Scheduled exactly as promised. Moved the furniture out of the room, installed the carpet and then made sure all furniture was placed exactly where we wanted.

They were nice. They were professional. They sub contracted it out to another company, they got in in decent time and left about 7:00 in the evening. They finished it all in one day. They are reasonable they knew everything they were doing, they helped me take out the refrigerator and the kitchen table.
Description of Work: They put in new floor in the kitchen, on the landing and down the stairs into the basement.

Thank you for the review. Our crews, while they are independent businesses themselves, are screened extensively and have a great track record in taking care of our customers. We are very glad that you were pleased with their performance. Too often, we only hear of the problems, not what went right. We will be sure to pass your comments along to our crew. We very much appreciate your confidence in Abbey Flooring!

Our entire experience with Abbey Flooring was a disappointing disaster. Our sales rep, Steve, was great to deal with when making a sale--then when things went south with the install he was impossible to deal with. We had purchased vinyl flooring to be installed in our kitchen prior to listing our home for sale. It was installed noticeable unevenly with numerous soft spots and pockets throughout the floor. People visiting our home would even comment on the unevenness of the flooring. We had Steve come out and take a look and he assured us it would be corrected. Well, he sent back out the same crew--to and quot;fixand quot; it they needed to inject filler into the soft spots. They CUT holes in the floor to insert their filler needles and then smeared glue/caulk over the holes to keep them shut. The new floor look like it had been slashed in numerous spots with a knife. VERY noticeable and looked anything but new. We were horrified they would leave a new floor in such a condition. We called Steve to express our concern and he could've cared less. I asked to speak with a manager and he had the nerve to tell me NO. I told him how disappointed we were in the entire experience and his response was a smug and quot;I'm sorry to hear that.and quot; That's it. We will NEVER do business with Abbey flooring again and tell everyone to avoid hiring them. Their workmanship, customer service and ability to back up their work was absolutely appalling. Save yourself the money and headache and find a more professional group. (I should note, this work was done in 2013--Angie's List made me select a specific date of service and I estimated the best I could. I only recently acquired an account or this review would've been composed earlier.)

We ordered bamboo flooring from this company, and after looking at the samples the store provided decided we wanted Teragren sculpted java. We placed the order, and the flooring came in around July 1. I picked it up on July 3. As our contractor was due to start work on July 7, we figured the timing would all work out. When I got it home, however, I opened one of the boxes to confirm that it was correct, and was surprised that we received plain java (not sculpted as we had ordered). We were clearly given the wrong flooring, which is where this starts to go downhill. We called the store right away and reported that we received the wrong flooring, and Debbie (one of their salespeople) first responded with and quot;what do you expect me to do about it?and quot; When that response wasn't enough for us, as it wouldn't be for pretty much anyone, we were told that it was a holiday weekend and therefore Steve, the salesman who placed our order, wouldn't be able to call us until Monday . At this time it was Thursday, July 3, at around 7:30 p.m., which was within the operating hours of the store. But apparently despite the store being open for business, Steve couldn't be bothered to call us until Monday. Monday, is the day our contractor was showing up to start the job, so the delay of a few days for a call back really was a problem. Debbie did tell us that, from what she could tell, Steve had input the wrong number on the order with the distributor, and that's why the wrong flooring was delivered. We were then told she had spoken to Steve, and he said the sculpted java floor would take 6 weeks to arrive from the manufacturer. After the three-day weekend, Steve did finally call us on Monday. His story was that he placed the order correctly, but the distributor screwed it up. Then he said that it was partially our fault for not checking before I lugged the 24 (very heavy) boxes to my home. It couldn't possibly be that he messed it up, and it would be too much to expect that the store would check what they received from the distributor against what we ordered to make sure it matched. He also said the sculpted java would take maybe two weeks to arrive. Also, according to him, his earlier statement was that it and quot;may take up to six weeks, and quot; although that's not what we were told and apparently was not based on any actual research by him. He did offer us a partial $250 refund toward our nearly $4,000 purchase, but that included the $150 that they overcharged us, as the flooring we received cost less than the flooring we ordered. This amounts to basically $100 off for having to live with the wrong floor for the next decade. We would have been willing to live with this floor for some sort of discount greater than 2.7%, which we told them, but that was definitely a compromise offer as all we really wanted was the floor we ordered. When we wouldn’t take the $100 discount for living with the wrong floor, we got our first real apology. That was when Steve told my wife he was sorry she was being unreasonable. After hearing conflicting stories from the salespeople, not to mention the rudeness, we asked to talk to one of the owners. Steve said that he had spoken with them, and they were fully aware of this issue and wouldn't talk with us. We did end up returning the flooring to the store and buying elsewhere. Of course that meant I had to load over 1,500 lbs. of flooring back into my truck and drive it back to the store (we asked that they pick it up, as we live about 3 miles from the store and this is all the result of their screw-up, but they refused). We also had to reschedule our contractor to a later date, so we get to live two extra weeks with bare concrete floor, and no furniture, in our family room. I have seen their responses to other negative reviews, and I'm sure they'll come up with some excuse as to how we were unreasonable in thinking that getting a different floor from what we ordered was a problem, or how it was everyone's fault but theirs, or how they were willing to work with us by offering $100 off a $4,000 order for getting the wrong product. The theme of their responses to complaints seems to be to either blame the customer, or come up with some kind of excuse as to why the customer is being unreasonable. As a customer, I really don't care whose fault it is that we received the wrong flooring. Even if the distributor is to blame, which I doubt, I expect the store from which we made the purchase to be responsive to our issue (like maybe calling back when we first report the problem, or even saying they are sorry this happened given the huge inconvenience this has caused). If those are your expectations as well, you may want to buy somewhere else.

