This place was much more overpriced than anywhere else we looked, but the sales person was very helpful, and I thought buying smaller and more local would be a good thing; until I needed to return one of the lights we purchased. First, let me explain that their return policy is 10 days. No returns and no exchanges after that. Seems a bit extreme, or like something you would make a point to let your customers aware of, but clearly customer service is not something they pride themselves in at this store. The same employee that had been more than helpful, was instantly defensive when asked a simple question. Then the manager told me I was speaking rudely to the employee which was not true whatsoever. Based on the amount of reviews I have read about this same problem, I cannot understand how this business has stayed lucrative for so many years. Clearly, the previous management knew how to treat their customers, but the current management needs to have some training in customer service skills and actually listening to their customers prior to casting judgement. There's a reason for all of the negative reviews on customer service and it's not the customers causing it. But, it's nice to know, that they don't need the business. Because I will turn away anyone I ever hear inquiring about this business. I will never return to this store and hopefully all of the negative reviews along with the ridiculous policies will discourage anyone else from shopping there too.

During both my 2012 and 2014 visits I encountered the same thing, rude sales staff. Every time I walk into the shop, it's the same experience -- 3 to 4 sales people standing around talking...they glance at the door and then continue with their conversation. Then in order to receive help you have to approach them and they appear to be totally put out...as if I'm bothering them, you know from actually doing their job!! While the selection at the store is great and they are reasonably priced, their attitudes/poor sales staff makes me dread going to the store in the future.
Description of Work: I originally utilized Brose back in 2012 and purchased a chandelier and a foyer light from them, which took about 8 weeks to receive from the order date. I spent just under $1000 on the two fixtures and was pleased with how the fixtures came out (we had them installed by our own electrician). Recently I visited the shop to inquire on one of the fixtures to determine if I could remove/cut a pole in order to shorten the height of the fixture.

glass globe on fixture shattered for no apparent reason a week after installation. spoke with staff at Brose; extremely rude and disinterested. Said it could only have been the result of 'shoddy' installation. Refused to consider defective part. Do not answer emails and don't give a d*** about customer once they walk out the door. Avoid this retailer at all costs. Simply not worth the potential hassle.

Description of Work: this company accepted my money but they will not return it if its beyond 10 days. I purchased some lights to use in a remodel project. My contractor discovered they could not be used 2 months after I purchased them. Had I noticed the 10 day policy they would have had to be returned about 4 times. I am a senior citizen with health issues. the store is a 50 mile round trip, too far to go to redeem the store credit for light bulbs. My money could better be used for my meds since I am on a limited income. I explained it to the store clerk and owner but I found out they were not interested in having happy customers. When the lights were returned the package was never opened. I know of no other electrical stores with Brose's policy. I returned some lights to Lowes over 2 months from the purchase date and they happily returned my money. The 10 policy was not expressed verbally. Had it been, it might have helped. Now I have a store credit that when used , I'll have to spend over or under. I do not want to give them more money on stuff I cannot use, nor do I want them to keep my money. This store does not pay interest on money but they will not return it. I find this to be legal theft! Whoever purchases from this store better beware.
