David did a great job! We were really pleased and had to talk him out of tearing it out and doing it again. He saw what he considered an imperfection that we could not even see in direct sunlight! He cleaned everything up very well. He maintained the agreed-upon price even after some unexpected complications. He did not come the first time that he said and did not call until that evening. It was not an issue for us, but an earlier call would have been better. Good guy who does great work at a fair price!

Description of Work: David Nelson never came back to repair my cement from a job he did in April 2012 The brick repair work was fine, but the cement porch and steps he poured were terrible, a very bad job. He admitted it. But then he never returned phone calls or emails. He set up an appointment and never showed up. He washed his hands of my job and honoring his work. I would not trust him to re-do the porch and steps now. I would like a refund but I gave up on him. An honest man would tell me upfront that he doesn't have the skills to do the cement work and refund my money, but not this man. So much for the "Christian" values he claims he has.

Quality of work was excellent. Once he started the job, everything went well. The only negative was that it took him quite a few weeks to start the job once we signed a contract with him. A lot of the problem had to do with all the rainy days.

David Nelson is a very professional fellow. He listened to the needs that I had to cover a cracked concrete front stoop and one step with Ohio Blue flagstone to match a walkway that was recently added. When I first contracted with him his work schedule was such that he couldn't start for about 4 weeks. He gave me a very fair quote and a 50% payment was made. Although David was 3-4 days late in starting, he had accessional rationale. Once he got started, he battled a terrible scourge of mosquitos and a very rainy week to get the work done. I was unhappy with how recessed one stone in the center of the top step was. I mentioned it to him and he professionally corrected the stone to my satisfaction. He is very kind, soft-spoken, professional and conscientious.

Dave Nelson failed to complete the work. Shortly after cashing my check for deposit, he began to make excuses for delays. He originally told me it would take a day and a half to complete the work. As of this writing, seven weeks have elapsed. When he started the job, he removed some bricks for replacement as contracted to do. For nearly two weeks, however, my house had holes due to missing bricks because Mr. Nelson did not replace the bricks with new or used ones in a timely manner. He said he was searching for bricks even though when hired he told me he had matching bricks. After several phone calls and text messages, he finally returned to fill in the holes with bricks. But a couple bricks were mortared into place even though they were recessed and not flushed with the foundation. Plus, the mortar is not consistent in color and even covers over part of the bricks in a noticeably sloppy condition. I contacted Mr. Nelson about the problem and he said he would come back to fix it as well as to complete the other work. He never did. I am now faced with suing Mr. Nelson for breach of contract and hiring someone to repair and complete the work. UPDATE: David Nelson cashed my check for deposit but did not perform the contract. After posting a complaint on 10/29/13, Mr. Nelson agreed to return my deposit following the company's poor workmanship on my house. However, Mr. Nelson again, did not keep his word and has neither returned my deposit nor fulfilled the work as contracted to do. Mr. Nelson did sloppy brickwork by not leveling some bricks or centering with the correct mortar to brick ratio. Mr. Nelson had the audacity to ask me to remove my complaint from Angie's List in exchange for money. For months, Mr. Nelson has not ameliorated the shoddy work his company has done.

Dave is very straightforward to work with. I got a quote from him in August, and after dragging my feet for about a month, I called him to give him the go-ahead, and to my surprise he came over that evening to get started. When I came home from work the next day, I had new concrete. There were a few clean up issues that were dealt with the next morning. Overall everything was very good. The reason I marked professionalism as a B is that a couple of our landscape lights were smashed at some point during the job. After a little negotiating, Dave subtracted $20 off our bill to compensate, which seemed reasonable, but I still have to fix/replace those lights.
Description of Work: Repaired a concrete landing adjacent to our front porch. The crumbling brick border was removed, the concrete surface was ground down, and fresh concrete was poured over the surface and into what used to be the brick border. Several seams in the porch brick work were repaired.

He was delayed due to a pryor job but when I called and asked about the service he picked up his work and came over within an hour. The prior job kept adding "stuff" for him to do. Work begain immediately and I couldn't be happier. He was a very nice young man and he explained everything he was doing. String and levelers were used so that the brick work was perfectly aligned. Upon completion the brick 1/2 wall looked better than it ever had. He was knowledgeable, friendly, and completely competent. I referred him to our neighbor where he corrected a water problem in their chimmney. My neighbors were also completely satisfied and found him to be as easy to work with as we did. I am having him back later in the year to repair work on my chimmney. I cannot say enough about his work ethic. The only problem is not hearing from him about when he was going to show up after the original estimate date was set. It was well worth the wait. The result was superior in my opinion and I did not have to pay for a boatload of workers as most of the work was performed by him.
Description of Work: The brick facing on our house separated from the home itself. All bricks were removed, cleaned, and reattached. New bricks were added and the attachment was done the way it should have been in the first place.

