It was great. It was perfect, it worked out very nicely. There is no complaint about it. They did a good job. They did exactly what they said they were going to do. The price was okay, it was not a great deal. It was reasonable. He called right away when I bought it. He called and said, "Give me a call when you need it." He came when he said he was going to come. His communication was good, there was no issue with that.
Description of Work: I purchased a big deal for GC Contracting Co. for $55. Some kitchen cupboards were a little bit bigger than I needed, so they had to come and fix it. They also did the railing.

Did not see eye to eye is a understatement. Customer went behind our back with employ that is no longer working for us to do work at another rate. I was not able to perform work due to back surgery at the time. I believe integrity is sorely lacking these days with some people. Employee that did work shocked us by doing that and frankly so did customer

How'd it go? We want all the details. Examples Dos and Don'ts No work was done.
Description of Work: I called to set up an appointment to get an estimate for the work I wanted done. The guy was quick to come out to view the job, within a couple of days, and informed me that I would receive an estimate via e-mail in about 2 days. I never heard from them again!! Not very professional at all. If they did not want the job, the polite and professional person would have told me so.

i am still waiting for my $150. refund
Description of Work: this provider offered the $75 deal for 2 hours carpentry service, i purchases two. when i attempted to schedule the service i called the provider and explained to him what service i needed. he first told me that the company no longer services Detroit. i informed him that i had purchased the Angie's list offer.he then said that he would "of course", honor that offer and asked me to send him a picture of the doors i wanted installed. i sent the email (with pictures) and did not hear back from him. i emailed again and asked him to please respond. he emailed back and said no one wanted to come to Detroit. i assumed i would hear back from him in reference to my refund since the company reneged but i never did. i did however receive a call from an Angie's list Representative regarding a different survey i submitted and told my story regarding this company to the representative.I don't know if he did anything with the information i gave him but to date, i am still waiting for my refund.

I built a bay window including installing the windows and building the support structure. However, after doing this I found it was very difficult to create the finish trimming due to the requirement for so many careful and correct mitered cuts. Gary at GC Contracting was able to finish the bay window with elegant and perfectly fitting beveled cuts in the wood and trim. The window is now a focal point of the house, definitely adding aesthetic value and surely adding significant monetary value, as well. Gary was very professional, courteous, and prompt in providing his excellent carpentry work to finish our bay window. We highly recommend him!

After a little back and forth we were able to find a time he could come out and give me an estimate. He arrived on time and was very polite and professional. However, after discussing the project and looking at the space, taking a few measurements, he gave me a verbal estimate that was outrageous for the job. (4 to 6 times higher than others) I am not sure if he just didn't want to do the job or what, but I never got a written estimate. If I had received a written estimate, I might have been able to see why he thought it was going to be so expensive, and continued the discussion, but he never sent one. Instead I hired someone who handled the job promptly, professionally and now I have a beautiful new floor.

Gary from GC was very professional and communicated well throughout the project. (This is one of the hardest things to find today when looking for contractors to perform projects) Gary pulled together different people from different companies to produce a great final project(s). They first started on my tongue and groove ceiling and that took a week due to the very complicated compound cuts as well as all the final details required. The goal was to create a ceiling that did not require moldings to cover the joints, so that meant that precision in the cuts and installation were important. It looks great and was done for what I figured was a very fair price. The second job was in creating new cabinets, shelving unit and benches for my mud room. Gary brought in a cabinet company that he works very close with and together we laid out the project and finalized the details. We reviewed a cad drawing of the room and cabinets and made the adjustments and approvals prior to fabrication. The fabrication went well and was of high quality. The installation also went very well and was of high quality. I would trust GC to do any kind of cabinetry and custom word work in the future. They also did this for a fair and reasonable price. The third project was installing a new railing, post and framework for a basement stairway. I had opened up a side wall and GC measured, cut and installed a new railing for that area. The work included some detail work to hide a drain line inside the structure of the railing. This worked out great and looks even better. Again it was done for a very fair price. Altogether, GC contracting did a great job at a good price. I feel that I definitely got what I paid for (and maybe a little extra). It was refreshing to deal with someone who is professional and returns my calls, texts and emails. As always, things take longer than expected so be prepared with a proper timeline in mind. I didn't mind that the things took a little longer with GC because it was fully communicated and agreed upon in advance. Thanks to Gary and his crew for a great job! I would recommend them for this type of work.
Description of Work: Provided finished carpentry and installation of tongue and groove ceiling in a screened in porch, it included very detailed compound cuts and details. They also provided design, fabrication and installation of mud room cabinetry including base, seating, shelves and cabinets. They matched a design that I currently had. The construction of the cabinets were of high quality and the installation was top notch. They also installed a custom railing for a basement stairway that included some special details to hide plumbing.

