Plumbing issue during the week became an urgent need on a Sunday. I called Zimmerman, who answered the phone right away. They referred me to their partner, Roto-Rooter, since my issue sounded like a clogged pipe. Zimmerman called me when they notified a technician and when that person was on their way. The technician, Steven, arrived in less than an hour and was AWESOME. Steven had excellent customer service, was professional, polite, knowledgeable and reassured me that my issue would be identified and solved rapidly, which immediately decreased my anxiety level, since I live alone and had never dealt with this before. He listened to my issues, quickly identified that a pipe was clogged and where the clog was, and in less than 1/2 hr. he had opened the system up. He answered all my questions, teaching me what to watch for, how the system works. He worked efficiently and didn't leave until he was sure that all was working properly. He took special care to keep everything clean, and disinfected as he finished. This was the 1st time I have needed such a service and I would not hesitate to call Zimmerman or Roto-Rooter the next time an issue arises. The whole experience was a positive one from the time I 1st called, which calmed me down during this crisis. Thank you.

The dispatcher told me the tech would call with an estimate once he diagnosed the issue, and the range for an hour service call is $195-300 depending on what they find. A friend let the tech in my house. He was almost 2 hours past promised arrival time. He was at my house less than 15 minutes, did NOT call me. I was furious to discover a bill for $195!! Apparently their MINIMUM service call. What a rip off! No one called me, ever. And the nut(s) he "adjusted" still had a slight leak - until I called someone else to fix it. Never use Roto-Rooter again.

Description of Work: Water was backing up into our house and we were not sure where it was coming from. Roto-Rooter was called Friday am and they said they could have a tech on site that afternoon. The tech arrived on time and was very friendly. All the steps of the process were explained and the clog was found. Cleaning out the drain was a little more difficult than expected so the high end of the quote was used, but we appreciated that they stuck to the quote and did a great job on a drain that had never been cleaned.

They provided an inspection. This went really well. The septic tank was collapsing. They provided a new septic tank. The representative took the time to explain the situation to me and answer my questions. After the septic tank was replaced, the dirt was smoothed over and it looked very good.

When I called to set the appointment, the lady was very professional and accommodating with the date/time I requested. She asked what the problem was and gave me an approximate idea of the cost, assuming that the plumber did not find anything different and had no issues. The plumber arrived early to the neighborhood, but did not find the house easily; I waved him down to my driveway. He was a very nice young man, but hard to understand at times. He listened attentively as I explained the problems and he started work right away. He cleaned out the kitchen drain pipe rather quickly and easily. He moved to the bathroom sink and after a bit we realized he was having issues with something. He ended up leaving to go back to the shop and came back (in about 20 minutes) with an associate. He said that he had had problems with something but it was his fault and wouldn't be any charge to me. I never exactly found out what it was, but after the other associate arrived, things were fixed quickly and the bathroom sink drain was cleared and working. He went out to his van to write up the invoice and came back in and showed me the cost of $235. I asked him about the toilet and he said he would go ahead and work on it then. He checked it, snaked it and cleared it as well. There was no additional cost for the toilet. Also, they did a pretty good job cleaning up after themselves, especially considering how messy snaking drains can be. It has been a couple of weeks and everything is draining very well! Very pleased with the service.

We called Roto Rooter because we were having problems with the toilet flushing, and were worried that our outside drain might be plugged up. A plumber came when he was supposed to, asked if the toilet was the only thing we were having problems with, to which we said, yes. He determined that it was probably just the toilet and not the outside line, something it seems he could have told us on the phone before he came. He checked the toilet, said there were lime deposits keeping the water from filling the bowl, and also that the insides of the tank were old and should be replaced, which he proceeded to do. (We could have done this ourselves and saved a lot of money) He finished his work, the toilet seemed to be working OK. We paid him $285.77, which could not be paid with a check, had to be paid with a credit or debit card. Later, my husband noticed that the water continued leaking out into the bowl instead of staying in the tank, and upon checking the parts that were put in, felt that the wrong size parts were used. He called Roto Rooter, and was told that those were the correct parts. My husband had to adjust the flapper? to make the water stop running, so you now have to hold the handle down the get enough water to flush the toilet. (our new reality) Now, in addition to that, (pardon the word here) but poop won't go down 95% of the time without plunging. So, I'm asking myself why we paid almost $300.00 to fix the toilet, when we could have bought a new one for that amount of money. He sent us a paid invoice, which added that there was "no guarantee". Why wouldn't you guarantee your work??? Not happy--

