I am so appalled at the treatment I received as a single woman from the Andersen representative that came to my door that I have to report it here. The representative was going through the neighborhood making cold calls. I was actually interested because I do need to get new windows. When I expressed interest, he asked if my husband was home. I asked him why he needed to know, and didn't answer his question. As we talked further, he tried two more times to determine my marital status and told me that they like to have both home owners present when the job papers are signed. I told him I was unhappy with such questions, and the rep said other people had told him that, too. Since he was young, I thought I would give him the benefit of the doubt after I had expressed my displeasure, and we started to set up a time for someone to come work up an estimate. The rep then asked me if my husband would be there for the appointment, at which I told him to skip it, I was no longer interested. I recently purchased a car for much more than the windows would cost me, and my marital status never came up, so I fail to understand why it would be important for Andersen to know such information before any money was involved, or even ever.

We are sorry for your experience. Our local marketers have a list of questions to ask homeowners however they are also trained to listen to the homeowner and respect their privacy. We are sorry if the young person that came to your door did not follow that direction. We work diligently to train all of our personnel in how to properly deal with all homeowners. We do ask that any and all decision makers be present- if possible for an estimate. Simply because there are a lot of moving parts to our estimates. We have over 21 different color combinations and over 10 grille options. Thus, having all homeowners "on the same page' goes a long way to having a satisfactory experience should a homeowner decide to purchase product. Again, sorry for your inconvenience. That being said we train all of our representatives to be much more precise and

It was very good and I would recommend them without hesitation. They did it on the afternoon, it wasn't very long. I think there was 4 person and did a very good job. They covered everything. They had the lock on. It's a good company and they have a good product but it's expensive. That was the second time I used them. They were later than what they were scheduled.

There was a little bit of communication about the pricing. I called the manager and it was explained. He just didn’t explain it very well. Other than that, the window quality was great. The installation was very good. We’re pleased overall. It was a little high. We kept saying if we are understanding this is going to be this. He said, "Yes." We got their bill. I said we can’t do that and this was before the installation. He said we signed and we are committed. I think it was just that one person who talked with us. My parents bought Anderson windows when they built their house and they were wonderful. We’re very pleased with the products but not so much for the price. They supplied everything, the installation and the hauling of the old windows and doors. We had to do the painting of the trim. They didn’t even do that. Otherwise, it looks real well. The doors slide well. They seal well and lock well.

I am still waiting on the screens after they installed the windows. I paid for premium screens and they have not delivered those. I am not happy with how some of the windows turned out and it has been really hard to get any follow up from them and I have already paid them. They showed up without an appointment but I was able to rearrange my schedule to coordinate it. You are paying the premium for that service so I expected more from them. They installed the windows and now the trim is coming off. The windows are really lovely and are energy efficient and a great design. I don't think there is a big connection between their sales group and their delivery group. So they make the sale then on to the next.

It was good. That was the first time I used them but all the windows in the house were done by Anderson but they were done before. They came in and got everything done in two days then they were out and did a good job. Actually I was not around during the first day when they put in the molding and the inside of the house was a clutter and they actually came back out and cleaned that. They were high on price.

It turned out very well. They were quick, clean, and efficient. I know they are more expensive than some because I asked for ones that would tip in so we could clean them on the outside from the inside. That was a very good product, I thought and still do. I have a pretty big house and it has a lot of windows. The people were so professional. I like people in the house that know what they are doing. The quality was very good. I'm not going to use them because I'm moving out of town.
Description of Work: Renewal by Andersen of Grand Rapids took out the old windows and put in the new ones. They did all except for 2 large windows that had been replaced, it was a sliding glass door and the other one was a big picture window with 6 panes on it. It was going to cost $6,000 to replace that so I chose not to because it was already different than everything else in the house to begin with.

I don't doubt the windows are extremely nice, but they are very expensive and I don't feel that my house is nice enough to warrant such nice windows - we'd be just fine with some regular windows. The sales guy was nice and professional not too pushy. He showed us an example of the windows they have and the options you can get.

