I recently bought a new home. The entire main floor is dark stained birch hardwood flooring. The previous owners had a couple of large dogs that had scratched up the floors pretty badly. Greg and his crew at Harbor Floors installed the flooring during the previous renovations to the home. The previous owner had already gotten an estimate to have the floors refinished. I called Greg the day after we closed on the house. We wanted the floors redone before we moved a single piece of furniture in, knowing how much dust can be kicked up, no matter how careful you are. He was able to start the following Tuesday. I was given an estimate of 10 working days to complete the job. The hardwood flooring covers roughly 3000 sq ft. The first all the interior doors and all the trim was removed. I wanted to keep the same trim. I was surprised how much attention they put into just removing it. Each piece was labeled so that it would be put back in the correct order. The floors were sanded down to natural. It was substantially less dusty than I thought it would be. When it came time to stain, they put down a few different test colors side by side to make sure I got exactly what I was looking for. After the time it took for the sealer to dry, they reinstalled the doors and put the trim back in place. I forgot to mention that they removed a toilet and vanity in the bathroom as well. The whole project took about a week longer than anticipated, though that was my fault. I wanted them to refinish the floors in 2 separate sections. I had nothing but a wonderful experience with Harbor Floors. Any time I had a question or concern, it was answered within 24hrs if Greg wasn't immediately available. The crew was professional and pleasant to deal with.

My husband signed a contract with Harbor Floors. We went to the flooring manufacturer and picked out flooring. This is a relatively small condo and we were living in a bedroom and bathroom on the second floor and the contractor knew this. The demo guys arrived and began ripping stuff up on the first floor. I went to work and my husband stayed home. They did not erect any plastic or tarps of any kind to section off the living quarters from the work space. I arrived home to find everything, right down to toothbrushes, bedding, the dog, everything, covered in thick dust, ground up grout, etc. The next morning I went to the store to ask the owner to talk to his workers about being more careful and have them clean up the mess. I no sooner sat down than he attacked me verbally, yelling so loudly that his workers came out from the back of the store. He advanced on me, shouting and gesturing wildly. I made my way to the door where the secretary was standing. She agreed that I had not raised my voice or been out of line in any way. She let me know that this behavior by her employer was not unusual and I got in my car, all the while listening to him yell that we signed a ___________ contract, he was entitled to his profit no matter what, I didn't know___________ , he was going t call his attorney, we would be sorry...... I called the police as I felt seriously threatened and they advised me to report him to the Better Business Bureau and the state. I called an attorney. The store owner (Greg) held us up for months and our legal bills continued to mount. His attorney and our attorney agreed that Greg was, to put it simply, "Not a nice person." We had to settle with him to make him go away, something we found out he has done in the past. The floor ended up costing us almost $3000 more than it shoud have. A number of people have since told us that this person is disreputable.
