It went very well and Carl completed the project in about 4 hours. He also noticed some issues with how the deck was originally built and addressed those problems as well. He's very knowledgable, personable, honest and easy to work with. Great experience.

Carl came to my house along with his relative, to listen to what I wanted (a custom, wood entertainment center). He took measurements and showed me some examples of wood and colors etc. He said it would be two months or thereabouts before they could start the project. He quoted me a ballpark price . I agreed. I also agreed to wait until they were free to do the work...assuming he really meant 2 months. I have not heard from him since. That was April 29 and today is Sept. 11. A simple phone call at the two month mark would have been nice. Those are the facts. I'm sure they do good work once they get started but their communication is seriously lacking. I cannot comment on their workmanship. The job was never started.

We love our deck. Carl listened to what we wanted and also contributed design ideas to come up with our new deck plan. His price seemed fair considering the high quality and expense of the Azek product. He kept in regular communication with us regarding timeline. He also put everything in writing for us so we were all on the same page. It took about 1 1/2 weeks to complete the project, due to rain. The project included tearing off the old deck and then building the new deck . Carl and his crew are highly skilled and they worked diligently. They were polite, professional, and consulted with us if they had questions or came up against something unexpected. They cleaned up thoroughly when finished. We love our new deck and are impressed with the quality of workmanship and attention to detail. I recommend Carl and would hire him again.

I wanted to replace a 10 x 12 deck with a 14 x 16 deck . Met with Carl in early July when he provided a quote. After getting 2 other quotes, I chose Carl. He told me what work he had lined up before my job and he gave me a date as to when he could start (weather permitting). Called the week before and told me he was on track for that date. The day he was scheduled to start, it rained (of course, this is Michigan). He started the job the following day. He showed up each morning at the time he told us he'd be there. Three days later, we have a beautiful deck. Nice man, very professional, did what he said he would do when he said he'd do it. We are very pleased with his work. I would highly recommend him.

Carl is very responsive, pleasant, knowledgeable and reliable. He showed up when he said and put in a full days work and sometimes more. His crew is also very professional and pleasant to work with. The installation was solid and looks beautiful. We made an addition to the original specs and while we are waiting for parts to complete it, there was not a problem and we are sure it will be done perfectly. Carl miscalculated on the materials estimate on the original bid, but stood by his quote. Not many contractors would do that. I would recommend Carl to anyone and would use him again for carpentry work.

Very nice man. Explained he is very busy and cannot take on anymore work at this time, unless I chose to wait. I decided not to.

Carl, his Son and Pete did a fantastic job. I couldn't be happier. Very professional, on time, quality work. I would highly recommend them. One added plus....they sing!!!

Carl was on-site every day through the completion of the work. He involved us in the decision to re-top the deck and walked us through the damage that became apparent once some of the boards were removed. They took the time to come back for a few minor tweaks to properly finish the project. Although the scope of the project increased significantly we were involved in that decision process. We would use them again.

Estimates were appropriate and kept within line. The work was of the highest quality and couldn't have been better if Carl was working on his own home. Carl, and his colleague, Pete, proved themselves to be friendly, reliable, trustworthy and respectful, cleaning up as they went. They went above and beyond what we expected - and we intend to keep them on speeddial for future work and for referrals for friends. They do extraordinary work and we would recommend them without a second's hesitation.

Carl Zatsick Carpentry is a top notch pro man. The deck was 20' x 15'. He is a good man, he doesn't rip you off and he does a good job. Everything was done really well, the work was done good. I had the lumber brought in locally and he took back some of the lumber which he said was not good and he is a very conscientious guy and you can't go wrong with him. I use him for any home work that I need to have done.

We met with Carl in early Sept. 2012 after having already interviewed several contractors to build our deck. He was on time & professional at the first meeting. We already had a deck design & plans made, we just needed someone to build it. He reviewed the plans with us, pointed out a couple things that he thought could be done better/differently & explained why he felt that way. He got back to us in a timely manner in regards to the actual estimate, & if he had questions in the meantime, he called to clarify with us. He provided us with several references where we could look at his work. After looking at his work & talking with two of the homeowners, we decided to hire him. We contacted Carl again, he came out to the house for us to sign the contract. We were given an estimated start date, which ended up getting moved back a few times due to weather, holidays, a previously scheduled vacation, etc. He did however, keep us informed of the tentative start date. It took roughly 20 calendar days to complete our deck, but there were multiple weather delays during that time. During the building of the deck, we had a couple minor issues that we wanted addressed, as far as some nails that were not hammered in all the way, & some split wood on the steps. Carl did correct those items to our satisfaction. Another issue that we did not bring up to him, but would have liked to have seen corrected, were some split stringers for the stairs. We did not bring it up because they were already installed & secured to the frame. The initial final inspection did not pass due to missing blocking between the joists, near the house. We informed Carl of this & he returned to correct it. The deck did pass final inspection after that. Overall, we had a very professional & good experience working with Carl & would definitely recommend him.

Carl was punctual and professional. He was very detailed with his estimate. It was a bit more than we wanted to spend, though.

