I joined Angie's list to seek out a contractor to replace our heating and cooling equipment, and was impressed by the glowing reviews given to All Star Mechanical. When I called Larry, he was great on the phone and quickly set up an appointment. When we met, I was pleased with his thoroughness and attention to detail. He clearly explained his services and business philosphy and presented several equipment options for our circumstances. He described the similarities and differences between various models and took careful measurements. I was pleased with the estimate and Larry's presentation, so decided to go with All Star. Additionally, I opted for a humidifier and an air cleaner to be installed at the same time. Larry showed up punctually and went to work. The installation went smoothly and quickly, and the work was performed in a professional and workmanlike manner. All packing materials and waste were removed, and the installation is neat and tidy. I'm totally pleased with both the equipment and the service, and I'd go with All Star again in a heartbeat. Larry's excellent reviews on Angie's List are well-deserved and I'm pleased to add mine as well.

I spent $175 on that work. They had to make a few visits because they did not have the part. The part itself was covered under warranty. I would probably use them again in the future. Nothing really stood out but they did nothing wrong either. They were pretty available. They were here when they said they would be.

In short Larry is Honest, Hardworking, Efficient, Timely, Considerate, Reasonably priced, Clean and Organized. His work is truly top-notch and I believe he is the best out there in his field of work. He has a high standard for himself and it shows. I live in a 100 + year old house and the old gas furnace was at least 50 years old. It sat in the living room, heating only that room to about 65, while the other rooms were either closed off or below 58. It also had a delayed ignition problem which had been looked at and cleaned multiple times, during which no one could find a problem with it. One night it had a mini explosion without me adjusting any of the controls. (The same as it had done before when initially turning it on.) This experience scared me so much I had to have it replaced. I was referred to Larry through my boyfriend. His quote was the least expensive and he seemed like he would do the best job. And this job wasn?t going to be easy considering the cellar has some tight, dark, and dirty spaces in which to put ducts. Larry?s plan of where to put ducts was very well thought out and strategic in order to give me the best distribution of heat. He communicated his ideas well and arrived when he said he would on the day he was to begin. When he did the drilling in the floor for the ducts he kept the floors and cellar as clean, if not cleaner, than he found it. This really impressed me! This job was probably one of his more difficult ones because of the layout of the foundation and the seemingly inaccessible places, but he did not complain and finished sooner than I expected. He estimated it to take 2-3 days and he was done by the end of the 2nd day. He also had to bleed the gas line at one point, which made the stove and oven pilots go out. He lit them for me again. When he left after the first day, he left some tools behind, but they were very neat and organized piles and in places that would not disturb me. He also took some time to teach me about how the furnace works, and how to shut it off and change the filter. When he was finished he took all the debris with him as well as the old furnace. I did not have to clean up any materials or pieces of the cut out floor. This is the best experience I?ve ever had with someone working on this house. Finally, he called the following day to make sure the heat was working like it should be and that I was comfortable. Thanks to Larry, I?m back to living in all parts of this house instead of camping in the living room and all before my crazy school semester starts again. I definitely recommend Larry for all jobs within his scope of practice!

In my experience, Larry Kirchhoff demonstrated good workmanship and a high degree of professionalism. I am completely satisfied with the end result of this job, and I would not hesitate to contact him for future work. I had already purchased a humidifier, and I called Larry about installation. We scheduled an in-home estimate to determine cost of installation -- he was able to provide a lower-cost humidifier with similar characteristics, so we returned the unit we had purchased, and scheduled for Larry to perform the installation, and to service the furnace at the same time. Larry waived the estimate fee, and did not require a downpayment. He arrived promptly at the scheduled time, with one assistant, installed a flow-through style humidifier, and serviced the furnace. The cost of the job matched the price I was quoted, which included a small discount. I was satisfied with the work. The next day, I discovered water accumulating in the basement, where the furnace is located. I found that Larry's humidifier installation was not directly the cause. The output from the flow-through humidifier had been run to the same drain that receives the condensation from the A/C, and he explained this to me at the time of installation. Unfortunately, I found that the builders of the property improperly constructed the drain, which was thus unable to cope with the extra input from the humidifier; after a period of time, the drain had backed up. I called Larry to explain the problem, and he agreed to replace the flow-through humidifier with a drum humidifier, which produces no waste water during normal operation. He graciously performed this installation at no additional cost, and took time to carefully explain how to keep the drum humidifier clean. The drum humidifier is functioning well, and I've had no subsequent problems. I expect that many other contractors would have left me to fend for myself once the agreed-upon work had been completed and paid for. For Larry's professionalism and desire to ensure that a job is done correctly, I would recommend All Star Mechanical to anyone looking for a contracter specializing in Heating & A/C, without qualification.

