Shannon Bennett and his family did a great job on this somewhat compllicated project. The work involved removing existing driveway, widening the parking area and repairing existing retaining wall. Shannon was easy to work with to get the layout right which required some back and forth with the city. The quote was competitive and the extra work that was needed was very fairly handled. I look forward to working with Bennett construction on future projects!

I hired Bennett construction to pour a new concrete patio and steps in my backyard. I had torn out an pre-existing wooden deck, and wanted to replace with something much longer lasting. While Bennett Construction wasn't the cheapest bid for the job, they were by far the most professional, and the most capable of handling all of the work associated with the job. I had a small patio that was crumbling, two old steel railings to remove, sections of aluminum siding that would have to be replaced after the railing removal, and finally the pouring of two new stairs and a small patio (15' by 12') for the backyard. Shannon Bennett assured me that his crew could handle all of the necessary portions of the work, unlike some of the other concrete people I had received estimates from for just the patio and steps. Bennett Construction is a family owned business, and the contractors' father and at least one other family member worked with the crew to demo the old railings and existing patio surface, prepare the forms, and finally pour the new patio. The entire job took roughly two and a half days, the crew was easy to get along with, worked hard, and exceeded my expectations. The original plan had called for the removal of old slate tiling from the existing patio, but due to it being stubborn, and the sub-structure in poor condition, Bennett offered to pour a entirely new cap over the entire patio (at no extra charge), and it turned out beautifully! The crew was very clean, courteous, and as the patio was beginning to set, they ever offered to let the kids put their hand prints and names into the concrete, which was an awesome touch. My wife and I love the work Bennett construction did, the backyard is much more accessible now, the state the repair work they did to the siding after removing the old steel railings makes the house look even better than when the old porch was there! We will gladly be hiring Bennett Construction for our future home improvement and construction needs.

They were great. Their work was of extreme high quality and they worked well as a team. They thought things through and made sure that as a customer, I was happy with their work. Their communication skills were good. They were very conscientious. Their price was expensive. The only thing that I was not happy about was that, when they came to work for me their price was higher than their initial estimation. I would use them in future for structural works which would require their kind of engineering expertise.
Description of Work: I used the services of Bennett Construction in April. They replaced a thirty five feet sill beam and removed a wall at my house. They also did concrete pouring.

Could not have been any happier. Work was done in two phases over two summers. In both cases work quality was excellent, professionalism was great (i.e. showed up every day and worked hard, did what they could to keep mess to a minimum, worked to be accommodating), and the company kept sight of our budget and worked hard to live with within what we were willing to spend. As a bonus the Bennetts were easy to get along with and a pleasure to have around. One of the things I most appreciated was if something was on the plan that they had concerns might not work they would wait and talk to me about it before preceding. Often they came up with a better solution than either the architect or my husband and I had thought of. (Builders I have worked with in the past have often just gone ahead and done something if it was on the plan even when they knew it would be a problem.) I have complete confidence that Bennett Construction did a great job of getting us the best house we could get for the money we had to spend. I found Shannon to be very resourceful in recommending new products that might work well for our needs. For example, we had a serious problem with heat gain in our house and Shannon recommended an insulation that was designed specifically for that problem (in addition to the cold weather insulation needed in MI). The effect has been fabulous; our house has no noticeable heat gain at all any more. Since the cost section of this review only allows multiple choice I will say that in the case of the addition there was a cost overrun on the digging of the basement. Turns out my house is on solid sand and we had cave-in after cave-in. However, they worked to save some money in other areas with some of their suggestions and we came in pretty well even. On the exterior work of the original house they came in solidly under the original estimate.
Description of Work: Complete 600 sq. ft. home addition including poured basement and in-law quarters w/ separate HVAC and plumbing. Also, on rest of house new roof (not just shingles but roof design changed too), insulation, windows and siding as well as some foundation work, re-supporting of a deck and a large retaining wall.
