Love how everything turned out! Gary and crew did a marvelous job. The added crown molding and arch over window gave the kitchen a whole new feel. The cabinets were the old pickled finish oak. I wanted them white. Gary sprayed the doors and drawer fronts and painted the cabinets. They look wonderful! Added bronzed hardware. In the living room, hall, and half bath, Gary replaced the pickle wood window trim and baseboards with wider white trim. Again a great job. Very tight mitered corners. Gary and crew were extremely prompt. They were very professional. We had to leave out-of-state while they were working. I felt comfortable leaving them to come and go as they needed. Cleaned up everything when they were done. Gary is a man of integrity. I will definitely use GC Contracting again. I already have some plans in mind for our next project!
Description of Work: Added crown molding and painted existing kitchen cabinets. Added hardware to cabinets. Also replaced, caulked, and painted door and window trim and baseboards with larger molding.

Gary kindly met with me and we discussed the need to add ten missing storm windows to a house built in 1853. SInce the house is used as an historical museum, the storms needed to be custom built to match the original windows which are no longer plumb, nor in great shape. Although this is not Gary's main expertise, he offered to help me get the job properly done at a minimal cost for materials. Unfortunately Gary had two successive accidents - a fall from a ladder that hurt his back and another fall that left him with a debilitating concussion. He remains positive and promises to have the storm windows completed, though they will now be made under his supervision and not personally. He is optimistic and a dedicated man who holds true to his word.
Description of Work: Gary met with me and returned to measure the windows. He has responded promptly to all my emails and will finish the project when his health permits.

Gary and Jim were punctual and got to my house right at 9a.m. Jim fought with the back door and eventually won, getting it to close and lock properly. They also redid the trim around that door. They weren't sure if they were going to need to get scaffolding for the higher skylight or not but they made it work with just a ladder, saving time and money. They were very polite and friendly the whole time they were there. They even finished about an hour earlier than anticipated. Would definitely use again in the future.
Description of Work: Realigned back door, made sure it was straight and locked properly (it was a mess before). Trimmed out two skylights, one of which was above my entryway stairwell and not easily accessible.

I had a Big Deal coupon for 2 hours of general carpentry. It went fine and I was pleased with the results. I think I paid them an additional $329 because there was a 2 hours additional work. He was very competent, personable and efficient. The workmanship and conduct of the craft people that came out was really good and efficient. As for their responsiveness I had some issues with the last minute rescheduling a couple of times. I understand but it was a little inconvenient.

It took a couple of weeks to schedule an appointment with Gary. However once the appointment was scheduled he was prompt and kept the appointment. We discussed a couple of shelving options and selected one. Gary made the shelving at his place and brought it over to be installed. He also provided a receipt for the supplies he purchased for the project. I am happy with his quality of work. I used the Big Deal offered by the provider so the price worked out well for me.

Gary appeared on time and we discussed the job and he made suggestions on how the gate should be constructed. We agreed on the materials to be used, the length of time and the cost of the project. He was aware of what I needed and the fact I was not too smart when it came to carpentry work. He really could have taken advantage of me, but he did not. He did the work quickly and efficiently and cleaned up when he was finished. He is thoroughly professional and honest and I would give him my HIGHEST recommendation should anyone ask.

The boss came and looked over what we needed to have done and determined that 1 person could do it. When the workman showed up, the boss showed him what would be covered for us and he left him to it. He was very pleasant and did the work completely. We are very happy with the finished product.
Description of Work: He hung 2 pictures for us. One was over the fireplace so he had to drill into the mortar. We also had a cabinet that we had bought to fill in an open space in a pantry. It needed to be shortened and attached and have some molding placed to cover an empty space. We were also having problems with a door closing and he fixed the copper weather stripping so it closes now.

I bought this coupon from Angies list quite sometime ago in Feb 2013. It had been very difficult to get hold of some one at GC contracting to schedule an initial appointment. After calling and leaving messages for a number of times I received a call back from Gary, who agreed to come and fix the pocket doors that needed new tracks. After the initial meeting he promised to come back the following week, asked me to purchase the tracks and left. After that he communicated through mail that he will not be able to schedule anything for the following weeks, siting his busy schedule, which is fine, atleast he is scheduling. He finally gave me a date for Apr 15, at 4 PM and never showed up. I understand that he might be busy, but he needs to value my time too, its not free and I work. I mailed him again to re schedule but never got a reply back. I always trusted Angies deals, but after what happened with this experience I think I will think twice before buying deals again.

Gary repaired a crooked door frame in our house. He came about a week before to look at the job and give us a quote. He completed the job the following week. I took advantage of the " Big Deal" of two hours of carpentry recently offered by GC Contracting Co. Initially, Gary Cole ( "GC" in the company's name) and I had a little difficulty setting up an appointment for him to come out to my house, but that was as much my fault as his. Once we did schedule the appointment, Gary arrived when scheduled. After spending some time assessing the cabinets and discussing their intended new use and new location with me, he handled the project from start to finish well within the allotted time. I'm pleased with the job he did, and happily would use his company again for other contracting jobs.
Description of Work: I needed carpentry work to turn three cabinets positioned side by side next to each other over a single base into a tall cabinet comprised of the same three cabinets stacked one on top of the other, with a base one-third the size but strong enough to support all three. The work also involved unloading all the cabinets' contents so they could be worked on, constructing and using shims and another device to stabilize the cabinets and anchor the top one to studs in the wall, assembling them in their new configuration and location, replacing the contents previously moved out of them, and removing any created debris.

We explained to customer we do not do plumbing or electrical and we would furnish her one of our subs. The big deal should not have advertised plumbing and electrical in the big deal price. She had plumbing problems that we could not help her with. She did use the plumber we referred her to. We do not do work we are not licensed to do it is against the law. If a contractor tells you he can do electrical and plumbing as well as carpentry in our opinion you should run from them.

