Mackinaw Landscaping

Great experience with Dan and Sue (owners). Received three estimates for this project, and they had best price and best approach. Dan did not deliver a sales pitch when he visited our home. He had good ideas, I appreciated his 'less is more' philosophy with the landscape, and he didn't try to sell us what we didn't need. Dan and his crew finished the job in the better part of two days. They were very detailed in how they completed the project and cleaned up afterward (including sweeping the area where the stone was delivered and putting down grass seed in necessary areas). Also, they repaired a sprinkler line that was damaged while installing the aluminum edging. If I had one minor frustration, it was the communication leading up to the start of the work. However, given the issues with weather and being a smaller shop juggling spring clean ups with larger projects, it was understandable. The end result was well worth the wait. Overall, a very positive experience with Mackinaw Landscaping, and I'd use them again in a heartbeat.

The owner was part of the twosome who did the work. His explanations to questions were helpful, precise and accurate. The work was done at times he said he would be there (it took 4 days). He had all the right equipment to do the job. We were very satisfied with the quality of work and his services.

Dan Spears was timely, accurate and very professional in the way he engaged in understanding the need, providing solution and estimating time and cost required to complete the work. Dan works hard, is very honest and humble - all qualities that make it very easy to work with him. He was very punctual with his appointments, prompt at providing quote and responding to queries and was open to additions/deletions from the quote. The finished work is a sight to see ! I will definitely hire Dan again for future maintenance projects on the lawn and yard.

I was very pleased with the work of Dan Spears and his company, Mackinaw Landscaping. Dan was responsive throughout the process. He called me back quickly after I contacted his firm to inquire. He scheduled a visit for an estimate promptly. He provided an estimate in a timely fashion. He met with me to review his proposal and his plan for the back and front yards. I asked him to stage the work, so that I could contract for it in separate pieces, if I did not choose to complete the whole job at one time. I am not knowledgeable about plants. I gave Dan a list of things I liked, but told him that these things were not demands, but suggestions, and I was open to other suggestions from him. His plan incorporated most of the things I liked, and he made very good suggestions about other plants. I decided to go with Mackinaw Landscaping because Dan listened carefully to what I said about what I wanted, and what I could afford, and he worked within those limits. Dan and Sue, who works with him, kept me advised about the scheduling of the work. They communicated well and often, both by phone and by e-mail. Dan did most of the work himself, with assistance from helpers, and was on-site whenever work was underway. He came when he said he would come, and did what he said he would do. The final price was exactly what the estimate said it would be. I have great respect for his ideas, for his work, and for his professionalism. I am very happy with the work he did.

I met with Dan the owner and went over the scope of work and my tight budget. After working up an estimate it became quickly apparent that my budget wasn't going to cover both the materials and labor. After we discussed this, Dan offered to just draw up the plans and I could do the labor if that was something I would be interested in. I agreed to this and he delivered the plan a detailed plan to me including a plant list, hardscape materials list and a detailed layout for the plantings. I was very happy with the prompt service and his willingness to work with me. If I had the money in the budget I would certainly have hired him to do all of the work.

From start to finish, Dan Spears delivered on everything he said! Showed up on the day of the appt. on time, and was very professional. I was able to explain what I was looking for, but had no idea how it was going to be done. Dan offered me options and listened to my concerns. What was going to possibly take 2-3 weeks from start to finish was done in ten days because of his constant communication. A pleasure to work with him and I feel confident we will use him for many years to come.

Punctual; Fully explained work to be done; made helpful suggestions that improved quality of final outcome; Caused minimal impact to lawn when bringing in heavy equipment.

From our first contact, Mackinaw Landscaping came out, made suggestions drew out plans, and submitted estimates and a blue print. We asked to leave some things for us to do to save on our budget. The response was very quick. They kept us informed as to when they would begin. They took 2 days to prep the ground and install over 60 plants and bushes, including a last minute request to remove two trees. We are very pleased with the results.

