This family is a bunch of crooks! They are incompetent and have no business doing any work in peoples home. I have had nothing but problems with them since day one. I have an air conditioning unit they installed that wouldn’t cool my house below 76 degrees. When I confronted them about this they told me I need a bigger unit which I forked over another $600 for a 3 ton unit. They hooked this unit up outside and said they would come back in the spring to get it running. After calling them for a week with no answer I finally called from a different number and Mike answers right away only to tell me he has gone out of business which I believe is a lie. As others have stated his wife/secretary is one of the rudest people you’ll ever talk too. This is a warning to everyone reading this.....DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! YOU WILL GET SCREWED LIKE I DID AND SO MANY OTHERS! Their ratings everywhere you look are awful and the good ones I’m sure are made up by them and their friends. BUYER BEWARE!!!

Upon meeting Mike Schwartz and his family they seemed nice. I gave a deposit for the boat in order for my husband and I to try to get a boat contractor to do an inspection on the boat at their home. Could not find one to come out therefore wanted to have my deposit returned. We had a written contract regarding the deposit. It literally took months to receive it back. Mike's wife, Marla, made it impossible to try and arrange to meet me at her home to refund the money. She was rude on the phone saying that I was going to have to do this "Her Way" I asked if Mike could meet me at a job around Kalamazoo and she said no. I asked if they could mail me a check and the answer was "NO" because they run everything through their business and they didn't have any personal checks. The deposit was cash that we gave them for their boat. I'm sure as soon as this company complete's their work they expect to be paid. They do not play ball the same when supposed to return your money. I have been a Realtor for nearly 27 years in West Michigan and have not had this type of experience with a contractor. It's a shame this had to happen. From my initial meeting with Mike, I thought I would be able to recommend his company to others. But I would definitely not due to having to speak with their customer service.
Description of Work: I had a personal connection with this company for a potential purchase of a family owned boat which I did not purchase.

Apparently I looked at the wrong sites when looking for reviews for Schwartz'. Terrible customer service, unsatisfactory work, and the problems aren't even fixed. Mike and his crew have been out to my house multiple times through our home warranty to fix a small section of leaking pool pipe. Getting coordination from both companies was a pain, but then he had had to come out over and over to refix issues that he kept putting off or didn't fix correctly the first time. If you have to call their office I hope you don't have to talk to his bitchy wife secretary. She told me they won't come out for free to look at a leaking pipe he tried to fix twice already, saying their trucks don't run on love, only gas. I asked why they would not stand behind their products and workmanship and she hung up on me after talking over me loudly. Mike and his crew were polite and friendly but that doesn't fix leaking pipes. I'll find someone else to fix the ongoing problems the correct way with better customer service.

Description of Work: Schwartz installed our furnace and has "serviced" it ever since. NO MORE. Very grateful they stood us up twice in a row -- even though we had no heat -- (didn't enjoy the Mrs. on the phone at all while trying to work out the service issue) because METZGER fixed the problems Schwartz had caused by faulty service and sheer incompetence: humidifier installed on the wrong side, NEVER changed humidifier filter with annual check, water ran into electrics -- repairing all of that was nearly $700.