This summer, I had two basement floor drains rodded out by Roto Rooter. Ever since, I had a bad sewer gas smell coming from my basement. That is because the guy who came out damaged BOTH clean out plugs. Ok, so mistakes happen but, then to conceal his mistake, he turned the damaged part of the plug towards the floor so it was difficult to see. Before leaving, he insisted that I might have a smell because the drain was so clean! Ok, it turned out that I was constantly adding water to fill the P-trap until it simply got so horrible that I called another plumbing service. The new guy found the problem immediately and, within less than an hour, fixed the matter. Problem solved, professionally. PLEASE AVOID THIS SERVICE. I PAID THE 200 to GET MY DRAINS CLEANED ONLY TO HAVE DAMAGE DONE TO THE CAPS THAT, HAD HE BEEN HONEST WOULD HAVE SOLVED THE PROBLEM STRAIGHT OFF. SHAME ON ME. I HAD THEM OUT ONCE BEFORE AND THE TECH TOLD ME THEN THAT THEY CHAT UP THE CLIENTS BECAUSE THEY CHARGE BY THE QUARTER OF AN HOUR. BUYER BEWARE.

I had a problem with the toilet requiring two flushes to clear. I suspected there may be a difficulty with roots blocking flow as this has been the case in the past. I had used Roto-Rooter before and when I checked Angie's List , I saw that their ratings were essentially satisfactory and decided to try them again. The person who scheduled the same day appointment was very pleasant and the technician,Frank, was a steady, efficient worker who accomplished the root removal in a timely manner. Unfortunately that did not solve the toilet flushing problem. He next set about determining how to correct it. It turned out the toilet needed a number of parts replaced to function properly (fill valve, wax ring, flex line, floor bolts and caps) which he effectively accomplished. I thought the price charged was fair for the work performed.

AWFUL - BEWARE! Unless you are certain you have a drain matter ---- be forewarned! I have problem with water pressure and just bought my house. I thought maybe the drains were clogged. The young man came on time, looked around-- changed the innards of two toilets and tried cleaning the sink faucet with a paper clip. The entire time he was super chatty. As it turns out, the longer they stay -- the more they charge! They charge in 15 minute increments and are told to stay busy! Essentially, the house is just old and hence the water pressure issue. Over $200 later -- I did not get anything I could not have done myself for $20 and a trip to Lowes or True Value!

They came the next day, and rooted all the way to the street. It was a tree root issue. They were kind, professional, cleaned up after themselves and yes, I'd call them again. They let us know in time it may need to be done again. However, it's been over two years and all is still well! :)

We had water in out walkout basement, backing up in the laundry room drains. I tried snaking the main waste line with a small and quot;drilland quot; type snake, to no avail. Called Rotor Rooter. The operator said the bill would be and quot;200 to 300and quot; dollars, snd that I could be next. I agreed to those terms. The technican was supposed to call me pior to coming over, but he didn't. He showed up about three hours after the call. He seemed a pleasant enough guy. He opted to pull the stool in the basement as he said that gave him more room to work, as the laundry room - where the cleanout was - was very cluttered. He used his big RotoRooter machine, and pretty much cleared the drain, getting out paper towels, Lysol wipes, and some cloth. Hhe did that pretty efficiently, and seemed to know what he was talking about. Afterward he cleaned up, at least as far as he found it. I was satisfied with the service. The bill was to be 2 to 3 hundred dollars, and surpise! It was 300. I thought the job should have been amoung the easier to do, and pulling up the toilet was his suggestion, not mine. I expect the whole operation was about two hours. So I was not pleased with the invoice he wrote up, but paid it nonetheless.

After the sewer backed-up, I caller Roto Rooter for assistance. The person I tales to was professional, listened well and helpful. She provided a time window when I could expect a technician to arrive. Later, within the window, she called and advised me that the technician was on his way. He arrived within the time frame provided. The technician was very professional. After listening to my description of the problem, he quickly focused in to the problem area an went about his business correcting it. He explained what he was going to do and the expected results. After the problem was fixed, he explained what he problem had been and how it had been repaired. He went on to go over possible future problems and steps that can be taken to mitigate them.Over all I was very pleased with the service and outcome.

