The majority of our project was finished as expected and we were able to move in with out any issues. Other than a couple unforeseen complications which were immediately taken care of, everything went smoothly, was finished on time and the work completed was excellent.
Description of Work: I found Motor City Builders using Angie's List to do renovation work to our new home. To much of our surprise we discovered that many of our soon to be neighbors already had work done to their homes by Motor City and they came highly recommended. We hired Motor City to redo most of our downstairs flooring, installing new counter tops/sink and baseboards. They also completely renovated our master bath and did several other miscellaneous jobs to our home.

What was a covered porch has become, basically, an addition to our condo. The room is fully insulated, finished walls and ceiling with trim, 3 new wall lights (sconces) and an outdoor light, door and back steps with railing, six double hung heavy duty windows, carpeting and pad. Exterior is finished with salvaged siding (to match/blend the north side) and cedar shakes on the west side to perfectly match condo trim; skirting was completed from salvaged floor of covered porch (salvaged floor also used for steps). Electric baseboard heat. I/we furnished the light fixtures and the paint. Motor City worked/complied with all requests from our condo association. All workers, all sub contractors were the best and completely professional, mindful of and courteous to us, the owners. We obtained three quotes, one less than half of our final cost and the other almost identical to Motor City. I/we were impressed from the first meeting with Dave to the end of the project. If I/we could give a triple A rating, I/we would! Awesome - it is now the best part of our condo, truly.
Description of Work: Enclosed, insulated, and finished a covered porch.

My house is a multistory house with a large drop off in the back due to walk out basement. From start to finish my experience was an excellent one. Dave came out and discussed what I wanted to do with me. He made some very helpful suggestions (like color for one lol) which I ended going with. The work crew came out and were very professional with their custom construction of corner caps and other sections...very impressive as there was very little waste from what I could tell. It looked like they took the time to do it right - the first time. In short, I would definitely consider using Motor City Builders again!

I wanted to use someone within city limits, so I asked them for estimate. They had a good rating on Angie's List also. I chose them not only because their estimate was reasonable, but also because Dave, the owner, explained everything very well. I liked his honesty and he was serious about the quality of work done by his crew.

matt came to our house to see what we were trying to accomplish with an upcoming kitchen remodel. He spent time understanding our lifestyle, measuring and explaining how the process would work. He came up with some great ideas that would better utilize our space. After the initial design, he made some modifications based on our feedback.

I chose Motor City Builders because Dave was the only one who actually went up on the roof prior to giving me his bid. He found a hole around the chimney and said the spot needed a saddle. MCB's price was higher than the other 2, but I felt confident the job would be done right due to Dave's thoroughness in his inspection. The roofers were polite and professional. They had to come back a second day due to the amount of plywood they needed to replace. They cleaned up the area very well and the dumpster was removed the following day. The new gutter was installed several days later. The installers arrived around 5:30 in the evening but soon discovered they didn't have enough material to complete the job. They said they would go to the wholesaler in the morning and be back around 8:30 AM. They arrived about 11:00, but finished in less than an hour. Included in the agreed upon bid was "build new chimney saddle". Repairs requiring additional plywood for the roof were specified as "not in bid". There was no such specifications attached to the chimney saddle. While they were in the process of roofing I asked the crew chief about the saddle and he said the flashing would do the job. When Dave came to pick up the final payment I took him outside and showed him there was no saddle. He said it was his fault for not telling the crew. He assured me that the flashing would do the same thing. We came back in the house and as I prepared to write out the check I asked if there could be a price adjustment ($57.00) due to the fact that the saddle was in the original bid. Dave said, "Well, I didn't charge you for it anyway". There was NO indication in the bid that the saddle would be an additional expense. I do not feel that I was treated fairly.
Description of Work: A new roof was installed. Per the original proposal, all old shingles and can vents were removed. Bad plywood was replaced (cost not in original bid). Drip edge, ridge vent, felt paper, shingles and gutter were installed.

