I've used this company off and on over the years, and they used to be really good, but lately I have been disappointed. I needed a new storm door and wanted a Larson, which they told me not to use because it was horrible to install. It's not, and the one they recommended instead is a pain in the neck because you have to take out the glass and put in the screen--and it was so poorly built that the guy (local mfg) had to come and install the center bar because it wouldn't hold the glass panel. The other job was on the garage. I needed to replace the outside edges of the garage door and wrap it with aluminum for the installation of the new garage door. Then they were supposed to install the weatherseal around the new door. They did the wrap ok, but then totally failed on the garage door weatherseal. They said it was too short, so they cut a bit off the side piece to fit the top, installed it in a way that it sagged across the top of the door opening, did not attach it closely enough to the garage door so that I could see daylight on the sides and got both snow and rain in the garage. I had the garage door company come and install a new one instead, since this was clearly a job beyond them. When I stopped in to their store a while later to talk about installing a new window, it was like walking into a frat boy party. Could not get a straight answer from anyone--they were more interested in joking around than really discussing the work with me. Gave me an estimate based on no information and didn't seem interested in coming to look at the job. I finally left. I don't like when contractors treat you like an idiot just because you are a woman (plenty of comments on women generally from the guy giving the quotes). I will not go back here.

Awesome customer service and workmanship. Job was performed as promised, I'd highly recommend them!

They were fantastic to work with and repaired the issue without and problems. They stood behind their work a year later.

Our house was built in the 1890's and still had old asbestos siding. We needed to replace several pieces that were cracking and allowing moisture in. Dave VanderLaan gave us a quote and explained how asbestos siding pieces can't be replaced, you must either get a permit to remove it all and replace with newer siding or side over it. This was confirmed with several other contractors that quoted the job. They were about 8-10 weeks out on the job but their bid came in the lowest and Dave seemed like a good guy. He dropped off samples for us to choose from and ended up doing the job sooner than expected. We are very happy with the job.

From the first contact at the home show, to the sales presentation, the scheduling, the installation, and the follow up, I was impressed with the professionalism of VanderLaan Home Improvement Co. We worked with David, and we will certainly conatct him again when we replace the remaining sixteen (!) windows in our home. The Allside windows that he recommended are functional, efficient, attractive, and budget-friendly. The installers did a tremendous job in a very timely and professional manner.

They were in the business for 50 years and its family-owned. They're just A all around. My interaction with them was good. They're really reasonable compared to a lot of other companies. The windows are working out good. We did 12 before with them and these 4 were done.

The estimator was very professional, The installers were prompt. They completed the job in 2 hours and cleaned up afterwards.

The vinyl siding work cost $11,300 for my 1200 sq ft two-story home and unattached one and a half stall garage. Eight windows replaced cost $3200. David was easy to work with and good about answering the questions we had. Emails were answered very quickly. The work took a while to be completely finished as the subcontractor that was doing the work seems to have left the company and it appeared there was communication issues between him and Vanderlaan, leading Vanderlaan to believe the work was done. We were pretty much just waiting on finishing touches and once we emailed David he got a crew out the next day to finish up. He took $200 off the bill for our trouble.

I called for an estimate and a gentleman came out when promised. The representative was nice and polite. We talked about what I was looking for and he went into the attic to look at my insulation. I told him ahead of time that their was Vermiculite up in the attic that may contain asbestos. I was interested in a price to remove it and just go over top. He came down and told me that it was not Vermiculite but Rock-wool. I was hesitant but he offered to have it tested and send me some info about the differences. He email me me some links that went against his conclusion. I told him that from the stuff he sent it was clearly Vermiculite. He still offered to have it tested and to give me a call. I waited a week and emailed him, but he did not respond. I waited another week and then called their main offices and left a message with the secretary. He still never called back. I don't know if he was just embarrassed or busy, but I found this to be frustrating and a waste of my time. I got estimates from a few other companies that had no problem returning my calls.

The customer service provided during our latest experience was appalling. We ordered a replacement window after breaking a window. We waited for five weeks for our window (we were told it would take about two weeks) to arrive. Not hearing from our service provider, we called, only to find that it had been sitting in their storage area for several weeks. No name had been attached to the order. While this is possibly an honest mistake, their attitude was absolutely disappointing. In the end we had them come out to install the window for us as it is constructed differently than the old window and we didn't want to do any damage in the process! :) After waiting all this time for a replacement window, we had hoped for a sincere apology at least. We felt that the sloppiness of their record keeping and general and quot;it's not my faultand quot; attitude will drive us to take our business elsewhere in the future.

We have hired him and he will start the work in about three weeks. We hired David Vanderlaan because he was very sincere and upfront.

Sunny day. Arrived when they said. Took care of the mess. We're very pleased. Still looks good today.

Did a nice job, on time, cleaned up good, very pleasant experience. Work looks great. Consulted with me on a few suggestions so we agreed on doing the work completely right and the best way.

Van Laan is just a pleasure to work with. He resolves any problems immediately and is quite friendly and easy to communicate with. He follows directions rather well and is quite accurate about the work he does. That is why I like using him. I would only have positive things to report about my handyman experiences with this fine young man.

THEY CONDUCT THEIR BUSINESS IN A VERY PROFESSIONAL MANNER. THE PRICE WAS VERY REASONABLE FOR ALL OF THE WORK THAT THEY DID. I HAVE BEEN VERY SATISFIED WITH ALL THE WORK THAT HAS BEEN DONE AROUND MY HOME.

THIS COMPANY WORKED VERY QUICKLY, FINISHING THE PROJECT IN ONLY ONE DAY. ONCE THEY ARRIVED THEY VERIFIED THE WORK PLAN WITH ME THEN GOT RIGHT TO WORK. THEY CLEANED UP AFTER THEMSELVES, AND MADE SURE I WAS ALWAYS AWARE OF WHAT THEY WERE DOING.

THEY WERE EXCELLENT. THEIR WORK WAS OF TOP QUALITY, AND THEY WERE EXTREMELY PROFESSIONAL. THEY TOOK THEIR TIME AND MADE SURE THE JOB WAS DONE RIGHT. THEY ALSO ANSWERED ALL MY QUESTIONS AND FILLED ME IN ON IMPORTANT TIPS.

I LIKED HOW THEY WERE ON TIME AND INSTALLED THE WINDOWS VERY QUICKLY. THE WINDOWS ARE THE EASIEST TO KEEP CLEAN. I WOULD RECOMMEND THEM TO ALL OF MY FRIENDS.
