Mackinaw Landscaping

I had an area that was a former veggie garden. This no longer fit my lifestyle so I hired Mackinaw Landscaping to help me convert it to lawn space. I had been spraying it with weed killer all summer so it wouldn't be a problem for the lawn-to-be. The owner of company came today and cleaned up all the debris of dead vegetation and skimmed off the patches of stubborn weeds and carried those off. Then he leveled the whole plot with a gill and finished it by hand raking. I had some wood planks that were in the way and he moved them for me! I would hire this company again in a heartbeat! Not only did they do a spectacular job, but cleaned up the surrounding area before they left! Very pleasant to do business with.

When contacted, they came right out. They measured up the size of the project and sent a proposal with cost in about a week. The owner informed me that he was about five weeks out before he could do my project. That timeline was fine with me. I sent a deposit, and they did not cash the check until they did my project. They arrived on time when scheduled. They worked hard,fast and completed the project in one day. The grass is coming up well and he has called back to check on the progress of the lawn. The only thing I am a little concerned about is that the mulch is thick in some areas and the grass is not germinating well in those areas. He did leave me extra fertilizer and grass seed to touch up some of those areas. It is hard to give a complete report because it has not completely finished yet. I am satisfied with the work.Grace

After researching on Angie's List, we choose Mackinaw because of all the great reviews and that his business is local. Dan took time to give us choices that we could find by googling and make decisions. Once Dan had been here, all our correspondence was by email and that truly worked for both parties. We had such a small need at his busiest time, but we were treated with courtesy and professionalism. We would choose Dan and Sue and Mackinaw again in a heartbeat!

Dan performed the following work: - Leveled and sloped the ground in an area around the back of our garage. - Ripped up a wood plank walk way from our back deck towards our garage. - Put in edging material - Added wood bark/mulch - Put in a flagstone walkway from the garage to the back deck - Put in grass seed/fertilizer/lawn starter mix in the bare areas surrounding the work Dan did an amazing job. We would use him again without hesitation!

The owner, Dan does the work along with his crew. A very nice guy, hard working, and did a very good job. Definitely knows his plants and I think was a great value. will use again.

I would like to reiterate how impressed I am by the work ethic that you and your employees exhibited. You worked tirelessly the entire time you were on my property and when you left each day, you cleaned up and left our home as we would have it. That, to me, is a sign of respect, responsibility and excellent customer service. It was a pleasure working with you each step of the way. I would highly recommend you to anyone who is looking for a top-notch landscaping company!

The charge was very reasonable - it was easy to work with the owner of the company. He was exceptionally patient with my changing plans.

Dan did an excellent job in the removal and replanting, with valued advice as to what type of evergreens to plant, what height, and their subsequent care. We heartily recommend his services.

There were a few delays in the project start and completion, mainly due to weather, but Mackinaw was good at communicating and if they could not meet the date they told us, they would let us know.

But, they took a really really long time to get back to us. By the time they really called back we had already finished our project. I don't remember the price, but like I said, it was after we had already finished our project. So we ended up going with another company and the gentleman who came out was very, very kind. He was very knowledgeable as far as landscaping is concerned, and had some ideas, but then again he took so long to get back to us, so we went with another company. I don't want to give him a bad review because we had such a unique situation, so I think he was trying to figure out a way to help us out, but then they shot up so high in estimates because they didn't want to help us; because it was such a big task, so he said he really didn't know what to do. The project that we had was very, very unique. He never heard of it before it was just kind of out there so I don't think it's necessarily his fault.

It turned out pretty good. I just wanted plans for landscaping and I did the actual work. A man from the company just met with me and we went over what we could do with the landscaping. And then, he drew something up and gave it to me and then I took it from there.

It went very well and I was very pleased with the services..Very courteous company..Would use again..

