All I asked was for a call to discuss refinishing a hardwood flow in my home. I called and was not able to leave a message because the mailbox was full. The message rattled of some information about a website. I was not able to capture the information. Then I used Angie's List messaging to get a response...nothing. Not one peep, and the message is still sitting there.

Just when I had succumb to the fact that all tradesman we're just ok and lacked either customer service or follow through, I met Victor with MI Hardwood Floors. I had seen great reviews on AL, so I gave Victor a call and honestly just needed a second quote to see if the first was in line. Well Victor stole the show. It began with Victor helping my mother in law with a box that needed to be brought into the house. It continued with Victor providing a quote that night and starting the job next day. I always have a ton of questions and want to know how the sausage is made, and he explained everything thoroughly. On top of that, because I am not currently living in the same state, Victor sent me multiple updates over texts, as well as pictures daily. Excellent, couldn't be happier. Victor is efficient. He completed the entire job in 4 days (1700 sqft) he removed carpet, sanded/patched and stained our hardwood floors. The floors look brand new. He repainted the trim and added molding. He is very responsive and great to work with.

Victor Mulbauer is the owner of the company and a NWFA Master Craftsman that performed the work. He was able quote the job and complete it within a week's time - something that was crucial to us as we were moving into our new home. His price was very reasonable and his professionalism was outstanding. He was there when he said he would be and performed the job as promised. Following each day's work he took pictures and sent them to my phone to note his progress. He brought in packages that were delivered to the home and cleaned up each day. He advised that I replace some stained boards for fear that we wouldn't be happy with the final job. The floors are SO beautiful that I didn't even want to walk on them. I wanted to put glass in the doorways like they do in museums so you can see into the room but can't walk inside. Seriously. Everyone has commented on how beautiful the floors are. That, in and of itself, is enough to give Victor A+ and recommend him and his work to others, but it was also a pleasure from start to finish working with Victor. He is a perfectionist, which really shows in his finished products. He is professional, and knows more than anyone else I have ever spoken with, about hardwood floors - installation, care, etc. He and his helpers are punctual, friendly and conscientious. I thought the pricing was fair, and I definitely got my money's worth. We hired Michigan Hardwood Floors to sand and finish the worn and mismatched oak floors in our 1920's house, and we could not be happier with the professionalism, expertise, care, and final result provided by the owner, Victor Mulbauer. Victor found a way to meet our schedule, began work on a Friday, worked over the weekend, and our floors were 100% ready to move everything back Monday evening. We opted for a dark stain and the UV Cure finish in satin, which allowed for the 100% cure versus "traditional" water-based finish which would have taken a few more days before being able to move furniture back. Overall we are extremely pleased with the work Victor provided. It was great knowing that there were not groups of different workers coming and going to our home, he was the only one and we could tell we could trust him in our home. The floors turned out fantastic, all cracks and holes were filled in, and the color and finish is uniform. I'm writing a lengthy review because I think some others were looking for just cheap work, while the work we were provided was exceptional quality, by a professional passionate about his trade. Starting with quoting, we dealt directly with, and only with the owner. During quoting, he was very particular with the temperature and humidity of the house and we talked a little about his training, certifications, and the types of equipment he uses. Judging by his questions regarding our house, and his only using high quality tools and materials, we could tell that he was ultimately focused on the long-term quality of his work, he wanted to make sure that the floor would be taken care of, and explained how the environmental conditions of the house can affect the floor and the finish. We received a quote via email a few days later. This process seemed a little slow considering we emailed again to ask for a quote, but understandable considering he is the primary (if not only) person working on every job, not just quoting. Our timeline for the project was not the normal 2-3 months that were recommended to us by others for hiring and booking a contractor for refinishing floors, we needed them done in 2 weeks time. We worked back and forth on some dates, and Victor was able to complete another job ahead of time, and squeeze us in over a weekend. He sent us a contract describing the work via email and I signed and returned it. Friday morning, Victor began work sanding and filling all cracks in the floor. He used a trailer mounted dust collection system for his sander(s), and what looked to be a backpack HEPA vacuum for light cleanup. Friday afternoon when he was done, there was no dust throughout our house. Ducts did not need to be taped off, doors did not need to be covered with plastic, there was simply no dust anywhere, it was amazing. Our floors were sanded uniformly and already looked amazing compared to before. Over the weekend he finished sanding and applied stain and sealer. Monday he applied and cured the final UV topcoat finish and installed matching shoe molding around all the rooms and hallway. Each day when he was complete with the work, our house was clean, and the floors could be walked on (lightly of course). We have a cat that we moved out of the house during the work, but otherwise we could have returned to our home and stayed each night. There was a slight smell with the sealers and finish, but nothing terrible (especially compared to other finishes), and the products all carried low or no VOC certifications. At completion, we were sent information on how to properly clean and care for our floors, along with a follow-up to make sure we were satisfied. We read some other reviews that were critical of communication, or how jobs were (or were not) quoted, and the main thing I can say is that the owner is 100% dedicated to the quality of his work, and making sure that a job is complete. He is trained and certified in the products he uses, and we talked a little about how he continues expanding his professional expertise through industry classes (you can find him on NWFA website) which really made him stand out as a true professional that wanted to ensure 100% satisfaction. I of course had multiple quotes for our job, some provided over phone with simple $/sq ft price and no explanation, some by people who visited and gave a $/sq ft, very little info on what they used material wise, and could not tell what crew or people would even be doing the work. We couldn't justify using these other companies because we were not convinced they would provide a great result. Some other companies that were recommended to us simply could not fit us in with the schedule we required. We chose Victor because we felt immediately that he would provide a great result, and we are confident that anyone who hires him will be as happy as we are.

