Everything went very well...Came out to look at what needed to be done, explained everything fully and he and a couple of workers did the job in two days..first day it was kind of rainy..very pleased with the job and recommended him to a neighbor. Would recommend him to all....

We moved into a new home with a wood burning fireplace in July. The home had been vacant for over a year. I contacted Andrew after reviewing the feedback of others on Angie's list. It took a few tries to reach him, but upon doing so, I was very impressed with his professionalism. He indicated that there would not be a trip charge (something you rarely hear from contractors today) and would only bill me if work was done. He stopped by on the same day we spoke. When he arrived, my wife indicated that he was friendly, respectful (put covers on his shoes before entering the house), checked the chimney from the roof top and from inside, and even showed her how to operate the flue and used a mirror to show her that the chimney was clear. He indicated that it did not require servicing at this time, and as originally noted, there was no charge for the inspection. He also provided instructions on the types of wood that would burn cleanest, and how to determine timing for the next inspectioin and cleaning. Lastly, he offered suggestions on where we might find accessories. We were very pleased and will definitely use Andrew for our future chimney servicing.

Slow coming out for an estimate and providing a written quote afterwards (because of the volume of business, as well as truck and phone problems), but the work was great! I got estimates from about 5 other companies to replace the cracked crown on my double stone gas/wood-burning chimney. Andrew seemed to be the most knowledgeable of all and the most thorough in assessing the problem. He was the only one who wanted to see the fireplaces inside to get a full understanding of the situation. In doing so, he pointed out that one of my dampers was stuck shut and that my gas logs were arranged incorrectly. While Andrew was most knowledgeable of all companies, his price was one of the lowest. I hired Andrew because of (1) his reputation on Angie's List, (2) the recommendation of Belden Brick and (3) price. Work was performed about 2 weeks after signed contract and deposit were sent to Andrew. He and 2 workers arrived just after 8 AM on a Thursday and by noon, were finished removing and reforming the new crown, fixing the damper and rearranging the logs. The next morning, they removed the forms and scaffolding and cleaned up, which took almost an hour. I felt lucky to have had Andrew do the work. I'm confident that the work was done right, that the one fireplace with the stuck damper will now be safe to use and that I didn't get ripped off.

Great job. Clean, efficient and precise. They did exactly what they promised. Job was even bigger than originally estimated but they did not change the price, he honored his estimate. Honest, reliable and quality work. Comes highly recommended by Belden Brick and other contractors.

Andrew was awesome! He is very knowledgeable about all aspects of chimney work! He knows the right way to repair chimneys and took time to explain what he would do to repair our chimney. He also discovered a crack in our flue and was very helpful when we had to file a claim with our homeowners insurance. To start, we called Andrew because our chimney was in bad shape. It had cracks in it and the faces of the brick were popping off. We thought the whole chimney would need replacing because the brick was discontinued. Andrew searched and found brick that matched our chimney and saved us alot of money. Instead of replacing the whole chimney he only had to replace the top half. He put on a new cap top with a drip edge that wouldn't let water run down the brick. For extra protection he mortared the whole chimney so the mortar was flush with the brick. That way, water couldn't settle in between the brick faces, freeze, and pop the faces off again. The results look great and I'm sure the chimney will last.

I made to attempts to contact the provider. I left a voice message and received no return call. I waited a week and sent an email and received not response. I am moving in a new direction.

Andrew's free quote was about half what another company on Angie's list was, and the other company had charged me $165 for the privilege of not doing business with them. Andrew is personable, fair, professional and reliable. He had to work around the heavy rains that hit that week, and finished the job in two days. He was able to reuse the original brick from the top row on the chimney to replace bricks that were damaged on the main chimney, so the old brick matched perfectly. The chimney looks great.

I called Andrew because of what I read on Angie's list. i moved into a house with a wood burning fireplace , one that is supposed to heat the house. It has not been used for a year and a half and I was pretty sure it had never been inspected. I sent Andrew an email and he called in a day and came a day later after we arranged a time. He inspected the fireplace and the chimney, even going up on the roof and gave us a lot of information about our fireplace. and did not charge us a dime. I offered to pay some type of inspection fee but he declined. He appears to be very knowledgeable, at least more that I am.

I called Andrew at the beginning of Dec. to give me an estimate on cleaning my chimney. Andrew stopped over promptly and assured me that my chimney was clean enough to have another good burning season before it needed to be cleaned. He also told me at that time about a repair I needed which he also felt could be postponed until spring. Very honest, good communicator, and reliable. I'll be using him this spring.

Very prompt service and reasonable rates, he showed pictures of the inside of the damaged pipe before and after repair.

The Chimney Specialist was a bit on the higher end of cost but really did a great job. We are very happy with the results and the craftsmanship is impressive. They even took time to explain how the new chimney shape / design would manage better in our Michigan weather!

I called Chimney Specialists based on reviews by other members. We have owned our home for 7 years and had no idea of whether the previous owner had ever swept the chimney. Andrew drove from Grand Rapids to Grand Haven, arrived when he said he would, and immediately climbed up to the roof. He said he had to inspect from the inside due to the construction of the chimney. When I told him we had to leave right away to go to the airport, Andrew said it would not take him long. As promised, within a few minutes he told us the chimney was in fine shape and didn't even need to be swept. I tried to pay him for his time, but he refused to accept any money, saying he didn't charge anyone else so how could he charge me. On the way out, he advised me about a product that would help keep creosote down (not one of those Home Depot logs), and also a rule of thumb about frequency of cleaning based on cords and type of wood. I am 100% satisfied with his service, and told him when we need a cleaning he will be the one to do it. Based on my experience, I happily recommend Chimney Specialist to any member needing a chimney serviced!

