Tony debunked the "sales pitches" of 3 prior technicians who came to our home to sell us over 13K worth of heating and cooling products. He examined our equipment, fixed our unit FREE OF CHARGE and provided us with the details/documentation to purchase more efficient/appropriate equipment in the future. This kind of service is almost unheard of these days. We feel lucky to have discovered someone who "gets it" on a technical and also a customer service level!
Description of Work: If you are looking for an honest and straight-forward service person, Tony is your guy! It's unusual to find someone who truly values integrity in the business. We will be calling Schutz Heating and Cooling for all of our heating and cooling needs; as well as referring him to our friends and family!

Tony and Anthony were very prompt, both for the initial estimate and for the work the next day. They did very good work very quickly and consulted me on every decision they made. Everyone tells me the price was very high for the parts and complexity of the labor, but to be fair, Tony came out on a Sunday to give me the estimate and charged me exactly what he quoted me, even leaving an extra pipe in case the propane tank installers had a problem with where the pipe ended (so they could extend the line if necessary). Everything has worked fine,

After receiving quotes from different companies in the area, I contacted Tony via Lowes Home Installations. His quote came in significantly lower than the competitors and his reviews on Angie's List were much better. He was professional and honest. While I had received quotes for just an AC install for my house, I ended up with an AC and furnace install after consulting with Tony. My house needed some work to complete the project and he fit with the situation clearly communicating what my options were along with the upside / downside of each option. I feel incredibly lucky to have dealt with him and his team. They even stayed late into a Friday evening to finish the job up whereas most would have probably called it an evening and picked it up Monday morning. Thanks to the Shutz crew!

The service call went better than anyone could ask for. Fast, Honest, Professional and Knowledgable in what was wrong and how to fix it. Very good quality service at a very decent price..
Description of Work: A/C stopped cooling and the weather had just turned hot. Called before 8AM and Lena said Tony would come out that morning. Within 30 minutes Tony called and said he could stop by on his way to pick up parts from a supply company. He came within the hour with another employee and within minutes he diagnosed that there was a bulging capacitor. He promptly changed it and the condensor started to spin as it should. He waited to make sure it was cooling. As I'm selling the house within days, I wasn't looking forward to having to buy a new air conditioner as part of the deal. This fix was quick and a fraction of the cost of buying a new unit.. I cannot say enough good things. Tony was prompt, courteous, honest and efficient. All this was done by 9AM the same day. Thank you so much Schutz & Co. you deserve a Page of Happiness!

I was looking for a furnace and air conditioning unit to replace the 15 year old Amana equipment that had come with the house. The old unit had given me significant problems and repair costs over the last 10 - 12 years that I had had enough and decided to replace them. Reliability of the new units were paramount as well as the cost and efficiency factors. I also wanted to make sure I was talking to the installer as well as a sales person as the installer is equally important as the equipment. I had six different HVAC contractors review my system requirements and provide quotations. Each carried a specific type of furnace. Based on my research and input from all the suppliers, I selected the Trane equipment. Tony Schutz provided the most comprehensive quote and clear definition of the work the would be performed and the associated costs. Since reliability and warranty was a key factor, I asked each to provide me the cost of a 10 year labor warranty to go along with the equipment warranty. All except Schutz could not provide me the cost until they went back to their offices. Prices ranged from an extra $450 to $1200, except for Schutz. The 10 year labor was already included in his package. Regarding the efficiency and costs of the equipment, Tony provided a very competitive quote for different options from which I selected high efficiency units. He was also the only supplier that recommended modification of the input duct work to improve the air flow. I liked the quote well enough, I also had a humidifier and high end filter installed. Installation was scheduled and confirmed as the date grew nearer. I cannot say enough of how Tony and his crew took care regarding the property making sure everything was protected. Installation took a day. The operation of the unit was discussed with me at length and it has been running for a month now with zero issues. I would highly recommend Schutz and Company and the Trane equipment.