We are so sorry that the wrong floor was delivered to our store and that we loaded it in the customer's truck with none of us noticing that it was the wrong flooring. All of the descriptions and information on the shipping documents matched and we do not open boxed material without the customer's consent. (Member name removed) noticed it was the wrong product after her husband had brought it home and they unloaded it. When she called the store and spoke with our representative, we explained there was nothing that could be done about exchanging the flooring on Thursday night of a holiday weekend but we would be glad to call the distributor on Monday. It was the evening before the Fourth of July holiday and we were closed for the weekend and our distributor was also closed until Monday. Her salesman had already gone away for the holiday and was unreachable by phone. We were able to contact our distributor sales rep at his home and he checked to see if there was any of the correct product in stock. He indicated that the product was a non-stock item and could take up to 6 weeks to arrive. Mrs. Nickel was the one who suggested she might be willing to keep the floor if we gave her money off. We told her that we could give her the difference between the price of the correct flooring and the one she actually recieved. She was unhappy with the discount we offered her. Upon investigation on Monday 7/7/14 our Distributor realized that their staff made the mistake. We discovered that they had sent the wrong flooring because no one had put the "s" on the end of the # because that flooring was a special order. It was an unfortunate, unintentional clerical error. We tried to expedite shipment of the correct flooring but the decrease to 10 days was not acceptable for (Member name removed). Unfortunately the holiday weekend prevented any further attempts to solve the problem. (Member name removed)continued to get even more upset with the inaction. We have apoligized for all the inconvience and have refunded her money however it never seemed to be enough fom the minute she called on that Thursday evening. It is difficult to speak with a customer who insists on loudly voicing her displeasure. There was nothing we could have done to solve the problem in the immediate fashion that she demanded. No one wanted to make the Nickel's happier with their flooring purchase than we did. We rely on satisfied customers to build our business and we take it personnaly when things don't go as planned. Again, we apologize that the timing of the error escalated the problem. We truly tried our best to correct the situation.

It's unfortunate that Ms. [removed member name]chose to publish her comments before we had the opportunity to correct her installation. When our installers arrived at the job and removed existing flooring, we discovered a height difference in the adjacent flooring that was not evident when we originally inspected the job. We had to procure additional materials to complete the job. Ms. [removed member name]husband instructed us to continue the job but she did not like the result. Frankly, neither did we. We have subsequently reworked the floor to eliminate the height difference at no additional cost to the customer. It's unfortunate that Ms. [removed member name]did not bother to update her response to reflect the fact that the job now looks very good. We do our best to make our installations fit the image that the customer has in mind. Sometimes we encounter issues that are beyond what we expected and have to make changes to our approach. Invariably, this causes additional time to complete. We are glad that the job ultimately came out looking good and hope the [removed member name]enjoy it for years to come.