The estimate I was given was the lowest that I received. The owner explained to me his pricing strategy and it made a lot of sense. He required a 50% payment up front and informed me that installation would be in 3 - 4 weeks. It actually took 6 weeks for them to do the job, this was the only thing that I could complain about. On the day of the installation the workers arrived early and worked until they were finished. The install only took one day, they were done before I got home from work at 3:00pm. The yard had been cleaned up and looked great. A dumpster was delivered the night prior and promptly removed before 5:00pm the day of installation. The roof itself looks amazing. I would not hesitate to hire them again or recommend them to a friend.
Description of Work: Motor City Builders replaced my roof. They did a complete tear off of the old roof, replaced all of the flashing and installed a new peak vent.

This homeowner had a new roof and siding by another company and was not happy with the work. She called me (Dave) for answers on how to repair it. I told the homeowner that I would inspect her roof. She wanted to know if we could repair the roof for a few thousand dollars. I thought maybe so I told her for $200.00 dollar fee I would have my roofer come over and inspect the roof she said yes please do. I call my roofer Mike and her came right out with in the hour. He spent quite awhile on the roof and gave her a honest answer the roof was beyond repair. She asked me to state that in a email so she could give it to her lawyer. I emailed it to her that same night. Once she got my email she cancelled the check. I stilled paid Mike the $200.00 for his time.

This is my second review as he also reroofed our house, garage and shed. His crew was great on both jobs. This time he sent two different crew members who specialize in windows. They measured our window and ordered a new one for us. His crew was promptly on time and knew what they were doing. Our old window was fogged so badly it was hard to see threw it because the window was chipped breaking its seal. We couldnt be more pleased with the new window. It looks great and all of my wife's plant were carefully not stepped on. Yes we would hire Daves crew again. I will try to add pictures.

All workers were professional. Cleaned up after each day and when the work was finished. The contractor miss quoted the cement work. He missed adding gravel to build up area to make it level. When I talked to the owner who quoted he told the workers to do what ever it took to do the job right. I decided to split the cost of the gravel with him.

We have been thinking about redoing the kitchen for some time now and took advantage of the special deal for design consultation the minute we got the email from Angie, and we're glad we did. Although we are just at the beginning of a long process of discussing idea's, collecting information and developing budgets our meeting with Matt give's us confidence in the process going forward. He's knowledgeable, easy to talk and stayed while we ramble on and on about this oven we'd seen, or this sink we hate, or that thing we need for the one party we throw each year. As I suspect you know if you're contemplating a kitchen remodel, they can be expensive and disruptive, and they will change one of the busiest rooms in your house. So we all want to get it right. Not only do I think Matt will help us get what we want for a fair price, I didn't feel any pressure to schedule the job for next month. In fact he encouraged us to take time to look at other kitchens, or go to design studio's, or whatever it took to get it right. I like not being rushed.

The gentleman from Motor City Builders had great ideas on how to improve the kitchen design. He showed us a design that I never even thought of. He paid attention to detail, was prompt, and was very much a gentleman. He also worked to keep our expenses down. He is probably one of the smartest, most observant people I've ever worked with. Due to my husband's not being well, I reluctantly have to delay the start of this kitchen remodeling. I would certainly have hired him to do the work. At the first opportunity I will hire him, hopefully in the near future.l
Description of Work: He made a detailed plan, and a series of drawings , that will greatly improve the use and function of our kitchen. His suggestions will make our kitchen easier to use the stove, and work around the other appliances. Our present arrangement is badly designed. For example if one of our family members is at the stove, the kitchen sink is blocked from others who want to use it.

I have been saving for my dream kitchen, and it seems that I was not going to get it. I would not use Motor City Builders, unless you are very open to being told what you want.
Description of Work: I signed up for the Angie's Deal for kitchen design as we are looking for a contractor to do a major kitchen remodel. When David arrived (late) it became apparent that he has some sort of relationship with Merrilat Cabinets and did not want to use the ones I had selected which are fully assembled solid wood cabinets and had the features I want such as a desk, lighted cabinets with glass, open shelves. I walked him through the appliances I wanted which were a large french door fridge, a drop in countertop oven, a double wall oven, a dishwasher and NO built-in microwave. Also a corner sink. When the plans were drawn, there was no desk as it appears Merilat does not have one. The sink was in the wrong place. There was no range and wall oven, but instead a standard stove with a microwave above it in the wrong spot!

