I love my new deck. It’s completely different than what I had and it’s much roomier than before. Ty and Kyle were very professional and worked with great music. Very polite and knowledgeable. I’m glad to have met the brothers.

It isn't done yet, but the construction manager is not being cooperative about some details that are very important to us. His comments on the material and timing for staining the deck are not consistent with information from lumber experts I know.

Our deck build experience with the team from Montell Construction was excellent! Eric and Kelly were top notch! Our deck is one of a kind and we really love it! They were professional, kind, and offered suggestions to make things better. The work site was clean all the time. We love the new deck! We would hire them again in a heartbeat!

They did nice work however the end result was that they did 90% of the job. There is a large opening under the porch on both sides that I would like to have closed. Animals can certainly nest there due to the gap. This was not made clear to us. I was just under the impression that the finished product would not leave a 3 foot gap from ground to floor.

No show. Call from dispatcher at 10:15 am stating that the salesperson was sick. If they knew they were sick, why didn't they set up a replacement salesperson, or call us the night before? Instead, we arranged our schedule so both of us would be home for the quote, but the salesperson didn't have the courtesy to cancel ahead of time.

The finished product exceeded our expectation. We are happy with the work that was performed. The increased work that was required did not effect the time that of the finished deadline. We have friends that needed some work to their home. We highly recommended Montell to them and they used them for their home project.

The sales person insisted that both spouses be home, but we agreed. At first things seemed good - the sales person was on time. He gave a similar assessment of our old deck as another contractor, knew what he was talking about. He sketched up a design and a full quote on the spot. But then he switched into sales mode - I didn't mind hearing about the background of the company, and I even joked with him about other Angies list reviews referring to high pressure sales - he said that was a sales person who was gone now. But we were really offended when he asked us to make a decision on the spot! Even after I explained that we were waiting for a quote from another company. Don't they think their quote can compete?? And he started offering discounts off the quote if we would sign right now, a bad sign. He didn't immediately take my hints that it was time for him to leave our house, but then finally left. The bid from the other company came in a good deal lower.

How in the world Montell has so many A reviews is a mystery to me. I am guessing many of these reviews are home baked. Here were my biggest concerns: OVERPRICED - I have gotten two more quotes since Montell from reputable companies for the same products, and both are about half the cost. LACK OF ETHICS/HIGH PRESSURE SALES - when you tell them you want to get multiple quotes, they try to pressure you based on expiring discounts and that you don't need anymore quotes because they have a piece of paper that says what the average cost is. OK. It was extremely refreshing to call other companies and have them understand that a savvy (i.e., not totally stupid) consumer will get more than one quote before spending thousands of dollars. THEY WASTE YOUR TIME - demanding that both my wife and I sit through an hour and a half BS sales pitch where we learn about 5 minutes of useful information? Do they have any idea that WE are the customer and Montell is fortunate to have any of our time? Again, other reputable comapnies actually respect your time, and don't demand to eat hours of it just to push overpiced services. Want a breakdown of materials vs. labor from Montell? They won't give it to you. No doubt the numbers would reveal what a scam they are actually running. After all, someone's gotta pay for all those commercials, salesman, and advertising - and that's you, Montell customers.

They were excellent. They did a good job. It was a good experience. I've never had any issue with them. When I've called them, they've come out.

Yesterday (4-13-16) our door work was completed and it looks great. The installation was well-done and clean up was excellent. The installer was very nice to work with. We are happy with the final product! Brent from Montell worked hard to ensure our satisfaction and we appreciate his vigilance. Our gutters look good and are working well. The gentlemen that installed them were very helpful and did a nice job.

Friendly sales, ordered siding crew removed old aluminum siding and hauled it away installed new vinyl siding.

Would not schedule an estimate if my husband can not be there, reason? So they can put a lean on your home if there is any dispute? Because that is the only way they can put a lean on your home if both husband and wife signed contract. I Will not again deal with any business that distrust its customer! I had made that mistake with Avalon building concepts. MAKE SURE THAT YOU GET THEM TO AGREE TO AN AUDIO RECORDING OR DO NOT LET THEM COME TO YOUR HOME FOR AN ESTIMATE, THEY WILL BE AGGRESSIVE IN THEIR SALE PITCH, AND PROMISE YOU THE WORLD THEN DOUBLE TALK LATER, AND WHEN YOU DEMAND THEY DO IT RIGHT BEFORE YOU PAY THE BILL, THEY THREATEN TO PUT A LEAN ON YOUR HOME BECAUSE BOTH OF YOU SIGNED THE CONTRACT.

We were really disappointed with the business practice of Montell Construction. We are restoring a home in Grand Rapids, and thought the curb appeal would be so much nicer if we put a deck on the front of the house, so we contacted Montell Construction for a quote. Montell Construction wanted both me and my husband there for the quote, which is a little difficult because we live about 40mins away. But we made it work, showed up at the house on time for our quote, and no one came. Montell had left me a voicemail the night before, letting me know that their schedule just got overbooked, and that they would not be able to meet. Too bad I didn't notice the message before driving out there, but it wasn't a big deal, we rescheduled for another day. For the next meeting, my husband and I drive out, and arrive at the house at 1:01pm for a 1:00pm meeting. Again, no one was there, and no one came. We waited for half an hour before calling Montell Construction to find out what happened. The administrator told us that the quote guy came, didn't see us, and left! But our truck was obviously in the driveway, and we would've have heard/seen anyone who walked up. They have my cell phone number, I asked why he didn't call me, and the administrator couldn't give me an answer. I feel like he just got overbooked again, and gave up on us in a flash so that he could get going to other clients. I felt dropped, like our time and our business wasn't important to them at all. I tried talking to them about this, and still there was no help. The whole situation left me frustrated, and with a bad taste in my mouth. With so many other businesses who are kind and courteous, why would I ever work with Montell Construction?

Project took a little over a month, but I felt contractors were nice, did their job, and I was here to answer questions if had to leave. Felt comfortable leaving my contact info and them access to my home.
