ceramic tile, hardwood floor
  + 0 more
It was the middle of August when they did the kitchen flooring. On October 28, they came back to install the hall flooring and the laundry room/bathroom tile. (1) They made a hole in the wall (the drywall) in one of the bathrooms. They did repair that issue. (2) They kicked the toilet paper holder off the wall twice and they used liquid nail to repair it, which I couldn't get off in other areas. They were having trouble getting the doors back on in one of my bathrooms, so I don't know if that's when they knocked it out of the wall. They initially just left it there, and when i went in to use the bathroom, it just fell right off. They didn't even say anything. (3) My fireplace has a piece nicked out of it. (4) The doors that they put back on, don't close properly. They needed adjusting after the installation of the flooring, but now they don't close properly. (5) They were walking back and forth between bathrooms on my carpet. One of the guys walked with black stuff on his feet and now that is stuck on my flooring and I'm still trying to cleaning it off. My carpets were clean, and now they are very visibly dirty. If they were going to be going back and forth, they really needed to use a drop cloth. I washed the rugs. I wasn't able to wash the oriental rug (I had just paid $100 to have that cleaned). (6) Their carpet person came. I had the carpet removed in the hallway, but my bedrooms still had carpet. The carpet needed to be re-attached to the new wood flooring. I wasn't watching him when he did it and I don't know if the carpet needed to be stretched, but when it was re-attached it was all wrinkly. I had to call to have them fix it. The initial appointment was cancelled, but they sent out another person to fix it. He was able to get it re-attached properly. (7) I had an outlet in the floor. I don't know if they were just hammering so hard, but the outlet just popped out of the floor. They had to come back out and repair that issue. The range has been working since they repaired it. Initially, it stopped working twice. Like I said, it's still working, so hopefully the outlet has truly been reattached to the floor. (8) There is already a cracked board in my hallway. I had told them about it, but the owner stated that this was normal for hardwood flooring. He offered to come out and repair the issue by filling it. I have spoken to some other people and they stated that this is not normal for brand new hardwood floors and that filling the crack would only be a temporary fix. I would like them to come out and replace the board. They always just came when it was convenient for them. They would call me the same day they wanted to come. There was one instance, I was supposed to be somewhere and I was getting ready to leave and they just showed up at my house. I waited for them to finish, but I was late for my appointment. I just feel like they have no respect for me or for my time.
Description of Work: They fixed floorboards in the kitchen that were cracked, they extended wood flooring into my hallway, and they installed ceramic tile in my laundry room and two bathrooms.

Response from Classic Carpet & Floor Covering
Please find attached a time line that lists the events that took place and how we had address each of the customer s concerns. First this complaint came as a huge shock based on us being unfamiliar to Angie’s list process and procedure. We have made effort to get in touch with a representative to address this issue and get educated. We did not receive this work through Angies list and not certain as to why this is even being part of Angies list dispute system. In regards to this complaint we had already under gone a complaint process through Synchrony Bank Credit. Member had tried to stop payment do to her same complaints and based on the findings and our explanation of the events that took place we were found compliant and payment was forward to us and found we were in good standing. (Attached is the complaint process time line provided to bank). Dispute: 1) Our installers did not put a hole in the wall. Wall was in bad shape due to excessive water damage. Hole was behind door near shower floor. We put new base on wall to help with hole and prevent others. 2) Toilet paper holder as member documented “ When she went to bath room it fell off” The toilet paper holder was not something we would have knocked off and based on our ratings on other social networks is not how we conduct business. 3) At no time during the entire complaint process with the member and the bank was there mention of issue with fireplace. First time we knew there was a fireplace was in this complaint and we never went near a fireplace in the rooms we installed flooring. 4) Sent installer on 11-7-14 to fix doors and as of 11-18-14 all items / concerns were completed. (See attached signature). 5) We had many conversations with the member and at no time was this ever addresses with us. I had talked to our installers and the owner at no time was this issue neither addressed with them nor brought to their attention. Even the complaint to the bank this issue was not provided by the member. Again on 11-18-14 her signature represents all work completed. 6) Carpet had to be stretch and tacked to the hardwood flooring. This is not a service our hardwood installer performs. We had another installer scheduled to do so. When he arrives to stretch and attach to hardwood he was concerned with stretching carpet to much due to the condition of the carpet. His concern was he may rip the carpet. He left it for our owner to look at before he did damage. We scheduled another install with more experience to fix the problem. However, due to an accident at the previous job our installer fell and was taken to hospital. We called member to let her know what happen and we would get someone there ASAP. Again as of 11-18-14 member was satisfied and all work was completed. 7) The cover to the socket where the stove was plugged in was not screwed in all the way and somehow the stove plug came out. We sent out our installer and they moved the stove and fixed her socket and cover properly so that plug couldn’t come out. This was definitely nothing we had done wrong seeing the oven has been working since August and the work we did back in October was nowhere near the stove. 8) The owner had gone over to look at this “Crack in the wood” and he explained that this is the type of wood she had picked which is called a “Character Floor” where knots and cracks are part of the look. Attached are pictures of the sample board in our show room that she picked her flooring from. The member is a single elderly woman that would come into the store just to talk and ask us her opinion on her décor and what would look best. She also brought in an old tea set that we helped her find places she could sell her products. We took a personal liking to her and spent quality time with her talking other than her flooring needs. All of the items she has disclosed as things we did wrong are things that just needed to be fixed do to condition of home. A lot of the items repaired were all out of good faith and trying to be a company that goes above and beyond to help out the elderly. Even after her attempt to not pay us and get a refund, even after her signature stating all items completed, even after her saying she will never use us again we still took her call on 12-8-14 and went out to help her. That’s the type of company we are. In conclusion I believe the only open issue left is the wood that she believes is a crack. We are willing to get our supplier to look at the flooring and if it is a warranty issue (actual defect in floor) we are willing to work with her to get it resolved. If flooring is found defective, we will work with supplier in getting new materials delivered and she can find and installer of her choosing to re-install. At this time based on the issues and problems we decline any further work in the home. This is not a productive working relationship on both ends and in the end want to have resolution for her.
