Description of Work: Motor City Builder Review | We found Dave from Motor City Builders on Angie's List in Aug of 2014, we wanted a second quote for our home addition. He came with great reviews and continued to point out that he was one of Angie's best. Our initial meeting was 8/16/14. He brought a book and told us that when he quotes he develops a detailed book that will show where all costs are and there will be no questions or surprises during this process. We discussed our thoughts for the projects and he gave us some suggestions to help cut the costs. During this meeting we gave him our budget of $300,000 for an addition of approximately 1,500 square feet and gutting our existing 1,500 sq ft home, this would include a new kitchen. When we were going to be done it would be approximately a 3,000 sq ft home completely renovated. He suggested we work with his architect, he warned us that the architects like to design these beautiful homes that were unbuildable or out of budget. He explained that he often has to reel them into help manage the budget. We were apprehensive to give the architect the entire $4,000 that was being requested but after working with them we were very happy with the way the project was progressing and paid the $4,000 with the expectation that we had a design within budget. |We received initial plans on September 2, 2014. During this period Dave was bringing in different trades in to help develop his quote. We continued to work with the architect going back and forth on the design and around beginning of November we received prints for a beautiful home that looked just perfect. Throughout this process it was our understanding Dave was watching the budget. Dave wanted everything complete on this design up to the location of the outlets and lighting. We were expecting a quote from Dave around Thanksgiving, however Thanksgiving came and went, no quote. We talked to Dave, he said he was still working on it, we were concerned about budget and told him if it exceeded $400,000 we were out of our budget. On January 9th 2015 we finally received budget for $427,000 of this $75,000 was Motor City Builder Management fee - 17% on top of their labor. He adds his management fee on your kitchen cabinets even if you are paying to have them installed and the higher end you are planning the more profit for Dave. In addition this did not include painting. We then suggested we cut back and do this project in phases, and add out instead of up. Dave said we needed to pay the architect another $2,000 to $4,000 for the new prints. We agreed to continue working and had the architect redraw a base design to get a new quote. We never got the detailed book that Dave talked so highly about, he was unable to work with the architect to get plans in our budget. |The last straw was when you sent an email to his architect and accidently copied my husband - stating that we were arrogant and did not get the clue that he did not want our job. We only paid the money to the architect to get the process started. |

Description of Work: Just in the planning stages right now, but service is friendly and prompt, and they are willing to go the extra mile. Like that this is a family owned business.

Description of Work: Removed at least two layers of old shingles, repaired some sheathing (boards), and put new shingles on. Clean-up was immaculate and the job looks great! Had some delays in scheduling and installation - which is usually normal in this business, but some due to head guy being on vacation. Overall, very pleased.

Description of Work: Put a roof on my house and garage. It was quick and quality work one they got started. It was about 10 weeks before they got started. I knew they were 6 weeks behind when I purchased the service but weather and holidays delayed it more.

Description of Work: Added a full combination bathroom/laundry room in my basement, converted my existing garage into a beautifull craft room for my wife and build me a 54x26 foot garage which includes a full loft with stairway access and 12 foot high walls. He also leveled all my floors in the old garage and the exsisting family room.