When I called Schutz Heating and Cooling Tony's wife Lena answered the phone and was extremely helpful. All three of the ventless gas fireplaces that we use as our primary heat source were not working, and we had an early cold spell coming. Lena said if they were not able to get them up and running immediately, and it got cold ,they had some electric heaters they would bring for us to use. I found this to be unprecedented customer service, as it was the first time we had called them. Tony and his assistant came out and got two of the three in tip-top running condition, as well as having Lena research parts we would need for two of them. One they ordered so they would have it in-stock when we need it, and other they advised against ordering. We have been using heat on and off for over a month of this heating season so far, and the repairs he did last year are still going strong.
Description of Work: We have several ventless gas fireplaces that needed service. Tony cleaned two of them and got them running perfectly, the third needed a part that was quite expensive. After doing the research, we were advised against buying the part, as the reason it was so expensive was that the manufacturer had gone out of business. Therefore any problems we may have had in the future would have been costly repairs as well. To some companies this could be seen as future repair jobs, but they advised that our money would be better spent on a new unit, and as they don't sell them, it was not a bid for business. I truly appreciated their honesty.

The quoting process went really well. Tony was respectful, knowledgeable and eager to give information.Even though he did not turn in the cheapest quote, I hired his company because he was the only one who went into the crawl space to check out the area where most of the work would be done. They showed up on time, began the work right away.I was not informed of the problems with the joists or sub-floors. I would have replaced the sub-floors myself had I been told of the rotted condition under the old water heater. It would have delayed the process but now I have new equipment on flooring that needs to ultimately be replaced. The added expense of taking out the equipment puts it well out of my financial ability to do it now. I did have to change from the most expensive furnace to the next level down. That is the ONLY thing I asked to change. During the set up on installation day Tony tried to get me to agree to a 30 gallon water heater rather than the 40 gallon he had told me I should have at the time of the quoting process. Then they were not going to put in a humidifier and when I brought it up he was hostile and accused me of wanting stuff for free. NEVER did I EVER change the need for a humidifier. Turns out it would have to be put in the crawl space so I could not, would not agree to that. Could they have seen that before they installed the furnace and situated things differently? Who knows now, again, too expensive for me to have that option. I found Tony to be very rude and condescending once they were on the job. I do not expect "free" stuff and a humidifier was in the original quote and the only change as I said was the type of furnace. It was not even the cheapest furnace that I went to. It was second from the top of the line. Worse by far is the refusal to replace ALL of the duct work. From the very beginning I made it clear that ALL of the duct work needed to be replaced up the the REGISTERS. I know I said that. Not only did they not replace the boots (rectangle lining that goes up to the register) but they did not originally replace the worse of the duct work. It was rusty, had been taped almost completely by me last fall because I could not afford to replace it then. It was so obviously in bad shape yet they did not take it out. That is until I noticed that they did not replace the boot in the bathroom. After they took out that terrible duct work and the boot, I realized they had had no intention of replacing the very worst duct work. I had taken vacation days to be home for the repairs. I am so glad I did because I would have been fuming even more to come home and discover the very thing I was looking forward to the most was not done. When I told Tony of the boots not being replaced he was not receptive and all and told me the amount of work it would be and that it would mean another half day's work. Interesting that during the quoting process he had told me that it would take three days. Once he was here to do the work he said two day. Trusting and stupid me, I thought he must have brought extra crew. NEVER did I think he was going to not bother with the very reason to have this done at all. The duct work, all of it, was filthy, there is rust and dirt in the boots that I did not insist were replaced because I did not want Tony back in my home. I was hoping I could just clean them up but that it not the case. There is rust in several of them and they are just plain disgusting. His employees were exceptional. He as a manager did not manage the site well, did not do or have his crew do what he had agreed to and was hostile toward me at times. With the financing I got through them, he said he is paid up front. That explains a lot. He had the money before he even started the job. From there, what is in it for him to be sure promises were kept. Nothing. It's in the bank. NO worries. The paperwork he gave me for the financing through Wells Fargo had included a business card with an address for sending payment. Since he did not ask me about a down payment, I did not get to put the money on the account and the full amount was charged to the credit card plan. I was not happy but once I saw the address I immediately sent out a check for $1000 figuring it will save me at least $60. It came back to me undeliverable. I called the company and was told that address had not been used for more than a year. His wife did offer to give me the $60 back but I refused telling her I did not want to be accused of getting "free" stuff again. Tony also had told me that he paid my interest. I had called him to try to clarify this because the paperwork said that I would be charged one interest rate for the length of the contract or until it is paid in full. Why would he pay "my" interest and I have to pay too? I was even more confused after talking to him. Then the paperwork from the company came in to my address. Turns out that he paid the user fee for the credit card like all businesses pay and it had nothing to do with my rate or interest paid. Honestly, he needs to study up on the process. He did no follow up. I had to constantly email and ask about the inspection for the permit that was required by law and included in the quote. It took about a month to get this inspection done. I do not believe they got the permit until after the work was done and I started asking for the pass verification. I was going to call to verify my suspicions but I certainly do not want to have anything more to do with this company. So it is a mute point. I have the inspection report - pass/fail for the AC. Don't know what else if anything was inspected. I do not know how that works and assume (and hope) that even though it took a lot of pushing from me that they did the right permit pulling and all is well.
Description of Work: I had a new furnace, AC and water heater installed plus all of the duct work was SUPPOSeD to be replaced as part of the original quote.