Dan Spears, the owner of Mackinaw Landscaping promptly returned my initial phone inquiry and scheduled an appointment to meet with my wife and I to review our landscaping ideas. We were very impressed with Dan. He listened to our ideas and made suggestions to improve our landscaping. We found Dan to be knowledgeable, creative, informative and pleasant. Our landscape plan was soon completed and reviewed with us by Dan at our residence. Soon after reviewing the plan we received a proposed written contract and detailed cost estimate which we found to be fair and reasonable. The final project cost also was consistent with the estimated contract amount. Several weeks after signing the contract, our landscaping project began. Dan and his crew completed the entire project in a little over 2 days. We were very impressed with the Mackinaw Landscaping crew. They were prepared, knowledgeable, very hard working, friendly and courteous. They promptly removed all old landscaping and completely cleaned up at the end of each day. Dan is a very responsible and attentive business owner who clearly takes pride in his work. He and Sue, his wife, maintained good communication with us. It was a pleasure doing business with them. We are very happy with our new landscaping and would definitely hire Mackinaw Landscaping again!

Great. Didn't have time to work with them directly but asked him to work with builder and schedule and it went smoothly. Put in hydroseed Newhouse for parade of homes. Middle washed out because of rain. Came back out and fixed the issue. Landscaping looks simple but great just what I wanted. Highly recommend.

First of all, Dan, Sue, and Dave are spectacular people. Secondly, they did a fantastic job on our yard for our newly built house. They listened to our ideas and what we wanted, then made it work. We're not landscaping professionals like they are so we deferred a lot to their judgment and I'm glad we did, because it turned out great. These guys know what they're doing. They are VERY responsive to questions and are consistently more than happy to provide advice and guidance. They stayed in budget, which was huge for us. We took three quotes and Dan was the only one who I felt was completely knowledgable and has a 4 year degree in landscape horticulture. Also, Dan and Dave were thorough in surveying the yard and were very detailed in setting up our drainage system. Dan has a superb work ethic -- these are straight up honest folks. Dan is a work horse and is on site 100% of the job. While Dan is on a on a job site Sue is handling calls and e-mails and we found her to be incredibly helpful. Again, they are very responsive. My wife and I strongly recommend them for landscaping.

Never responded to calls. There was no answer on the phone, called and left voice mails 3 times, but never returned call.

When you work with Mackinaw, you get the owner - Dan. He is great to work with. He listens closely to what you want to accomplish and any concerns and was willing to adjust the plan multiple times. The project was happening during other site work and Dan was very flexible in having to change his schedule to accomodate other work. I would definately use Mackinaw Landscaping again.

Dan and his guys were punctual, hardworking, and friendly. We couldn't have been happier with the job they did.

We love the rest and the work was done in a timely fashion. Every thing was cleaned up before he left for the day and kept us informed of the process.

I liked that after the initial walk-through of the changes I was looking for, that Dan came up with a nice simple design and within the price range I was expecting. Although the weather wasn't always making it easy for them to give me an estimate of when they could start on the work, they always responded quickly to emails or phone calls. They completed all the work in 2 days and did a really nice job.

Dan put in all the plants and a ton of big rocks and guaranteed plantings for 1 year.

It all went very well, they were very efficient and the work was done in a timely manner. It looks better than I had hoped and have received many compliments. I would use them again and would recommend them to all of my friends.

We hired Dan from Mackinaw to remove a small unhealthy tree in our front yard and install a 3? / 15? maple. He was quick to provide a fair quote in writing, which included other potential services that we discussed. Mackinaw fit this relatively small job into their busy schedule. It turned out great! The new tree is better than expected. The quality, communication, and personal follow-up with Mackinaw is excellent. It's good to now know who to utilize in all our future landscaping needs.

Dan was great to work with - he was very thoughtful, careful, professional and really tried hard to exceed our expectations. He demonstrated excellent communication skills and attention to details. He took time to listen and understand our goals for the project. The work was very neatly and expertly done. I recommend him without any reservations - outstanding! I am so glad that I checked Angie's List before hiring a contractor and found Dan!

These are terrific people. Came before they said they could, quoted IN WRITING and in a detailed fashion. Last but not least, they offered a fair price for the scope of work. We accepted their quote, signed the document and sent it back with a deposit check.
