Project took a little over a month, but I felt contractors were nice, did their job, and I was here to answer questions if had to leave. Felt comfortable leaving my contact info and them access to my home.

Montell was on time and very clean, out project was completed and we are very happy with the end result.

I should have read all the reviews. My husband and I are getting our home ready to sell in a year or so. I am taking bids on a few projects. I left a message on Angie's List for this company. Their office called me back very quickly. We went over all the things I would like to have accomplished. At the end of the call, she said my husband and I both would have to be there for the estimate. I explained we are busy, and that she should have told me that at the onset of the call; I should have asked, as well. I explained, I am the one taking bids on the projects we have to have done. I know there are a lot of people out there that have a problem with this type of business practice. I don't appreciate the assumption that only one person can make a decision. I have been taking bids for these projects, and this company so far is the only one who has required both my husband, and I be there. I question their motives. I will send a separate email to Angie's List to explain why I feel companies should not have a spouse present practice and why I will continue to complain about this procedure and not do business with them. This review is the only negative review I have given.

We have a 115 year old prairie style house and wanted to reduce or eliminate painting , especially on the upper story. After the Montell Salesman gave us time to plan and go over options we had the rafter tails wrapped, 3 inch siding put on and all the soffits and fascia wrapped. No more paining maintenance and the home still has all of its original charm and after a year, NO ISSUES!! From the salesperson to the installers, I don?t think we could have found a better group . I called today and spoke with Amy. I wanted to get an estimate for ridge and soffit vents for my home. She said that they only accept jobs greater than $2,500.00 and asked if it would come to that. They were the first I called, so I had no idea, but they don't seem interested in the business.

Dealing with Montell Construction was a great experience from working with the owners, the window and siding crews and even the delivery person dropping off materials to our house. Our salesman gave us several ideas we could go with but in the end it was our decision to choose what products and colors to go with and we did not feel pressured. They were all very professional, prompt, courteous and hard working. When the work crews were finished for the day, they walked around and picked up anything that was laying around. We would not hesitate to recommend Montell Construction to anyone interested in having new windows or siding installed and would have no problem working with them again in the future. Very happy with the new look of our house and the 100% lifetime warranty on both the windows and the siding. Thanks to Matt and Bill for the great job on taking out all the old windows and installing all the new windows and doors in one day. Really like having the security latch system on them and how easy they are to clean from the inside.

The owner of the company who apparently also writes the estimates met with us on two occasions. Each time, he insisted that both myself and my wife were home -- no doubt to put the hard-sell on. He is the only provider I have ever met with in any home project that has insisted upon this tactic. We knew exactly what we wanted and the materials that we wanted to use. The owner tried to heavily steer us in a different direction with a different design which we did not want. He kept complaining that we were asking for a custom-designed balcony. Obviously, all decks are customized, to a degree. His estimates-and we received approximately three different ones from Montell -- were never put into writing . He was reluctant to do so for some odd reason. Each time he met with us he kept asking us how much we were looking to spend. Obviously, no more than necessary. He made us feel as though what we were asking for was too nice for the neighborhood in which we live and our house. My wife was completely uncomfortable with him . The final estimate that he provided for the design that we wanted was insanely high, higher than every other estimate we received, by a long shot. For all of these reasons, we chose a different builder and could not have been happier with our decision.

Met them ! the home show, had an appt in 3 days. Started ASAO and finished on time ) my requested time). All work was done to perfection.

The end result was fantastic! They did a beautiful job and really transformed the back of the house. Everyone we came in contact with was professional, friendly and very competent. I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for a quality product.

Last year, Montell replaced the roof on my house. They were so great that I had them install a new roof and insulation on my new house. They have all been so wonderful to work with. The office manager (Amy) , the owners (George and Chad), and the production manager (Brent) all took the time to answer all of my questions and made me feel very comfortable and well taken care of. I was kept updated on the job progress. The installation crew was quick and did a great job with cleanup. You could tell that everyone takes pride in their work. I honestly can say that I have been so happy with the relationship that we have formed and will always call Montell for any projects that may come up. They have a customer for life.

All of my interactions with Montell Contruction were GREAT! I felt like everyone cared about providing me the best service - starting with Amy in the office and her cheery voice, to George and all of the information I was given at my appointment. The installation went off without a hitch and the clean-up was remarkable. I am a VERY satisfied customer! I will definitely call them for my next project.

As I stated above I had several projects that I thought I could have Montell Construction consolidate. So I gave them a call for their quote. I had asked the sales person to make each bit separately. And proceeded to show him some of the projects I wanted done. I showed him the picture window first as that is the biggest replacement window that I would like to have replaced. Then I showed him the bath room window that I wanted to have replaced with a glass block window then I showed him some trim work on the outside I wanted ?wrapped? and some where along this time line the sales person started stating they (Montell) do NOT do projects that are less then $2,500 and that it would be a ?waste? of their ?time? to do anything less (then the $2500) limit. Well at that time I felt that it was no longer any use to continue with this sales person nor to deal with Montell Construction. So I asked the sales person to leave. It took several times of asking but he did leave. I did receive a call from someone from Montell several minutes after the sales person left. Wanting to know how everything went. I told him ?not good? and after several more minutes just told him I did not want to deal with Montell at all. To me I have the feeling that unless you have a larger project that Montell really dose not want to deal with you. I hope others have a much better dealing with them then I did.