I was very impressed with Larry's ability to sell his competence and skill rather than overloading the customer with the products he provides. For a layperson trying to purchase an appliance, it is most important to have confidence in the installer's ability and knowledge. You are essentially relying on another person's know-how to provide the proper installation. The reviews on Angie's List and Larry's qualifications gave me the confidence I was hoping to find. Larry didn't attempt to sell me any specific equipment, but rather presented the options, the price-points and pros and cons of each. His product offerings are not extensive, but are clearly high-quality. This streamlined product list made narrowing down to my needs very simple. The installation was fast. After my initial Sunday night call for an estimate, the furnace was completely installed on Wednesday. The water heater and humidifier were installed on Friday. Everything appears to be operating as expected and the installation looks very impressive and clean. Aside from some very minor clean-up, there were no issues whatsoever with this contract. I am very pleased and confident that I will have smooth, efficient, quiet heating equipment for decades.

Larry is outstanding. He was very responsive right from the start. He was by far the most thorough of any of the three contractors I spoke with. He carefully measured our home, recommended the right size furnace, answered my multiple emailed questions, and promptly scheduled the work when we finally decided to move forward. He came on time, was extremely particular about the work, and cleaned everything up. He was very timely and stuck right to business. He went out of his way to provide us with a different thermostat plate so we wouldn't have do to any touch-up painting. I would use him for any future work I needed done. He is GREAT!

Larry Kirchhoff (owner/installer) was excellent to work with. I am an engineer and a fussy person to work for on a job like this. I had some specific equipment and installation specs and Larry worked with me from start to finish. He was able to get the specific equipment I wanted and did the installation work with the utmost skill and professionalism. He is trying his best to built his small business reputation and he works hard this. I give him an excellent recommendation.

My 31 year old furnace was no longer safe to use and I needed estimates on getting a new one. When Larry came to the house, he was prompt, courteous and professional. He was thorough in assessing my home's heating needs and didn't rush through the consultation. He listened to my concerns and was knowledgeable in answering my questions. All Star Mechanical offered everything I was looking for; a quality, reliable product, excellent service and a great price. The consultation was on a Friday and on the following Monday, Larry arrived as scheduled and installed the new furnace. His price was also so reasonable, I was able to upgrade to a more efficient furnace. What I liked most about Larry is his integrity. He has a great work ethic. It's important to get a dependable product but an installer who cares about doing it right is priceless.

After having problems with our very old air conditioner this summer, we decided to take advantage of the numerous tax credits and rebates and update our system to a 95% efficient furnace, new air conditioning, high efficiency air filter, and humidifier. The first place I looked for contractors was Angie?s list. I subsequently requested quotations from three of the highly rated contractors including All Star Mechanical. I was impressed with All Star Mechanical from the first meeting. He brought pictures of installations, which I appreciated since it was evidence of how the work would be performed and he carefully explained the options. He did an energy survey of my home (as did one of the other contractors). Of the three options, All Star Mechanical was the least expensive and I was comfortable with the Ruud product line already, so I selected them. From day one, the work was done very professionally. He worked around our travel schedule and was able to install right after we got back from a trip. He does the installations himself with an apprentice and is very hard working. He covered the stairs with drop cloths so as to not dirty them. The installation is first rate and I?m very happy with it. Our installation was delayed by a couple of factors and ended up taking more time than expected. When he installed the air conditioning, it was not performing well due to a defective expansion valve. He replaced the entire evaporator and made sure the unit was performing completely up to specifications. He also ran into problems when installing the water line for the humidifier. When he closed the very old valves in my home on the water heater, they began to leak. He ended up changing both valves on the water heater and considered that just part of the job. Old valves in our water system caused him to have to do quite a bit of extra work. He did not charge extra for this work or the new valves he had to install. When he was done he went over all details on how to use the system and how to handle seasonal changeovers. The system looks great and is working perfectly. It is quiet and cools better than our old system. I look forward to the decreased utility bills. I could not be happier with the outcome. There is a reason All Star Mechanical is so highly rated here.

