+ 0 moreVery Bad. They are Very Expensive, they Charge $90/hour labor on top of $80 flat fee to come to your house. Their typical markup on their material is 3 times the cost of the material. They did quote us $90/hr and I thought I will get very professional people who will come prepared to work, but they send people who were not professional and came unprepared to do the job, they were NOT interested in doing any work but wanted to make a list of things they need to do their job when you pay $90 per hour per person. BIGGEST ISSUE THEY CREATED the problems that didn't exist, they said my Patio door was only opening half, when it was fully functioning. I had to push them to do basic stuff as they were their just to burn 3-4 hours at my dime and come back again to work. In short not an Ethical Supplier, I will stay away from them

Description of Work: Just bought 75 year old home with many original Windows. Owner came out and assessed my windows, also talked me out of buying a new 1 that looked bad and suggested repair as a cost effective solution. He ordered parts, kept in touch and updated me while waiting for parts. Sent Terry out for the work and he was fabulous. He spent 6 hours replacing the side metal parts so my windows would slide up and down smoothly and not fall shut unexpectedly. He worked around me so I could scrape old paint and clean the outsides of the Windows before he put them back in place. So accommodating and pleasant. Also replaced hardware on a window that would crank open but not shut. Expensive to repair but he did have a lot of hours of labor in the job so I understand the cost. They even called in the morning to update me that Terry would be delayed. Top notch family owned company. |I feel like I have new Windows! Unbelievable.

Description of Work: My rating is really an A-. Only because I think they quoted a completion date too far in the future, considering what had to be done. It was a simple, single pane 21x24 window glass replacement. I brought the frame to their shop. And yet they quoted a full week lead time....and called for pickup six days later. I had a similar repair job done in big Rapids last summer, except the size was 48x24, and received it the same afternoon. | |Aside from that, their service was excellent and very professional. their price was okay, compatible with the Big Rapids repair ($38). I would use them again without hesitation.

+ -1 moreCalled for service, described issues, appointment was scheduled, we thought for service. Man arrived, not to do service, but to estimate job. Company could have been more clear about that. Man looked around, said he'd send an estimate. About a week passed, no estimate. We called back. Were told man was behind on paperwork. Estimate was sent promptly, and we approved. Work was scheduled. Crew arrived on time. Nice guys. Did the work. Two men spent about three hours. Seemed like a lot of time for what they had to do, but they also didn't seem to be wasting time. One fix on which one guy spent about 20 minutes didn't work. Whatever. Bill was over $600. $90 per man hour, plus materials. What got me was the $80 "service call" charge added on top of it. I did agree to it when I signed the proposal. I just think it is crazy. I would probably shop around next time for somebody a bit more reasonable. I just think $600 for mostly labor was way out of line for the skill level involved.

+ -1 moreThe re-leading has had to be postponed for a longer stretch of clement weather, since it involves removing the windows for 4-6 weeks, but the sash cord replacement was done neatly and accurately, with no collateral damage. I have only paid a portion of the cost so far, the rest is waiting until the completion date.

+ -1 moreI was given a repairman arrival window of 9-10am, and the repairman arrived at 9:15am. I always appreciate not getting a super long window of possible arrival time (e.g., 1-5pm)--and I appreciate it when people show up on time. The repairman, Jeff, was very polite and showed me the needed repairs on the window, helped me understand what the underlying issues were, etc. Each window took about 20 minutes of work. The repairs were pricey, but I had not shopped around to get other estimates, as it seemed fair, but I'm not an expert in what window repair should cost. My neighbor a few doors down used them for this same repair service on the same day. I will definitely use them again if I have other window issues.
Description of Work: I found this company based on Angie's List reviews, and was not disappointed. I needed them to work on 6 crank windows in my home that were no longer operating properly. They sent an estimator out, ordered parts, and then sent out a service professional within a few weeks to adjust the wooden window frames. All of the people I interacted with on the phone were polite and prompt.

