Best Choice Total Home Improvement is committed to providing Livonia and the surrounding area with the absolute best in home improvement services. You and your family rely on your home for comfort and security, and it’s our goal to make sure that it’s always able to give you that. We specialize in roofing and vinyl siding, but our services extended beyond that. Our professional Michigan roofing contractors are the best the area has to offer. Each of them are licensed, insured and professionally trained and experienced. And we never let the range of services we offer infringe on the quality of each one.
It went great with them. They got the work done in a day. They upgraded the roofing tile at my request and I liked the 50 year guarantee and that they provided some repairs to the wood underneath where animals had gotten in.
Description of Work: I am really looking for a few quotes by contractors who can come out and inspect my roof to see what actually needs to be done. I purchased the home in 2003, so the roof is 16 years old. Not sure how long roofs last, but I suspect some critters are starting to get into my walls through my roof.

Best Choice did an excellent job on my roof. They did the roof on my house and garage in one day. Owner Matt Kneeshaw showed up first thing in the morning to make sure everything got started off right. He answer any and all questions. The roofers were very professional making sure none the plants and shrubs around the house and garage weren't damaged during tear off and installation. I've never had a roofing crew pay attention to detail and clean up as good as these guys. I would definitely recommend Best Choice everyone. Thanks again Matt Kneeshaw.

I would never use this company if I were you. After the initial roof was put on there was a problem that the salesman, who was at my house, said they he would have fixed. I never contacted the company because the salesman told me HE was going to contact the owner and show him the pictures of the problem. After almost a month of being told that it was going to be fixed I finally gave up and called the office twice. Nobody called me back. After three weeks I wrote a letter and sent it registered and they finally contacted me. They did give me $600.00 for a vent leak that happened after the roof was done. I had to pay for a heating and cooling company to tell that my vent was fine and if they had caulked it when they did the job it would not have leaked.

Unfortunately she had a bad experience with one of my representatives who's downfall was that he was new to his position. We replaced her roof we did not do any type of siding work for her. We did not receive any calls from her into the office which is where all issues should be directed. When the letter was received at the office 8/15/19, I personally called her right away and went over the issue she had with the salesman. After my conversation with her she expressed that things were never explained that way and everything made sense. I apologized for her experience with the sales representative that she was dealing with and told her to call the office with any future worries or concerns. Tuesday August 20th she called and told us there was a leak around her furnace. We got a crew member out there that same day to look at the issue. When he evaluated the roof there were no issues with the roof but he noticed an area in the actual furnace vent that could have been leaking. He did caulk the area and explained to her what he had found. The following morning she was my first call to go over what was found. I let her know that we are not licensed to perform any work on the furnace stack but caulked it and expressed that she get it inspected by a licensed HVAC company. We found the leak which was not from the roof, paid for the service ($600.00) which we were not responsible for. We did make her aware of the issue with her very worn out furnace vent and I guess caulk solved the issue but we expressed it should probably be replaced to avoid any future issues. No one is perfect but even if the leak was caused from the roof being done we came out that same day she called and took on the cost of the repairs the next day. We were also a referral from a very happy neighbor that we did work for. We don't have many reviews on Angie's List and its disappointing when ones like this are directed to the sites that hurt the company the most. If people take notice on the internet we have many very good reviews on other sites.

The work performed on your home is important, but just as important are the men that stand behind the work. I write this review not even as a customer of Best Choice but because of my dealings with the company itself. I unfortunately hired a different company to do siding on my home. It’s a well know company that completely butchered the job. I was referred to Leon (Owner) in hopes that we could get the original company to pay for him to redo their terrible work. Leon was above all else someone of integrity. He tells you the truth and is one of the nicest people you’ll meet. He always answered or promptly returned calls, even after we couldn’t arrange for the first company to pay. From all I know, Beat Choice does terrific work, but I would hire them on the spot just based on the men behind the company.

I called Best Choice Total Home Improvement for a free estimate on a new roof. The sales rep came out to my home on 8-29-2017 and we talked about different options and I remember deciding on getting the ridge vent. I called back almost a year later to accept the proposal, but the proposal was never updated to reflect my interest in the ridge vent. I made it clear when I called that I wanted a ridge vent and not 14 can vents. The only change made to the proposal sheet that their sales rep gave me back in 2017 was the date and the total amount, which I was told was to cover inflation. I never received a contract or any other paperwork that stated what they were and were not going to do. The project was scheduled during a thunderstorm so the crew was rushed and shingled over holes they somehow put in my sheathing. They ripped the leaf guard off my gutters for some reason, destroying some of them as they tossed them to the ground when they were ripping the old shingles off. They ran their gas-powered air compressor on top of my brand new paver sidewalk which dripped oil all over it. They damaged my gutter by dropping their garbage cans on top of it while dumping their trash in the dumpster that was in front of my garage door. They never went into the attic to check if the soffit vents were cleared or if there were enough to accommodate the ridge vent they installed on my roof. They intentionally lifted the plywood off the facia board and stuffed a piece of drip edge under the shingles to make a vent at the edge of the roof above my garage because they knew there wasn't any vents in the soffits. This created a noticeable bump and a leak in my garage which I called to have investigated. They first sent out their siding contractor to fix it by pounding on the bump with a hammer for about an hour. They finally sent the roofer back out who ripped the shingles back to expose the lifted board. I took a picture of it and was told it was repaired by tearing off a couple layers of the plywood to help bevel out the bump. I took a picture from inside the attic to show the daylight shining through the gap they made. They altered my roof by cutting in a ridge vent and blocked off the gable vents at both ends of the attic without adding any soffit vents. My garage soffits never had vents cut into them, so my attic became soaking wet and full of mold after 5 months of being without any ventilation. I contacted the owners of the company who told me the problem was due to me heating my garage, despite the fact that its drywalled and insulated, rather than the fact that they failed to provide any ventilation into my attic. After proving to Best Choice Total Home Improvement that there was never any vents cut into my soffits, they began telling me that cutting out soffit vents wasn't there job. According to the manufacturer of the shingles they used on my house, they were supposed to properly install the shingles, which includes ensuring a balanced airflow in the attic. Best Choice Total Home Improvement failed to do this and refused to correct it. I had to pay a professional licensed inspector to inspect their job and write up what was needed to correct the problems, which I ended up having to pay another contractor to do because Best Choice refused to do it themselves. Despite many attempts at trying to get them to come back out to do anything, they never did and I was forced to hire another contractor to do their job. I told the owner of Best Choice that I was planning on having my township inspector come out to look at my roof. He told me afterwards that he had spoke with my township inspector prior to him coming out to my house. I suspect he must have bribed the inspector to give the report that he did because he never even went into the attic nor did he go up on the roof to inspect anything. I then hired another independent licensed inspector who didn't work for the township and was at my house for three hours taking pictures and inspecting both sides of the roof and came up with several issues, included not having any ventilation over my garage, flashing that needs caulking, shingles that need to be trimmed more around vent pipes and so on.

