Wiseman Tree Experts

Mark Mayhoe of Wiseman Tree is a highly-skilled, meticulous, safe, and intelligent man of integrity. Our neighbors used him to take down the largest tree in East Lansing (photo included), which he did single-handedly. His number one priority is safety: people, pets, home, car, traffic, power lines, et cetera. He has his own chipper, and hauls away all of the logs--unless you want it. They rake up and sweep up the mess. He is an arborist too, so he knows when you should and should NOT trim/prune oaks and ornamental cherry trees, for example. Therefore, rather than take your money, and prune/trim a tree when it is most vulnerable to disease, he values the tree and your long term value of it. He has roped-in and pruned snow and ice-damaged conifers, such as arborvitae and cedars. They also do tree fertilization, but I haven't used that service. We have used Mark for thousands and thousands of dollars of trimming, pruning, and tree removal for many years, and we highly recommend him. He is 100% trustworthy, and I have--on many occasions--requested him to do trimming and tree removal by simply calling him by phone. He can be trusted to see what needs to be done, call you to let you know what he plans, and perform the work, without you showing him or you even being there. There are few skilled craftsmen I trust more than Mark Mayhoe of Wiseman Tree. In recent years, he has carefully selected a small crew as well, and they are a very safe, well-orchestrated team.

They did a wonderful job. They trimmed the branches from two walnut trees very close to the house. They were very professional in using a safe technique to keep the branches away from the house. They cut the large pieces into firewood and put it in the back by our pile of firewood and then ground up all the excess and took it away. Great job.

Wiseman Tree Experts trimmed several trees and cut down one tree. The owner, Mark Mayhoe, came out to give an estimate. As we walked around our property with him, it was evident that his knowledge about trees earned him the word "expert" in his business name. We really appreciated the information he gave us about our trees as to what needed work now, which included our desire to eliminate all large branches that hung over the house, how some trees were growing into others, and what would be beneficial in the future with the goal to save our trees and keep the strong. Mark was in contact with us through the process. He followed up by viewing the work when it was finished and making sure it was done to our expectations. It surpassed our expectations. We also appreciated the layout of the estimate. Each separate tree had a letter, a description as to what was to be done, and at the bottom, the corresponding letter gave the price for that part of the work. It was thorough and could help us to decide if there was room to add more work or decide if we wanted to wait on any work. We decided to have all the work that was estimated done. The crew was hardworking, on time, nice, and talented in their work, and clean up was very good. We are so happy to have the Wiseman Tree Experts do such great work.

They are THE BEST!! I cannot say enough good things about them. He said good suggestions, they came promptly, and did their work amazingly. They did not leave any little branches behind! They are just superb.

Wiseman Tree Service had the best price quote AND could get the tree down the following week (the others couldn't get to me for weeks; and with a tree that could fall on my house with a stiff breeze, I wasn't interested in waiting WEEKS!). They were very honest and, overall, I'd say they did a great job with the tree and the service, but the communication and organization left a bit to be desired. Nothing big, just a series of small things that were a bit irritating. For instance, the quote was supposed to be left in the mailbox, but after two phone calls, they ended up emailing it to me. Then Mark was supposed to call me to set up a time to bring the tree down, but after a day and a half, I called him. Then we set up a time for him to come out (1PM) and when my husband got home at 12:30, the work was already done. They called 24 hours later and wanted to set up a time to get a check (which could have been handled already had the work been done during the set time). In the end, everything worked out; the tree was taken care of fast and the price was right. I'd definitely work with them again.

I had purchased a coupon for $99 for $200 of tree services. Their estimate was $1400.00. M & M Outdoor Services estimated $400.00!!!! I really feel taken by buying the coupon. I have wasted $99.00!!

The provider & office staff were extremely polite, cooperative & pleasant to deal with. An estimate was done quickly, The provider said it might be a couple of weeks, but that he would come sooner if they had an opening, He called 3 days later & said they could come outright away. I was not at home but had them come out anyway. When I got home everything was done, Great job. The provider called that night & arranged to come out the next morning. He came as scheduled & took a check plus my Angie's list coupon., which I had purchased. I was extremely satisfied & would use them again..

They do a good job of cleaning up. They came out and do an estimate and he explained the type of trees that I was having a problem with. I told him what I wanted. We later made a plan for him to come out and do the work on a day that I would not be home. On that day, when I came home, I checked the yard and noted that everything I had asked him to do had been done correctly. I told him that next year when I had more dead branches on my sugar maple tree that I would be giving him a call.

I am so glad that I called Wiseman. Have had tree removal service previously on 3 occasions and this was by far the BEST! I can't say enough about the friendly crew who accommodated my extra requests like leveling a slanted existing stump and leaving me a small pile of wood chips for my landscaping. They removed two large problem Maples that were growing between two old metal fences on my property line, cut down a rotting lilac bush and hauled away an old brush pile behind the garage.They also left a neat pile of firewood at my request and then cleaned up the driveway after chipping. Not only was Mark Mayhoe professional, knowledgable and pleasant when he came for the estimate but I feel this was by far the best pricing for tree removal service anywhere. I highly recommend Wiseman and their delightful crew of professionals.

It was great. The owner, Mark, came out, gave me an estimate and stuck to the estimate. He did a great job, provided expert recommendations on what would need to be trimmed, and cleaned up after the work was done. I highly recommend him to others. He did such a good job that my condo association is now considering hiring him as well for the whole community.