I expected excellent service based on all the reviews I read on Angie's list, but I have to say that my expectations were exceeded. Victor is very professional and knowledgable. After he already started doing the work we agreed on, we decided to ask him to also refinish the floors under the linoleum in 2 bedrooms, bathroom and a bedroom (we weren't aware at first there was hardwood underneath). We also weren't aware of the hideous 1/2 inch thick tar-looking glue that was applied through the entire surface underneath the linoleum and was beyond hard to remove, and neither was Victor. When he started working it turned out that it will take several days to remove the glue. Victor brought additional workers and simply said "I promised I am going to finish it and I will do it". He had to stay in our house for 3 days longer than he planned due to this unexpected problem. After he finished everything floors looked beautiful, but then the next day we had an AC leak that ruined the floor in one of the rooms. Victor came back, cleaned the water stain and refinished the floor at no extra cost. The stain is completely invisible, and our floor is beautiful again. I can't say enough good things about our experience with Victor. I will be recommending him to our friends and family.

Victor responded promptly to my request for a quote and showed up on time for the appointment. However, he declined to discuss the job or bid on the job after I showed him that my contractor had replaced some boards in the hallway that had been water damaged. Victor is not the first floor guy we have had in to give us a quote who pointed out that the wood used was white oak and did not match the red oak of the existing floor. It is a fairly small area and we are agreeable to having whoever does the floor remove and replace it. We had to remove the boards in order to dry things our and had them replaced quickly for safety reasons. Victor kept telling me to have the contractor who replaced the boards finish the floor. I tried to explain to him that the man did not do floor finishing, but he just headed for the door and said he was not interested in the job. I tried to get him to explain to me why he would simply not include a price to remove the boards and replace them to his own specifications. He would not explain. If he didn't like the material or workmanship, I understand he would want them replaced, but the fact that he kept insisting that a contractor who is a good carpenter, but has no experience finishing floors should "complete the job" is beyond comprehension. This is a small but rather high-end, professionally decorated home in Grosse Pointe so am wondering if he thought that we wouldn't be satisfied with his services. I'm only guessing. I've had a couple other quotes and no one else seemed a bit apprehensive. Bizarre experience. Kinda put me in mind of the "soup nazi" on Seinfeld. Instead of "no soup for you" it was "no floor for you" and out the door he went.

Victor and Chris were everything you could want in someone to refinish your floors. They were professional, punctual, friendly, knowledgeable and true master craftsmen. Victor has a passion for woodworking and it shows in his quality job. We even had the extra challenge of moving into our new house while the work was still ongoing and Victor and Chris stayed late one day to finish all the sanding and filling so that the moving truck could pull in the driveway the following morning and have things go seamlessly. 10/10!

Victor is nice, honest, knowledgeable and professional. We just purchased a first floor condo, and would like to change the carpet to hardwood. Victor came on time and gave really honest opinions on having hardwood installed in our condo which is sitting on concrete without basement. He then measured the rooms and gave a detailed proposal the next day with the cost of materials, plywood, several types of hardwood and each labor separated. I really liked that He did not push at all. He was very considerable for our future satisfaction, and answered all the questions. In the end, we decided to change new carpet instead of hardwood, because it might be too cold in winter with hardwood. We will definitively hire Victor if we will install hardwood in the future.

