I will be calling them for all of my extra jobs from now on. Angie's list was my first thought when this happened!
Description of Work: I had a leak on my kitchen ceiling...a big water bubble. I thought it was a roof pipe. I called Bill White roofing right away and "Cougar" was here the next morning. He went into my attic and discovered there was no insulation in that area and condensation was building up. He laid the insulation and was on his way....I'm so impressed. I thought it would be a long process and high cost...relief!

+ -1 moreThe only problem that we had with them was with the girl in the office that schedules. They didn't come when she said they were going to come and she didn't call us. When we went in to see them she was just very rude and condescending. The roofing itself and the guys who did it were wonderful. Their price was the lowest by far. Honestly if we hadn't paid half upfront, we would have asked them to forget about it because she was that bad. As far as the roofers, the job they did and the way they cleaned up was all very good.

+ 0 moreBilly White was directly involved in getting to a work statement and estimate. Beyond a "normal" roofing replacement, the replacement of skylights involved a few iterations as to what replacement skylights and blinds were available and would fit. He called back several times to communicate progress. Additionally, he subcontracted an electrician to install two bathroom fans. The electrician called to verify the job requirements with me. The bid was significantly less and was awarded. The electrical work was done first and went fairly smoothly. Two trips were necessary because only one of the two fans were delivered initially. Billy White kept us informed of the work schedule (there were about 4 weeks between signing the contract as work start). Due to weather, the work spanned about a week. The work crew were very professional and cautious. Since the weather was spotty, they only stripped a section that they knew they could get done. There was never any need to cover a bare roof with tarp in a storm. The crew cleaned up at the end of each day, including going over the area with a magnet to ensure no nails were left in the grass. They moved stripped roofing by hand and did not need to drive on the lawn. The only material left on site during the work was some boxes and planks which were left on one side of the driveway - well out of the way. In addition to good workmanship, I give Billy White Roofing good points for communicating well in advance as to the schedule and in doing a good job of cleaning up after.

+ -1 moreThey are the very best! They were responsive to questions and did research to fully answer other questions. The workers were clean, polite, and fast. Our job took several days, but at the end of each day they fully cleaned up all of their excess materials, etc. The day after the job was finished a Billy White worker came and did an additional cleanup (looking for anything the others had missed) AND ran a machine designed to pick up missed nail heads.
Description of Work: Roof replacement: tear-off of two layers of old shingle and installation of new shingles, ice shields, drip edges, and necessary flashing.

Unfortunately the time needed to complete the job took longer than expected as they thought they could finish in one afternoon so they had to come back a second day. They ended up working past dark to complete it on the second day. They sent an inspector to make sure the work was performed as promised. A portion of gutter guard was missing afterward, but they replaced it with new in a couple of days at no charge. Job completed to my satisfaction.

They put in extra effort to take off the old shingles from the attached garage because the original owner/builder did not put tar paper under the first layer of shingles and they had melted into the wood underlayment. They cleaned up the site after they finished the work.
Description of Work: They took off 2 layers of old roofing, replaced some underlayment (plywood), and put on new shingles. Also cleaned out 4 roof vents and added 6 more vents. They also cleaned out the gutters.

They had these work belts on that when they smoked, instead of putting it out on the ground they put the cigarette butt in the work belt. They left nothing on the ground. They didn't play loud music or curse. They didn't take breaks. They went to lunch as a group and were gone exactly one hour. When they were finished they took me and a metal detector, walked me all the way around the garage to make sure they had picked up everything the way it needed to be and there was nothing left. They were very polite.

If there were changes, they actually took a digital photo of what was needed to be changed and showed me and then had me sign off, which was cool. They got the work done ahead of schedule, and the quality of the workmanship was excellent. Actually, they were the lowest bid. I can’t think of a single complaint. I would rate them highly and would use them again in the future. In fact, I already have used them; they did my business roof.

+ 0 moreCompany started dropping off some of the supplies a couple of days before they started. Job started one day later than originally scheduled due to rain. Started on 20 September and finished on the 22 September. Three layers of shingles were removed and hauled away. They covered up/shielded all shrubs, windows, house siding for protection. Did did a very effective job of hauling away all the old shingles. Never found a nail in the driveway or yard. Laid around 30 squares of shingles on the structure. New eavestroughing with powder coated screens were installed on September 29th (rain delayed by a couple of days). New system consisted of 5 inch eaves (larger than previous system). Crew arrived mid morning and the entire system was installed by 3:00PM that afternoon. Installation was first rate and the new system works far better than previous system which in my opinion was never installed correctly (I have built a couple of houses in my lifetime). Fist time in 20 years I have not had to go up on a two story roof and clean out eaves which I was having to due 4 to 5 times a year We have gone through a number of rain storms now and the roof is 100% watertight and eavestroughing/screen work just fine. Contractor has has very good reputation in Jackson area. Watched him replace many roofs over the last 20 years and highly recommended him!

Description of Work: My 8 year old roof had developed a leak and I had been unable to find the leak myself. I had been seeing these Billy White roofing trucks all over town and figured they must be doing pretty good. I called them and explained that my roof was only 8 years old and wondered if they did repairs as well. The receptionist replied that they did and we made arrangements to have one of their people stop by. Problem #1 I specifically asked that the estimator call my wife before he came out because my wife would be in and out all day. Estimator never called but showed up while she was out. He also left a voice mail stating that he would call back with pricing on a new roof??? His voice mail stated that he believed the leak was at the back door and a bunch of mumbo jumbo that my wife didn't understand. We then received a quote in the mail the next day for several thousand dollars for tear-off and re-roof. Problem #2 After several bouts of phone tag with the estimator my wife was finally able to convey to him that we didn't want a new roof as this one was only 8 years old. we just wanted the leak fixed. My wife explained to him that I worked in Lansing and that he really needed to talk with me. She also explained that he needed to call me after 6pm as that is when I got home. We waited two days and no return call. Problem #3 I finally called their office and spoke with them again. I told them that I wanted another estimator as this guy never even came into the house to see where the leak was. They assured me that they would assign another person to our account and that we would hear from them the next day. They never called back nor returned to the house . We have since had two other estimates. Both estimators came inside the house, went up into the attic and surveyed the entire inside of the roof. We ended up hiring one them who was a friend of a friend from church. He replaced all the flashing around our chimney and sealed all around the two bathroom vents. I am happy to say NO MORE LEAKS!! Total cost $200 as opposed to a $6000.00 roof job that Billy White quoted. I've spent my whole life in the customer service industry and these folks dropped the ball miserably. I know that roofing is a hot dirty, thankless job but how can anyone have any confidence in their work when they can't even get an estimate right?