Very high pressure tactics used to try and secure an on the spot contract which was proceed at about double the going rate for services of this type.

The day before our scheduled appointment, they called to confirm. When I told them my wife would not be at the appointment, they said they would need to reschedule for a time when she would be there. I explained in detail that my wife has a very busy work schedule, and is always on call, and can leave at any moment, so I could never guarantee she would be here at a specific time. So I do all the appointments for estimates, to weed out the good from the bad, then when its time to commit to the project, she would be able to meet with them. The scheduler took that info to her boss, called me back to say they were sticking to there policy and wanted to reschedule. I said NO, I will be here at the scheduled time, if they show up, they have a chance for my business, if they don't show, my business will go elsewhere. They didn't show. I did get a message from George, wanting to explain the reasoning, but I am unfortunately one of those people who checks voice mail about once a month, so just got the message, and have not responded to it.

Came to my house to check roof and advised me not to break seal of present shingles if not absolutely necessary,only if the roof starts to leak.

It went great. The work went as scheduled and all the work was completed as promised.

Started out great, needed a bid for an enclosed deck/or sunroom. Sales person asked me what I thought it would cost, I gave him a high figure, and he estimated and built on that. Pricing was out of this world even after deducting his 20% discount. I would have been fine if it wasn't for him starting to "high Pressure" me into it. I really despise high pressure sales. when he knew I was unhappy with him putting pressure on me to start the project, even though it did not fit my budget, he slammed his paperwork in his bag and left without hardly saying good bye, or even leaving a business card or estimate. He seemed to be really unhappy that he didn't get a sale. He did have a trainee who was shadowing him, but the unprofessionalism blew me away and I work hiring contractors all the time at me day job. I would never recommend this company just for this reason. I am somewhat acquainted with the type of work that I was getting estimates for , and new what I was expecting to pay however his numbers came up double. The sales person asked me at the end "what did you even call us up for? If you are going to call other contacts you already have for a couple more estimates" that really made me feel low, as I always get 3 bids before accepting work. At the end of the day, it had nothing to do with the dollar amount as much as the first impression that was made at the time of the estimate. Maybe the job was too small and he didn't want it so he over bid it as a nice way of saying he didn't want the job. I know they are reputable in the area, but are off my list as far as using them as a contractor.

They are excellent. I can't complain at all about the workers I mean they are great workers. It was the project management that wasn't A plus plus.

It cost way to much. They had problems. It wasn't very high quality. I would not recommend them.

Work was completed within 3 days. The results were excellent and neighbors gave compliments.

It went quite well. It is a beautiful deck and we are enjoying it. It took a bit longer than we expected because they needed to get more material. When my husband had questions and suggestions they were responsive.

We had a 3 season porch that collapsed last February due to all the snow and rain. It's replacement was covered by our homeowner's insurance. We contracted Montell Construction to rebuild the structure - this was in April 2014. Immediately after we presented the bid to our insurance company, the problems began. Citizens Insurance company fought paying for the replacement of the room for all sorts of invalid reasons. Chad McNew, one of the owners of Montell Construction, immediately came to our aid. Our insurance company put up so many road blocks on this project. Chad McNew was there every step of the way. Not only did he correspond with Citizens on our behalf, he came to our home for meetings with the insurance company, their 'contractors' and engineering firm. They put us through the mill with all their regulations and requirements. They even tried to mislead us about the City of Kentwood building codes. Once again, Chad was there to talk with the city inspector and set the record straight. This process took several months to complete before the insurance company finally agreed to release the money for the rebuilding of our porch. Chad stayed in constant contact with us throughout the whole process. Without his help, this project would still be in the planning stages. His knowledge and expertise is what got the job done! Once the construction started, everything went very smoothly. Their employees were professional and personable. My husband and I are ecstatic with the results of our new 4 season porch and deck. It adds to the beauty and value of our property. We would HIGHLY RECOMMEND Montell Construction for any project you are considering. Sincerely, Pam and Rob Smereka

Someone who I am assuming is one of the owners showed up (without a ladder to even be able to get on said roof to give an estimate.) We talked for a while about the scope of the job and he threw some different numbers around, I asked him to write something down for me to take a look at and compare later. He told me that if I agreed to have his company do the work that day, the cost would be more than $1000 less. I see other people on here mentioning a similar high pressure sales tactic, call it whatever you want, it IS a high pressure sales tactic and it's bad business. As consumers we have the choice to shop around for the best quality & price, and based on the fact that this person showed up barely prepared to even give an estimate, I was certainly not going to commit to anything that day. *Update March 2015: I received a phone call from George in response to my review and he seemed like he was interested in explaining further the reasoning for their sales tactics. He says that they can't drive around giving estimates for free all the time due to the cost of gas, etc and that is the reason for their mentality of "today only" prices. This is the only contractor I've ever dealt with who has felt this way, most contractors I've interacted with see giving estimates/bids as free advertising and a chance to make contact with potential new customers. I still maintain that any estimate received without actually looking at where the flat roof meets the rest of the house would be inaccurate and every other contractor I spoke to after this agreed with me. I did find it interesting that the owner offered to buy me a gift card to 'one of my favorite restaurants' in exchange for changing my review. I'll be looking further into whether this violates the Angie's List terms of service.