We were experiencing a slow draining tub in the children's bathroom and during my drain clearing and investigation I noticed that if the water in the sink was ran after using the tub/shower, water would back up into the tub. At that point I decided to call in Roto-Rooter due to the fact that I had a couple go arounds with renting drain snakes and figured it would be more expedient and cost effective to just have a company come out and perform the job. The technician arrived at 0900 hours and I showed him the bathroom and tub in question he advised that the trap off of the tub might be filled with hair and debris and would have to be opened to be properly cleaned due to how ours is configured (older home). He cleaned the trap then pressure vacuumed the line out and then tested the drain, it continued to back up with water. I advised him that I believed the clog had to be further down in the line as one could just about finish a shower before the water starts to back up. Therefore, the blockage has to be further away not just at the drain trap. After about another 15 minutes of him testing and re-vac of the drain, he concluded that my theory may be correct and went to the van to retrieve his small drain snake (a note on using these in older homes later)*. He started in the bath drain with the snake and worked the line for a good 30 plus minutes. During this time I went into the basement to audibly try to follow the snakes progress through the pipe. The tech was also calculating how far he was getting by monitoring how much line he'd used. After the 30 plus minutes he decided to try the line and again, water backed up. At that, he suggested that he go into the main from the toilet and use his larger water snake and take the line all the way to the street. Mind you they also charge per each 15 minutes so I'm already starting to cringe but the job had to be done due to water leakage under this particular bathroom into the basement. So I allowed him to proceed. The tech removed the toilet and began using the larger snake and the root routing head (as he believed roots may have grown through the main pipe). So I go back into the basement to follow the snake along the main pipe and fortunately I did. As the pipe goes along the basement ceiling it goes through a utility room and I opened the door to the room and continued to monitor the progress of the snake. The snake followed the pipe and successfully navigates the turn the pipe takes from overhead to the right along the back wall of the basement. At about 15 inches past the turn in the pipe (as I'm standing right in front of it mind you) the snake head breaks through the bottom of the cast iron pipe sending sewage water cascading down onto a wooden shelving unit directly below the pipe!I say I was fortunate to be right there when it happened for two reasons, the first was the fact that my favorite shot gun was sitting right below the break in the pipe and I grabbed it before it could be soiled. Secondly, I was able to run and stop the Tech from drilling any further. In the midst of the still cascading sewage water the Tech came down and looked at the breakthrough and advised that there was no way he could have known the pipe would break, I spoke with the local manager who politely explained that they don't have the ability to discern whether or not a cast iron pipe would or would not break during the snaking process. Ok, fine I guess I could see that so he went on to advise that they would send out one of their plumbers (guys/ladies with a little more expertise than the regular techs they send out) to repair the pipe. The first tech advised that since he could do no additional work until the plumber arrives he would and quot;stop the clockand quot; on my service call, which I appreciate. After about another 40-50 minutes the plumber arrives and begins to evaluate the job. After advising me he could repair by cutting the section with the break out and repairing with PVC and two couplings I asked for an estimate on this and he advised that it could be an additional $100 on top of what the original servicing tech would bill. He proceeds with the repair and this takes approximately 40 minutes. The original tech begins to clean the utility room and after about 30 minutes of vacuuming, I decided to stop the bleeding as there was still a good hour plus of cleaning necessary and I wanted to stop the bleeding as I knew that clock was still ticking. In the end I still ended up cleaning this room and demo'ing the entire shelving unit as it was made of wood and was soaked with sewage. It actually took me 6.5 hours to demo, clean and sanitize this spill area. Total bill was $486.19. Had to be done due to the unexpected break in the line, but here are a couple lessons I've learned especially if you have a home with cast iron main lines. 1. Never let anyone run a powered snake through your lines without having the condition of your mains thoroughly evaluated. They do have cameras that they could send down plus do an external evaluation prior to running the snake. 2. Before moving to a powered snake, I would suggest asking them to use the pressure water machine for clearing lines. 3. If you should be unfortunate enough to experience a break like mine, just bite the bullet and prepare to do the cleanup yourself. You will save hundreds of dollars. Actually, any cleanup at all I would tell them I'll handle myself, just do the job and go, because those minutes add up big time and in these economic times every dollar counts. Overall, the technicians and folks I spoke with on the phone were all very professional and I would use again unless I found someone with same service levels and more reasonable pricing.