Our warranty contacted Schwartz, who then contacted us to schedule an appointment to check why our air conditioning was not working. We scheduled the appointment for June 13 from 1 to 3. At 3 p.m., no one had come or contacted me, so I decided to call their office. The woman who answered the phone was rude, said their first appointment had gone over and they were running late. I said I would appreciate a call to let me know when they were coming, but she said that if they called they would be even more delayed and that they would come when they were done. Consequently, I was expecting NO call. Based on what she said, I was expecting that they would come straight here from the previous job and not call me to inform me they were on their way. My cell phone never rang, but I got a voicemail from them at 3:50 p.m. Because I wasn't expecting calls, I only saw the voicemail at 4:30. I could barely understand the voicemail due to bad reception when they called so I called the office again. The woman was nothing but rude. She said their working day was over and they couldn't come anymore. She said we needed to schedule another appointment (they were backed up for two weeks). I said that they were late and that it wasn't my fault that they were late. I tried to explain that my phone didn't ring and went straight to voicemail, and she kept yelling and didn't let me explain what had happened. She assumed I was saying that they never called because she was NOT listening and she was talking over me. If she were listening, she would have understood that the call went straight to voicemail and that is why I said the phone never rang. She said that I need to answer the phone in order for them to come -- when before she said they were too busy to call and calling would further delay their appointments. I continued to try to explain what had happened, but she continued to yell at me, so when I realized I could not speak to the woman because she was yelling, not listening, or trying in any way to resolve the situation, I finally decided to hang up on her and ask my warranty to transfer services to another company. The company never did any work on my air conditioning, so I cannot speak to how professional or good the actual HVAC guys at Schwartz are. I can, however, speak to how rude and unprofessional the woman who answered the phone was. When someone is late to an appointment, you expect them to let you know that they are running late because it is the respectable thing to do, especially when you are running a business. Everyone else I have ever worked with had the courtesy to call and inform me that they were late. When someone is late for an appointment and does NOT call you to let you know, you expect them to apologize when you contact them. Instead, the woman was extremely rude both times I called.

I called for service with a home warrenty company over a weekend, and they set Schwartz's as my provider by that Sunday evening. Talked to Marla on a Monday afternoon. She told me (rather rudely, I might say) that they would be out Tuesday morning between 9-11 am to address some major leaks that had destroyed the ceiling in our downstairs bathroom. Another lady (Hailey?) called Tuesday morning to set up a time to come out later in the week. I told her that Marla had set the time for that morning, and I was told that a mistake must have been made as Thursday was the ony time they could make it out. I explained that the repair (leaking toilets) had to be made during the current week as I was on spring break. She said that would be no problem, so we set the Thursday morning appointment. Thursday morning came, and imagine my surprise when I was told that the person was only an estimator and the repair would have to be scheduled for later. I told him my same problem about needing it done and he said he would call the warrenty company right away for approval, check their schedule to see if it could happen, and either call me back with a repair time or swap it out to another company to get it done, within the next couple of hours. No call back, no calls made to the warrenty company until mid morning on Friday. To make matters worse, they lied to the warrenty company about access to the repair (said they had to tear out a tile wall even though there was direct access through the ceiling we had to tear down). This made four times, in my opinion, they did not tell the truth to either myself or the warrenty company: First, will send someone out on Tuesday; second, will send out a tech on Thursday to do the repair; third, will call back with actual repair time or another company in about three hours on Thursday; and fourth, having to tear out a tile wall. My father taught me at a young age to say what you will, but do what you say. I can not recommend any company who will not stand by their word or be truthful to their customers. Maybe they just didn't want to do the job because of pre-set warrenty company prices, or had other, more lucrative jobs to handle. Whatever the reason, I don't think this excuses them for being so unprofessional. A simple "I'm sorry, we don't want to do your job" would have been much appreciated so that the warrenty company could have switched providers so that we could have had the repair done within the timeframe we had available. Poorly handled....very poorly handled indeed.

they arrived within 3 hours of the call. On the job with two staff for nearly 90 minutes, didn't try to upsell, just fixed the issue, and suggested options for down the road in terms of new energy efficient technology. Unit hadn't been serviced since we moved in 9 years ago. Very thorough and reasonable. This company installed our new furnace several years ago and we have had no trouble. Family owned, local, recommended.

The woman who manages their office was very rude and unprofessional. She would not listen to my description of the problem. She kept interrupting me and repeating a memorized mantra. In the end she told me that I needed to get someone else to do the work. (The caveat is that I needed to get someone else because she was not willing to listen and schedule the repair that I needed.)

He was punctual, prompt, knowledgeable and reasonably priced. He took the time to sit down and work out the best system for all of our needs including cost. He installed the furnace and everything is working perfectly. With the estimated other work, he was fair in assessment and price. He even told us when something we wanted done could be done more efficiently, economically or just simply didn't need to be done at all.

