furnace since it is beyond it's average useful life & not spend money on old furnace. He gave us a quote to replace unit for $4800.+ We will think about it.

Had Rooter MD come to fix burst pipes. The call center was very responsive, they called me each morning (repairs took 2 days) to let me know which technicians were coming out & arrival time. They were thorough, explained what they were doing & didn't pressure me to make decisions, gave good direction without being pushy. I would highly recommend them for future work.

I have an older house with a one "combined" sewer pipe that connects my house to the city's sewer system, and the big trees in the yard had caused a severe buildup of roots in it, causing flooding. Usually can be cleared enough by "snaking" to prevent flooding. But last plumbing company to visit was unable to "snake" it because the roots had just gotten too thick. Scheduled a visit from RooterMD to discuss options. From my description, he recommended the water jet treatment rather than spending money on having them try to "snake" it again, which would never be able to thoroughly remove the roots anyway, just punches a whole. So I took a leap of faith and paid for the jetting treatment. They used a camera to show me what it looked like before and after. After the jetting, the roots were completely gone. They did a great job.
Description of Work: Used high-pressure water jet to clear roots that were clogging my sewer pipe.

John the plumber was nice, cant say that about the rest of the company. Their website offered me the drain cleaning for 149.99, when they got here, my service charge was 250.00 their website also promised running a camera through the drain before any service was attempted, and this was not done either. they wanted to charge me 200 dollars to remove the toilet (I was able to do this while the plumber stood by, as an amateur I did this in 10 minutes, 200 dollars, really? for what?) the auger that John used was apparently too large to make it through the drain, so he recommended trying another method. John's binder offered a satisfaction guarantee, which they did not fulfill, as the service was not complete. I felt like they tried to upsell me on their 'hydro-jetting service' more so than anything. after calling and speaking with multiple supervisors, I asked to have my payment applied towards the hydro-jetting, since I had already spent more then half the cost on it, and was still without a working bathroom. Pete Wood, supervisor, agreed to 100 dollar credit and sending another tech out to re-do the job. on 1/29/14 he called me back, angry, screaming, saying that I was attempting to bully him into working for free (even though their service guarantee said that the job would be corrected for free, if it wasnt done satisfactory.) told me to take him to court if I want to see anything done again and hung up the phone on me.

Response from Rooter MD Plumbing and Heating
John went above the call of duty in order to try and solve the homeowner's problem. A website coupon is always accepted if it is presented at any time during the call. Multiple coupons cannot be used at the same time. John politely waited for the homeowner to perform plumbing task that he was avoiding having to pay our company for performing. Not having properly installed plumbing can make the service work difficult and extensive. We attempted to resolve this issue with the customer through partial refund and return for service. This attempt was unsuccessful and we cannot afford to work for free. The member wanted more than we believed reasonable and we were unable to agree on a resolution.
