Only had half power in the house on Tuesday morning and contacted Consumers energy. They confirmed I had a bad leg in my meter and it had to be repaired by an electrician. Contacted Jim Sieklucki of Beacon Electric on Tuesday morning, Jan 28 and he arrived in the afternoon to assess the repair needed. He called back later that afternoon with a quote and said he couldn't perform the repair until Thursday afternoon when it warmed up a little. He showed up Thursday afternoon, performed the repair in the still cold weather and had things back up and running in 2 and 1/2 hours. Jim was very professional, had to work outside in adverse conditions and cleaned up the area after job was complete. Would highly recommend him for anyone and I have also asked him to quote for work to be done in another house.
Description of Work: Installed new meter socket.

Jim showed up on time, with all of the parts and equipment needed. Day long job, but everything was done in one visit. New box and wiring looked very good and has performed flawlessly since. Our old box was a real mess inherited from past owner. We doubted anyone could straighten it out without massive rewiring, but Jim did the job.

Jim showed up on time to give me an estimate on the work I wanted done. Although, he didn't write everything down, he remembered the work I wanted completed in my house. Once again, Jim showed up on time, completed the work, and cleaned up after himself. He had to come back because he needed another part but called to verify that I was home and came out to install the part he needed. I did not have to pay until the job was completed. Jim also mentioned that his work is guaranteed and if I had any problems, not to hesitate to call him. He also is very careful to make sure his work is done to code. When he took the fan out of my office and installed a light, he mentioned that I could have had a fire with the way the fan had originally been installed. Jim was professional and I would call him again if I needed any electrical work done in my house.
Description of Work: Took out a ceiling fan and installed a light. Took out another ceiling fan and installed a new ceiling fan/light. Installed electric outside the house by my deck.

I am sorry ,I was sure I called and stated I was extremely busy at the time and was not interested in the project. I made several calls to others at the time that were in the estimate process. Our experience with Beacon was a mixed bag. When I first called Jim, I told him I needed work on the switches and outlets mentioned above and he said he would be here at the end of the week. A couple days later he called to say he was backed up on a job and wouldn't be able to get to me until the end of the next week. That was understandable and I appreciated the notice. At that time I told him we would like him to change 2 light fixtures and the bath fan while he was here too. He said OK. When he got here, I showed him around and he said, "Well you have more than I thought you did. I will have to come back tomorrow with another guy." This was mildly frustrating as I'd cleared my schedule to be home that day and I had told him about all of the things we wanted done between the 2 phone conversations we had. That next day he had to cancel due to a serious health issue--totally understandable!--and he came at his first opportunity the next week. He and his assistant were right on time, did all of the work and were even able to fix our bath fan instead of replace it, which was great. Really happy with the money saved. He had to change the configuration of the switches on the wall for the bath fan/light/heater and did not have a switch plate to go on it and he would be back that day or the next with the switch plate. Great, no problem. The next day he came and put the switch plate on while I had new flooring being installed. I was outside with my young children, keeping them out of the way, so I did not know he was here. He popped his head outside to say, "I got your switch plate, you're all set." Later when I got inside I realized, he installed ALMOND switches & switch plate when not 6 inches away, on the same wall, I have another switch/outlet combo that is WHITE. Not only that but he left a divot in the drywall that the switch plate is not covering that my husband had to patch. Within a day of the work being done, my range hood stopped working, on the same circuit as one of the GFIs we had installed. Another electrician advised me that it was probably related to that. I had to make a couple of calls to Jim to get him to come back out, but when he did, he discovered the problem was that someone had spliced something in the wall (creating a fire hazard) and when he installed the GFI, the splice came apart, which caused the hood to stop working. He was generous in pricing this 2nd service call.
Description of Work: Changed out 2 switches, one outlet, added 2 GFI outlets to our kitchen, changed 2 light fixtures and fixed bath exhaust fan.

I am sorry that you feel that the price was a bit high. I made 2 trips to your home from my base in Kalamazoo to Mattawan and spent a total of 4 hours plus gas and maintenance on my vehicle. Saturday's are not considered a normal work day, which I did not charge you any extra for that. As you were having problems with you AC and the heat was unbearable I made an exception to come out right after you call late in the day. I also checked on an air conditioner that I though would better meet your needs and made a call to provide you an additional option instead of running a new circuit. It was my pleasure working with you and hope you call me again with your future electrical needs. Jim Sieklucki, M.E.