I wanted to take advantage of the HVAC credit which is expiring at the end of 2010, so hired Larry Kirchoff to put in a new furnace. He didn't disappoint, wonderful job, filled out all the paperwork, and w/the 10% off coupon on Angie's list and the Consumers Energy credit, I wound up saving almost half. He even threw in a free a/c tune up! No regrets & would highly recommend!

Although I eventually decided upon another company, I have the highest regard for Larry Kirchhoff and All Star Mechanical. He was patient, answered my many questions, and cheerfully put up with the long time I took to decide. He was thorough and did the estimating job right. He was knowledgeable, on time and friendly each time we met as well as helpful with email questions. I only went with another company because of some extra rebates from my old company that had a recall on the furnace, which made the cost quite a bit lower. I definitely recommend All Star Mechanical for quality products and a quality owner/installer.

Although we didn't have an emergency, Larry was able to fit us in the same day we called. He was thorough and professional, and spent time explaining our system to us (we recently purchased this house). We will have him back this fall to do a routine service on our heating and AC systems, and look forward to working with Larry again!

My house was in need of a new furnace, as the old one was nearing the end of its trusty life. Larry (All Star Mechanical) had the perfect solution for my home and he was a delight to work with. Not only is Larry down-to-earth, he is also friendly and very knowledgeable. The purpose of Larry's first visit was to obtain information about my home so that he could calculate accurately the correct furnace size needed for my home so that he could propose a solution that would optimally suit my needs. At this visit, Larry thoroughly measured all of the rooms in my house, as well as all of the windows (paying close attention to details, such as the type of windows installed) - I was VERY impressed (especially when compared to the "guestimation" bid used by another furnace company that I thought I might be interested in). The bid that Larry proposed was very reasonable and very straightforward - no hidden costs and nothing hidden in fine print - and I felt very comfortable trusting Larry to take care of my furnace needs. (He was also more than happy to address all of the questions that I had and he was easy to contact via phone and via email.) Indeed, Larry went above-and-beyond my expectations - the room that my furnace is in is quite small and the air conditioning/ducts/furnace/water heater are all in close proximity, leaving little room to work and requiring careful removal and installation of the furnace to ensure that the other units (a.c./ducts/water heater) were not disrupted. Despite the tight working quarters, Larry finished his work flawlessly and he managed to finish the removal and installation all in one day! I even felt comfortable leaving Larry to complete his work at my home while I went about my daily routine (teaching and holding office hours at the university). To top things off, Larry made sure that I was 110% satisfied with my experience - he varied the speed of the blower in the new furnace until I was satisfied with the air flow in all of the vents in my home (which was quite a task because the duct system in my house was designed such that the airflow easily causes a primary vent to have a high-pitch whistle - Larry, however, eliminated this whistling!!) He even worked with my busy schedule and made a visit to my house on a Saturday afternoon - now that's quality service! Overall, I am very pleased with the cleanly installation and fine-tuning that Larry happily offered during the entire process of replacing my old furnace. He even offers an extended service warranty, so I am happy to know that Larry is just a call away for any questions that I have and I can rely on All Star Mechanical to take care of my yearly servicing and tune-ups.

It went very well. Larry assessed the situation and fixed the broken part. Didn't take long at all and the cold air was blowing again! Hallelujah From the minute he stepped on the property, I got the feeling that Larry was professional, intelligent and a pleasant person to talk with. He seems very credible to me and in fact, he even gave us some free advice regarding future service of our mechanicals. I would hire him again and recommend him to anyone looking for an air-conditioning or heating service company.

