We contacted several carpenters on Angie's list. We emailed a picture and dimensions of the fireplace mantle that we wanted. Carl was very prompt in contacting us and setting up a date to provide an estimate. He came to the house and listened to what we wanted. He then provided a very competitive quote. What we liked in the quote is that he separated his labor costs from the cost of the wood for the project. We set-up a date and Carl was prompt and professional throughout the building of the mantles. When we saw a minor item that we wanted to change, he was quick to make the requested change. We have a painter to paint the mantles which is not included in the price above. Carl's work was top notch and we would recommend him highly.

We called Carl ,set up an appointment and met with him to discuss our project . We were very pleased with his professionalism and knowledge of how to solve all of our odd size door issues .His connection with Northville Lumber made it very easy to arrange for the quality materials that we needed .Carl and his assistant Pete scheduled the work days and promptly met each one . Their work was excellent . We couldn't be happier !

I had put off this job for several years and am now so glad I contacted Carl and have the deck completed. Carl kept to the original estimate even though the work entailed more ground preparation than was expected. He showed up promptly and kept me informed of progress. He offered several suggestions as to the layout of the deck which make it more functional. Several neighbors have commented on the quality of workman ship. I appreciate his working with a cement contractor who was replacing my driveway. Together they worked on timelines and ways to make the deck more secure from nesting animals and more aesthetically pleasing. It was easy to give Carl an all "A" report card and I would most definitely call him again myself and recommend him to friends, neighbors and Angie's list..

Carl was extremely experienced and very easy to work with.

Used Azek decking and Trex railing system. Designed and built the deck. Actual building took about three and a half days. Complied with local codes. Communicated in advance on all decisions, made intelligent recommendations, worked efficiently. Result is outstanding. Quality workmanship. Professional throughout. THIS PARTICULAR DECK WAS 26 YRS. OLD AND BEYOND REPAIR. I RECIEVED THREE ESTIMATES FOR THE JOB INCLUDING ZATSICK CARPENTRY. ONE ESTIMATE WAS $5000.00 MORE EXPENSIVE AND THE OTHER WAS ABOUT THE SAME AS CARLS, BUT HE DID NOT INSTILL MUCH COMFIDENCE IN ME AND REALLY WASNT LISTENING TO WHAT I WANTED. CARL ZATSICK CAME OUT AND LISTENED TO WHAT MY CONCERNS WERE, THAT I WANTED TO USE PRESSURE TREATED 2X4'S FOR THE DECKING WITH SCREWS NOT NAILS AND ALL CEDAR FOR RAILINGS. HE DID NOT TRY TO STEER ME INTO ANY ONE DIRECTION BECAUSE IT WOULD BE EASIER OR MORE PROFITIABLE FOR HIMSELF, LIKE USING 5/4 BOARDS INSTEAD OF 2X4'S, NAILS INSTEAD OF SCREWS, COMPOSITE MATERIAL INSTEAD OF WOOD. HE EXPLAINED THE PRO AND CONS OF EVERYTHING. HE HAS BEEN DOING CARPENTRY FOR A LONG TIME AND I COULD TELL HE KNOWS WHAT HE IS TALKING ABOUT, I KNEW RIGHT AWAY IF HIS ESTIMATE WAS FAIR HE WOULD GET THE JOB, AND IT WAS. HE STARTED THE JOB APPROXIMENTLY THREE WEEKS AFTER HIS INITIAL VISIT TO MY HOUSE AND FINISHED THE JOB APPOX. THREE WEEKS LATER ABOUT 11 DAYS LONGER THAN PLANNED BECAUSE OF THE RAIN DELAYS. DURING THE CONSTRUTION I WENT ON VACATION FOR 5 DAYS AND LEFT THE HOUSE OPEN AND UNLOCKED SO IF NEEDED HIMSELF OR HIS PARTNER PETE COULD RESET ANY BREAKERS THAT TRIPED WHILE USING THIER SAWS, I WOULD DO THAT FOR VERY FEW CONTRACTORS BUT WITH THEM I HAD NO RESERVATIONS. HE DID FORGET A SECTION OF RAILING THAT HE WAS TO REPLACE AND WAS PART OF THE ORGINAL ESTIMATE. I DID NOT REALIZE IT MYSELF UNTIL AFTER I PAID HIM IN FULL. NO PROBLEM, HE CAME BACK AND BUILT THE RAILING IN LESS THAN A WEEK LATER. IF YOU WANT A REAL PROFFESIONAL CARPENTER, WITH CARL ZATSICK CARPENTRY YOU CAN BE SURE OF THREE THINGS. (1) JOB WILL BE ESTIMATED AT A FAIR PRICE. (2) NO EXTRA OR UNNESSARY WORK WILL BE ADDED ON, UNLESS NEEDED. (3) ONLY QUALITY WORKMANSHIP WILL BE DONE AND QUALITY MATERIALS WILL BE USED.

