+ 0 moreI was unhappy in the end. The guy took shortcuts. He used the wrong kind of cement. His own guys told me he used the wrong kind of cement for pouring a radiant floor. I had to redo it. I had it redone by someone else. He started another job and delayed my finish which I know they do regularly. He told me he would be done by a certain time and he wasn't. I have had 3 people try to fix it since. I have not really got it fixed, but it's somewhat fixed. There was a crawlspace that they didn't seal under the sunroom. There is so little access. There is only 12 inches of access that we can get in there and fix it.
Description of Work: Slater Home Improvement put in an additional room, a sunroom, for me in November 2008.

+ 0 moreThe house looks beautiful from the street but there a couple of things I wish they would have done; at one point they found ants and really did not give me a lot of time to go to the store to get ant spray before they put siding right over it. Also at one point they broke off a fence post, which admittedly was rotten but they did not bring it to my attention; they just kind of covered over it by screwing the fence post to the side of the house. They have been very friendly with the follow up and offered to replace that piece of siding which had been screwed into the side of the house. I will not use them again in the future.
Description of Work: I used Slater Home Improvement to install new siding and gutters. They also added new shutters on all my windows.

+ -1 moreKirk Slater was at the house every day to make for sure things were going as they should. We were not exactly sure how we wanted the building to look, what windows to put where and of course the wall with the fireplace. Kirk was at our house every Tuesday night throughout September and October to make for sure we were positive of what we wanted and what we could afford. There were also, many phone calls to Kirk during the evening after work hours. We ended up having to get a variance to go closer to the road and a few inches to the side yard. Kirk went with us to the township board to support and explain anything we needed in order to move forward. Kirk met again in our front yard with our neighbor and the township to let our neighbor know exactly what was going to happen with the building project so as not to disrupt our neighbors yard or holiday season. He made for sure everyone was on the same page and were happy. Not once did I see Kirk get stressed with me over my many, many questions. His crew Jerry and Steve were the most courteous and thoughtful gentlemen we have had work on our home. They never showed anxiety over my many questions, either. Kirk wrote up the contract word for word what they would be doing. He read it to us as we followed along to make for sure we both were on the same page. The price was exactly what he quoted except for the extra window and electrical outlets we added on. The work was done exactly as written. There were no surprises. Jerry and Steve told me daily what to expect from beginning to end. Such as today we are going to put up the side walls and roof. Today we will be taking the old wall down. Etc. etc. Their time line was right on target. The details of the job they did from start to finish were already written in the above paragraph on services performed. I highly recommend Kirk Slater and his crew.
Description of Work: Slater Home Improvement added on to our existing dining/living area. They also, put a new roof on including the roof boards. The area added on to is a cathedral ceiling area. We had wanted to leave the room as a large room with a cathedral ceiling but due to the main beam support we would have had to tear down the ceiling and redo the whole front of the house of which we could not afford. Kirk Slater and his crew were the only ones who gave us an alternative idea that we could use and still keep the cathedral ceiling a great room. I did not want a column in the middle. They built a 4 foot wall, putting in a fire place. It was just beautiful. A four window door was put in the front. A patio door on the side. They removed a window of which you would never know it had been there. They replaced old windows with new energy windows. Everything was sealed and chaulked. They made for sure there were no drafts before they left. Lights were added to the cathedral area. Areas where they came across a concern such as lack of insulation around the area where old windows were replaced with new were discussed. The guys put extra insulation in at no charge. This was done over the holidays. They kept everything neat and cleaned up. We had our holiday parties as scheduled. Kirk even helped us out by lending us some tables. Due to the winter snow and ice there were hard blocks of dirt unable to smooth out. Kirk had his crew bring sledge hammers and picks and break up the blocks of dirt so it could be transported away. They stored some of their tools and wood for the house in our garage. After leaving, our garage was swepted clean and looked better than before they came. We have had other builders add on a bedroom for us years ago and a garage. We have never had someone care about our home as Kirk and his crew. They are professional in all they do. They treated our home as if it were their own. They are perfectionist. Our home is an older home and was unlevel. This made it very difficult for them. But they never complained and just worked through it. I am saving now so that they can come back and redo the kitchen.
