Independent Lawn Service

The service was not very well communicated upfront so I had to call to verify what was performed on the first visit then when they will be back next to do what next. It was kind of confusing and inconvenient comparing to other service we used in the past. They also kept sending me invoiced for services that I haven't received so I didn't like that. After their second visit, my lawn still are getting quite a bit of weeds so i have to go buy weed control and do it on my own. I don't think I will use them again.

We hired Independent Lawn Service for the whole year, which includes multiple (6) treatments from Spring to Fall. The total cost for all of the treatments was approximately $240 if paid up front. I communicated with Patrick, who has been very helpful and easy to contact. He answered all of my questions and responds to emails very quickly. We had our first fertilizer/pre-emergent weed control treatment applied last week. The technician left a note indicating what time he had been to our home, and exactly what service was done. The note stated to wait 14-21 days for results on the weeds. Within 2 days, the dandelions had already started to whither, which was very impressing! I am excited to see how our lawn looks after a full year with Independent Lawn Service!

It was great and they were very nice to work with. My lawn looks much better. They came out on a timely basis.

When they did the fertilization, they left a little flag at the lawn after they've done it but I didn't get a chance to meet the guy who actually did the fertilization. They were pretty quick. I think they came two days after I bought it. I talked to the owner on the phone and he was a very nice guy.

Asked them to come out and evaluate lawn because I thought I had grubs. They said they didn't think I did. They fertilized my lawn and applied weed killer over the summer and into the fall. Lawn still looked kind of bad but they said it was due to heat stress so I tried to water more. They told me I had Billbugs and treated the lawn for that. They told me I should aerate the lawn as well so I did that. Then they overseeded the lawn in the fall to try to fill in some of the bare spots. This year my lawn has deteriorated further and still they want to keep fertilizing. I have contracted with another company to come and get RID OF THE GRUBS!!! I have major damage to my lawn due to grubs( and animals digging for grubs) and this company was never able to identify it and never suggested that I treat for them. UPDATE 05/31/2013: Will from Independent came out to my house to discuss the problems that I was having. After our discussion, we agreed that there had been a communication problem that occurred between myself and his company. Will suggested that his company come out and perform some services at no cost to me in order to address the problems with my lawn. I was impressed by his handling of the situation and I am now once again a client of Independent Lawn Service.

Received a phone call within 48 hours of my initial Angie's List "Great Deal" purchase and felt very good about the conversation. Began to worry 6 weeks later when I hadn't heard from the company. When I called, they explained that they were watching the weather and that they would call before the aeration to give me a "heads up" and they did. Aeration happened on April 11 following a phone call letting me know that it was scheduled. Received a phone call on April 22 stating that the first application of fertilizer et al would be applied the following day. Gentleman arrived about 4:30 on April 23 to complete the work. It was raining and he noted that the weed killer may not take due to rain. Hmm. He was pleasant and patient with my questions.

Talking with the representative from ILS left me with a very positive impression of the company. Again, I was not able to take advantage of their Big Deal offer as they do not service my area.

They were great. They did a good job and were even lower priced than my other tree guy by almost $400.

Came out in late spring, did a diagnosis on our sad-looking lawn. By mid-summer it was beautiful and we were proud of our yard for the first time in years. They were kind, courteous and efficient. They even called ahead of time to let us know they were coming. Would definitely recommend!

The website says that Independent Lawn Services service the Brighton and South Lyon areas. I live in New Hudson, which is right between Brighton and South Lyon (and no one actually lists New hudson as a service area!). I was informed that they only actually service a small area in South Lyon and an even smaller area in Brighton and 5 miles away was too far to work us into their schedule. As far as the actual services they provide I cannot speak to those because they couldn't be bothered to help us. Overall I was very frustrated speaking to this company. I felt they were the opposite of helpful and not at all interested in new customers.