Needed someone to pick up the slack from a 1/2 done bath remodel project where original contractor walked off due to health issues. Work included redoing a bath tile surround where the prior contractor had messed up, prep/paint/install wainscot with chair rail/base molding, construct a 6' vanity and tall/skinny side cabinet, and window/door trim fabrication. Also needed built in drawer system constructed/installed. GC was quick to respond and get out here. The bid took longer than indicated (over 2 weeks - 1 week promised), but Thanksgiving was in there so that was probably part of the delay.. GC was very professional and knowledgeable during the initial walk-through. Both my wife and i were impressed with his presentation and knowledge. Probably would have used him but for the following. 1) He did not include paint in the bid. 2) He was "unable" to quote the tile work (remove/replace 3 wall surround with subway tile) except to say that he would charge hourly and materials were not included in his bid. For what he did quote (cabinet build/install, all carpentry/trim work including built-in drawer set), the total ($11,317) was slightly higher than 2 of my 3 other bids (which included tile R&R work/materials). I ended paying $10,200 for all the work including tile and paint. Would recommend to others. price wasn't that far off, but i wanted one contractor for everything since i was sick of this project and just wanted it done ASAP.

We were trying to do jobs in a area together. I tried to explain that it is not profitable at all to drive 100 miles round trip for 2 hours of discounted labor. I did not tell this gentleman we did not get enough deals. I feel that Big Deal purchasers should be aware of service providers net on a big deal. If a customer buys a $75 big deal Angies list takes 40% of that. So for us to drive 100 miles round trip and perform 2 hours labor for 45 is a losing proposition. We try to do as many in one area as possible

no moisture would ever damage the frame. I am thrilled with the outcome and already plan to have them back to do my front entryway. I could not have asked for better service. He really worked with me to make sure he fully understood the idea I had in my head.
Description of Work: I have a very large glass block window at the top of my stairs. I had removed the marble window sill and the moldings around the soffet of the window when I painted the stairwell. I wanted to frame the window in a way that would show it off. I found pictures on-line of art deco style furniture that had inlay and sent him the pictures. Together we designed an absolutely stunning treatment that was just installed today. The inlay is a bright blonde maple color set into deep brown mahogany. The sill looks more like a mantle than a windowsill. This is a very old home and so the window itself is not square. He figured out a way to build the frame so that it sits inside the window soffet and makes the whole thing square. Weather stripping was also used to insulate and keep the wood off of the glass so that

I contacted Gary a couple of months prior to the work actually being done. Turns out he had a medical issue that required some down time, but during that time he stayed in contact with me, letting me know when my work could be done. It was getting close to the holidays and I had a couple of parties planned so I was getting a bit nervous. No need to worry though...Gary worked long, hard hours, (along with Jim) and had everything completed with time to spare! VERY professional, and a perfectionist too! Can't wait to get started onmy next projects which will include making cabinet doors for a built-in and finishing the interior of a 3 season room.
Description of Work: Gray made a custom fireplace mantle and surround for my living room. My house was built in 1950 and my fireplace isn't a "standard/regular" size, so buying a prebuilt or kit surround wasn't possible. What a blessing that turned out to be. Now I have a stately fireplace surround that is the focal point of the room and looks like it was built with the house. Gary also primed and painted this piece of furniture. In addition, his employee, Jim, did a fantastic job hanging crown molding in an upstairs room that has more twists and turns than you can imagine. Gary and Jim worked together to design a way to use the materials I had already purchased, along with some of theirs, to add some class to an otherwise boaring room. He'll be doing more work for me in the next couple of months....you'll be more than happy with anything that Gary does for you!

Spoke to contractor and advised what I needed. Minor drywall repair, install some safety grab bars and if time permitted repair door handle. I was advised that upon completing purchase of grab bars, I should contact contractor to complete requested installation. On January 10 I advised contractors I had purchase all of the required materials and I would await his response to schedule a day to do the work. I advised via email there was no urgency attached to work order. After not hearing back from contractor for two weeks, I contacted contractor by voicemail and on Tuesday 01/29/2013 I received a voice mail indicating contractor would be available to do requested work on Wednesday mid-morning. After not hearing from contractor by early afternoon, I called him and he advised he had run into some difficulty on another job and wouldn't be able to come do work until closer to 4pm or 5pm. Shortly thereafter, contractor called and indicated he was tied up on another job until at least 8pm and thus would need to reschedule our job for 10am on Thursday 1/31/13. On 1/31/13 contractor arrived at residence at 9:00am, installed a couple grab bars and than indicated he was unable to do the dry wall repair and was also unable to install the safety grab bar in the master bath shower. Gary Croney advised me to call Angie's List and secure a refund of the $75 coupon. The work he had performed to that point would be gratis due to his inability to complete the requested labor and the inconvenience we experience due to his inability to keep his appointment on 1/30/13.
Description of Work: Unable to perform requested labor due to type of work and lack of tools to perform requested tasks.

scope of work I was told that had to be done was much more in reality, it would have took much more time than customer had bought. Sometimes people think that you can just pull up in driveway and magically make things they want done in the time they want it done in. Customer got hour of free labor. These situations arise from time to time and we do the best we can do accomidate customers

I have to say that I don't spend too much time reviewing services, quite honestly I only invest time to praise good companies. Service orientation is a rarity these days and this company really understands the concept. Communication, coordination and follow up are immaculate. Promptness and attention to detail are extraordinary, verification of customer satisfaction is also outstanding. Value is really good and quality of services is excellent. For a company in this segment these factors are key for successful customer retention and growth. Thank you and good luck.