I called for appt to get bid on 5 big windows, patio doors. They wanted to make sure my husband would be there; explained that he was busy working, that I took care of the remodeling projects. They pushed for his presence, I told themI would take my business elsewhere. Later someone called and apologized, said they like to have the husband involved, but would of course come. I explained what I was looking to replace, approx. sizes, looking for bid. The evening before my appointment, dinner time, sick child, someone called to verify my appt. and wanted to discuss more details about what I was looking for. I explained I had a situation going, people in the house, and had given what details I had when I made the appt. She continued to ask questions, I told her I could not talk at the moment, I would be there for the appt, but couldn't take more time. She continued to try to tell me more about product ( I told her I had researched before calling) , would not accept what I said, told her clearly again I could not be on the phone anymore, she continued to talk- I said I would be there for appt.thanked her, and hung up. The next day they did not show up for the appt. and after a week they have called once a week.

The salesperson/estimator was very nice, personable, and not pushy at all and took his time to answer all the questions we had. They do have one discount that you only get on the first visit which I do not like but they all have a sales pitch. Pricing was just way to high for us compared to vinyl windows. He showed up pics of his vinyl windows and the warping but I have another brand in my old home installed in 96 and then others in 2001 that have never had an issue so I think he had chosen a bad window company. He talked up their Fibrex over vinyl and while I do think the Anderson windows are better I do not see they are worth double or more. If the price was better I would take them, just do not want to take on the national debt to do so. I did get a follow up call from someone who wanted "to simply drop by and give me a written estimate" but soon could tell they wanted to stop by and double team me into purchasing the windows. Once I told them where my max price is and that there was no way I would pay near the price they said they would hold off on the written estimate. They were a bit pushy, on like the salesman who was quite pleasant.

Thank you for your review and we understand your concerns when it comes to price. Renewal by Andersen isn't the cheapest window on the market because of our high quality Fibrex framing material, high energy efficient glass pack, professional installation, and warranty that we provide. Our patented Fibrex framing material expands and contracts less than a vinyl window because it's made out of 40% wood fibers and 60% CPVC polymer. Most of the windows that we replace with Renewal by Andersen windows are vinyl windows, and yes vinyl is cheaper than our windows, but more than likely they won't last as long. We appreciate your review and understand that when someone has a budget for a Chevy they can't justify spending more to get a Cadillac.

Overall very well. Sales rep Mel was very helpful and knowedgeable...yes, he convinced us that we would not like the less expensive insert type windows, as compared with the full window replacement. But he was helpful in arranging for us to see an actual installation. They looked good there, but would not have fit our home as well. Inserts have more "wood" (actually composite). The full replacements look very good. While waiting for fabrication, we had many questions, and Mel got answers quickly. It was about 7 or 8 weeks between contract signing and installation. Installation started on the date set at signing. Installer Joel was an experienced 2nd generation carpenter from the west side of Michigan. He and his coworker Phil partly commuted and stayed over in Jackson a couple of times during the 6 days of construction. They worked steadily, with a lot of care, and to the extent I could observe and judge, using good materials. The most important factor is the workmanship of installation. I was present for most of the 32 windows, plus patio door and noted their care in aligning, foaming, installing trim and exterior caulking. I would be happy to contract with Joel for any carpentry work. They also were careful to minimize mess and clean up after each room was done. It should be noted that this project necessarily involved some amount of dust and mess. They cut the old windows out from outside, but there is some sawdust & plaster dust. Once an old window is pulled, the construction dust plus accumulated years of whatever was around the old window can blow in through the opening. To try to manage this, we moved and covered furniture, walls and ceiling fans that we could reach with plastic ("grip n gard" from paint store). We used 1 1/2 rolls. The house did need dusting and cleaning after completion. This is as expected, but they did their best to try to control it. Joel was very good about communicating. We coordinated with him on when each room would start, so we could prep it just ahead of when needed. This minimized disruption of the house, and spread the work out for us. While constrained by the windows they had brought (the entire job was about 3 truckloads), they were very accommodating as to the order of rooms done. This was important, because we could use other areas of the house and not be totally disrupted. They were very friendly and willing to explain what they were doing. They were very tolerant of my looking over their shoulders most of the time and taking pictures of what it looks like under the trim. The job was originally estimated at 5 days, but took 6 plus an additional day to install one window which was mis-measured. We have 5 large arched windows in an upper row for which scaffolding ended up being required. The final results look very good. The look matches our old windows very closely - which is what we wanted and were promised. While we haven't experienced extreme winter or summer with them yet, they seem to be very energy efficient, but still give good esthetics. It will be years before we could really comment on durability, but they seem well made.