I called to ask if they would provide a quote to install tile that I purchased elsewhere. They asked me where I purchased it. When I told them the location, they said that's not someone they deal with and wouldn't be interested and promptly hung up, leaving me saying and quot;hello?and quot;. No other options or explanations. If this is the way they would treat a prospective customer, what about someone who has actually given them money already? Quite rude.

It's amazing, sometimes, when a simple situation can spiral into unintended disaster. We specifically recall this incident and are sorry the efforts of our sales staff resulted in a misunderstanding. First of all, we had no way of contacting Mr. [member name removed] after he hung up his call. Our sales associate placed the call on hold to check if one of our tile contractors would be interested in working directly with him. When she returned to the call, Mr. [member name removed] had terminated the call (not realizing that he was on hold). We actually did have a referral for him and it is unfortunate that he hung up because we pride ourselves on only working with talented installers. We are in the process of adding music on hold to our telephone system to avoid any future mishaps like Mr. [member name removed]'s. We're sorry he feels we let him down but it appears to be an isolated situation. Just for the record, we do not install material purchased from other retailers due to the fact that we cannot provide warranty support for that material. Once we cut it or otherwise install any material, our company accepts responsibility for that material. We only deal with suppliers who stand behind their products and with whom we have long-standing supply relationships. In that way we can insure that our customers always receive the best value. Again, we're sorry that Mr. [member name removed] felt slighted and I don't blame him for being upset. We only wish he would have called back to complain to us rather than vent in this forum - in that way, we might have been able to clear up the misunderstanding and provide him with a quality referral. I invite him to call me anytime if he has any further input into this unfortunate situation. I do hope he was able to find a reputable installer - if not, we can provide the referral we intended all along. Thank you for pointing out the major flaw in our on-hold system - Ed Barann, Co-Owner, Abbey Flooring & Design

--carpet and ceramic tile were installed to my satisfaction, the installers were professional Laminate flooring Laminate flooring was laid over a cement floor. I had removed all carpeting where laminate was to be laid, so that the sales person could see that it needed leveling. She said it was not a problem and wrote it up on the Job Invoice----(Prep floors as needed). When the installer came I pointed out the same problem to him, and he seemed confident that he could correct the problem using play sand. He did not do what he said, so the finished laminate floor had uneven boards. I complained to my sales person about the install. She came out and seemed to agree that the install was not done right. Abbey's response was to send the same installers back, who did nothing but complain that they were not getting paid to redo the floor. They blamed it on the materials. Out comes the factory rep next, who blames it on the install. So Abbey sends the same installers back to try and fix it again. Each time they took it apart the problems were getting worse instead of better. I will live with it the way it is. After I paid the final bill I received in the mail a printout of the job proposal. The carbon of the hand written job invoice that I have which reads (prep floors as needed) had been changed on the job proposal to (prep floor in kitchen area. if needed).

We are sorry that Member does not like the laminate flooring he chose for his residence. We installed 2 different grades of laminate flooring in his residence. The material chosen for the kitchen area was a premium grade and a value grade of laminate was chosen for the rest of the job in an effort to keep Member's job within his desired budget. Most manufacturers offer multiple grades of their end product - General Motors offers Cadillac as their premium brand and Chevrolet as their value brand. Member indicated to our sales representative that he was very pleased with the look of the kitchen but had problems with the look of the other material. On first examination, we all assumed that more work needed to be done on the concrete slab. When we removed a section of flooring in question, we discovered that the area was properly prepared and required no rework. It was then determined that we would call the manufacturer's representative out to determine if the material was in any way defective. It was concluded by the rep that the laminate was within industry tolerances and it was installed properly. Our installers spent considerable time actually grinding the concrete substrate to prepare it for the finish flooring. We typically use various methods (including the use of sand as a filler) to prepare a floor. Member was not present when we were reworking his floor so we cannot expect him to know that we chose a different method other than sand to flatten his concrete floor. He fails to mention that we did not increase our floor preparation charges for using a more expensive method. This situation appears to boil down to a product meeting the customer's expectations. Member wants his value laminate flooring to look like the premium grade he chose for his kitchen. Unfortunatley, we were not able to make his Chevrolet look like a Cadillac. We have tried numerous times to reach Member regarding his situation but he has not returned any of our calls.