Carl and his partner did an excellent job. I would definitely recommend them.

Carl and I communicated by phone and email as we waited for the weather to get better so he could do this project. While we waited he arranged for me to order the needed door by phone from the lumber supply. Even though he took care of setting it all up, there was no additional mark-up, just the normal cost of the door. He brought it with him exactly at 8AM on the appointed day and did the job in a one day. He took our old window away when he left and cleaned up any sign of work being done. I liked doing business with Carl and would definitely call him for any new projects that come up.

Left a few things undone, do not pay him in full before the job is COMPLETED, would not hire again. Had to hire another contractor to finish the job.

He did not quote the entire scope of work, and that is why I didn't go with him. I wanted one contractor to do my basement, and remodeling the upstairs. He gave me a quote just for one job because he had other jobs during the duration of the job. Carl is a good guy, and I found him on Angie's List.

He was a really nice guy. He was very responsive. He brought his electrician and his plumber. We called to let him know that we chose to go a different direction due to the estimate. It was not a huge difference and he was very polite when we told him and he even asked what the difference was in a very polite way. I would have felt comfortable using Carl.

He provided estimates for both cedar and composite decking materials. He was friendly, professional, and called back several times to see if we had questions for him. He spent a good amount of time at our house answering many of our questions. Out of about 4 different estimates we received, his was the lowest. In addition, he is the only person that asked to look under the deck to assess the condition and design of the base structure. We felt very confident in his ability to do a quality job. Unfortunately, we had to postpone the work, so we were unable to complete the project with Carl.

Carl was very honest about what he could or couldn't do and pointed out something we hadn't noticed. I believe someone else might have taken the job and not done a good job. I will consider him in the future for other work.

The new deck is great, and Carl was very accomodating to design changes as the building progressed. Carl made no price additions after the initial quote despite the modificiations that came up along the way. The only down side was Carl's lack of design experience, which resulted in less design recommendations that a more experienced deck builder may have been able to provide. Overall, our experience was great, and we would recommend Carl to friends.

Carl was very professional, prompt, dependable and courteous. He came out the same day I called for an estimate and didn't change his price by the time the project was complete. I am 100% satisfied with the end result, I highly recommend Carl and wouldn't hesitate to use him in the future.

It was hard to get an appointment with him because he was so busy, but I felt it was worth the wait. Carl walk me through his assessment slowly and professionally. He was the first person I called to look at the deck who actually went through the trouble of looking at the foundation beams. His quote came back a bit high for what I was willing to shell out at the present time, but I would strongly consider using him when I do decide to move forward.

Unfortunately he was not able to perform the work but offered several suggestions on which we followed up on to our satisfaction. Will call him if I need work performed.

I asked Carl Zatsick to give me an extimate on replacing our deck with a Trex deck in early July 2013. He came out and looked at the old deck and said he would get back to us with a quote. He did not get back to us, so I called him a few weeks later to see if he was interested in the job. He told me he could give me a labor quote, but couldn't get a material quote yet. I asked him to give me a quote once he had all the information. He never responded to my request.

Scheduled consultation 3 weeks in advance. Agreed on an appointment date, but stated I would not be there, my husband would be. We received a call the evening before and the day of the appointment, however he did not show up. It was unclear why he had called or if he required verbal confirmation of appointment. My husband works nights and did not get the message and in the morning of the appointment, he did not show, though my husband was home waiting. We were disappointed.

Carl did a great job. He does the work himself with the assistance of 2 or 3 helpers. He is a polite and responsible professional with an artistic flare who knows exactly what he is doing. He seems to manage his work load very well so that he was able to honor his timing commitments. He demonstrated a great depth of experience on design and product options and we were were well served by his advice. I would use Carl again without hesitation. He is the real thing. Thanks Carl.

If possible, I would give this business an A-/B+. I was really impressed by the reviews for Carl Zatsick and contacted him for a quote for a porch addition and deck. He indicated that he was quite busy and would not be able to get to me for about 2 weeks. I agreed and we scheduled a time for the last Sunday in July. He called on Friday to get directions to my home and I gave him the info. Then I called on Saturday to make sure he was still coming and he confirmed that he was. However, later on that day, he called back and said that the person he worked with lived quite a ways from me and did not want to travel that far to do the work. I chose his company in the first place because the reviews showed that he had done at least 6 jobs in my area. So when he indicated that my location would be an issue, I was very surprised. But he did recommend someone else and asked if it would be ok for that person to call me. I told him fine. However, I have yet to receive any calls from any contractors recommended by Carl. Update: I never received a call from anyone referred by Carl.