I took responsibility for removing most of the casing and trim before Gary started. This was a time saver for him and money savings for us. Many people might not be willing or able, but I'm handy and I enjoyed it. Gary started with the window and door casings in the living/dining area. We had selected the mill work. We had a hard time finding a profile that worked for our California ranch style. I mention this because after Gary did that first room, we changed our minds about the trim we had selected. We had Gary tear it down. It was a good sign that he didn't challenge us. He showed us that he could make custom casings out of flat poplar boards. This was a major change of scope, but it was exactly the look we were after. We do not have a deadline, so were able to "go with the flow". I bought and hauled lumber as needed. Gary had other jobs going, and we were okay with that. Scheduling was a bit tricky. He prefers to communicate by email. His craftsmanship is superb. He has good ideas, and if we had a better idea , he had the skill to make it happen and the grace to go along. The doors we chose have an etched horizontal line every foot and he worked hard to line up the horizon along each door in the hallway. He is amazing at fitting doors into frames that are out of plumb. He is very accommodating about our sometimes picky and detailed requests, and he doesn't take it as criticism, he just makes it happen. He is nice company and we trusted him in our house when we were at work and were out of town for a few days. This is still a work in progress, but we are coming down the home stretch. He gave us a great flat rate for the first full week of work, and then went to a very reasonable hourly rate after that. He is very mindful of not charging for breaks, lunch, etc. Gary is also an incredible cabinet maker and we are thinking about having him update our kitchen cabinets as well as making a buffet for our dining room. We recommend him without hesitation and we are looking forward to using him for other projects in the future.
Description of Work: We had Gary Croney (GC Contracting) replace almost all of the window and door casings, floor base and shoe trim in our small ranch house. He replaced 5 pocket doors, one of which needed a new track. He remodeled our coat closet with a taller door and built a storage unit for the closet. He replaced the door on a small linen closet. He is replacing two kitchen pantry doors and a small bathroom pantry door.

The project went very well. We have a 20x20 Great room and had alot of trim work done to give it a finished look. The entry to the kitchen is large and he trimmed it nicely so that it looked liked it was always part of the house. Gary planned the project well and came up with a design that worked for the height of the walls. We absolutely love it. We plan to have Gray plan and do our Kitchen remodel.

It has been a nightmare. I have been trying since this past winter to get this man to complete the job, which consisted of three very small items. There have been over 20 emails sent back and forth attempting to get him to do the work. I asked him to fix a nail pop. Not only did he not fix it, but he made it much, much worse. There was a very small piece of wood beneath one of my sidelights that had been inexpertly repaired and I asked him to fix it. That too was made much worse. The repair of the closet door was not done at all at his first appointment because he spent so much time chatting and telling me what a fine, honest, christian man he was. I finally got him to return the first week of August. He worked on the wood beneath my sidelight. I so wish I had just left it alone. After "repairing" it twice, it is worse than before he touched it. He started work on the nail pop. The mud he applied needed to dry. He said he would be in my area two weeks later and would come over then and finish the job. Well, here it is a month later and I have not heard a word from him. I was aware that when I went on Angie's list and selected a company that other members had rated that I was taking my chances and hoping for the best. However, I apparently incorrectly, assumed that those companies that were eligible for the Big Deals had been vetted by Angie's List. Honestly, I would like my money back. I need to hire someone to fix the things that this man "fixed" over a month ago. I am furious and fed up!
Description of Work: This was one of the Big Deals that I purchased. These are the small handyman jobs that I asked be done: fix a nail pop, repair a very small piece of wood beneath one of my sidelights, and repair damage to a closet door that was done by another handyman. Very, very small jobs.

We were definitely happy with the work that was provided. We had a scheduling issue, as well as a communication issue at the beginning of our contact with them. We expected them to show up on Saturday to look at the work we needed done and tell us approximately how long it would take/scope of work/etc. They never showed up, however, they still came to complete the work later that week. Since they didn't show up for the previous meeting, there was disappointment on our end because we couldn't have exactly what we wanted to be done completed. It would have taken too long. So we ended up having them do something else while they were already there. They did a great job on the work itself. We would use them again, but just make sure that we were more clear on scope of work, price, and time involved.
