We had our landscaping redone by United Lawnscape and Trost is the company they contract with for irrigation. It’s necessary to maintain a warranty on the new plants. They first crew was ok, maybe because the United crew was also here and they were on their best behavior. But things started going wrong quickly. Leaking along the lines and busted heads. It would take several days for a service call. Then when they were done, more problems arose with the next cycle of sprinkling. Of course, needing another visit. The attitude of the workers leaves a lot to be desired. This latest one tried blaming the performance on city water pressure, which was fine when I contacted our DPW, then said he couldn’t do everything this visit, but that the charge for today was $240! This morning my husband and I walked the zones and discovered several areas where the heads weren’t even popping up due to debris. If they were paying attention during THEIR visit, they would’ve caught this; they are supposed to be professionals after all. And when I do call the office about problems, the office staff is condescending and curt. It’ll be time to winterize in a couple of months and these guys will NEVER be called back to my home. I wish I’d checked Angie’s List at the onset. I thought that since United Lawnscape trusted them, that I could too. I know, very naive of me. Run, don’t walk, away if someone suggests Trost!

Trost installed and has provided seasonal service for our sprinkler system. This past year a valve was damaged due to them leaving it closed during winterizing. Trost refused to repair the valve despite the damage being their fault. It also took them nearly two weeks to give me an answer. This is not the way to do business with loyal customers.
Description of Work: Seasonal sprinkler maintenance. Needed valve repaired due to service issue.

I contracted with United Lawnscape to landscape my entire yard. As part of this, they sub-contracted the irrigation work to Trost Irrigation. Not only did they bury the sprinkler heads too deep, within a year several parts of the system were no longer working. When I contacted Trost, they informed me that they only give a 90 day warranty, even though that was never stated when they blew out the sprinkler system for winter or turned it on in the spring. They were going to charge me a $60 service call plus $150 per hour to fix problems that should never have happened in the first year. The lady providing customer service was extremely rude on the phone. I would never hire them again!

I wouldn't recommend Trost if my life depended on it. After moving into a new house, I had had quite a few workers come and do work while my wife was home and no one disrespected my household more than this company. Two technicians showed up. While one worked on activating the system, another walked my wife around indicating all the issues with the system. He wrote down a quote of $1,200, showed this to my wife and indicated that the office would be in touch to formally provide the quote. However, he did offer to do the work on his own time for half the price. For those of you thinking this sounds like a good idea, DON'T EVER DO THIS. With this "great deal" comes no warranty, no workmen's comp, no bonding and no liability insurance should anything go wrong. That means everything falls back on you and your homeowner's insurance. The foreman also chose to (without any authorization from my wife) install a part she did not see and then request that a check be made out for the part to cash. Interesting...two separate transactions seemed to want to take place. The activation fee was able to go on my credit card but apparently this part couldn't? That's because the technicain was trying to scam not only business away from his boss and the company he worked for, he was trying to scam money for himself by using his companies parts. After pointing out this issue to the owner, I expected some sort of negotiations for what had gone on. He told me he was going to review the paperwork submitted by his technician and "see what he could do". After many days passed and a few unreturned phone calls, I received a text message from the owner, requesting my email so he could forward the quote he said he was going to revisit. He goes on to say that his technician wrote down a price of $1,400 (which if you look above is different than what he showed my wife) so he would do the work for me for $1,200, which is actually the price the technician originally wrote down. Also, to top it off, he offered (1) free winterization, which I just found to be insulting. In the end, I would never recommend that anyone call Trost for any work.

This company installed my sprinkler system through our home builder. They claimed to offer 90 days warranty, but less than 50 days afterward, the system froze and broke. They charged me $90+ to winterize, (told me that I should've winterized earlier because things were starting to freeze,) but they said that with the use of a couple of buckets of hot water, they were able to get the winterization done. When Spring came, I discover that this company had lied to me big time, and that they weren't able to winterize because the system had already frozen up and several pieces were broken. They probably lied and never told me there was a problem because we were still under warranty. Later they said this would not be covered under warranty anyway because it was our responsibility to winterize on time (meaning the same day or within less than one month after they showed us how to work the system). While it might be true that the system broke because we didn't winterize it the same month we had it (in October), it is also true that the system could have broke because of: 1) bad job installing the sprinkler system, or 2) bad job winterizing the system. Most respectable company offer to do the first winterization for free just because they care to make sure that the system is functional at least during the warranty period. But not Trost. They simply DO NOT CARE They didn't even accept to discount their labor or to evaluate the problem free of charge. It was easiest for them to blame the customer when in fact the real reason the system broke might have been how they installed their cheap plastic pipe on the new ground that was still settling.. I feel bad writing a bad review about anyone, but in this case Trost earned it by having me pay several hundreds of dollars on a brand new sprinkler system that they messed up. Trost should not offer 90 days warranty starting in October, because according to them, if the temperature drops in October then it is the customer's fault and not theirs. Maybe it would serve them better to offer a warranty that expires mid October. That way customers would know that their warranty might be valid for only a week, or even only a day!