This review is based on the 2012 season. The lawn seemed to really come along great as the summer progressed. I thought it looked very good with the prior company that did it for us, but it seemed even a little nicer looking with Indepenent. Waiting to see this upcoming season (2013) if the tree/shrub program shows noticeable benefit. I did go ahead with it again for this year, but will decide if I want to continue paying for that or not for 2014 depending on what we see. Only one minor problem with aeration in fall. I know it is to be expected, and will look fine come this spring, but the lawn seemed a bit more torn up in a few areas than with prior aeration services I had previously. Much of this is due to a somewhat shallow root system in the lawn due to age and shade, and some had to do with their equipment tires spinning and tearing up lawn on a fairly steep section of the lawn when they went up it, instead of down it, while it was damp. I will just make sure to clarify with them this year to note when they do the aeration in the fall to make sure they go over that section in a down hill direction. The other thing was, even though I indicated and staked out a 3-4 foot border along the street and our neighbor's driveway for them to avoid due to electric dog fence underground, they still managed to clip that wire....$150 to Invisible Fence to fine the break and fix that. Oh well....I will mark out a wider zone next season. Overall very happy with their service and results.

They are an outstanding company. I keep renewing my contract with them. I bought my house 2010, tried to redo the lawn myself did not work I hired them in 2011 or 2012. They are an excellent company. My advice to all is don’t take long and waste your time if you are watching your grass. They are a really good company. Since they really care they kept following it up with me, and kept in touch with me. If they have any kind of discount they don’t cheat me or anything, they would let me know what is going on and adjust it off. I really like how their customer service is. If you have just one problem they are out to correct it. I never had a problem. The only time they actually had to do something, about fertilizer once and it was taken care of. It is not like of one those karts where they just come out with a kid who is going to college and mow the lawn. They actually know their stuff.

They did a great job. I will be using them again in the Spring.

We purchased a lawn evaluation and aeration with Independent Lawn Service. We were impressed with their service as well as pricing. As a result we cancelled our existing lawn service and switched to Independent Lawn Service.

They were very friendly and did very good followup. I feel like weed killing they did help us because lawn was in pretty bad shape and lawn had improved quite a bit. I would use them again.

I think it went well. I am going to use them again this year. I would recommend them.

They did a good job. They were not exactly clear as to when they were going to be there.

Overall Independent Lawn Service did a great job. They provided great customer service and were very knowledge. Giving advice for things that I could do on my own to help improve the appearance of my lawn

If you exceed the amount of work included in the Big Deal, the price can get high for additional work, so you want to keep an eye on the fine details. If your yard size exceeds what they include, you will pay over and above. Though the price was high, they did do a great job.

The lawn went from brown/orange to mostly green in a few months worth of care despite having such a hot summer. We watered the heck out of it as directed and Independent came regularly to weed and feed and my grass looks close to as good as my best neighbor now. I may have them do more work for me (beyond just lawn weed/feed) next year too.

what I thought I was buying was what was advertised: "Full Lawn Analysis, Fertilization and Weed Control Plus Perimeter Pest Control" but after they came out and put fertilizer down I never heard or saw anything regarding the "full lawn analysis." Sometime after the service someone called and asked if I wanted to sign a contract for fertilization for the rest of the year and I explained that I was disappointed about, in effect, being charged $80 for what amounted to a one-time fertilization. He offered to come out and take a look but by that time I had already talked to someone else about the issues in my lawn. I would have much preferred to write a positive review but the company shouldn't advertize something if they have no intention of doing it in the first place. Update 1/27/13: As Will mentioned in his response he did come out to meet me and I'm satisfied with how things are being handled - I updated my initial ratings to reflect the attention given to my concerns.

Excellent company. I had a very good experience with them and will use them again not only for my shrubs but for my lawn care fertilizating starting next year.

In retrospect I probably would have dethatched the lawn prior to overseeding as parts of the lawn are slow to fill in where excessive thatch is present. Three weeks after aeration and overseed (plus daily watering) lawn has had a remarkable recovery. I liked the areation where actual cores were removed from soil as compared to prior service which just poked holes in the ground. Based on what I have seen at local golf courses where the core holes are every few inches apart, I guess I was expecting to see more cores removed. However the technician made multiple passes over the area most in need of aeration and as noted above, I am satisfied with the progress being made. Everyone I delt with was very professional and easy to work with and I have no problem recommending them and if fact have recommeded them to serveral neighbors.

After one season using Independent Lawn Service, now I'm the house where the grass is always greener!! They are true grass doctors!

The annual program plus core areation and insect crontol resulted in the healiest lawn I have ever had.