Abbey Flooring continues to exceed my expectations after 5 years as our go-to flooring source when the need arrises. Everything from the greeting in the showroom to follow up emails as the job details were finalized was consistent. The installers were prompt, professional, and mindful of keeping the work area clean and protected. Abbey stands behind their service and even worked through our demanding schedules making visits to our home after 6pm on a weekday and accommodating our request for Saturday installation appointments. Thanks to Gordon and Debbie for the exceptional service.
Description of Work: Our relationship with Abbey Flooring goes back to 2007 when we remodeled our home. At that time, they installed Brazilian cherry hardwood, carpet and tile throughout our home. When we had issues with our grout in one of the showers in 2011, they immediately repaired it with no questions asked. Recently, we engaged Abbey for help with vinyl flooring in a 300 square foot space in our basement. The installation was completed as a rush job in September because of an impending event in our home and the final touches to address a pre-existing baseboard issue were completed on 12/15.

The salesman in the store answered questions and allowed us to take samples home. The salesman's partner measured the space in our home. However, when the installers removed the carpet and the two previous floors, I was told that we should have paid more money to remove the second old flooring. Our price was only for one floor to be removed. I don't think that should be mentioned to the client, because it is the responsibility of the salesman to investigate how many floor coverings exist. And then because there were two levels of old flooring, there was a sizable gap between the floor and the floor molding. So the installers consulted with the salesman, and I was quoted a very high price to install new floor molding! I think that Abbey should have done this for me without additional charge, because it was the fault of the salesman's incorrect quote. He should have cut into the flooring in the closet, and he would have discovered the two previous floors! So be sure that the salesman correctly investigates what is under the top floor! The installers grumbled that they already did extra work that they wouldn't be paid for when they removed the second flooring, so they weren't going to install new molding for free! I didn't have them install the new floor molding. I had to purchase new molding, and hire a contractor to cut, stain and install it! We are very satisfied with the new linoleum. The installers did a good job.

We certainly understood the Customer's concern about her moldings. We specifically spell out in our sales agreement that we cannot be responsible for hidden conditions. We do not cut into existing floors until we are hired to complete a project. Our estimator did his best to anticipate what was needed to complete the job and offered to revise the Customer's trim at our cost. We do apologize for the comments our installer made about having to do extra work - he was, in fact, compensated for all of the work he did, regardless of what he stated to the customer. I'm sure he was just as frustrated due to the additional work required. We did not charge anything additional for completing a double tear-out, however, due to the size of the job, we simply could not absorb the cost of new trim throughout her job. The great news is that she did like the end result and was pleased with our quality of installation - for this, we are very proud.

We do our best to make our customer's happy. We take precautions when moving heavy appliances out of a room but sometimes acccidents do happen. We tried to match the existing tile to repair the cracked ceramic but were not successful. We offered to replace the entire area, however the homeowner refused to have us do the job. She hired someone else and we covered the cost. We wish her well in the future and feel that we did everything possible to correct the situation. By the way, the finished floor did look terrific - she failed to mention that fact.

Our overall experience was excellent. We started looking at flooring months before installation, since we first were removing wallpaper and painting almost the whole house. We made many trips to Abbey and took home countless samples. Ian was remarkably helpful, patient and cooperative througout the months that we planned this project. He was a pleasure to work with and always shared information and advice; maintaining ongoing communication by phone, text or e-mail. Likewise, Steve was equally as helpful in answering questions and taking measurements to provide quotes, as our choices changed during the planning stage. We can't possibly have enough praise for Al and his installation crew. Al is is a highly skilled flooring artist; a perfectionist who will not cut corners and will not be satisfied until the job is done correctly. The quality of his work is impeccable. We certainly could have gotten the job done for less money, using cheaper materials and labor. But we wanted excellent quality and great service and value, and that is exactly what Abbey delivered. We continue to get many, many compliments on our flooring and highly recommend Abbey Flooring and Design.
Description of Work: We spent over $20,000 on top quality Lauzon wood flooring and porcelain tile. This covered the entire first floor of our home which consists of seven rooms. This included wood in a large great room, family room, dining room and wood herringbone in the foyer. Wood shoe molding was also installed. The kitchen, laundry room and half bath were done with porcelain tile. Kitchen backspashes were also done with marble mosaic tiles.