Dan was wonderfully patient with me as he helped me decide what to put in place of the shrubs/trees I didn't like and what shrubs to plant that would be low maintainance and good for our climate. . He offered suggestions, found answers when needed. We had to make some changes a few times and he was great about that as well. He is busy since he is a popular landscaper and doesn't just pass the work off to others without being there to work himself. He gave us a time window and as the time got closer, told us when he would probably be there. Unlike many services we've dealt with, he never made promises he couldn't reasonably keep. If any changes were needed because of weather or unavailable green goods, He always checked and didn't just make them without asking. (I've had the opposite experience so appreciated that!) Once started, the work was done quickly, done well, and not a speck of mess left behind. We are enjoying our new plantings and hope to have Dan do some more work for us next Spring.

My overall experience with Mackinaw Landscaping was excellent. Dan had great ideas, and really worked with me on price. I appreciated the fact that he came when he said he would. Dan and his crew worked hard and did a fantastic job, even when the weather was sweltering! I am very happy with how my backyard looks.

Dan was professional throughout, always willing to work with us on ideas and even a few changes as the project progressed. He was punctual and always kept appointments; he was willing schedule with us around other contractors who were doing jobs in the yard at the same time; and he was simply fantastic to work with. Friendly and dedicated to doing a good job, the landscaping project was a success and we're thrilled with the results!

Dan designed landscaping for our entire .33 acres of a new property. He coordinated with other contractors and he both had people he recommended for other services he didn't provide and was willing to work with the people we chose even if it wasn't his recommendation. He kept all services on time even if he was here on Saturdays to do some work. If we weren't home he left messages letting up know what was going on either by voicemail, email, or a note. He also was willing to work around the things we wanted to do ourselves to help save money. He was willing to even provide us the plants for us to install with his plan to help save money. He completed his work on 5/25 and have until 6/1 to complete. Listen to his advice ;) he knows what he is talking about from experience.

Overall, I was satisfied with the service.

They did an awesome job. They paid attention to detail and he was a very nice person. The quality was very good. The price was very good.

Everything was fine but it was hard to get scheduling and stuff. The plants look good. I wasn’t home when they came.

sWe are pleased with the project. Dan is hard working and concientious.

Our concrete paver walkway had a low spot that needed raising. I brought out a company to estimate that and they pointed out the walkway was graded improperly and had to be relaid. I contacted Mackinaw for a second opinion. Dan came out and did an extremely through job of reviewing the site. He even took up an existing paver to see what the underlying preparation had been. While Dan's price was higher than the other 2 bids that I received, I gave him the work due to his throughness in laying out the work to be done. It made me feel confident he would do a through job. Nobody wants to relay a walkway twice! Dan and his sub spent a long time cutting all of the pavers for our walkway, which is a noisy, dirty job. They did a great job and our walkway looks much better than it ever did before. The water drains properly now too.

Dan was great to work with. I was able to discuss with him what I had in mind, and my budget, and know that we were on the same page. He started the work soon after we agreed on the quote, and did most of the work himself. The work was delayed by the terrible spring weather, but still finished in plenty of time. I'm very pleased with what has been done, and hope to have Dan do some more work for me this year.

There were no difficulties. Very nice to work with. Received a credit for a few unused timbers.

Dan worked by himself. He came to meet me the day after I called him and started on the work a short time later. I gave him a budget and told him sort of what I had in mind. We were landscaping an arts and crafts bungalow so I did a little research and gave him a list of plants appropriate to the period as well as a couple of pictures to give him an idea of the look I wanted and then he chose the plants. He was patient with me when I asked him to change to outline of the path we were experimenting with. My budget didn't allow as many plants as might have been ideal but Dan made suggestions for adding some hostas, etc. that I can get from a friend. He seemed happy to implement my ideas for the landscape plan so it's hard for me to know whether he has strong ideas about design. Very nice guy to work with.

They were efficient when doing the work. They did more than we expected. Their customer service was fine.

Everything was done well and with no surprises. Communication was good and we were happy with the results.

They come when they say they're going to come and they do good work at a fair price.

Although the work was done in late fall, as snow threatened delays, Dan worked hard to get our project done before winter set in. The best treat was to see all the bulbs and perennials surface this spring. Our house looks like it had a facelift, and it really upgraded its curb appeal.

The job went very well. Dan is very meticulous. He analyzed the area, provided a design that suited us and then completed the work. We scaled back the design slightly to meet our price range.
