+ -1 moreI didn't think I'd see that much of a difference till the cold weather comes, but boy, was I mistaken! Our electric bills from the constant running of our central air conditioning came down over $100 in 1 month. Plus, the rooms were more comfortable immediately.
Description of Work: After emptying the attic, the existing floor boards were lifted, foam baffles were added to increase the amount of insulation that could be blown in. The attic doors were insulated as well as 14 "high hat" flush ceiling lights in the rooms below the attic. That was a lot of cold air "leaking” into our living space. Some old insulation was removed from the side walls and crawl space because it wasn't installed correctly back in the 70's. Those areas were also re-insulated.

+ 0 moreI asked him to refund my money, minus the $130 for the feasibility study, because I do feel like they deserve that since they did do the study. However, since he never relayed the information to the worker until he arrived for the job, I don't feel it was fair they charged me.
Description of Work: I called them because I wanted to know about insulation for my house because it gets cold in the winter time. He came out and did a feasibility study on 7/9/2012. Two employees came out and went to my thid floor and attic, and collected all the necessary information. They determined they needed to create an access point into a previously inaccessible cavity. They also needed to install baffle vents and upgrade a wall to be more energy efficient. On 8/10/12 they came back to do work. They went up to put the insulation in the attic, but then came back down and informed me they could not insulate up there due to the age of the house and the electrical wires. I called the man who did the proposal, and he said he was aware of the old wires, but he had never conveyed it to the workers. I told the workers to go ahead and do what they could given the new circumstance. He then relayed to me he could not do the bedroom due to "knob and tube" wiring there as well. I then gave him permission to try and do it on the other side of the house, but once again, they were unable to. They instead put paneling on the walls, but it looked like there were childrens finger prints all over it. It looked nasty! They had to come back and clean it for me. They then said they would send me information on an electrician, and refunded me the money for the feasibility study. I then asked if it made sense that the knob and tube wiring was also in the walls. I never heard back from them. I think that since he knew the wiring was in the attic, he should have known it was in the walls. I would love to be able to get a refund. I am in the same position I was in before, if not worse.

They didn’t try to sell us unnecessary things, and gave us a recommendation to switch electric providers. They did a thorough job and were very honest.

+ 0 moreMark group arrived at 8 am as promised, this also happened on the hottest day of the month, they never stopped until the job was completed. They cleaned up as they worked and left my house like they were never here. very satisified with their work and professionalism
Description of Work: I had Mark Group out for an energy audit, once the inspection was complete they recommended adding 2' rigid board insulation plus additional insulation in attic, which would bring our R value to 49 or higher, they air sealed all areas of the attic and basement including duct work. I also had a floor installed in attic which gives me additional storage. Mark Group arrived on time and completed the job as promised, the men were professional and courtious,and I would highly recommend them and use them again in the future.

+ -1 moreThe original estimator for Mark Group apparently provided inaccurate information to the company. A second estimator returned with the first estimator and did a thorough reassessment (spending several hours going over the home with a fine tooth comb). When the workers arrived, they realized the situation and that the work contracted for could not be completed. They called their office and reported the situation at which time the field manager arrived to explain the situation. Overall, this was a very disappointing situation. I did appreciate the honesty of the field manager and on-site workers. As they had with a previous Angie's member, they informed me that both gentlemen were no longer employed by Mark Group.

Appreciated that when the workers arrived and realized the situation, they immediately called their office and reported the situation. They were honest with me about the situation and that the gentleman was no longer employed by Mark Group. They gave me a new estimate which was lower than the original. The job took longer than originally estimated due to several problems that arose. I felt very badly for the workers because it was getting very hot in the attic. They completed the job and did a very good job. They missed a hidden window in the basement and when I called them they sent another team out to insulate around the window. Everyone was very polite and professional and I was pleased with the work they did.
Description of Work: Installed insulation in attic and air sealed the openings in the foundation and around windows in the basement per an energy audit done by another company.

John, who came out to look at the project, was both professional and informative. He quickly got back to me with a detailed estimate, and seemed able to easily pull together different facets of a complicated insulation project. While I decided to go with a different company, it was a difficult decision, and I would definitely consider them again!
Description of Work: The project was to tighten and insulate the house. The Mark Group helped fine tune the specifics involved and prioritize components, and gave me a detailed estimate.

+ 0 moreThey were very prompt, very professional, very polite and pleasant. They cleaned up after themselves. I cannot yet say if the insulation is making a difference - the coming winter will determine that. In the meantime, I've noticed one or two very small places in my basement where I can still see slivers of daylight, so I don't think they were as careful as they might have been. But overall, I think they did a very good job, based on the appearance of their work. I think they charged me an awful lot, however. When their representative came for the assessment, he told me the job would take two days. At that point, he gave me the estimate, and I agreed to the price, which was high. But I figured - OK two days' work for a crew of guys, whatever. However, the team finished the job in one day. Not even a long day - they were done by like 3 pm. So there was substantially less labor involved than I'd been led to expect when I received the estimate.
Description of Work: The Mark Group insulated my basement and attic. A different company performed an energy audit on my home and recommended the addition of foam insulation in my basement and attic. The Mark Group reviewed that auditor's report and came in and did a brief assessment, after which they agreed with the auditor's findings. They sent a crew in to spray foam insulation in my attic and basement.

The crew did accidently blow installation into our heating and cooling system, but Mark Group responded to our concern quickly when we found installation in a register. They cleaned up their mistake thoroughly, apologized, and were professional about the situation. Another smaller issue was that they didn’t secure the piping insulation tightly enough, so my husband had to retighten some of their work. Again, I did think they were professional, and I thought their price was fair.
Description of Work: They conducted an energy audit, and then performed a few energy efficiency upgrades as a result. This work included new insulation.

+ 0 moreThe folks at The Mark Group came out and did a thorough inspection of my home and suggested how some energy saving improvements could be made. Their list was detailed and a price for each item listed separately. I was expecting it to be considerably more so pleasantly surprised when I saw the quote. I gave them the OK and they were out the day they said they were going to be. The foreman of the job said it would probably be more than one day after seeing what was involved. They were neat and very respectful of my home. The foreman even said that one of the items on the list wasn't going to improve efficiency but had a suggestion for another part of the house which was considerably less in cost than the item he said wasn't necessary. The person that came out to give the original quote even said that he couldn't see through the wall but if the guys coming out to do the work deemed it not necessary they wouldn't do it. That added a lot of credibility to the company. The second day the guys returned and finished the job. After looking at the electric and gas bills after they did the improvements compared to before I can truly say that I am saving money and not wasting energy like I was. I was thoroughly happy with the experience from start to finish.
Description of Work: Added insulation to areas lacking it. Putting an insulation blanket on the crawl space walls. Sealing off a lot air leaks. Making an insulated cover for the pull down staors to the attic.