Dave did a good job at a reasonable price. He was a bit slow getting started and finishing, but I was clear I was more interested in a good job than a fast job, and he had some other project that was pulling a bunch of his time. He also did a nice job capping the steps coming down from the porch. I would use Dave again.

David called and sent an email on Saturday August 10 stating that he could start the job around noon on that day. He arrived and began cleaning brick that we had salvaged from when the house was built in 1977. He placed a tarp over some adjacent windows to protect them from dust and old flying mortar. This was completed at 5 PM that day. He returned on Monday and worked for 3 hours in a rainy drizzle. Came back on Tuesday and completed the job; caulked a seal around the window and cleaned up all of his tools. The work was completed in a professional manner and we are very satisfied with the results. Not only that but he placed a 15 year guarantee on the work done.

After many attempts, it is clear that the company will no longer return my calls. I am disappointed in this service.
Description of Work: The provider did not return my calls to fulfill the chimney cap warranty he gave me in April 2012.
My chimney has been leaking in the inside hall during the extreme rains of April...I found David on Angie's list after interviewing and getting estimates from two other masons...I have just been delighted with the work that David did on my home...During the intense rains yesterday and last night, I had a dry hall/closet...David was very efficient in his estimate...I knew what he was going to do and exactly what it would cost...He had a camera and took pictures on the roof that he could show and explain to me what the problem was...He guaranteed his work and told me that he did the job right the first time and did not have to repeat his efforts...I liked that kind of response...I felt like he cared about the repair of my chimney and did his absolute best to get it done correctly...I have hired him again for three other projects...He is a real find...
Description of Work: David replaced the chimney cap, repaired cracked joints in need of repair, tucked point chimney, caulked along the roof line and spots on the counter flashing...The problem I was having was a leaky chimney into the inner hall of my home...

To help control dust, one worker used the masonry saw while the other held a vacuum cleaner to capture as much dust as possible. I placed a fan at the sliding door to pull dust out of the room. We also connected the hose from my shop vacuum to the discharge of their shop vacuum and directed the vacuum cleaner exhaust out the sliding door. A HEPA filteredvacuum cleaner would have been better.
Description of Work: DN Masonry was hired to reduce the size of our brick fireplace. They used masonry saws and jack hammers to cut 16 inches off of both ends of the fireplace (both mantle and hearth). Knowing this would generate a lot of dust they took care to isolate the family room using with visqueen tarps taped to the ceiling and walls. They also covered a ceiling fan to protect it from dust. They did a thorough clean up when completed. They had to place the removed brick and mortar in buckets to carry the waste around the house and into their truck which was parked in the street. Dave Nelson then applied some of the removed brick to the fireplace hearth to finish the cut ends.

David returned my initial inquiry same day, completed site inspection the following day. He and employee began the work the following week, arrived on site and began work prior to 0700. Job took about 2-3 days to complete, David returned within 2 weeks to remove the framework after the concrete cured. No leak issues with the chimney since completion. David and employee cleaned all concrete dust and other debris from the yard, deck, furniture and even my potted plants! I highly recommend David Nelson of DN Masonry.
Description of Work: Cut out 138 feet of joints and tuck point, removed concrete chimney cap, poured new cap with 1 1/2 overhang, caulked fascia board, sealed chimney and new cap, clean up and removal of all debris. Labor warranty of 15 years in addition to a Mfg. warranty. 50% due prior to construction and remainder due at completion.

It went very well. He and his crew were respectful of my house. They even did a good job cleaning up.
Description of Work: David Nelson took out the old brick on my chimney and replaced them. My house was built in 63 and he did quite well with the matching of the brick. Also he was upfront about what was causing the issues and he was knowledgeable on how to fix it. He was professional and broke it down so I could easily understand everything that was going on. He also placed a new cap on the top of my chimney, which when they removed the old one they found a crack in the liner so they replaced that as well. I was impressed how he told me my options. He remembered that I considered a gas insert but helped me go through the pros and cons and got it fixed. He was expedient on getting the pieces needed so the work could be done in an expedited fashion.

Dave and his crew did a great job! My chimney looks fantastic! The area around the work site was cleaned up very well, no damage to any of my landscaping or lawn. The only way you could tell they were there was the fact that my chimney is now in great shape! I would recommend D N Masonry to everyone, They are courteous and professional. Work was performed as stated and on time. The price was very reasonable. I will have Dave and his crew back next year for more brick/masonry work.

Description of Work: DN Masonry explained the steps in detail in putting in our concrete drive. They were concerned about our inconvenient. Dave shoveled a gravel brim on the side of the curb so we could get on the street without hitting the bottom of the car on the curb while the concrete was curing. they were more concerned about a quality job then a fast job. They did not leave any building material or trash behind.