Our AC died one recent evening and a company was sent out by our utility company two days later (we have a home protection plan with them). He checked everything over the course of about 2 hours and diagnosed it as "fried." We were shocked - this was only an 11 year old, top of the line Trane system. My husband called several places and had to leave messages (one didn't call back for TWO weeks, long after we'd already put in our new unit). He called our local Lowe's store and they not only answered the phone but gave us the number for Schutz Heating and Cooling. Thank goodness!! It was near the end of the work day but Schutz' office staff answered the phone and then immediately contacted the owner, Tony Minton, on a job site. He called us back in less than a minute. He was here the next day -- with two portable air conditioners for us to use!! -- to look at the system, go over our options and give us an estimate. Tony was great -- he REALLY knows his stuff and he was able to explain what had happened based on an inspection of everything from the AC to the furnace unit and even the thermostat! Our installation in 2001 had some serious flaws and had essentially been slowly strangling the AC. In addition to the unit, we needed a new thermostat (again, the original install had put in the wrong type for our 2-stage furnace so it had never worked at capacity), and a bigger return air boot (ours was so small it wasn't giving the system the proper air flow required). He ordered the Trane unit we wanted that day and scheduled the install date. The crew arrived first thing that morning and Tony arrived shortly after them to do the sheet metal work needed for the new air boot himself! We can't say enough about Tony or his excellent crew -- four of the nicest guys we've ever had working at our house. Once everything was completed they had not only fixed everything they set out to do but also all 7 problems from the original installers that they found as they worked without charging us anything extra. They explained how everything was working, what had been fixed and why, how to use the new digital thermostat and what we needed to do to maintain the system properly. Tony followed up with a phone call to be sure everything was working well and that we were happy and gave us his direct cell number to call him back if we had any issues, concerns or questions. Oh, did I mention that in addition to the 10 year warranty Trane gives on the unit, Schutz H&C gives a 25 year warranty on their labor? This company is professional, efficient and confident in its workmanship. We've cancelled our protection program with our utility company and are going with Schutz H & C for all our HVAC needs from now on. We're recommending them to everyone.
Description of Work: We replaced our entire A/C system and HVAC thermostat as well as fix what turned out to be seven big problems with the installation we'd had done 11 years ago by another company. See the story below.....

I received 3 quotes all from respectable companies. 75% of the content was the same but Tony Schultz to me seemed the most professional, informative, and organized compared to the other two companies. The quote was also a bonus coming in at the best competitive pricing. The installation crew was nice and professional. All the work was done neatly and professionally. They even fixed the previous installers mistake by moving the electrical breaker disconnect to the a/c next to the a/c, the previous installer had it 10ft away. After they were done they stand by there work by putting a signed 25 year warranty on the workmanship and send all the warranty information to Trane. I would highly recommend them to anyone.

My furnace quit working, I called Schutz at about 8 am, and was told that somebody will come to my house within the hour. At exactly one hour after that, West came, checked out the furnace, said that it needed some gas pressure adjustment, cleaned and inspected the furnace. He worked fast, explained everything to me very well. I used a coupon from Angie's list for 10% off.