They did a very good job. The whole experience was very nice. They arrived on time, went right to work and got the job done quickly. It was discovered I had other trees and shrubs growing where the tree was removed. Mark gave me good advice concerning what to keep and what to remove. I wouldn't hesitate to hire Wiseman again

It went very well. This is the third time I have used this company and they have always been very efficient and very clean. They are also very resonably cost effective.

We were really impressed with the process. They had had a minimal amount of equipment but they got everything done that we wanted. They were able to manuver very well around stationary objects that we weren't able to get out of the way. On top of all that, they were very efficient and finished within 2 or 3 hours with no breaks. There were no complications and we were very happy with the result. They gave us the lowest quote but still did a great job. My only critique is that their equipment wasn't state of the art. The owner was very approachable throughout all phases of the project.

These men were amazing. They went above and beyond the call of duty to provide the services I needed. They fit me into their schedule on short notice and did everything I asked and more without hesitation. They are very knowledgeable and professional workers.

Due to a very rainy and stormy June the project was delayed. But once the weather cleared Wiseman came out and dedicated an entire day to complete the project. They were professional, diligent, and did a great job.

Mark and Dara were excellent to work with. They responded quickly with a quotation and were very professional and friendly to talk with both on the phone and the job site. Their work was also excellent. All work was done professionally and as expected. They also cleaned everything up. There price was also the best of several that we checked.

They have been fantastic and very thorough with everything. He did let me know that it would take 2 visits to finish job. First to remove the tree and second to remove the stump. As long as I know what is going on, I really don't care. They came out yesterday and quickly removed the tree. Cleaned everything up. He assured me they would be back within 1 week for the stump removal.

They did a decent job, but talked me out of shaping as I wanted the two trees in the main landscaped areas, instead suggesting I wait a year to see if they fill out. I wish I had not listened to them and had them shape the trees as I wanted, but time will tell. The owner was very professional, the price was fair, and I might use them again --perhaps with more specific direction.

I called Wiseman and 2 other companies to get bids on removing the tree. A very large branch had fallen down in high winds and was laying across our lawn, and since this was the 2nd branch in 2 years, despite the fact that 3 different tree companies (not including Wiseman) had told us the tree would be fine after last year's damage, we opted to have the whole thing removed. I called Wiseman and after a brief bit of phone tag for an afternoon, we got things figured out to where someone would come out and take a look the next day (a Tuesday). By this point, one of their competitors had told me they could have someone out by the end of the week, so that was progress. Wednesday they called me with a quote left on my voicemail since I was in a meeting all day and unable to return the call. Thursday is when the communications (see "Responsiveness" grade) took a nose dive. I called back Thursday morning saying we would accept their quote (it was lower than one other competitor and the other one hadn't even called me back yet from a message on Monday!), and asked for them to please return the call with an estimate of when they could come out and perform the service. By the following Monday (at least 2 whole business days -- Thursday and Friday, if they don't work Saturday), I still heard nothing, so I called again. Finally, on Tuesday afternoon, I dug around on the Internet to find an e-mail address and sent an e-mail. We almost called a competitor back, deciding that paying more but actually getting the work done was more useful than getting a lower price and not getting the work done. Consider that this is 4 business days without any response. It seems like they have a very small operation, and could pay more attention to the phone messages on their main line. I understand if someone's not available right away, but phone calls should be returned next business day as a common courtesy. Finally, Mark did return my e-mail (very quickly in fact), and thought he could get to the tree the next week but would try for sooner. As it turned out, he was able to get the tree removed the next day (the 5th business day since I accepted their quote), although they had to return Thursday to remove some of the cut pieces. He contacted me Wednesday evening to let me know that they'd be returning to do that and that it would probably be sometime in the next week or the following week before they got to the stump. This was good, because had he not told me, I would have been very confused. Service professionals: if you are supposed to do multiple services, but for whatever reason can only perform some, leave a note. Having arrived home before he called, and finding no note about the extra pieces, I was confused for a short while (as I said, he did call early that evening, but still, this is an easily avoidable situation). They were able to return early the following week to grind out the stump, and overall, we are satisfied with the quality of the work done, but the rough communications does sour my review slightly. I would still contact them again, although I might call someone else if it was an emergency (e.g. tree on house).

This company was recommended by my State Farm agent to check out a huge tree I was concerned about. Before I had a chance to call them about that, I had another tree with a large limb hanging into and touching the street. I called and Mark came out within minutes to check it out & give me an estimate. I decided to have them remove the limb and they were out, removed it, disposed of it, & cleaned up within 2 1/2 hours of when I first called. Awesome job. Will be calling again to have other trimming done in the future.

Went very well. I thought they were going to be there in the afternoon but when I checked they were already done before noon. My son was taking the day off and sent me the following email after the work was done: "They were very methodical/professional in how they cut these trees. They stackd wood neatly and didn't leave any mess in the yard." That sums up how things went. If you need trees removed but were afraid of what the cost might be, call the crew at Wiseman Tree Experts. You'll wonder why you waited so long. Excellent work at an excellent price.

Mark Mahoe is very professional and personable. He came out a few days after I called and gave me an excellent estimate. When I had the most recent tree cut down last fall (using a Groupon), the company who did the job said they'd be willing to remove the stump in the spring for about $40. I thought that was a reasonable price, but wasn't interested in working with that particular company again. The estimate from Wiseman Tree Experts was significantly less, per stump, and a much nicer experience overall. They ground the stumps while I was out of town for work, as previously discussed, and waited until I was back to bill me. Mark came over personally to make sure I was happy with the work before collecting payment. I will definitely do business with Wiseman Tree Experts in the future and will recommend them to friends and family. Nice company.
