Replaced my non-working furnace on Christmas Eve morning.

We have a contract with them so they come out twice a year for preventative maintenance. They are family owned. We've used the for about 4 or 5 years.

We hired Zilka because I had previously spoken with Jeremy about a previous problem I ended hiring Otto for because Zilka did not respond 1st. Jeremy was really nice on the phone and ended up being exactly right about the problem we were having. He also gave me a competitive price. So, the next time we had a Boiler Issue (subject of this review), we hired Zilka. Our boiler was working but the house would not heat up above 65. We had a 3:30pm appointment. I asked to be contacted if anything earlier showed up. With no notice, the technician showed up at noon. After the technician completed examining our home and the boiler, he apparently told my wife that we just don't know what a Michigan winter feels like (although we have both lived in Michigan for over 30 years). He also insisted on calling me at work to explain the problem to me and make me pay by credit card over the phone. I have no idea why he wouldn't tell my wife the problem or let her pay. Even though he was unwilling to deal with my wife, he still stayed in the home while talking to me, instead of finishing the conversation at his office, so that my wife could make it to work on-time. The technician said that we needed the element cleaned and we needed additional panels in our kitchen, neither of which could be done in the winter and neither of which he had any idea what the cost would be. He ended up simply turning up the water temperature. Now, the heat is and quot;fineand quot;. I was never contacted by the Zilka and quot;sales department,and quot; although the technician said he would have them contact me. I even left a message with the answering service and have yet to receive a response. I can get over the isolated awkward customer service experience, but I don't really feel as thought my business is wanted. Maybe it is not. Another heating and cooling specialist just told us that our problem would be solved by removing all of the air from our boiler system. I dare say that the Zilka technician didn't know anything about boilers.

lCalled company for diagnosis as boiler was leaking. Zilka technician diagnosed the boiler was leaking from the corner of back of one of the sections. Recommended replacement. Requested estimate for replacement. Also obtained estimates from two other companies. William from Zilka came out checked out the boiler and measured every radiator in the house. He determined the size of the new boiler replacement (same size as old) William is well suited to his position as a representative of his company. He is more of a good will ambassador and went above and beyond the role one would expect. He was very supportive and sensitive to the needs of the family. Ron and Nick replaced the Weil McLain 300,00 BTU steam boiler, plus 25-plus feet of leaking return steam piping. They also replaced leaking pipe at a junction leading through the wall into garage and up to second floor bedroom. Replaced cracked valve on garage radiator. Both men were friendly and professional. They cleared their own area to access the pipes in the garage. They reinforced the basement stairs prior to carrying the boiler down. At one point there were several trucks in the driveway for manpower before they decided to carry the cast iron boiler down in sections due to the weight, The boiler installation was a little different from the previous. Ron indicated this will alleviate the possibility of the same type of failure of the boiler as the leaking boiler was only 18 years old. Ron was also helpful in teaching me more about the maintenance of the boiler and the radiators. Ron and Nick protected the floor and stairs and cleaned up and removed all debris All in all an excellent job!

This company has been terrific. The price was were it should be and the quality was great. We were happy with the work they have done for us.

I was very disappointed with Zilka-Oakland. They had come very highly recommended. I was not impressed with the attitude of the technician Zilka sent to my home. Scott was the technician sent to preform the furnace inspection and cleaning. He tried to tell me that I needed to replace my furnace. The furnace I have now is not even 10 years old!! He said the motor was leaking oil and and should not be doing that. I had another company come out this year and they said the furnace was in superior condition. He did not even bother to clean the dust out of the cold air return.

They do good work and I really am happy for them. They have good prices and do a good job. I really like working with them and they are very prompt and kind.

THEY HAVE BEEN ESTABLISHED FOR A LONG TIME. THEY ARE WORTH EVERY PENNY THAT THEY CHARGE. THEY DO A VERY GOOD JOB. I HAVE USED THEM MANY TIMES IN THE PAST. THEY ALWAYS CLEAN THINGS UP WHEN THEY ARE DONE.