My home came with a warranty through American Home Shield, which I am very grateful for since Labor Day weekend my air conditioning unit stopped working. I called American Home Shield the Tuesday after Labor Day, and they referred us to use Schwartz Heating and Cooling. The woman in their office called me that same day to tell me that they could hopefully get me on Thursday, since both of their vans were broken down, she couldn't say for sure. She told me that if I don't hear from her, they will be there as scheduled. On Thursday, right on time, 2 young men showed up to look at my air conditioner. They looked at my air conditioner and told me that the compressor went on it, and that there were going to try to get the warranty company to get me a new unit. That sounded wonderful to me. Three business days later, the owner called me and told me that my Lenox air conditioner had a heat pump, and if i wanted to keep the heat pump that I would not get a new unit. They would probably just fix the compressor. He told me the decision was mine, but heat pumps were old technology and if I had furnace I didn't really need it. I later learned from a coworker that a heat pump is great to have just in case something happens with the furnace. He also told me that the heat pump in my AC helps my furnace be more efficient. I understand that this my fault since I did not try to educate myself before giving him an answer. At this point, it had been 90 here for a few days, and I was just desperate to have my AC back. About a week later, the lady in the office (her name is Marta or Martha I think) left a message saying that my unit was in. I called back shortly after and she said they could do it the next day at 11. I said GREAT, but then the next day she called to set up the appointment. She thought that she was speaking to someone else the day before. The installation is where the big problems. First off, as mentioned above my old AC unit was Lenox, which from what I understand is a premium brand of ACs. He brought me a Payne which the installer described as "builders grade". This was annoying. He said that the compressor was the same in this unit as it was in the Lenox, so it really wasn't a big deal...blah blah blah. The rest of the install went fine. AFTER THE INSTALL IS WHERE THE BIG PROBLEMS OCCURRED. IF YOU WANT TO SKIP PASS MY ANNOYANCES START READING HERE. After they left, I went up to my MBR and tried to turn on the lights....no power. I checked the breaker box, even tripped everything (just in case), and still no power. I called Schwartz's office, and whatever her name is answered. I told her that the power worked before they go there and now i didn't. She told me she had to check with Mike to see what could have happened, and she would get back to me, but there was no way she was sending anyone over that night since she would have to pay OT. I don't care if you have to pay OT, I want my POWER BACK! She called me back shortly after, said it was no way it was there fault. They only dealt with low voltage and my MBR power would high voltage. I told her that I would call an electrician and if he said it was their fault, I would send them his bill. Sounds fair, right? SHE HUNG UP ON ME! Listen, I understand that I can be demanding, but I most definitely wasn't yelling. I felt like my solution was fair, she didn't. She called me back shortly after and asked "You have American Home Shield, right?" I responded "Did you hang up on me?" She said, "Yeah, I wasn't going to sit there and listen to you yell at me." I responded by telling her I wasn't yelling at her. She said, "Shut up and listen to me." I was done with her. I hung up on her. I don't care if I was yelling at her, she works in a service based industry, she should know how to handle customers better. If I were to ever hang up on a customer, I would be fired. Ultimately, it was there fault. My house is wired for a generator (but does not currently have one). When they were pulling in wires, they flipped a switch on the control box for the generator. I could have looked over all of this if whatever her name is wouldn't have hung up on me and dealt with the situation like a professional. But she failed miserably. I would never ever call Schwartz again.