I called earlier in the week and left a message with the address of my house and the service requested. He called me back about 45 minutes later from outside the house. He had already looked at the chimney and quoted the price for the stainless steel screen and canopy. He was available to come out on the date requested, so I scheduled him for that date. He arrived and completed the installation quickly. He gave me the warranty to mail in, and stated that if I have any problems to contact him directly. it was one of the simplest processes I have ever gone through for a home service.

I emailed the company at 12:40, and the repair was finished by 2pm. The email was returned by both email and a phone call within 20 minutes. He was quick, polite, and gave me a good idea of what was going on. I will definitely use this company again for all of our chimney concerns.

DISCOVERED PIECES OF CEMENT IN THE YARD, FOUND WHERE THEY WERE COMING FROM, CALLED YOU, CALLED CHIMNEY SPECIALIST, THEY RETURNED MY CALL WITHIN THE HOUR , CAME LATER THAT DAY TO LOOK AT IT. CALLED WITH ESTIMATE SAME DAY. GAVE ME A TIME, WITH MY O K THEY WERE HERE THE NEXT DAY. REPAIR FINISHED, MESS CLEANED, FRIENDLY WORKERS. I AM VERY SATISFIED WITH A JOB WELL DONE I WOULD RECOMMEND THE, AND WOULD CONTACT THEM IF NEEDED IN THE FUTURE.

I called Andrew on Saturday the and we setup an appointment for the following Monday at 11am. He told me on the phone that he would only charge me if the chimney needed sweeping or repairs. He arrived 15 minutes early and within 10 minutes he had inspected our chimney, confirmed that it was in good shape and didn't need sweeping, and was on his way. Great experience all the way around...I've already recommended him to two of my friends.

What great service for not technically having a service provided! I gave the owner a call asking him questions about cleaning my chimney and he said he would swing by and see if we even needed a cleaning. Within 10 minutes he was at my house, took a look at the fireplace/chimney, and told me that I didn't need a cleaning. He also adjusted my damper door so it would let as much air through. This at no charge at all. I will definitely call him again.

he did reply to my email, said he might call but never did...how is that professional?

The work took a week to finish. The brick on my chimney isn't made anymore, so Andrew brought samples of brick that was close to the color of the brick on my chimney for aproval before he used them. Very professional

I chose this company based solely on it's Angie's List rating. I was trying to get an estimate on some extensive chimney repairs but ended up playing phone tag instead. 8/24/11 was the last time I left a message and I have yet to recieve a call back. This guy may do excellent work but if I can't even trust him to return phone calls I will look elsewhere.

He tore down the old chimney and re-built a new one in great time despite the hot weather.

Estimate: When the Chimney Specialist first came to give an estimate for unclogging a plugged chimney flue, he was informative, explaining how chimneys work, how chimney fires happen, and how he would fix the chimney; he also gave me what seemed to be a reasonable cost for a potentially tricky job. The chimney from the wood furnace in the basement was absolutely blocked. The question was - could he fix it with without tearing off the stone from the fireplace in the living room on the first floor? Work: When he came to work on the chimney which went to a wood furnace in the basement, he first checked the second chimney which went to a first-floor wood burning unit. It was a good thing he did because that flue had cracked over the winter. So the job became more tricky. At that point he had to figure out how to break out both flues, then put one kind of pipe (zero clearance) down one chimney, and another kind (flexible steel) down other chimney. And, he needed to figure how to do it working via an attic access rather than going into the chimney from the living room and removing the face stone on the fireplace and then replacing it. When he ran into problems not of his own making (the first flexible steel liner he brought out was defective), he made sure that the next one he brought out was in prime shape Time and again he had to think “outside the box.” Thankfully he could do that. I would not hesitate to recommend him. He truly seemed to care about his customers. In addition, his helper was considerate, polite, and helpful.

I called Chimney Specialists in the morning. Andrew returned my call in the early afternoon and to my amazement, they were very near my neighborhood and willing to come within 20min. Right on time, Andrew (and his assistant) arrived, introduced himself, and immediately went to work. While he looked at both of my fireplaces, his assistant set up the ladders to look from the top. His assessment was that all was well and this inspection didn't cost me a penny. As an added benefit, Andrew noticed the service power lines coming to my house that appeared to be in bad shape and about to cause a big short in the tree next door. He recommended I call the power company.

This company is great. They gave me an estimate of $3900 to tear down 36 courses and rebuild my chimney. The workers were here when they said they would be and came every day on time until the job was done and they worked hard. The workers were polite and cleaned the area up every day. They also matched my brick and died the mortar as well to match the 20+ year-old mortar already there. When they got done, if you really don't know it, you would not be able to tell they had rebuilt the chimney. When I was to pay for it, Andrew charged me $200 less because he didn't have as much work as he thought. What a great thing to do! I would highly recommend this company for any chimney repairs.