+ -1 moreAlthough it took a while before the window panes came in we are very satisfied with their work. It certainly paid for me to continue to look for a company that could replace the panes of glass as opposed to replacing the complete windows.
Description of Work: We had 8 of our windows that had lost their seal. They were extremely cloudy with moisture running down the interior. We had hired another company earlier in the year to do the repair and when they came out to replace the windows they said they could not be done and we would have to actually replace the windows. I thought I would try Angie's list to find a company that dealt with window repair, explained the problems and had someone come out and give me an estimate. Tom who came out said these windows could be repaired and had done this type of work before. It took a while for the window panes to come in but we are very happy with the windows and relieved that we did not have to replace the complete window. The repairman Terry was very pleasant, neat and did a great job. One window came in wrong and it came in last week. Terry came out on an extremely cold day and quickly replaced the window. We were very happy with their work and price.

+ -1 moreI have basement windows and periodically you need to refabricate either a replacement screen or replacement window. It is very difficult to find someone to do custom window repair. It was my first time to use them. If you do not have standard windows, if you have a historical home, they are probably your best source to end up with a well-fitting replacement window or door. They will also make a recommendation if one is available as to how to increase the energy efficiency of whatever you are replacing. Because the older homes tend to have single-pane windows, they will recommend an appropriate kind of double-pane glass.
Description of Work: I used H & R Window Repair Company to fabricate my window. I took out the frame of a window and they made me a new one.

I called this company to have my window repaired and was told that someone would be at my home August 21, 2012 between 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm. + -1 moreThe Repair Team was prompt, clean, and efficient. The window repairs were made without any issues and my windows seem like new (even though they are over 20 years old). The service men cleaned up after themselves, answered my questions and validated that I was pleased with the final outcome. They also performed some repairs to my window locks and casings (making the windows easier to open/close/secure). The crew was friendly and and skilled. I will use them again and recommend their services for future window repairs.
Description of Work: The company sent out a Representative to my home to review the work request, measure the windows (as needed) and gather information for an estimate. The estimate was delivered to me approximately 1.5 weeks later. Once I reviewed the estimate, I mailed 1/2 of the total amount to secure the work request. Roughly 2 weeks later, the company called and stated the materials were in (and the Repair Team was available) and scheduled an appointment. The work request included repairing the seal on a large DR window, medium hallway window and installing three risors (replacing broken rods) on 3 separate windows.

+ 0 moreThe service man was wonderful, there really wasn't anything more he could have done to help us. It was obvious that even he didn't feel comfortable with the outlandish price of a service call. Don't have them come to your house unless the window is too big to take to the shop.
Description of Work: H & R does an excellent job of repairing windows, they are fast & accurate with drop off repairs. The service call if you need in house repair is terrible, for coming out it's $150.00 (as they say for the service truck). This does not include the repair. When I called the office I reported that the appliance in the window frame that holds the window was broken and if I could have gotten it out I would have taken it in. When the representative came out we were told because the vinyl window was old he would have to cut the frame to repair the appliance (no problem to us) but then you needed to start adding $60.00 for parts and a return to the shop and another return service call with the truck. The end price would have been more then a completely new window from Home Depot. In the end all he did was put two long screws in the bottom of the top half of the window so it can never be moved again (of course no more tilting out for cleaning). The end price was $150.00 for driving 2 blocks to my house to permanetly secure the top of the window with TWO SCREWS.

+ -1 moreUnfortunately, I have had to use them twice to repair damage caused by burglars. The first time, I took out a broken first floor window and took it to the shop and it was repaired immediately. The second time, I had them come to the home as it was a second floor window with frosted glass. The repairman took the boards off the window, repaired the glass to its original condition, and replaced the boards over the window securely. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly, and they are familiar with neighborhoods within the City of Detroit. Their responsiveness helped reduce my stress about the break-ins.
Description of Work: Repaired windows that had been broken by a burglar, also repaired the screen.

Description of Work: We have an old home (1920s) which has the non-standard measurements for windows so a simple "vinyl" replacement won't have worked. We were quoted for a complete rebuild of a bedroom window as well as several glass panes (vs an entire window) replaced. The craftmanship is excellent and when the panes / window was removed a replacement window was given so we lost no insulation during the hot summer days!! Highly recommend this company.

Description of Work: They replaced a window which was 3 feet by 8 feet with a new solid glass window, taking about 2 hours to complete the job. They took all the garbage and the old window away with them when they left.