From initial contact to the charging of the systems this past spring Larry has always acted in a very professional, friendly and courteous manner. He showed up for appointments on time. Performed the work quickly and with care. Cleaned up any mess that was created in the process. The installation was completed timely in spite of a problem with a piece of equipment. Not his fault. He was careful to explain what he was doing, was willing to listen to concerns and address them. A guy you can trust.

All-Star bid on a complicated retrofitting project for our home. While we eventually hired the installer of our existing system (North Winds) to do the work, we were extremely impressed with the way Larry went about his work. Without going into detail, Larry was consistently focused on getting the solution right rather than saying what he thought would win the contract. I understand that All-Star may be offering home energy appraisals soon. (Thermal image and other testing to let you know where you're leaking hot/cold air. Insulate/replace intelligently.) If they roll this out, I want to be Larry's first customer for the new service.

What we first noticed about Larry Kirchhoff, owner and installer, was how he conducted himself during our initial meeting. He sat us down so he could tell us about himself and his background. He showed his resume, training degrees, licenses, and insurance. He also proudly showed us photos and letters of recommendations from former clients. He wanted to make sure that we were comfortable with him as a person and as a professional. It was obvious that he is a perfectionist and takes pride in a job well done. Next Larry checked our current equipment and took measurements so he could make heat and loss calculations that would determine the right size furnace we would need. He said that the current humidifier we had was in good shape and would not need replacing. He indicated that for the 2-stage furnace to work properly we needed to have thermostats that were compatible with it, and he recommended replacing them. The following day he emailed us his proposal. We noticed that his bid included a furnace that was one size larger than a competitor?s bid. When we emailed Larry about this discrepancy, he not only emailed us, but called to explain to us why he felt his calculations supported his recommendation. It made sense to us. We decided to go with All Star Mechanical because of the level of trust we had in Larry. We liked that he was the person who worked with us from start to finish, and we were confident that if we had any concerns they would be addressed. The work was completed in 2 ? days as promised. Larry brought his assistant-in-training with him each day, and the two of them were hard-working, friendly, and professional. My husband and I felt we could leave the house while they were working, and not have any worries about it at all. Larry even told us about the 10% Angie?s List Discount, that we had been unaware of. He provided us with two copies of forms for the Consumers Energy rebate and copies of the invoice to receive the federal tax credit. He made sure we knew how to operate and program each of the thermostats before he left. The house is warm and comfortable with a more even and quieter heat than we had before. Although Larry?s bid was slightly more than a competitor?s we felt we made a great decision in choosing All Star Mechanical.

Larry gave us an estimate after he explained about his experience, how he does his measurements and why he sells the furnaces that he does. He then went through pictures of jobs that he has done. He was very professional. He emailed an estimate the very evening of the day he came to our house. When he came to install the furnace he was prompt and was actually done when he said he would be. He put down a heavy drop cloth so he wouldn't damage the floor and he swept up when he was done. It was a pleasure to have someone who actually knows his job and does it. As an added plus he's a dog lover and gave my dogs many pets while he explained how he was going to do the work. I wouldn't hesitate or call Larry for another job or to recomment him to anyone

Larry is the owner and operator of AllStar and is one of the most professional local business tradesmen that I've had the pleasure of working with. I called Larry to explore some options of heating a small bungalow that didn't have an existing heat source. Larry arrived on time (exactly) and spent a good amount of time asking questions and exploring options with me. After narrowing down a few viable solutions, Larry took precise measurements for load calculations. Afterward, Larry shared his portfolio with me which contained work history, references, and pictures of past isntalls. Within a couple of days, I received an e-mail quote (he offered to meet with me to provide the quote, but e-mail was fine for me) with the options we talked about. After selecting an option, we scheduled a date and away we went. The install process was as efficient as the proposal process. Larry was punctual, professional, and diligent. I was working on other areas of the house, so I actually spent time working around while Larry and his assistant were executing the install. Because I was around, he shared many aspects of the install process with me and I learned quite a bit of info about the furnace and system that he designed. I can say that I was actually lonely when they finished the job - they were such a great team to have around for company's sake. In conclusion, I'm very happy with the experience of All Star Mechanical. I've actually kept in touch with Larry since then as we explore options for other projects that I'm working on. Again, he returns every call and e-mail with punctuality. I anticipate that I'll keep in touch with Larry and All Star for some time to come!

