just now I had Polar Seal Windows installed in November 2019. In January 2019, I had my first leak and in February I had my second leak- water pouring in from the top. The installer came in put up a temporary fix of mounting a sheet of aluminum as an overhang. He’s not returning my phone calls or visits. When I emailed Polar Seal they it off and seemed unconcerned and unreliable. Even though the windows are not even six months old, they seem to say the temporary overhang was sufficient to stop the water from coming in the window, so that was the remedy. Obviously they’ve never heard of the legal term “fit for a particular purpose.” The legal world believes that when a consumer buys a product, the product needs to be fit for a particular purpose. When I bought these windows, I assumed that they were fit to keep water from coming into my house without an aluminum overhang. I’ve had multiple homes with multiple homes with multiple windows installed and I have never ever heard of anything so ridiculous. This is a crappy company that does not stand behind their product. Go Anywhere else- I wish did!!

I highly recommend this company - they are solid from top to bottom and do what they say they will do. They do not use high pressure sales tactics, which I really appreciated given experiences with other competitors in the industry. Their office is easy to work with, and so is their service manager and technicians. I've been working with Polar Seal for several years now, and they ended up installing all of the windows in my home, in addition to a couple sliding doors. In the rare instance where we've had a quality issue, their service techs visit right away and fix the problem - no questions asked. When the last batch of windows got installed we did end up with an unexpected order error which was partially my fault and partially theirs. I worked with Polar Seal's president to come up with a mutually agreeable solution and couldn't be happier with the end result. Seeing the company work through this with me, and avoiding something that could have easily gone the other way, made me an even bigger fan of this company. If you're looking for windows, I strongly suggest considering Polar Seal!

The whole process was very good. Salesman was great to work with, explained every detail to our satisfaction. Windows were installed in the time frame promised and they did a good job of installation. Not a big fan of the trim molding they used on the inside and mostly likely will change it out when I have time.

I spent time collecting several different bids. I did research taking into account that price was very important, but only one of my concerns. I decided to go with Polar Seal, even though they were not the least expensive. They put all new windows in a home built in 1905. I was concerned about the plaster walls, and the difficulty of replacing windows in a structure that, after 111 years standing, is less that perfectly square. I am so happy that I went with Polar Seal! The salesperson was informed, patient, did not bad mouth other companies and returned my multiple calls. The installers were punctual and very professional. They were organized, efficient, and the end product is great! Polar Seal has installation crews that are part of the company, not contracted for a short-high traffic time. They displayed pride in their work and their company. I would highly recommend Polar Seal.

We looked at several window companies, we narrowed it down to 3; we had them come to our home for an in-depth interview (not sales...interview, because we were asking all the questions!) After checking multiple sources, we were impressed with the quality of the sliding glass door by Polar Seal. We contacted them to give them the go-ahead and they scheduled a date and time for someone to come out to take measurements. The wonderful thing about Polar Seal is they build your door/window to your exact dimensions. This is quite different from buying something from stock and having the installer fit it in with shims and foam. Another plus, is that these doors are made to your specifications, right here in Michigan! The installers came right on time on the date scheduled and before doing anything, they verified the measurements!. Once they were satisfied, they began removing the existing door. As a woman, I was particularly pleased as I watched one man cutting through the existing nails/screws/etc, while on the inside of the house, the other gentleman was holding the wand from a wet vac, sucking up all dust and particles from the removal, keeping my house clean!!! They took a great deal of time making sure everything was perfectly installed, and any little item was addressed immediately. When they were done, the work area was spotless. The door itself: The quality of this door is amazing. It's sturdy, strong, very well made. There's a double lock on the glass door, which is something I've never seen, and there's a safety "dead bolt" at the bottom left corner of the sliding door. This provides an unobtrusive second layer of security, which is well designed and easy to use. The frame of the slider is very sturdy; it's a heavier weight polymer vinyl that doesn't bend or move when you try to force it. For example, there are windows you see on display at stores, and the vinyl lip of the channel can be moved out if you push on it; not this. This is tough stuff, and along the bottom track are drainage holes so that water doesn't collect and damage the door. Our original door was wood, and it did not have the drain holes; there was rot because of that. The stationary window is very sturdy; the screen has a handle that has a special design. It isn't the typical plastic one piece screen handle. This design has you using two fingers to guide the screen in place. This keeps the screen from bending over time. The sliding glass door is sturdy, strong and very nice looking. All in all, I'm extremely pleased with every aspect of our interaction with Polar Seal. This company has been in business for over 50 years for good reason. In the next 2 years we're facing the replacement of our living room windows. These windows create the whole wall, plus windows on either end of that wall. So we're talking 10 feet high by 16 feet wide, plus the two side windows. It will not be easy or cheap, but it will be done perfectly, and Polar Seal is who we're calling first. I would strongly encourage everyone to take a good hard look at this company if you're looking at window or sliding glass door replacement. I'm thoroughly pleased with the product, the price, the amazing construction and the professional installation.