I called went I running late. The cabinets see wanted me to use I never heard of and were from out of state. Wes my kitchen designer did two drawings they were both nice. One of them was spot on what she asked for in a design. I emailed them to her and had set up a follow up appointment to go over the drawings. She cancelled the appointment. This homeowner for some reason was difficult to work with. Wes my kitchen designer is one of the best with a little cooperation from the homeowner he would have got in perfect. It usually will take two or more designs to get the final results. Some people just don't get it. I do thank all my customers for all the nice complements. We at MCB work hard to do our very best.

Dave is very professional. He was on time for inspection and estimate. Explained all he need to do and how and when it would be done. HIs crew was great and fast. Covered all our plants (wife was concerned) and picked up after they were done. They also replaced some rotted plywood at a reasonable extra charge. Dave came back at end of job to inspect and make sure it was done to his standards. Roof looks great , flashing is much better and we are happy with Motor City Builders. He is going to have the center window of our bay window replaced and I will give another review after he finishes that job. Thanks Dave and crew for a great job.

This is a follow up to our initial review. The work was completed just before Thanksgiving and we love the new kitchen. Ryan and Matt were terrific; very professional, polite, personable and easy to get along with. Job site was cleaned up every day! Dave Poirier, the owner, stopped by every day to check on the progress and to answer any questions we had about what was being done. Had a few snags along the way but everything turned out great. The job did take a little longer than planned because the cabinet supplier had sent the wrong (or even forget a couple) cabinets and we had to wait for those to come in. Dave estimated about six weeks for completion and without the snafu of the cabinets, which made the granite installation delayed, it would have been on point. With the farm sink, granite surface, backsplash and the two tone cabinets and wood flooring, the kitchen turn out just beautiful. The dining room was a total oldie. We had the paneling removed, refinished and painted all surfaces and installed a chair rail, installed radiate heat and wood floors. Completely different room now. In half bath, removed old tile, installed radiate heat and the wood-look ceramic tile to match the dining room and kitchen.
Description of Work: Remodel of a 1970's kitchen and dining room. Installation of heated floors in dining room and half bath. Took out old carpeting and linoleum and replaced with wood floors. Also, electrical update from 100 to 200 amp, generator outlet and 220 installed in garage.

Matt's plans started flawlessly, however because of poor homeowner planning, it was decided to add both treads and risers to the project. Matt recalculated the plans that first night, and the revised plans were given the green light for next day. Both Matt and Ryan worked on Saturday to make up for delayed start (due to weather) and was greatly appreciated. In all, Matt and Ryan did an absolutely beautiful job creating a beautiful stair project in just 5 1/2 days. Hats off to the MCB Team; specifically Matt and Ryan for the job well done! Count me as an absolutely satisfied customer.

Dave called promptly to schedule app't. I live in Brighton so its a good hour plus drive from Flint. Showed him my master bath and he was kinda quiet. Told me I have a very nice house. If were his, he wouldn't do anything to the master bath. If potential buyer wanted the house, bathroom wouldn't be issue. (Bath is 12 feet x 16 feet, currently has jetted tub, shower, linen closet, double sinks and toilet has its own "room"). Counter tops are currently marbelite, mirrors are small and don't show well). I pressed Dave re:ballpark for granite top, change out lights and current shower. Dave looked around, threw out figures for each of upgrades and said he'd be happy to do work if I wanted it done, but honestly didn't see anything that would stop a buyer. I chuckled. Thanked him for his honest opinion and evaluation. Best $49 I've spent in long time. Dave is just kind of contractor I'd love to do business with. I would not hesitate for a heartbeat to have work for me. (wish he had a realtor license, think he'd be awesome)