Larry (All Star Mechanical) was very curious and professional. I called Larry to setup an appointment to do a load calculation on my home and he met me the same day. After his measurements he described the furnaces he carried and showed pictures of past jobs he has installed (a picture is worth a thousand words). I felt that he truly cared about quality and I felt he was honest and straightforward with me. A couple days later he emailed me the cost estimate and recommended size of furnace based on his calculations. His quote was reasonable and I also liked the quality of the furnace he installs. I setup a date for the install about a week later. He finished the installation in on time and I was very satisfied with his work. I would use All Star Mechanical again and will definitely recommend Larry to my colleagues. Overall, it was a good experience overall, a pleasure doing business with him.

The 17 old furnace in my house was replaced with a new 95% efficient furnace. Larry took the time to measure the surface area of my entire house and the size of all the windows to make sure the new furnace would be the correct size for the house. He found that the old furnace was actually over sized for the house. Larry was able to do the work the week following the week that he came out to measure the house and give me an estimate. This was greatly appreciated because the gas company found that the old furnace had cracks in the heat exchanger and should not be used. The day of the install Larry was on time and completed the work in the amount of time he said he would. He explained to me everything I needed to know about the new furnace. He also gave me the paperwork to send in the Consumers Energy to get the rebate check for the new furnace The work he did was excellent. I highly recommend him.

Larry was punctual, thorough and professional. My furnance installation appeared to me to be a bit more complicated due to the needed extra duct work. He did an excellent job of meeting this challenge. He even cleaned up some messy venting near the furnace from my hot water heater. The completed job was a work of art! He provided me with the paperwork needed for both the federal tax credit and the Consumers Energy rebate; this made this process easy to handle. His price is fair.

Larry was very cordial, professional, courteous (to a fault... which is a good thing) and responsive. I want through several iterations of questions, details, and proposal ideas. Once I was settled on my decision, Larry promptly got the work scheduled, made very acceptable deposit and payment arrangements. He also followed up with a "walk through" which was a bonus. His work was tidy, thorough, and in all aspects provided as arranged. He clearly values the customer relationship and hopes to generate after-installation services that may be required, but did not push any unnecessary services, maintenance or such. I would highly recommend this company.

Larry was very professional and knowledgeable. Showed up when he said he would, got the job done efficiently and cleaned up thoroughly. Was very responsive to phone calls and when I decided to add a humidifier after the fact he came back right away to get it done. All work looks and functions great. He also deconstructed an old rotting planter box in the backyard that needed to go to install the A/C and went beyond the scope of what he needed to do and took out the whole thing.

The reason we chose Larry and All-Star Mechanical was because when asked to give an estimate, Larry drove out to our house went over everything with me. He explained what it was, that needed to be done. Larry was very timely in returning an estimate, and the estimate was extremely fair. In some cases his competitors were three times as much for the same work (and those folks would not even come to the house). Larry provided a contract and discussed with me several options, he did not try to up sell me on anything and honestly told me what was necessary and reasonable for my house and needs. Several times before Larry was scheduled to do the work he was contracted to do I called him with questions, his response was fast and knowledgeable, and for those questions he could not answer he told me, found the answer and got back with me. At one point he even called to tell me I can receive money from Consumers Energy for the type of water heater he was installing. This was not necessary however Larry took the to time to fill me in on the details. When the date of service came Larry was on time and worked diligently until the job was complete. I felt very comfortable with Larry in my house, he was very personable, and answered any questions I had through the day. Larry also ran cloth tarps through my house to protect the carpet from his travels in and out of the house, no other contractor has ever done this! One issue did come up with the install of the new equipment into my fireplace. Larry stopped and told me the options I had, he did what I asked and actually was able to fix the problem with minimal time and no extra cost to me. The quality of work I got was excellent, and was done specifically to what the contract stated it would be. Larry even did several extra things for me at no charge because he felt that I needed those things done.