Salesman (not contractor) showed up, went through the house and we told him what we wanted to do, went to his car for 20 minutes and came back out with his "estimate", which was nothing more than a number written on a piece of paper. No itemized list of costs or supplies, labor, items etc, just a number. For replacing 3 french doors and 8 windows wanted 43K !!! Had work subsequently done with a different contractor and supplier for 20K with top of the line Andersen windows and great install. Seemed very shady. Salesman called me a few months later saying he was with a different company and could do the work for a lot less and just as good. We already had gone with someone else at that point.

The appointment was very promptly scheduled and the salesperson arrived on time. He was a nice guy and gave a polished sales presentation. He knew his products well, although he spent a little too much time running down the competition. Now for the downsides. He gave us the big 'list price", which is meaningless because their stuff is always on some sort of sale and since their list prices are not public they can use any number they want. Then he gave us the "discounted price" and then finally the "today only" price. I know why that tactic is used but I should point out that none of the other contractors who bid on our project used that tactic. Truthfully, it adds an air of "used car salesman" to the meeting. Just my opinion as one who spent a career in sales and sales management. He would not give us a written bid, instead showing us a number on his iPad. When I told him that I wanted a written bid with product descriptions, specifications, pricing, and terms and conditions he said that would be on the contract and he had no way to give us that info on a written bid. Every other contractor who bid on the project gave us that info in writing. He also left no literature nor did he ever call back to follow up with us. I had received a 5% discount coupon from Angie's list for this company and when I presented it to the salesman he said he had never seen it before and that he had already offered a discount. Despite saying that he would check into it further, he never got back to us. If they have no intention of honoring the extra discount for Angie's List members, don't waste my time having the coupon sent to me. This is not a reflection on the product, which I'm sure is fine if you want an insert instead of a full frame widow.

The sales person was not pushy, he was very informative, and he gave us options. We then had another person come out and measure the windows. We are waiting for the windows to be made because we had to special order the windows, which is nice because they will just fit in existing areas. They gave us a huge quote because we have five windows; they are pricey. We had already previously looked at Anderson windows two months back and knew the quality of windows; he was able to show us why the windows were of good quality and had a lot of information to share. They were good at calling ahead of time to verify the appointment. The whole process was really good. We are pretty impressed so far.

We appreciate your review and feedback. Yes, Renewal by Andersen and Andersen's prices may be higher then certain competitors, however Andersen Corporation has been in business for over 110 years and we continue to make quality products and provide quality service. Renewal by Andersen windows are made out of a patented material that only Andersen has called Fibrex. This is a rot free, maintenance free material, that expands and contracts less than a vinyl window, so you are paying for a higher quality framing material. Our prices also always include the professional installation, because we have to professionally install every window or door we sell due to the warranty we provide. Our installers are trained and certified to Renewal by Andersen standards because it doesn't matter what kind of window you purchase if it's not installed correctly it might as well be a piece of plastic. A lot of our customers who bought windows from us understand that yes we may be more expensive, but they are paying for a higher quality product and service. We apologize for the Field Rep not following up after the initial consultation and will make sure that our Reps follow up in a timely manner.

