The inspection went great! Jason was very thorough on informing the buyer on what they were looking at. Also informing them on all options for repairs and expectancy on how long it should last.

In the process of buying a house in Lansing, they checked out 2 different houses. They were efficient and finished the jobs in a timely manner.

Once the inspection was over, I had additional questions. I left multiple voice messages requesting a call back. When I spoke with a person at the office (more than once), they also stated they would let the inspector know I was trying to reach him. Crickets. The inspector never returned my call. It's been nearly 6 months without any follow up from the company or the inspector. The inspector did miss a huge hole that was under a board next to the exterior basement wall. To be fair, I did not lift up the board, either, but I believe an inspector should have realized it was out of the ordinary and should have taken the time to look under the board to figure out why it was there in the first place. The hole is 2x2x4' deep. I had to deal with a flooding problem in my basement the first month I moved in. I liked the inspector, but I feel he should have been a bit more thorough. I give 3 stars due to the lack of communication and follow up request after the inspection. A friend of mine bought a house soon after I did and I recommended she go with another company even though AI has good Google reviews.

I was a bit hesitant to use Les after reading his recent reviews on Angie's List. I cannot tell you how happy I am that I went through with him as the inspector. He was there before me; he spent 2 hours going through the entire house with us and answering all the questions I had. I would recommend him to everyone if they want a thorough no BS inspection. I am not sure why the other feedback is so negative because he was excellent for us.
Description of Work: He did a complete inspection of our new house. It was thorough and informative.

Like others have reported here, when we arrived there was a ladder up against the house to the roof. Every, EVERY tap in the house was open, full blast. There was water all over the kitchen floor; the right side of the sink leaked, like a sieve and the water went right in the basement. My first thought was, why was this water allowed to flow to the extent of flooding!??Fortunately, we were there to help a friend, he doesn't have as much experience and you should never go through this alone. If you hire this contractor, make sure you bring someone else, because he talks so fast and glosses over so many things, that had we not been there, much would have been missed. For example, water stain in the ceiling..he had an excuse, that I can't remember, but that it was okay now....later he said that there was no evidence that there had been any leaking in the attic..well then where did this stain come from? There was mold and lots of it in the corners of the basement. He said it was old staining; our friend looked at it, touched it and his hand came away wet; I said, this is not old, there is active water seepage...where is it coming from?, especially since it hasn't rained in three weeks! He said that all the outlets worked, but he never tested them and we found more than a couple of light switches that didn't work. He also check the electronic thermostat, said it didn't work, but just change the batteries. While he was rushing through explanations with our friend, we did we look carefully and found mildew on all of the floor joists and in the attic; it was scary how much he rushed through things. He pointed out the obvious, faucets leaking, need a new hot water heater and roof, but he glossed over some very big things! He kept talking about the basement walls being sealed, but in order to really deal with a basement, you have to excavate around the entire foundation, seal and tile. His recommendation was to put extensions on the downspouts and grade the landscaping outside. I could go on and on, needless to say, he was a fast talking, gloss over, poor inspector. The worst part was the report. It's a multiple choice thing and almost everything was marked...SATISFACTORY!! Things were far from satisfactory, this house is a disaster and it failed in our estimation, but the inspection report shows otherwise. Our friend had him give estimates to fix the things that we actually found!..$40,000; yet he found things to be satisfactory. Thank goodness he's going to back out of this deal and not get stuck. Do yourself a favor, hire someone else.

In 2011 I purchased my first home. Jason Murton came highly recommended by my real estate person. He was at the house before I got there with a ladder set up, a radon detection kit set up in the basement, all faucets running, very prepared. He was very friendly and had a nice personality. However, I felt he rushed through the entire process, speaking very fast, not giving much opportunity for me to take notes or ask many questions. He pointed out what I consider to be silly things like my air conditioner not being 100% level, or the fact that I needed a digital thermostat installed and that I needed springs on my storm doors. Two months after I moved in, I noticed that one of my windows was leaking underneath the trim. I pressed against the wall and it was just mush. Now seven months later, four of my windows show signs of leaking. Feeling/looking underneath the trim, the wood is rotted and has been for some time. This is not a new problem and one that, now looking back, is something I feel that Jason should have noticed. I have had two "handy men" over that told me within 5 minutes of looking at the windows that are not the right size. I feel like that is something a home inspector should point out. I was also told my basement didn't leak. It leaks.