Quick to respond to our request for estimate, he patiently answered our numerous questions prior to, & during the course of our job. He could be depended upon to arrive on time daily, work hard, then clean up after himself prior to departure. Called MICHIGAN HARDWOOD FLOORS SERVICES to get floor installed in one of the rooms. The first number was not picked up so called the second number. My plan was to get the floors installed room by room. When I mentioned this the person on the call said they will not do it. He did not ask how big the room is or provide any other information. Flatly said NO. It is a good sign that I did not go with him as there is lack of professionalism in even answering the phone let alone doing any work.

Would not give me an estimate, so I could not use.

First of all, scheduling a timely appointment was easy. Victor showed up on time and provided a quote quickly. I decided to purchase pre-finished hardwood flooring and have him install it. Long story short, I bought wood from Lumber Liquidator. He began installation and within just a few feet of installation, he brought to my attention milling issues. Huge gaps...damaged wood. Poor quality wood. Because he CARES and QUALITY is important to him, he did not want to proceed with the job. Needless to say, I was in a panic mode because I paid for bad wood and the installer was not wanting to continue the job. I was not going to accept a poor quality floor so Victor graciously offered to rip up the wood and put it back in the boxes. I am currently disputing charges with Lumber Liquidator (highly recommend you DO NOT buy from them -- my wood was high end and it was poor quality). Victor and I discussed options and I decided to have him install unfinished wood. He sanded it, stained it, added a decorative border and it is absolutely AWESOME! He was patient and kind and his quality of work is beyond what I expected. If you are thinking pre-finished to save $, time and mess, please reconsider. My floor is smooth as SILK and looks better than any floor I've ever seen. Friends and family say..."Wow!" Thank you Victor!! I appreciate your professionalism, patience and your gift for installing hardwood flooring.

Our hardwood kitchen floor was 22 years old and has never been refinished. We had delayed doing the work to a point I thought the damages was beyond repair. When Victor was done the impression was 'the floor was not refinished at all...it was replaced'. The work was nothing less than outstanding to the point would like to give my cell number if someone need further details when considering a contractor. After the previous owners moved out, we got a good first-hand look at the floors of our new house. They were solid, but clearly had not been well-cared-for in some years. Victor came out for an immediate consultation, provided a comparable quote to one of the other major providers in the area, and best of all, was able to start in a week's time, allowing us to schedule our move-in date appropriately. For the first couple of days, Victor and his associate sanded the floors and stairs, using their dust-free machines (seriously, there was no dust anywhere). They removed the old shoe molding and replaced with new wood, painting with the trim color we specified. After letting the floors breathe for a bit, they began laying down the three coats of finish. The whole process took about a week. When I returned to the house for the final walkthrough, the difference was remarkable. The floor color is deep and lustrous, the house is odor-free, and there is no dust anywhere. These guys did an astonishing job.

Victor was a very nice man, very polite and friendly. He was also very knowledgable I'm his craft and even gave us a lot of valuable insight during his short stay. I must admit though that it was difficult to understand him at times and that makes me a little hesitant to go forward with him - not because I think he'd do bad work (my guess is he would do great work) but more because I'm afraid we might misunderstand one another. The quote Victor gave was definitely on the higher end of all the quotes I received.