We went to Abbey flooring and met Debbie, who became our salesperson. She was very knowledgeable, helpful, and not pushy AT ALL. We went back a couple of times for more samples to bring home. She was patient, had good suggestions, and eventually found the one that worked for us. She set up the installation. Although they were a few hours late, due to a project that ran late through no fault of theirs, once the installers, Dan and Dan arrived, it was professionalism from then on. They worked well together, with the more experienced installer patiently explaining to the younger man not only what they had to do, but why they were doing it that way. They worked hard all day, took very few very short breaks, cleaned up as they went along, and the end result was perfect. Not a flaw, and they installed the linoleum all in one piece, having to go over and around an island and other obstacles. No seams, every edge is perfect. The price, quality, and sales and installation were all great. Will go back to them for all out needs.
Description of Work: We needed new flooring for our kitchen. After weighing our options, we realized linoleum was really the only thing we could do. We went shopping for linoleum. The best service, and no push, was from Abbey Flooring. The saleswoman, Debbie, gave us several samples to come home and try; after a few trips we decided on one. She came out the next day to measure (and she measured perfectly, even told us that the refrigerator would not fit through the doors, and she came up with a few suggestions. She scheduled the installation, kept us informed (callling us the night before and then that morning) about exactly when they would get there. The installers came out and laid the linoleum all in one piece, with no seams, and cleaned up after themselves.

AGain, as I wrote above, it went very well. My sister-in-law had a horrific experience dealing with Home Depot installers, so it was very important to me that whoever I ordered carpet from I wanted to be sure that professional and experienced installers would be provided. Abbey promised and delivered on everything.
Description of Work: We ordered carpet from them and they installed it. Pricewise - they weren't the least expensive place that I visited, but, I was impressed by the professionalism of their sales staff and that they had what we wanted within our price range. Plus, the fact that they have regular installers who have 20+ years of experience, made me feel very comfortable having them do the work. I have to say they also bent over backward to accommodate our needs. I was expecting company and they delivered and installed the carpet EXACTLY when they said they would so that my house was ready when my out-of-town guests arrived. Also, there were no hidden fees - everything was up front and honest.

This project went amazingly smooth. Two workers (Al and Edwin arrived at the house at 8:30am) completed this entire project in one day. My wife and I saved some time and effort by preparing the spaces in both rooms by moving the major appliances ourselves to a nearly family room, including the refrigerator, washer, dryer, plus anything that occupied floor space in either room (kitchen table, vacuum cleaner in laundry room, etc.) We rented an appliance-rated hand truck to accomplish this. Abbey Flooring can include removal of appliances as part of the contract as well, since it can be heavy - somewhat dangerous work (i.e. moving a refrigerator or washer.) After the new floor was installed, Al and Ed restored and connected all the major appliances, saving us the effort. They were professional and courteous. I imagine most jobs have unique challenges. Our kitchen and laundry room floorplan had several nooks and crannies requiring thoughtful consideration on how to lay out sheet vinyl to minimize visible seams. These guys had a wealth of experience to guide them. They surmounted the challenges with excellent results. I'm very pleased with the job. The new floor is beautiful. I would recommend Abbey Flooring and Design to anyone considering a new floor.
Description of Work: Removed existing no-wax vinyl floor and lauan underlayment plywood in kitchen and adjacent laundry room. Also removed (and saved) existing shoe molding from both rooms. Installed drywall screws next to existing nails on builder's subfloor to eliminate squeaks in both rooms. Installed new lauan plywood over de-squeaked subfloor with pneumatic stapler, All lauan seams were filled with joint compound to provide a continuous smooth surface to receive new vinyl flooring. Applied cement to kitchen floor in two phases, along a chalk line determined to reduce visible seams (which ended up beneath the refrigerator in the kitchen and in an inconspicuous place in the laundry room). Rolled out the 21 ft length of flooring (in two directions) from that chalk line to apply flooring in kitchen, then continued into the laundry room. They cut the flooring (on-the-fly) to fit all spaces in both rooms, creating openings where needed (heating registers, etc). Reinstalled shoe moldings with a pneumatic finish nailer. Returned major appliances (previously stored in nearly family room) to original locations in kitchen and laundry room, reattaching gas line and flexible vent on dryer, and reconnecting hoses to washer.

Abbey Flooring did a great job as our floor looks beautiful. They were very professional and any problems that I addressed to them were fixed to my satisfaction very quickly. I highly recommend them.
Description of Work: They installed ceramic tile flooring in my 20 X 18 foot kitchen and the adjoining laundry room. They installed the diamond shape tile which took about 4 days to complete. They removed the old flooring.