Our furnace stopped working and we were without heat. We phoned Schutz & Co. after reviewing them on Angie's List and he responded promptly. The customer service representative was polite and helpful. Tony arrived promptly and was able to diagnose the problem right away. They were very organized and had a set price schedule. We used a 10% coupon offered by the company. He replaced the defective gas valve, gave us a free furnace filter, and was able to install a new electronic thermostat that same day. We were very pleased with their overall service and thought them to be professional, knowledgeable, and efficient. We will use them for all our furnace and hot water needs in the future.

My wife's unexpected birthday present this year was a new furnace when the old one died on her birthday! Needless to say a furnace is critical living in the midwest during winter so we called Schutz. They came out within a few hours and West (the tech) showed / explained what happened to the furnace. Being an engineer I appreciated his explanation and it made me feel more comfortable about his diagnosis. Tony (the owner) came over with some space heaters and spent time explaining my options to repair or replace the existing furnace. His explanation was very thorough and we went ahead with a replacement at a very fair price. Tony & West came in the next day and replaced the furnace quickly and professionally. They explained everything to us about the new furnace and thermostat as well as discussed how to maintain the new set up. They were very helpful and made it clear that if we had any questions or problems to call right away. I am very pleased with the entire process and would recommend Schutz to any family or friends!

We had gotten quotes from several places in the area for a new furnace. Tony from Schutz was the most professional and most knowledgeable of all the people we met with. We decided to go with them and they installed the whole package for us. They showed up on time, and finish everything in one day. These guys are great, true to their world and offer a great warranty for their work. Defiantly someone I would do business with again and highly recommend to anyone looking to replace a heating and cooling system. We had a question the day after install and Tony came out and took a look and took care of us. Top noch service that you dont see very often today. Great company.

After getting 7 estimates and finding a company that we were confident in, the Schutz team had the right credentials and expertise for the job. Tony was very informative on all of the products that would suit our needs in our tri level home and discussed in detail the work they would perform. They were very polite, professional and conscientious on prepping the home with tarps, clean up and bringing portable heaters for comfort while the work was being completed. After opening the new furnace, they noticed a small dent in it due to packaging from the warehouse and immediately decided it was not acceptable and returned it on the spot with a new one within a few hours. This company went out of their way to provide us with filters we couldn't find, fixing our duct work we covered up while remodeling and they made adjustments to our existing humidifier so it would run more efficiently. When the job was completed, Tony explained the new equipment and assured me if there was any questions or concerns he would take care of it. After leaving, he recognized my husband coming home from work and decided to turn around and went over all of the equipment once again with my husband. This company stands behind their work, stays updated on the newest technology, follows up after the install, registers your products, and actually cares about the work they do now and promises to keep you happy in the future. That just doesn't happen anymore! It's good to know their are still people out there that take pride in their work! Thanks Schutz Heating and Cooling!

From my first phone call until completion of the work, everyone went above and beyond what I expected. I had another company in before who charged more than twice as much and didn't even complete the repair. I would highly recommend this company!
Description of Work: I had two vent free fireplaces that were not working. The technicians cleaned and repaired them both.

Went well, in good timely manner. Told me of changes in gas line requirements, so they didn't need to replace any parts.
Description of Work: Maintenance check7up on furnace, also checked on gasline to fireplace in master bedroom. and checked for leaks in line and made sure fireplace was working properly

The process went well. Because of all the work we had done we had no idea on the options that were available. Tony walked us thru the process and explained the units and how they interacted with each other via the programmable thermostat. We are still learning the codes and how to adjust the heat pump. Tony was back a week ago and recommended we adjust the percentage of time the fan circulates. This is our first heat pump. We still have the summer months to get thru so I would say we have some time before a full report can be submitted. However, from the research we did it should be fine.
Description of Work: Removed old furnace, air cleaner, humidifier, hot water heater and A/C. Installed new furnace, air cleaner, humidifier, hot water heater and heat pump. Also ran a gas line for an artificial log and brought up to spec the water feed to the humidifier.

Their work was wonderful. They were very pleasant and thorough. When they were done, they completely cleaned up after themselves and went over the equipment operation with us. They even arrived a half hour early for their appointment. We would definately use this company again!!
Description of Work: They installed an air cleaner, humidifier & thermostat.