Response to review of roof install August 2018: Before starting any job I verify the contract with all of our customers. Upon confirming the type of exhaust that was sold to this customer, in this case can vents which was listed on the contract, the customer demanded a ridge vent. I explained that was not on his contract and disclosed certain things required with a ridge vent. One being that you have to have the appropriate overhangs to provide intake. The customer stated he had overhangs front / back and had hired another company within the past two years to install new continuous vented soffit, fascia and gutters and had plenty of intake. So I said if that was the case I could switch it to ridge vent. During the roof installation a section of his gutter was damaged and small amount of oil did drip on brick pavers both of which were taken care of right away and paid for by Best Choice. On Sunday January 6th 2019 we received a text message from the customer stating that he had condensation in his garage attic and wanted us to look at it right away. I visited his home the following morning to inspect the problem. That was when I discovered that he is using the garage as a growing facility and it was heated to roughly 74 degrees and had high levels of moisture. I told him that the current condition of the garage and insulation was in no way fit for this use regardless of the ventilation. I pointed out multiple penetrations in the ceiling, untapped drywall seams and fiberglass batt insulation in the attic. I offered that day to baffle the garage attic space and treat the mildew. I also informed him I would use a BPI Certified Firm to do the work so we could have an evaluation of the insulation and ventilation in the garage at no cost to him and that we are here to help our customers and stand behind our work. I would have no problem cutting in more venting for free but would not remove the gutters, soffit and fascia and reinstall them for free. The homeowner rightfully so contacted the building department and had the inspector out to his home to show him the issue. The inspector passed the roof with no code violations and gave the recommendation of baffles and more insulation. The allegation in his review that we spoke to the building inspector beforehand and bribed a city official is false and very insulting to both myself and the city inspector. I simply requested a copy of the inspection report which they provided. The customer seemed to be unhappy with the township's inspection and hired an independent home inspector. When completed the customer provided me with a copy of the home inspectors report. He referenced that the garage attic space is not performing as intended due to some soffit vents being chocked off by insulation and that this along with the lack of the correct amount of rafter baffles is preventing the garage attic space from staying dry. Once I received the report I offered in writing to the home owner that I would pay the company I use, to remove the wet insulation and re install new insulation to the current standards and grade he had existing for free. At that time they would also baffle and treat the attic which I offered for free the day I was at his home. The reason I wanted the evaluation done is because I know that if the insulation and air sealing is not upgraded and he continues to use the garage in this manner the condensation issue will not stop. He fails to mention in his review that his inspector also said the roof shows good workmanship in its installation. The problem here is that I will not do the soffit work for free nor would it have been free at the time of the original installation. I let him know I would share my cost on the soffit work because of the situation, but could not do it for free. I was taking on the insulation work only because of taking his word during verifying the needed intake with him when scheduling. In an email he told me that he was going to go back to the original company he hired to do the soffit work to see if they would come out and take care of this and told me to call the owner of the company he hired to see if they would split the cost with me. I again relayed that I would remove the insulation, treat the attic, baffle it and re install insulation to the existing grade for free but will not be doing the soffit work for free and again offered sharing my cost with him on the soffit work. In the form of a email I said if this is acceptable to you I would like to put it in writing and outline what we were doing and have both myself and him sign it so I could get the job into scheduling and avoid any confusion on what was to be performed. He then stated that he might as well pay someone else to do all this work and he will be sending me a bill. I apologize about the long explanation I would just like to show the public both sides of the story. We have never avoided any issues and offered to help this customer numerous times in writing.

It went fantastic. The entire experience of dealing with them from sales to site manager was positive. I was very impressed with the professionalism of all involved, especially Jeff the site manager. He told me that our roof would be done in one day, and though I was doubtful, they knocked it out. They took many measures to protect my house from falling shingles and debris, and made my yard looked clean and was magnet rolled many times over. I'd use them again for any home improvement job!!

Had to have them come out several times to do follow up. For example, their roofers did not sweep the lawn with a magnet. We had to call to have them come back and pick up about 5 lbs of nails the we're scattered in the lawn. Installing shutters was a similar problem. They also would give us a timeframe when they would be out to do the work and then not show up or call.