Carl removed existing doors and hardware and installed 2 new exterior doors with frames, which involved significant skill and experience as the orginal doors didn't fit very well and had shifted over the years. The new doors swing true and don't scrape the floor as the old ones did, plus they seal very well and look great! Carl also removed some extensively water damaged wood below the doorwall and surrounding a window and replaced the wood expertly with the same grain/texture and trim, matching the 20 year old existing siding and trim perfectly! I couldn't believe how well he was able to patch it up. He saved me from having to replace a whole window and he also pointed out some things I could do myself to help my house tolerate the winter better. I am so grateful for Carl's expertise; my father is a woodworker for 50 years, unable to do exterior work now, but even HE was impressed by Carl's skill and the reasonable pricing. Carl is a good communicator and although hardware store had an error with my door order and delayed the process, Carl would call frequently and follow up with me and them. He picked up the doors and all the materials himself. I give Carl my highest recommendation. I will definitely call him when I replace my deck in a couple years.

I called Carl to request a quote and he came out within a few days. Carl suggested Azec decking since we don't have much clearance between the deck and the ground and no ventilation. Azec decking is a very nice product. We have a very large deck and were on a budget. Carl recommended Northville lumber and we went there to see the decking. They had some decking that was an odd lot that they bought up and fortunately for us they had enough to do our deck. The only issue with the deck boards from this lot was the shine but it looked good to us. The project began a few days ahead of schedule which was nice. We have a two level deck, they began work on the upper deck and completed that before starting on the lower deck. We have a spiral staircase to get up to the upper deck and once they removed all the boards on the upper deck that was taken down. We had the staircase refinished while Carl and his team worked to replace the deck boards. The lower deck wraps around the side of the house, they did a nice job of tying the side deck with the back deck. Before they could complete the side deck they had to repair the wood under the sliding glass door which required them to remove some of the deck foundation boards. That project was successful and our door works much better now. I've very happy with the way it all turned out. When the deck was completed they re-installed the staircase and inserted deck boards into the steps. Carl and his team did a good job of cleaning up which is important to me. I would definitely call Carl if I have another project and would recommend him to anyone wanting a new deck or updating their existing deck.

It went just fine! Did what he told me he would do. I am very happy with my new deck! I can repeat all the good stuff said in the "A" reviews but I don't feel like typing...so what they said.

The corner of the deck had dropped, causing uneven areas which were dangerous and unsightly. We contacted Carl the previous fall to get an estimate, we had just moved in and had a lot of projects in progress, so we were not in any hurry. We got an estimate of $1000.00 and agreed to call in the spring when we were ready to start the outside projects. We contacted carl in April and agreed to the 5/1/12 date. Carl and his assistant raised the corner of the deck until it was level. One post was replaced and a new cement pad was poured. Support pieces that are attached to the house were replaced and leveled. 4 floor boards were replaced. Both gentlemen were vey polite and professional. The deck looked great and they did a good job of cleaning up before they left. We will recommend Carl to family and friends and definitely us him in the future.

Carl came out in the spring to estimate the work, arranged to meet me at the lumber yard to decide on material and colors etc. Came to my house a second time to go over details and give me an estimate.Because I was out of town most of the summer I arranged to have the job done in late Sept.Carl and Peter dismantled the old decks repaired and reinforced the existing substructure without disturbing the patio of brick pavers below the decks.They rebuilt the decks,railings and stairs in Azek material finishing the job today.They left the job site clean every day.The finished job is beautiful, the workmanship is excellant.I would recommend Carl to anyone

Carl arrived at the scheduled time to give us an estimate. He was very knowledgeable about the Azek product, and gave the reasons why he preferred this product over another one that we were considering. His estimate was on par with others that we received, but we decided to go with him because of his knowledge/experience with the product, and the fact that he worked closely with the lumber company. In the days leading up to the start of the project, including the signing of the contract, he was very accessable and answered all our questions and concerns. He also demonstrated flexibility in setting a time to meet. Most impressive was the fact that he met me at the supplier to look at various styles of railings and helped me to obtain samples to bring home. Carl and his crew arrived promptly on the starting date, and got right to work. Over the course of the project, there were several different crew members. All of them were polite and professional, and displayed a good work ethic and a positive attitude. Because the old deck was a DIY project from a prior homeowner, there were some challenges. One problem was that the underlying structure did not have enough joists, and another was that our paver bricks had pushed some boards out of alignment. Those problems were easily remedied. A bigger problem was that the deck was not square. Carl and his crew offered several solutions. We chose to solve it by running deck boards at an angle in one area of the deck, and the result was amazing! It was what I called a happy accident--it ended up looking better than it would have if we had followed our original plan. We are extremely pleased with the way the entire deck turned out. I feel I have very high standards, and all my expectations were met. On a final but very important note, I want to praise Carl for his honesty. The original contract did not specify the dumpster fee, so I paid for that at the end of the job. However, when Carl discovered that he had included the amount when he figured up the estimate, even though it was not specified in writing, he called me to let me know and sent a check to reimburse me for that amount. In addition, the lumber company refunded the cost of some unused materials to him, instead of to me, and he sent a check for that as well. I highly recommend Carl Zatsick Carpentry, and would not hesitate to hire him again.

After signing a contract on August 9th., Carl and his crew began dismantling our old deck on September 10th. For the next four days Carl and his crew completely removed the stairway, closed off the opening as planned with existing material and four new pieces of cedar to house the spindles, and removed all the rotten wood including the support boards underneath. A step was built that is independant of the deck on its own support posts that my wife says is very easy to navigate. We are delighted with the job Carl did for us and we have become fans of the way he works and the way he does business. All the superlatives used to describe his previous work are true and we also highly recommend him as well.

He was really friendly, very knowledgeable, and answered all my questions. I did not use him because I went with somebody who was less expensive.

He was very pleasant, despite the fact he drove out to my house for an estimate.
