Wilcox Lawn Care

I've been very busy with work lately so for Father's Day 2022 I was given a gift of lawn care service for the season as to take some of my tasks off of my plate. I haven't had a lawn care service since about 15 years ago when my wife and I rented a duplex. Back then that lawn care service would mow every week at the same day and time. I was expecting something similar, maybe not as frequent, but at least something like a set schedule. Wilcox Lawn Care was about the furthest thing from what I was expecting for lawn care. They would show up whenever they felt like it, some times going 3-4 weeks between mows. When we would call they'd say "The grass isn't growing right now", ok great but the weeds haven't stopped growing and our yard is becoming an eyesore. Furthermore those weeds have attracted grubs which have attracted moles - problems I never had when I would mow the lawn myself. Twice my wife and I had to mow the lawn ourselves because it had become so embarrassing. One time it had been over 4 weeks, so I mowed it myself, and Wilcox showed up the next day and basically drove around over the grass I had already cut. Of course we were still charged for it. Wilcox did a decent job of mowing when they would finally get around to showing up. But the fact that we couldn't count on them defeats the entire purpose of paying for lawn care service! The whole experience was a huge disappointment. The "gift" of lawn service only added to my stress level. I could have saved my mom the money for the gift and not mowed the lawn myself and achieved pretty much the same result. Not only would I not rehire Wilcox, they have turned me off to the idea of lawn service entirely. I'll do it myself going forward.