Furnace and A/C work. However, we were not satisfied with the following: Much of the work was not performed by the contractor, but by his teenage son, who sometimes was accompanied by another teenager, without the presence of the father/contractor for much of the work they did. I marked that "services were performed by the provider" (see above), but we were never informed that the person we contracted was going to be substituted by his teenage son at all. It was mostly the work performed by the teenager that was terribly bad. When installing the ventilation piping, they (i.e. the teenagers) destroyed the concrete of our chimney and the masonry in the facade. Instead of cutting a circular hole in the concrete and the stone walls, the result was a big hole much bigger than the diameter of the pipes that appeared to have been made with a sledge hammer. When asked to fix it, they did an even worse job of covering it with a metal sheet and some caulk. No insulation was applied in the big gaps left in the outside wall. We had to have those problem areas addressed after they left the house. Another sign of their sloppiness was the indelible fingerprint marks made with pipe sealant which were left all over the new duct work. I tried to clean/remove them with different products, but I was not able to. The fingerprints will be there as a testament of their untidiness. Schwartz's also removed my new and expensive thermostat and installed a generic, cheaper one and kept mine without asking me for permission. When I requested that my own thermostat be reinstalled, they (i.e. the teenagers) were puzzled. Moreover, when we discussed the different types of furnace filters, we were mislead into believing they were installing a permanent particulate filtration, when in fact they installed a removable pleated filter system. Even though the latter save us money, the difference between both systems of filtration should have been made amply clear. Finally, even though the agreement was that they include a furnace humidifier, they had to be talked into doing it. It still, to this day, does not appear to work properly, as moisture accumulates on the registers even when the filter is turned off. After all these issues, we simply cannot recommend this business to anyone.

They are prompt, courteous and explain everything well. There is no doubt that I will call again for routine cleaning or maintenance. It gives peace of mind that there are people out there that you can trust and are also there when you need help.
Description of Work: This was the third time that SCHWARTZ HEATING & COOLING helped out. The first time to replace the capacitor on the central A/C unit, the second to help replace a part on the hot water heater and this third time to clean the furnace. They also checked to make sure that everything was working correctly. I am grateful for the time and attention paid to the furnace. We called Schwartz on a Saturday evening in the middle of the winter when our furnace stopped working. Mike came out right away. He quickly identified problem and provided us a temporary fix. The furnace was tripping off (high delimiter) due to the fact that it was too big for the house. He cut some extra venting in the basement to help temporarily correct the problem. He was very knowledgeable, friendly and only charged us $90 for the service call. A year later we had them replace our furnace with a 2-stage 95% efficient Rheem for $3000. Mike again provided knowledgable and exceptional customer service. They completed the installation quickly. After installed Mike came over to inspect the installation and provided a thorough walk though of the furnace and it's features. He also made sure it was "dialed in" just right. Years later and the furnace is performing flawlessly. Our only concern in the process was that had a media filter placed on the furnace and had a hard time finding replacement filters. I called their office a couple times without any luck before I finally found them on Amazon. Mike provided sound, reasonable knowledgeable service/advice. He was honest and his focus was on helping us fix our issues and not on selling us something we didn't need. I would recommend anyone to call Mike for service or a quote that will beat most any competitor. We just recently got a quote from Mike that was 20% less then others.

We bought a house warranty when we bought the house, and when we had a problem with the a/c unit, Schwartz were the second contractors the warranty company sent out (after the first contractors failed to diagnose the problem). They took the time to find the real problem, and the people that came to the house were very nice and answered any questions. However, their customer service at the office was lacking. We had some problems getting the warranty company to pay for the services needed (even though it was in the contract). Schwartz refused to do anything at all to help. I was told several times, "The warranty company is our customer, not you." I did get the warranty company to pay for the needed repairs, but I chose to have another company do them.

We called him after hours and he showed up very quickly. He repaired the problem and only charged us day rates because we had only been in the house for three days. Two weeks later we had another problem with the furnace and he came out after hours again. He showed up, figured out what the problem was, found a way to remedy it, and he didn't charge us anything. He simply asked us to recommend him to other people in the area. I would highly recommend them for any heating and cooling issue that you have.

Friendly punctual service and a pleasure to deal with. They corrected my problem in a timely manner. I would not hesitate to contact them again.
Description of Work: I used Mr. Schwartz's services as to look at my A/C unit through my home warranty as it did not seem to be cooling properly. Mr. Schwartz showed up at the appointed time and he and his coworker were very pleasant and spent time explaining exactly what he was doing and also gave me some helpful tips regarding the system. He found that the previous owners of the house had not changed the filter and showed me whee it was located and the type required. They also found that the 13 year old system was indeed not cooling properly and added coolant which allowed the proper air temp/cooling differential.