I got quotes from several companies. Polar Seal is the only one that did not bad mouth other windows/companies and did not pressure me to make a decision on the spot. They gave me a detailed quote and 30 days to think it over if I wanted. The installers were Polar Seal employees. Not sub-contractors. Three installers arrived on time and went to work. They worked for three and a half days to finish and did excellent work. The same installers came every day. Very professional and lots of attention to detail. They cleaned up after themselves and appeared to take pride in the install. The final price was exactly what I had been promised. No surprises. I would use them again and will recommend them to anyone.

We are very pleased with our new windows. We visited the Grand Rapids Home Show 2015 looking for info on new windows and siding. One company refused to set up a estimate unless we could both be present. Been there, done that. Typically means a high-pressure sales situation. Eliminated them immediately. Polar Seal rep. came out. Did the estimate. Explained the product very well and left the info for me to review with my husband. Our installers Paul and his assistant arrived on time and worked efficiently to install all of out windows in one day. Cleaned up beautifully and hauled away all the debris. Paul was also able to point me in the right direction to have some smaller inside repairs done. Small jobs are hard to find people to do and I was grateful for his help. I can only hope we have as good of an experience with our up coming siding project.

We've only had the windows installed for a couple of weeks but so far everything is perfect. We started with a list of 5 window replacement providers that we thought we should get quotes from (Anderson Renewal, Pella, Grand Rapids Glass Block, Home Depot and 1-800 Hansens). The first 2 interview/quotes were with Anderson and Pella. The sales people for those two companies were very nice and knowledgeable without being to pushy. Unfortunately their quotes were outrageously high, so high my wife and I discusses moving instead of having the windows replaced! The 3rd interview was with Grand Rapids Glass Block and didn't go very well, we had questions about the casement windows and requested to see one but never heard back from the sales person or anyone else at Grand Rapids Glass Block. The Home Depot Interview was good but I wasn't overly impressed with the windows. The 1800-Hansens interview never happened because we kept hearing horror stories about them from our friends. My wife called and canceled the meeting but they refused to take no for an answer and insisted a representative would show up. After several minutes of arguing with them my wife finally ended up telling them if anyone shows up at our house they wouldn't be let in and hanging up. Five minutes later we got a call from a "supervisor" at Hansens stating that someone would show up the next day. After more shouting and threats they finally gave in and hung up. Short story, don't even think about 1-800-Hansens unless you enjoy harassment. My 12 year old son suggested we call Polar Seal after seeing one of their commercials on TV. I wasn't familiar with them so I checked them out on the Better Business Bureau and Angie's List sites and they looked pretty good. The interview process was super smooth and the salesman was very informative and not pushy at all. The windows looked to be as good as the Anderson or Pellas and cost about HALF the price. Polar Seal also had more color options which was a nice bonus. After giving Polar Seal the go ahead they delivered and installed the windows about 5-6 weeks later. The installation crew was very nice and courteous. They kept us informed of how the progress was coming, when they would be showing up and also when they would be done. They didn't leave a mess inside or outside of the house. Everything looks excellent! We did have one small issue with a window that didn't open correctly and they sent someone immediately to fix it (no charge of course). The fix was quick and now the window works as expected. I hadn't really heard much about Polar Seal before but I sure am glad we found out about them before we went with an inferior product or crazy expensive one.

I have nothing but great things to say about working with Polar Seal. I quoted out a few window companies and the salesman for Polar Seal was knowledgeable, friendly, quick to the point, and answered all of my questions without trying to push the product. He really did just let the windows sell themselves with providing great service. This was a big project as I bought all new windows for my house. They were also willing to work around my really busy schedule. I travel for work and they were willing to work around when I was home and available. The process was quick and the windows are great. The team that installed them were very professional and they worked well. They were respectful of my house at all times. I appreciated that.

