Description of Work: I did not realize until they had started the job that it was $55 per man. I also let myself be talked into floor tile other than what I had already purchased and planned to have installed. It would have ended up costing me 5x more in labor. I had to cancel the service after the first day and ended up going with a different provider. Overall, it was a very uncomfortable transaction. I recently learned from a close friend that he had the same type experience. Lesson learned: don't pay for any service where you are paying by the hour and don't start any service without seeing an estimate or contract first.

Description of Work: McDowell Tile installed a backsplash in my kitchen and it looks beautiful. They were personable and professional AND kept everything clean and tidy. With all the detail and skill it took to install this multi-material tile, it was well worth the money. Thanks for a great job, Jim and Joe!

Description of Work: Not sure. Seemed congenial, but I had this uneasy feeling that he was quoting way more than what it should have been. I then did the research and indeed I was proven right. For what he quoted for uncaulking and re caulking a small shower, I had had a differ company quote for redoing the shower, and adding a new door.

Description of Work: McDowell assessed the condition of my tiled areas and proposed demolition and renewal for one area and upkeep maintanance for the other. I agreed with his assessment and agreed that he would perform the proposed work at the price he proposed. The agreement was "time and materials". |I had not anticipated the extent to which he proposed, but his removal of existing tile confirmed his assessment of the inadequacy of the original installation. His work was thorough, professional, and entirely satisfactory to me although more expensive than I had anticipated when I contacted him through Angie's List. |He was very careful to minimize dust or inconvenience during the period of his work. | |

Description of Work: Jim replaced bathroom flooring and the toilet. Old and cracked ceramic tiles were replaced around the tub and toilet. New carpeting was laid in the vanity area. Since the prior two people who did the previous work (that would my husband and me) and didn't fully know what they were doing. Jim tactically talked to us about how it is to be done. Jim did it. Description of Work: Scott did an excellent job. He communicated effectively. The job, in a bathroom, was to remove our old ceramic tile, repair the floor and lay new ceramic tile due to damage caused by an undiscovered water leak. Scott discovered mold had gone up the wall behind the toilet so removed the wallboard and insulation and replaced that as well as all the floor work. It was a big job that was done in an efficient and effective manner. We are very pleased and would hire him again. A+

Description of Work: I would not personally use this service provider again, but for reasons I would guess would not apply to others which I will not disclose. The work done was fine, and the cost appears reasonable though it was not a "deal" in any way, based on my experience. They placed 4 tiles. It took two people approximately 3 or 3-1/2 hours and he wanted to charge the same hourly rate for both of the workers even though, by his own admission, the second person was mostly there to contain dust.

Description of Work: Jim is a perfectionist and an artist. I purchased a few coupons and had him work on our home several times. If you need tile work, I recommend him. |He patched tile in our bathroom. He also installed grip bars in the bathroom. |I'm not sure exactly how much I spent all together, but it was worth it.

Description of Work: I paid for 2 hours of tile grouting/repair from the Angie's list special, for $99. I needed 6 tiles in my mudroom reset and re-grouted. I had more caulking and grout work that I wanted done so paid $360 for an extra 5.5 hours for time and materials. The work was done very professionally; Jim and his son were very pleasant to work with.

Jim tore out and remodeled master bath (he is a master tile man), also used pebble tile on upper kitchen range area, dug out crawl space area and installed tile and pea stone along with sheeting for proper water run-off, installed flag stone walkways and patio, painted, provided detailed advice to homeowner on all aspects of remodeling projects. He is meticulous, very detailed, and works from sunup to sundown on jobs. Every job has been done to perfection, and he makes sure I am happy with his ideas and/or the way things look as they progress.