The floors were carpeted when I moved into the house 25 years ago. I removed the carpet myself this winter and saw the wood for the first time I was disappointed by the damage the carpet tacks and staples had done to the floors. There were many long curved dark scars across the living room floor caused by someone moving heavy furniture, I suppose. You could see where carpet layers cut straight lines across the hallway boards where they used their carpet knives. The grooves had turned dark and ugly over time. One bedroom had dark rust stain rings deep into the wood that circled around 15 or 20 padding staples all in a straight line across the middle of the floor. There was a small cloud of rust stain in the center of the room. Everything that I read online said this kind of rust was very difficult and often impossible to remove from a floor because it runs so deep into the wood. One careless carpet layer must have used a knee kicker tool to install the carpet in the master bedroom because you could see a series of deep gashes and grooves where a three pronged tool dug into the floor boards all around the baseboard. The previous owners must have painted the walls and baseboards assuming the floors would be carpeted soon because they left splattered paint around the edges. Every room had some 1 inch holes drilled into the floor near the baseboards so phone wires and TV cables could be run up from the basement. I contacted 3 re-finishers for estimates. One did not reply, and the other 2 were very similar estimates. Both would use dustless sanding and a Bona water based finish. One re-finisher was already booked for 6 weeks but Victor could start the job in 1 week. My main reason for choosing Victor was that he could start the job sooner. When Victor came to my house to do the estimate he stressed the importance of controlling the humidity for the sake of the floors. He said up front that the contract he would ask me to sign would say that he would not be held responsible for damages or problems resulting from poor temperature and humidity conditions in the house. He suggested that I buy 2 hygrometers (1 for each floor of the house) so I could start to learn how the humidity fluctuates between floors. I bought the hygrometers the next day, even before I accepted his estimate. He also suggested that I install a dehumidifier in the basement if I see the humidity goes above 55%. After our initial meeting we did all of our communication via email which was perfect for me. When I told him I wanted him to do the job, he emailed me a contract to sign (a pdf document) and asked me to send him a signed version of the contract back to him. I printed out the document, signed it and then scanned it again back into a pdf and emailed it to him on the same day. One week later Victor arrived on time to start the job. I hired movers to move all my large furniture to the garage on Tuesday (the day before Victor was scheduled to start). By Wednesday morning the house was completely empty on the first floor and I was set up in the basement with my bed, breakfast table, TV and internet so I could camp out in the basement during the job. I was glad that I didn't have to move out of the house. It took him 3.5 days. Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday morning. He spent all of his time on my job. As far as I could tell he worked alone. He parked his trailer in my drive way for the first two days. He would arrive around 8:30 in the morning and then I would leave for work. I would return around 4:30 pm so he could leave by 5:00. He never asked for keys to the house. He was always courteous, considerate, professional and dedicated. The first day we discovered that the 220 Volt, 30 amp electric socket behind my kitchen stove did not function. He needed a 220 Volt/30 amp plug for his sanding machine. He came prepared for that possibility and used his own cables and tools to make a temporary connection directly to my main circuit breaker box in the basement. He replaced damaged boards and did the first rough sanding down to the bare wood. It is truly dustless sanding. I didn't find any dust anywhere in the house. The second day he did the detail sanding around the edges and corners, filled all the holes and repaired all the damage done to floors over the past 60 years. He applied a sample of the stain he would use to a few boards in one of the bedrooms so I could see it before he did the whole house with that color. I approved of his choice of color right away. The 3rd day he applied the stain and 2 coats of Bona Traffic finish. The 4th day he did a light sanding and applied a 3rd coat of finish. Here's where I can tell you how pleased I am with Victor's work. He totally exceeded my expectations. I had only hoped that somehow the floors could be made to look okay. Acceptable. I had resigned myself to thinking I could throw a rug over the bad spots and learn to live with the parts that I couldn't cover up. Even Victor couldn't promise he could fix some of the problems in the floor. He only said he would do his best. I was simply not prepared for the results that Victor delivered. A brand new beautiful oak floor! No more damage anywhere! He eliminated every single stain, gash, gouge, ring, hole and scar. You would never know that carpeting had ever been installed in the house. These are floors I can be proud to show off. They will add much more value to my home than what I paid Victor. I am so happy! I still feel giddy when I look at the floors. I would definitely recommend Victor to refinish your floors. Since he finished the job I have installed a new dehumidifier in the basement because even with central air conditioning the hygrometers showed the humidity getting up to 65%. I have purchased several Bona products for taking care of my new beautiful floors.

Victor is a professional. He uses good dustless equipment and high quality materials. He is very careful and considerate when it comes to your residence. He keep everything protected, neat and clean. He wants to satisfy his customers. I asked of he could take a small bow out of my floor prior to starting. He renailed the floor in 2 spot with a pneumatic nailer and the bow was gone. Prior to staining he applies a filler and sanded again to remove any gaps. When it came time to choose the color of stain, he taped off 2 large areas of the newly sanded floor. He applied the stain and then dried it to be sure it shows its true color. The color that I desired was between the two applied. The next day prior to starting, Victor taped off another area and we jointly began with one stain as a "base" and added part of the other stain. Victor applied this to the newly taped area and asked if that was closer to what I wanted. I asked to add more of the second stain. We did this 3 times until the color was satisfactory. Victor was willing to do whatever it takes to get it right. Before sealing he sanded the test stain areas off and re vacuumed the floor. Following the stain application, he asked if I was satisfied prior to sealing the floor. I agreed. He finished the floor with 3 coats of near commercial quality water based polyurethane, buffing between the 2nd and 3rd coats. If you want a true professional that uses quality equipment and products then Victors your man. Highly recommended.

Victor and his crew did a great job, everything was done top notch, with great attention to detail. I would recommend them to my family and friends for any hardwood flooring needs. He worked with me during a tight schedule tog et everything ready in time for my cabinet install. They were very courteous and professional, and cleaned up thoroughly after the job was done. I was very pleased with how nice the floors look - we get lots of compliments!
