He emptied the filter and removed the standing water in my washer. It is working great. I will use Bob for every appliance issue I will have in the future. He is more than fair with his pricing and is a great guy all around!

 + -1 moreA renter advised me that our oven was putting out a lot of heat, and I should get it checked out ~ this was confirmed by a handyman who tested the oven temp with a heat-sensing gun. Since we live in Illinois and this home is in Michigan, I looked on Angie's List and found Bob. After I described the problem, Bob told me the cost of a service call ($60), and the cost to fix the oven would be around $150. (Do I want to go ahead with a service call? Do I simply want to replace this very old stove? Hmmmm....) While I was thinking about it, Bob suggested I purchase an Oven Thermometer (about $10 at the hardware store), and he'll walk me thru the testing steps. Per Bob's instructions, I tested our oven twice, and it tested true to temp!!! I asked why the handyman's heat-sensing gun tested so high, and he said they're not accurate unless they're pointed at the exact center of the oven at the correct distance... it was probably pointed at a heating element! Due to Bob's sense of rightness, this cost only $10 to determine my oven was ok :) (plus now I have an Oven Thermometer, and I know how to use it!!) I HIGHLY RECOMMEND BOB, owner of Kel's Appliance Service: He's responsive, easy to work with, knowledgeable, principled, and truly honorable. I've got him on Speed Dial :)

 + -1 moreThis guy is great for a few reasons, least of all that he fixed the problem. He came out the same day I called him. Brought the correct part out the next day. He was running a few minutes late, but called me to inform me what time he would arrive. My sister-in-law was visiting our house a few days later and told us it was not working again. I called Bob, he was literally there in less than 15 minutes to test it. When he arrived he did a temperature test and everything indicated it was working fine. He said he was going to research the problem that night. I did a little investigating myself and found out my Sister-in-law was using it on air dry, no heat required. I called him and apologized for him having to come here again and offered to pay for his time. He declined the offer. To be clear he did fix the original problem. This guy is a true Gem.

Description of Work: Based on his rating on Angies list, I called Kel tto schedule an appointment for refrig repair. Kel researched the issue over the phone and called me back several times. We discussed the possibility that this repair may be under warranty. Kel indicated that he didn't do warranty repair and referred me to the proper service provider. I felt he was very honest and could have done the repair without telling me about the warranty service.

Description of Work: When I was trying to fix my dishwasher myself, Bob gave me advice a couple times over the phone at no charge. He clearly cared more about our needs being met than about generating a sale. When I couldn't get the job done, he came to our house and got the dishwasher running. He was friendly, professional and careful. The dishwasher is still running well.

 + -1 moreAfter 15 years my gas clothes dryer had quit making heat but would still tumble clothes and run thru the select cycles. Initially I tried to call a previous service provider I had used and found the number I dialed only answered by ATT and an offer was presened to dial another provider as the number was no longer in service. Discouraged I went out and priced replacement dryers online and in local stores.After finding a couple units I decided to find another repair provider to get an opinion on the units and possibly hire the provider to do the installation. I called Kel's Appliance and Bob answered. He indicated he could get to me the same day after a stop he already had planned. The proposed time was 5:15PM. Bob recommended I first have him look at the unit to see if it would be better to repair it. When he arrived on site he looked and noticed the duct had quite a bit of lint stuck in it but felt after seeing the operation of the other functions that there might be something simple to repair. After opening up the unit he found a bad fuse near the ignition switch and replaced it. While he was at it he cleaned the unit, removing a lot of dust and dirt much of which was tuck in crevices and behind components I would not have been able to get to. Bob then went outside found the duct and cleaned it (it was located under my deck). Bob then returned inside and cut and better placed the duct where is goes into the wall. All of this took just under two hours and afterward Bob cleaned the area and I happily wrote him a check. All the while this guy was working he explained how to maintain the appliance and how a gas driyer works. He also had me look inside the unit so I would know how to judge the heating unit is still working like new. After all of this I'm confident this dryer is ready for several more years of duty. I've already told four friends about Bob and Kel's Applicance Service and will confidently use this company for future repair needs.

He looked up the prices of the circuit boards for the dryer and recommended that I spend the money on buying a new dryer instead of spending that much money on the repair. I really appreciate him taking the time to diagnose and make a recommendation on the phone. Based on Robert's recommendation, we are looking into buying a new dryer. I truly appreciate his honesty and professionalism.

He listened to all of my concerns regarding my 15 year old convection slide in range/oven and was able to troubleshoot and repair the problems.  + -1 moreI am so relieved I did not have to go out and buy new washer dryer sets. For $400 I now am all set up for another several years. Don't throw away your old appliance, get them fixed and working like new. I know it is hard to find persistant repair guys. Many just don't want to work on the harder problems. Saved me a couple thousand dollars having Bob fix 4 appliances. Bob is a retired 20 year navy man and in the service he repaired all sorts of things. Some people are just naturals. Get the right guy.
Description of Work: Have you ever had an appliance repair man tell you you need to buy a new appliance because your parts were no longer available? How many times have purchased a washer and dryer set because you wanted them to match and one of your set has been told it is junk. Well that is what almost happened to me. Last year, 2012, I was told by one appliance repair company (that also sold appliances) that my 12 year old Bosch WFK2401UC had a broken pump and that pump was no longer available and I would have to buy a whole new washer. Well that is a problem for me as my space is small and it is difficult to find Washer/Dryer sets to fit in my small stackable W/D closet. My dryer has gone on to work just fine another year and I have been carrying my laundry from my upstairs Whirlpool stackable washer to my bosch dryer for a year because my Whirlpool dryer would not run at all. I have been limping by for over a year trying to find suitable appliances to replace the ones I was told were in need of replacement. Enter Kel's Appliance...A couple of weeks ago, my sister told me about Bob Kelnhofer who she had met a month ago and how he fixed all kinds of large appliances. I thought I would give him a try. So, I called him and that very day, he came over and checked out my multiple problems. I also showed him where my whirlpool LEw0050pq was cracked around the ring of the door. I am very leary of dryers because they build up lint inside and that can cause fires. Both dryers were over 10 years old, So I asked him to clean both dryers. He took apart my Whirlpool dryer and cleaned it and found the reason it would not power on was a couple of screws were loose. Yeah! now I had a working washer and dryer on my main floor. He inspected the Bosch washer and ran it through a cycle or 2 and found it giving a 03 error. That is the error for the pump related problems. I get this error when my filter needs cleaned out but I had already cleaned it so he double checked my job and said that was not the problem and checked some internal tubes and found one blocked. Now it works like a champ!!!! That night he ordered the ring and also pulled down the maintenance manuals since all my appliances are foreign made and not what he normally works on. Two days later he went to work on replacing the ring and cleaning my bosch dryer he said was a tricky one to get into.
