Description of Work: He came out and gave me a bid on plaster repair. He told me his services did not come cheap which was true. Ultimately, I went with another plaster repair company that was less expensive. What I like about Artistic Plastering is that he has a unique niche. He is capable of performing all sorts of custom plaster work. Fancy swirls, etc, not just fixing a crack. If it was that sort of work I needed, I would certainly use him. Also, he works with his wife (she took my call and made the arrangements) and she was a really nice woman.

Description of Work: Jim is a true craftsman. He obviously takes pride in his work and cares more about quality than making a quick buck. He did a great job matching textures to repair some existing walls and also reworked large ceilings with new texture. We're very pleased. I wouldn't hesitate to call Jim again.

 + 0 moreHe did a fabulous job creating a one of a kind ceiling in the living room that fits perfectly with our 1950s architecture. He repaired the wall that had been previously patched where a doorway had once been. The kitchen ceiling looks brand new. He covered several cracks and holes that were previously not well patched. We will definitely use him again. I already have the next project picked out.

 + -1 morebetter then I could have imagined. I will definitely keep Jim in mind if I need plaster repaired in the future. Jim did a very very good job. Jim had a few personal issues that came up during the job which caused the job to get done 1-2 weeks later then the initial estimated completion date. He did work late into the night to get the job done in then end. In the end Jim did a great job and I look forward to working with him If I have future plaster work that I need done. Overall Jim had great customer service and was able to beat the price of the competition by $1,000 dollars.
Description of Work: I recently purchased a home built in 1931 which had many plaster walls and ceilings that had water damage. Jim replastered the walls and ceilings in an entry way, bedroom, hallway, stairway, dining room, and living room. The dinning room and living room both had textured plaster and jim smoothed out the plaster on those walls and the end product was perfect. Jim also even did a custom plaster decorative border on the ceiling around BOTH the dining room and living room! The end product was wonderful

 + 0 moreMy 1928 house had a noticeable crack in the ceiling (3-4 feet long) which was getting worse, and some cracks in in the dining room and entry way/landing. Artistic came all the way from Hastings to East Lansing, gave me a quote, then came out & patched everything up. Plaster walls/ceilings are becoming increasingly rare & so it was nice to have a contractor who used the real thing & knew what to do. $1000 & change is a little on the pricey side, but given quality of work & materials still well worth it. A nice resource to have, I will use them again to handle inevitable repairs which come with an aging house.
Description of Work: Repaired cracks in plaster ceiling in dining room & living room & entry foyer/upstairs landing.

Description of Work: We had two rooms plastered. The rooms were in very bad shape (plaster). Jim has a fantastic work ethic. He had to tear old material out and prepare and even out walls and a ceiling in a home that is over 100 years old. He is a true artist. We are extremely pleased with the outcome and would highly recommend Jim. We would definitely have future work completed by Jim.

Description of Work: Extensive plaster repairs were carefully executed. Quality plaster (not Durabond) was used to restore walls to their former glory. Plastersmith carefully recreated the textured surfaces found in each room, and was facile plastering complex curved walls and coved ceilings.

 + -1 moreJim did an excellent job. He was extremely tidy. The final product was perfectly smooth plaster, which was perfectly integrated into our historic home. Jim was punctual, a great communicator, and easy to work with. We would hire him again in a second.
Description of Work: We had water damage to walls and ceilings in three rooms from ice dams. Jim removed all the old plaster, remove wet insulation, replaced insulation, and replastered.

Description of Work: Skin coated old plaster walls in 120 year old farm house. Ceiling was done over new plasterboard. Ceiling is absolutely perfect - not a dimple or rough spot anywhere. Walls were not flat and even to begin with, but plaster coat came out a bit off in the corners. Overall, I'm happy with the results - looks like it will last another 100 years.

 + -1 moreHe took down the plaster ceiling and the cement board underneath it ,which was making the ceiling sag and crack.. He put up a plasterboard ceiling and plastered over it. He not only painted the ceiling but the entire room as well. He did an excellent job, only took two days. He helped us move our furniture out and back in. His price was very reasonable compared to other estimates. He even hung a wooden plaque on our cement wall for us and brought us some cherry tomatoes from his garden. We were very pleased with his work.

 + -1 moreJim called time arranged and updated and he came today. I have a plaster living room ceiling that cracked when the roof was replaced a few years ago. He repaired the cracks around the ceiling/wall area and re did the ceiling and made it look much better and it will enhance the ceiling fan when it is put in. He is a true artist. He drove over from Hastings and was here all day and I felt his fee was not enough for the work done so I increased it to a more fair fee for the services provided. Not only did he cover the walls and carpet but vacuumed when done. Said he would be at my house by 10 but did not arrive until 10:20 and helped move the last of the furniture from the living room