Description of Work: Jim and his employee rewired our panel for 200 amp service and assisted in getting our home ready for Consumers to install underground wiring. They were punctual and professional. Jim provided good advice and carried out the project coordinating with other contractors who were working on our home. We received two bids and Beacon was the most reasonable.

Description of Work: I first contacted Beacon with an estimate to do some electrical work at my mother's home. He showed up on time, was very professional, came back and completed the work in the time frame he had given. The total for this job was $2300. I contacted him again when I lost electricity on half of my kitchen. Jim tried to trouble shoot over the phone for me. He told me what to do and I thought I had followed his direction. Unfortunately, I had missed something so he came out, quickly assessed that I had needed to reset a GFI outlet. He charged me a service call at that time and helped me to understand what I need to do if this happens again.,

The electrician offered to come the day I called, but I needed to set it up for a couple days later. He arrived right on time and assessed the situation. Jim was very good with communication and quality of work. He was also very gracious by working with some materials provided by me to save cost. He was able to provide a quote and start the job within days of initial contact. Very good experience overall!
Description of Work: We had Beacon Electric run electric service to a detached garage. This included a 100 amp sub panel, interior/exterior lighting, receptacles, 220v line for future use, natural gas line trenched but not connected, conduit with CAT5 data cable pulled and exterior lighting tied in with existing switch. Future work will be installing a generator connection on the house.

Jim was very quick to come out and give an estimate. After getting a couple of other estimates, his was the most reasonable. I was a little concerned at first because he did not write anything down while he was here for the estimate but after we decided to hire him and he came back for another walk through, he impressed me because he remembered everything we talked about. Jim was always very responsive to phone calls and e-mails. He made good suggestions and was very careful about always following code. He always showed up when he said he would. I would definitely hire him again and recommend him to anyone looking for an electrician.

Jim was very professional and I had great faith in his ability. He even collaborated with me on the preferred height of both chandeliers, having installed many of them. He knew the standard height for chandeliers, but was very good at determining, with me, what looked the best in my rooms. He answered all my questions and concerns patiently and thoroughly.

Description of Work: 1. to replace a breaker that controled the pump for the well, 2. create a way to regularly shut off the pump when we are gone, without using the breaker, which isn't designed for frequent use. I called Jim on a Monday or Tuesday and he came out to give an estimate Thursday. From when I first talked to him on the phone I was impressed with his professionalism -- he let me know a couple details about what the project required (such as GFCI and a 20-amp circuit vs. a 15 amp circuit because I would be putting a chest freezer on the circuit). The next day he came back to do the work, which he finished in the estimated amount of time (1 hour). The job was a very simple one, but I was still impressed with his attention to detail. Jim was perfectly punctual.

Jim was prompt, did exactly what we asked, cleaned up nicely, and was very personable. Everything works great and the switches are much more usable now. We were very pleased and would call him again if we had additional projects of this type.
Description of Work: Jim was subcontracted through Ted McFarlen of Regal Home Services who is doing several projects for us. This project was to rearrange the light switches in our newly configured bathroom/closet area so that the lights controlled by a given switch were more logical than they had been before. This required getting into our attic to rearrange the wiring.

Excellent - will call him again! Story as above...
Description of Work: Jim put up 6 canister lights in our master bedroom and a switch in our master bedroom (we had all the materials). Additionally, he double checked some work that another "electrician" had done after we found some obvious violations. Jim engaged us in decisions that affected the room, went above and beyond by sawing a small notch in an non-exterior attic board, all while dealing with blown-in insulation without a complaint. Jim called when he said he was going to call, and arrived at the house on time. I would highly recommend him to anyone! We will definately have him back for some other work.

After I found water dripping from my circuit breaker panel I got two different reasons why so on my third try I called Beacon Electric and they told me over the phone what the reason might be and a ball park figure to fix it. I had them come out to see first hand and what they told me over the phone was the same except the price to fix everything went DOWN. They came the next day on time and fixed everything in the most timely manor and saved me over $600.00 from the other guy. Now I feel so much safer in my home and I had no idea that water was coming in my breaker box for such a long time I would and do recommend Beacon Electric to everyone!
Description of Work: I hade to have my outside electric cable replaced, also my circuit panel and breakers replaced inside my home. Also they got the electic grounding up to code.
