Been a few years now. It’s been a constant stubble since day 1. They were late. I took the day off. Sprinklers are almost ALL to low for my grass height. I constantly have to monitor the system as I have heads not popping up consistently. I then have to go dig them up and take out the pressure regulator valve which part of what makes the i20 hunters cost more in the first place. Technicians have been a few times in the first year putting bandaids on things and showing me how to fix them. I don’t bother calling them anymore as I know they are not going to come raise all the sprinklers or put 6in heads on them. Multiple sprinklers don’t sit straight in the ground either which is another fight on its own. All in all I would never do it again with this company. The staff and secretary were great with me. Workers were friendly just not good at rhere job except the lead tech who was the only one who spoke partial English also which made it even harder. We have Underground Sprinkle System with Grapids Irrigation. Our sprinkler kept running in one zone and didn't stop. Called them, they said they could come out only after 20 days. And the most important thing to mention is they charge $525 (parts only) for the 1. 1/5 inch Valve which costs only $82 in the store. I asked them if they can install the pats I have because I was planning to get the same for $82, they said they won't use customer's products. Compare the price before you choose G rapids Irrigation

It went very well. The technician was on site for about 4 hours.
Description of Work: I hadn't run my sprinkler system in a couple of years and it is about 20 years old. They started the system up, repaired/replaced a valve, replaced several sprinkler heads and capped a zone that I didn't want to use in the future.

Not well. After I explained the situation to the Technician, he began working on the in-ground valve. He tried several tools to loosen and remove the valve cap, but said that he wasn't able to, and would therefore have to "dig the whole thing up". When he saw my surprised reaction, he asked "why don't you try it"? I did, and I was able to remove the valve cap with one hand in about five seconds. Surprised and a little embarrassed, he returned to work. After a while he told me that he was confident that the valve was the cause of the problems that I was seeing, and asked if I wanted to replace it. I asked what the estimated cost would be and he said about $220. I was again surprised, and he said that I could probably go buy one myself at Menard's and save some money. Looking on the Menard's website to verify, they did not have the exact valve that I needed, but did have similar one's for about $20. In other words, GRapids charged me a 1000% mark up on the valve itself, plus $70 for the service visit. The Technician insisted that a similar part would not work without a much larger overhaul of the system, and that it would better if he just "went ahead and replaced it". I finally agreed since I didn't see a way to get the exact valve I needed. After he installed the valve, he went to the control box to test all the sprinkler zones. He asked if the timer had been working, and I said that it had also been working intermittently. After pushing all the buttons in what definitely appeared to be random combinations, he told me that it "wasn't working". When I asked what was causing the unit to work intermittently, he replied quote; "I don't know, it's old as ****". (for reference, my house is only 16 years old, so the sprinkler system and control box are that age or newer). When I asked what could be done to fix the control unit instead of replacing it, he replied quote; "I don't know, I'm not a magician". Needless to say, at this point the lack of knowledge and unprofessional demeanor was becoming frustrating. Left with no other real options (other than to ask him to leave) I told him to go ahead and replace the "old as ****" control unit with a new one, which he told me would cost over $270, despite being "the cheapest one". It took about an hour for him to finish installing the valve and the control unit, and replace on sprinkler head. He told me the total was going to be $600. Again seeing surprise on my face, he explained "yeah, we're pretty expensive", but said that it was worth it because although the competition was more affordable, they "didn't know what they're doing". Unfortunately I no longer agree that GRapids services are "worth it", and will be changing service providers in the future for all my sprinkler related services.

It is short for Grand Rapids Irrigation. They came and did an okay job, but I thought that the prices were too high for the work that they did. For that reason, I did not use them but one time. My company that I have been using, Spartan Irrigation, said that they are no longer going to service the Kalamazoo area and I think they may have recommended Grand Rapids Irrigation so that is why I used them. A lot of companies basically view their service as piece-meal so a young man comes in and say that his job just to turn it on. When you start saying things like that is not working well, he has these piece-meal prices and they are too expensive. So, I think they need to consider the whole job that a customer wants not just the irrigation system by itself but to look at the line, the flower needs, and consider their pricing in that way rather than piece-meal. That should result in better pricing and better service to the customer. As far as I can tell, the quality was okay. They were pretty responsive. The guy’s professionalism was fine.

Their turn on service from winterization went fine.. Where the problem has been and still exists is with the Pro-Feeder P1X system they installed. It worked as near as I can tell until the 1st Winterization that they performed. When the system didn't seem to be working last year they replaced the unit. The replacement unit didn't seem to be fully working but I wasn't sure so left it alone. Came time to winterize the system again and I watched again what they did. Both times there never was a service plug installed into the pro-feeder system. Upon THIS year talking with American Hydro who makes the pro-feeder I find out that one should always use a winterization plug otherwise the gears in the housing may be damaged and won't work. This is EXACTLY what my problem is THIS year with 2 replacements of the pro-feeder and it STILL is not working. In fact the tank of fluid is actually filling up with water blowing by the o-ring and of course not fertilizing the lawn. Since I could not get the company to contact me regarding this issue, I contacted American Hydro and told them of my predicament . They are shipping me a newly redesigned system supposedly. I informed Grapids of this fact but still wanted verification and a call regarding when they could re-install the system when I receive it. After multiple and repeated calls with no one in the office and requests for the Service Manager (Randy?) to call me back about this I STILL have had absolutely no response from Grapids. I have placed no fewer than 8 phone calls and left a message on the Service managers voice mail to call me...... STILL with no response.
Description of Work: Turned up the system from winterization. PLUS serviced AGAIN the Pro-Feeder system they installed. This is where the problems have been and are occurring.

I always have had high regard for this firm, having used them in the past. But their service seems to be getting worse. I have 2 sprinkler heads that have dirt in them and they want to replace the whole head instead of just trying to clean them out. It is not about the money, it is about the principle. It largely depends on what service technician comes out. I had a good technician earlier in the year, today had one that was less than helpful and a little bit argumentative.

Randy came out to do our start up in May. Very knowledgeable and professional. He went through the entire system with my husband and they walked through everything.
Description of Work: We had them winterize our system and look over the entire system since the former contractor, Nicholson's Irrigation, (I would never, ever recommend them to anyone) would not honor their warrenty. They also came out in the spring to go over everything and do the start up. Very professional and we would recommend them to anyone, anytime.

I always have them set my system down but I don't have them start it up in the spring. The service man last fall opened up my controller and took a wire and undid it so it was a loose wire. I went to start it up this spring and it would not start up. I'll never do business with Grapids Irrigation again. Prior to that, interactions with them had been fine.

We are sorry for the lack of communication on this. We always remove all Master Valve wires for pumps, iron treatment, etc. for the winter on all the systems we service. This is a one more safety so the well, pump, or injector can't turn on throughout the winter and ruin something else in the system. It was most certainly intentional, but definitely not meant to be harmful. Our technician should have better communicated this, we apologize.

The service went very well. I am very pleased with the sprinkling system, and it has been good. My friend who works for them answered a lot of questions, and that saved us a lot of money. They do trenching, tiling, and system water blow out, and I am sure they do more. I am very satisfied with them, I would recommend them.
Description of Work: We used Grapids Irrigation, we did a semi self installation, and they did the rest. Since it was a do it yourself, the installation was done a month before we moved into the house, and they basically just pulled the pipe, and did some of the water main hook ups.
