HANCOCK CHIMNEY SERVICE

We knew we needed a chimney cap and suspected the flashing was not done correctly on our new masonry fireplace. I called another chimney place first. They came out three times and the cap never fit. I told them never mind and called Hancock Chimney. They arrived at the appointment time with Hancock Shirts. They introduced themselves and got to work. After measuring for the cap size, they showed me a video of what my chimney looked like up there. Indeed the flashing was not done correctly. They said they would be back 2 weeks later when the cap was built. 2 weeks later an appt was made. Again they arrived at the appointed time and got right to work. The cap was installed and the flashing repaired. Then they went the extra step to finish the flashing in a way that is beautiful and exceed our expectations. It was on a super hot day as well. They cleaned everything up and left within the time table they gave. It was a pleasure to work with them.

The estimate cost me $165 upfront and came out at $2335 unless I wanted a deluxe service, and then it would be $3335. I didn't like the idea of paying for the estimate, and ended up having the work done to my great satisfaction for half the price by another company on Angie's List.

We selected Hancock based on their reputation in the area. Our chimney had a strong odor, days after a fire (i.e., stack house effect). The chimney had previously been cleaned, so we were in need of other solutions. Hancock came over for a chimney inspection and recommended a top-sealing damper. The top-sealing damper was going to fix our issue. As part of the chimney inspection we were supposed to receive pictures from the camera used - these pictures never arrived. This is despite our multitude of requests. The top-sealing damper was installed, without a change in the smell. When the top-sealer was installed, we were told if it did not help, we could have it removed. I recently called, about this and was told that was not true, and I should not have been told that. We were given additional options to abate the smell, none of which were sure to fix our issue. When we questioned the recommendations, we were rebuffed and eventually ignored. We are very disappointed in the general follow-through portrayed by this organization. We've since moved on to other more reliable companies in the area.

They were very expensive. His punctuality and professionalism were good. It was really just the price that was the problem.

They were fabulous. Another company recommended them. The fire department came out when the fire began. Hancock Chimney Service worked with our insurance. They cleaned up themselves. There is nothing I can complain out. The insurance covered it. They did quality work and the chimney was realigned. I give them high ratings and will use them again if needed.

Prompt contact. We made other arrangements for the repair on our end, not because of anything Hancock did or didn't do.

We recently moved into this house, and during our home inspection we were told to have the fireplace cleaned out (chimney). We fired up the gas fireplace a few times, but set off the smoke detectors so we decided to have it cleaned without looking around much or doing any research online about the fireplace. The gentlemen showed up on time and were very professional. He told me that it was a ventless fireplace, so no chimney or external venting, so nothing to clean. They did an inspection of it and the outside air intake, just to be sure. He thinks that the smoke detectors may be going off since it could be burning off animal hair (the previous owners had a dog) or just dirt, but that after burning it for a while, that it should stop. So, I felt really dumb but never once did they make me feel this way, which is impressive. He said he can't even count how many times people have told him that their home inspector told them to clean the chimney/fireplace when it didn't even have one with a chimney. He did let us know that the chimney piping that is on the outside of the house, is top of the line, and that if we should consider to install a wood burning stove in our basement, we wouldn't have to do anything but install it. He also told us what size to buy, etc. which is very helpful.

I should have had them park in back because they made may trips to the basemant and it would have saved them lots of steps to go through the back door instead of the front...sorry I didn't think of it till they were done.

They did fine. Came to give me an estimate at the time they said they would. Scheduled the service and did the job. They did what they said they would when they said they'd do it and for a reasonable price. They seem to know what they were doing and to do a good job. Very professional. Even knocked out a wasp nest way up in the eaves that my pest man could never reach. I'd recommend them.

I was not impressed. Not only did they tell me that I had to have my chimney completely rebuilt with a steel liner, they were pushy in wanting to get me to sign up that day. The quote I was given was outrageously high as well.

They showed up when they said they would and when it rained they called ahead of time to indicate they would not be working. Our chimney is probably over 50 years old and they managed to find bricks that were a close match to the old ones. They also did a good job of cleaning up after themselves.

They are very prompt. They tell you if you have problems, they are very clean for what they have to do.

Excellent. Servicemen were punctual, professional and knowledgeable. They spent a considerable amount of time explaining what services were being performed and how chimney systems work (we have an older home and I am a new homeowner). Additionally, they suggested and explained code compliance upgrades needed (which several other servicemen for furnace, water heater and plumbing systems confirmed were accurate and needed.) While they offered to complete such upgrades, they encouraged price-comparison with other vendors (we are ultimately having them do the work.) Finally, they were extremely sensitive while removing multiple animal carcasses from our chimney. I was very squeamish and nauseated by the whole thing and they could not have been more understanding and discreet. I received a lovely follow-up call when the weather permitted the additional work to be done which saved me time and energy - always appreciated.

The two-man cleaning crew arrived as scheduled and worked quickly, completing the job in around 30 minutes. They were neat, professional and cleaned up the area nicely. A gap was found between tiles in the chimney, but could not be repaired on the spot because the equipment needed was not on hand, as the serviceman said it normally was. Another appointment was scheduled, and at the lower price it would have cost if it could have been completed on the first visit.

I had to call to change the time for the appointment. They changed it immediately and cheerfully. They arrived on time. They placed drop cloth to be sure not to leave a mess. The job was done very quickly and professionally. They cleaned everything.

I was very pleased with the work that he did. It was dirty! He cleaned it out and the house for some reason just smelled so much better. He did get the area kind of dirty, but cleaned up very well afterwards. He had his own towels and cleaning supplies, so he did not get anything of mine dirty, which I thought was nice. I will be using him next time as well.

The work was efficient and great effort was put into performing a dirty job in a very clean manner.

HANCOCK CHIMNEY REPAIR DIDN'T DO THE BEST JOB ON OUR CHIMNEY, BECAUSE ABOUT 2 WEEKS AFTER THE REPAIR, IT STARTED TO LEAK AGAIN. THEY DID AN OK JOB, BUT I FEEL THEY NEED TO HAVE BETTER EXPERIENCE ON THE TYPE OF SERVICES THEY PROVIDE.

THEY KEPT THE AREA CLEAN AND NEAT WHILE THEY WERE WORKING. THE GUYS WERE VERY RESPECTFUL OF MY HOME. THEY SHOWED UP ON TIME FOR THE JOB. THEY PUT EVERYTHING BACK ON THE FIREPLACE WHEN THEY WERE DONE.
