Hard Rock Construction

We would recommend using Hard Rock Construction for any of your concrete projects. We had a 8' wide two-track gravel driveway about 163' feet long located near downtown Fenton. Mitch and his crew did a great job of clearing the old and replacing it with a new 10' wide concrete driveway. They stayed on schedule, managed their equipment use well in a tight neighborhood, and cleaned everything up after reach day. We are quite happy with the finished project and the work they did. Mitch was easy going, responsive to inquiries and reasonably priced. We would use them again if another concrete projects arises.

My concrete driveway was completed at the end of September and I cannot say I am even close to being 100 percent satisfied with the results and the way it looks. I asked the owner Mitch Tannehill multiple times to come out to see if its appearance could be remedied and so far, he has not indicated a date he will come. The driveway was given a brush finish, but the surface has noticeable swirls in it and the brush finish has disappeared in many areas. Think of cake frosting. It also looks blotchy. I feel that the job was a bit rushed because cement pouring began late in the day on the same day of excavation of the old driveway and there was no time to remedy the problems that arose. The owner told me that pouring would take place on the second day. At the curb side, where I had stressed we wanted a good-looking widened approach, there was a bad section that should have been or was discovered at the time the of excavation of the old asphalt driveway. Instead, shortcuts were taken due to the rushed job - the old curb was not properly prepared before the cement arrived. The bad section had to be patched the next day and as a result, we do not have a continuous apron. It sticks out like a sore thumb, and some of the concrete patch has crumbled at a now out of place seam along the curb. A sprinkler supply line that fed the sprinklers located in an area where we expanded the driveway was not identified by the crew and, later in the week during winterization of our system, we were told by our sprinkler company that it is most likely under the driveway. I feel it was a prime responsibility of the contractor to locate the supply line. This was a system in place long before we bought our house. Isolation joints between two paved paths that abut the driveway were not used, so we have squiggly lines in these areas which make for a less than tidy look. Finally, our electronic dog fence lines had to be cut on either side of the driveway (as we expected) and the crew did lay new lines underneath, but they did not properly mark the locations. We had to pay one hundred and thirty dollars to our dog fence company to find where the connecting lines were. This last issue is the least of all the problems I mentioned, but everything adds up to a less than satisfactory job and an expensive lesson for us â seven thousand and one hundred and fifty dollars - that cannot be remedied unless the owner decides to come out, take a look, and decide what can be done to improve the appearance of the driveway. I suggested to him that it might be best for him to come out sooner rather than later because maybe the appearance could be improved before the concrete cured too much. He said he would come over to look but never did. I have waited until now to submit my review because I kept hoping he would get back with me once the weather turned bad.

Quick quote. Tore out old asphalt driveway and approach between garden and grass. VERY careful. Minimum encroachment, easy repair. Professional employees led by Mitch made suggestions to improve the layout as they set the forms, then poured the concrete and finished it beautifully. They scheduled the work for no disruption of adjacent school traffic. Excellent people with whom to work. He has a five star reputation for a reason.

Mitch and his crew were amazing! They were responsive, took care with the job, even to the point of using some of the sod/dirt they dug up to fill in some low areas in the yard. They poured and stamped the concrete on day one. The next day they came back to power wash, then came a few days later to seal. I absolutely LOVE the final product, which is a perfect patio in my yard. It came out even better than I imagined, and it was painless from a homeowner's point of view. They cleaned up nicely. All I had to do was put the furniture on it and enjoy!