Our house is over 140 years old so there were some unexpected problems which slowed things down a little. The workers were very professional and did a great job. My only complaint was that they didn't show up a couple of days when they told me they would be there and I didn't get a phone call to let me know. We were told it would take 3-4 days to complete the job, but it dragged on for almost 2 weeks.

After meeting with a representative from Polar Seal at my home, I am surprised by all the positive reviews on Angie's list. I found the whole experience unpleasant and will not be using Polar Seal to install my replacement windows. First, they showed an annoying lack of professionalism and a total disregard for my time. The representative cancelled a scheduled appointment the day of the appointment. Then he was almost a half hour late for our rescheduled time. Second, when he finally showed up, it was clearly the end of the day for him and he was eager to be on his way. Getting information out of him was like pulling teeth. He gave me a couple of brochures and appeared ready to head home. I'm not looking for someone to hang around for hours, but the visit was so perfunctory as to be unhelpful. And, when I asked specifically about energy ratings and whether their windows met energystar standards, he was very evasive and never answered my question. Third, he was playing pricing games. He would give me a number and then subtract "discounts." But then he would "forget" that he didn't include something and the price would go back up. The price see-sawed up and down in this manner several times, everywhere from around 4,100 up to what I guess is his final quote of over 5,600. He's either wildly inept or manipulating prices. And, at the end of it, he didn't even give me a written estimate with any kind of details. He literally jotted a number down on a piece of scrap paper--oh, and then he added tax which he "forgot" to include earlier. Given his 'forgetfulness," I'm not even confident that they will stand by the number he gave me or that it represents what I actually wanted. I really liked the idea of using a locally made product, but unfortunately I was not at all impressed and I'm going to look elsewhere.

Response from Polar Seal Window Corp
[Removed member name]: I regret the experience with our company was so disappointing, but appreciate you sharing the information so it can and will be addressed. This is not the manner in which we intend to present ourselves and treat prospective customers. You deserve a better experience and I hope that's what you find when searching elsewhere. I'm sorry we've lost you as a potential customer, but hope to improve our procedures from this going forward. Again, my apologies. Jason Blyveis, President Polar Seal Window Corp.

The salesman, Jim, came to the house and brought samples of the windows and the sliding glass door. He showed these to us and explained how everything worked. He was very through and never pressured us in any way. He took measurements of each window and the slider and he told us exactly how much the job would cost. We decided to make the purchase and he wrote up the order. This was on June 16 2015. They delivered and installed the windows and the slider on July 30 2015 and returned on July 31 2015 to finish the trim work. The crew of three worked very well together and obviously had a lot of experience installing windows and doors. One man did all of the inside work while the other two worked on the outside. The inside man took his shoes off at the door and put a tarp down to cover the carpet at each window. As he finished at each window he ran a vacuum to pick up any bits and pieces that fell. When they were done they made sure everything was cleaned up. They showed us how each window worked, opening, closing, locking and how to tilt them in to clean the outside surface. Our new windows and sliding glass door all look great and they all work very smoothly. We look forward to a big improvement in comfort this winter.

From the very start with the salesmen they were prompt, factual and not pushy or aggressive. Promptly returned all calls and answered ? if possible. The measurer and installers were prompt, courteous and did an excellent job. The were neat and tidy and did a great job of clean up after they finished. While swinging one of the doors into place they accidentally made a gouge in the dry wall of a doorway. They repaired it promptly and said they (the company) would pay for any paint and additional work needed, which they did. Great company, excellent product. We can already feel the temperature difference in the room. Work qualifies for an energy rebate and is expected to lower both our AC and heating bills.

Quote process was professional, no high pressure sales tactics! Communication was timely when we had questions for our sales representative and installation scheduler. Installation took place 8 weeks after our order was placed, with a two man team that took two days: first day the windows were installed, the second day the patio door was installed and the finishing was completed inside and outside. Installers were professional, clean, and more than happy to answer questions about their work. They didn't leave on the second day until they showed us their work, demonstrated how the windows and door worked, and until we signed off saying that we were satisfied. We had a window that was quoted to need a full frame replacement, and when the installers determined that it wasn't necessary, we were refunded the difference in price. We are so pleased with how they look, inside and out, and our house is quieter and warmer. We have two other patio doors that I will want to be replaced by this company in the future. I would recommend this great local company to family and friends.
