I used them several times last year. We have not received the bill for the new install yet but in the past, their bills have always been pretty reasonable, so I am not terribly concerned about that. My experience with them has been very good. They are very friendly and professional. They get the job done. We have fairly unique and an older house, with a crawl space but they just go in there and do it. They show up and they look like they are here to work. They pick up after themselves, so that is professional for me. My eighty-four year old mother lives with me so when I called them and said we have no heat, they really made an effort to come out here and get the heat started right away, because they knew we had an elderly person in the house. They wanted her to be comfortable, so that was really nice.
Description of Work: I last used Kalamazoo Heating & Appliance to get an air-conditioning unit installed.

They removed the old furnace and installed the new one. They convinced me that venting it to the front of the house (where the vents stood out like a sore thumb and spewed steam all winter long) was the only way it could be done and after some discussion, I believed them. Another contractor visited some time later and noticed that they failed to install a condensate line with a pvc pipe that extended down. When I called them, they promptly came out and installed it. About six months ago, I noticed a four-inch-wide strip of asbestos that encircled the ductwork just above the heat exchanger. I called them and they sent someone to help me remove the asbestos and cover the gap with sheet metal. He drilled the sheet metal on the ductwork with self-tapping screws. When they came for that, I asked them again about moving those ugly, white pvc pipes sticking out in front of the house that blew steam all winter. It looked ridiculous. I tried myself to figure out a way it could be done, but everytime I suggested something they kept saying venting to the front of the house was the only way that would work. Other people commented over time about those pipes sticking out like sore thumbs. Then, a man who helped me install a deck, noticed it and said there's got to be a better way. He gave me the name of Jeff Robinson who runs Twin City Heating and Air Conditioning in Plainwell, MI. I called him also because my air conditioner wasn't working when I first turned it on this spring. He and his son came out and first found that there was no freon in the AC. It didn't take them long to find the source of the leak. It was a hole from one of the self-tapping screws that the guy from Kalamazoo Heating had made when he screwed the metal panels into the ductwork. The screw tapped into the line causing the leak that drained all the freon from the system. Jeff repaired the leak, recharged the system with freon and told me how he could vent the furnace with pvc pipe extending to the top of the chimney. He completed the project with a total charge for the AC and the venting improvement of $479. Those ugly pipes are gone and I'm glad I got tired of dealing with Kalamazoo Heating. I finally found a company that knew enough and cared enough to do it right. Then on top of it all, Jeff Robinson said that a 90 BTU furnace was just barely adequate for my 2700-square-foot house. He also said they didn't do a very good job of reconfiguring the old ductwork into the new furnace hook-up. Kalamazoo Heating knew I went with them in good faith that I would receive an excellent product, adequate to the size of the house and with the best workmanship. That did not happen.
Description of Work: I needed to replace my old furnace. They installed a G61MP-48C-090 Lennox 2 stage 94.1 AFUE Gas Furnace including venting and removing the old furnace. Also installed high-effiency air filter for $125. This was higher than the other estimates I had and I made the mistake of thinking paying the higher price would provide the most satisfaction with the project.