We were scheduled to receive a quote for windows and doors of our home. The agent called stating he was running 5 minutes late (which wasn't the issue). I told him my husband would be home when he arrived, and that was no problem. The agent asked if I was going to be there, and I said I was not able to be there. He said the appointment needed to be rescheduled. I stated that was not necessary, that my husband was going to be there and would get all the info necessary. The agent, sounding very irritated, said "allright" and rudely hung up the phone on me, as I was still speaking with him. The agent arrived at our home, spoke with my husband. When the agent confirmed that we BOTH were NOT present for the quote, he told my husband he's been doing this for 37 years and basically gave my husband a bunch of statistics, stating why he needed both of us present for a QUOTE, and basically told my husband he wasn't going to waste his time on a quote, if both of us were not there. The agent LEFT!!! In all the times we have received quotes or set up appointments for other jobs, I've never heard such a ridiculous "policy" or been treated so rudely. I am a potential customer, who took time from MY schedule to have you (the business) present, and you tell ME that you don't want to waste your time...thank you very much--there are PLENTY of OTHER locally owned businesses providing the same product with MUCH BETTER customer service than that...

We appreciate your review and understand your concerns. All of our windows and doors are custom made in Cottage Grove, MN. That is the only reason that we ask all homeowners to attend the Free In-Home Consultation with our Field Reps. Our customers have to pick out the style of window or door they want, interior/exterior colors or a wood interior, the type of glass they want, whether or not they want grilles and what style of grille, and what type of hardware they want. All of these choices make a difference in the price of the windows, so it's impossible to give an accurate price without all of these options being picked out. In our experience of being in business for 18 years, 95% of the complaints we receive after an installation is from the customer who didn't attend the appointment and didn't get to pick out what they wanted. We strive for 100% customer satisfaction from all customers and that's why we ask anyone who has a say in how you want your windows to look to attend the 60-90 minute consultation. We apologize for your experience with us and we will strive to make it better for future customers.

They came out to replace the windows in my older home. The older windows were starting to draft. When they came out to take measurements, they were prompt. He was so nice, he sent me a birthday card!

We had them back three times on service calls because they did not install enough insulation in the windows. We literally had to take off the trim of the window to show it off. It finally fixed now but we had these windows installed in December and it just got resolved last week. Nobody could figure out why it was so cold in our house. I had tried to tell my husband when they were installing the windows that they were not putting enough of spray and foam insulation. Come to find out they said that the foam insulation that they were installing was not that effective. They did not charge us to come and do the stuff. So it all came down to defective foam. They were really good. They were respectable and very nice people. I said something to them a couple of times about how they were not installing enough of foam, it was because he was spraying it from the outside and I was inside so he could not tell. They told me that they were spraying enough because it was leaking out and they were wiping the stuff off. But it was not filling in the holes. We kind of do not believe that it was defective foam but that’s what they were claiming. I thought that $13000.00 for 11 windows was ridiculous. I wish my husband could have investigated this a little more. We tried to negotiate with them but did not, that was ridiculous. Our old windows were actually better than the new ones even when being fixed now. We had three windows that had broken sashes on them. Supposedly, they said it came from the warehouse like that. I am still waiting for them to come and replace the sashes. They tore some of our siding and it took them, three months to replace that too. We had to call them like six times to get a rebate from consumer’s power. They kept making up excuses for that too and final day when they were here I gave them all hell. I was not happy because I was not usually like that. The second time the guys had come over they said that they thought we were happy with the windows. If I was complaining that there was air gas leaking in the house, should they take the strip of to take the telephone, then they did not. The third time they came I mailed them because my husband literally took off all the insulation of this big window and sprayed more foam in there to fix it themselves. I was not happy so I decided to call them back and finish their job and do it right, because $13000.00 was $13000.00. They were blaming it on the installer and the installer was blaming it on defective foam. We had to make six different telephone calls to get the secretary here to even get the rebate email to us so we can email it to consumer power. They were always here when they said they would be here with the time they said they were going to be here. The last time the guy came he was 20 minutes late but I did not care. I thought that they all had good professionalism except for the guy who came here the second time. He was the one who was being kind of nasty. We will never recommend them to anybody. They also asked me if I wanted the rest of the windows done and I said no, not with them again.