He showed up on time, performed the inspection and gave us a written report which was pretty much 'multiple choice.' He told us the furnace should probably be replaced since the heat exchanger was cracked, the furnace was 20 years old, and replacing the heat exchanger wouldn't make sense. Fine. We understood, had an idea of how much was involved. It was the only serious problem he found with the house, and we went ahead and bought it. He did not tell us, and we subsequently found that a corner of the foundation had failed, and the house had sunk, and probably was still sinking in that area, causing slab heaving, a crack in the foundation wall, cracks in the brick facade and a tilt in the roof. A mess costing thousands to repair! He did not tell us that frame in a dormer was rotten, causing a leak in the roof, and will have to be repaired at a cost of five hundred. He did not tell us the water heater was leaking and would have to be repaired (replaced according to the contractor since the water heater is also twenty years old), another large expense. He did not tell us that the wooden shelf under the sink is rotten through, had been covered by a slab of wood not even nailed down, and will cost plus/minus six hundred to repair. I dread to think what else he did not tell us...did not find since he went through the house like a dose of salts marking up his multiple choice sheets...and that will be revealed as months go on. If he had done his job with even marginal competence we would not have bought this house. As it is, we are stuck and I totally blame him (Jason Murton) and his colleague (boss?) Les Van Alstine, both of DeWitt, MI and advise anyone looking for home inspectors in the Lansing Michigan area to avoid this company...Accurate Inspections, DeWiit, MI...as you would dose of plague.

Jason did an excellent job. No only did he educate us on the home and workings, but he also gave us tips on cleaning and money saving ideas. Very professional and knowledgeable. I feel like he went above and beyond just doing the inspection.

By the time we arrived at the house, Jason was already there and had a ladder set up, because he had already checked out the roof, and other areas around the property. He was very professional and told us in front of our realtor that he only works for us (home buyers), not the realtor, and could care less if we bought the home or not. Jason knows his stuff and was very thorough. We visited every room in the house and he pointed out and discussed things I've never heard of before. Needless to say, it was a very educational experience. He told us how we could make some of the needed repairs on our own to save money, things we shouldn't do, and tips on how to remove some insect pests. An 18 page inspection report was provided to us that detailed everything he inspected and informed us on repairs that should be taken care of first and some products he recommends because he uses those products himself.

They were excellent. I can only repeat what others have said. Both of them were extremely knowledgeable and professional. They explained everything and answered all of the questions I had. I would highly recommend them to anyone who's looking for a home inspection before buying a house. They're awesome!

Top notch service. We had Jason and Les come to our proposed property within 1 day of calling for an appointment. Jason was on time and did a very through home inspection. Any questions he answered, sometimes two times because my dad who can't hear really well was there and we wanted him included, he answered honestly. He had solutions for small issues and recommendations for lots of things. How to fix things ourselves and who to call for help on those items we cannot do ourselves. He told us we have hired him for life so we may call anytime to discuss home issues. He gave us an 18 page written report on our inspection. It is very detailed. We could not have been happier. Les did our pest inspection and he was also right on time and just great. Great sense of humor and fabulous explanation to my husband about pest control. These folks just did an outstanding job from start to finish.

The best way to sum up the experience is that Accurate Inspections takes the time to make sure the client knows exactly what the good and bad of a property are, inside and out. They make sure to listen to the clients concerns and question the client about how handy they are in order to assess if the client can potentially save some money by fixing some of the non-contractor items on their own. They make sure the clients REALTOR is fully informed of the issues in and outside the property. Best of all, they will call you back when you have questions about items pertaining to the property.
Description of Work: Les and Lonnie performed a full home inspection of a property for some clients purchasing in East Lansing. I have utilized Accurate Inspections almost exclusively because of their policy of working for the customer buying the property, not a real estate agent. They have ASHI certification which by my analysis is the best in the business. They do not pull any punches and are there to answer questions and give advice to the client long after the inspection. They fully review the property and provide an unbiased report to the client after the inspection. Many of my compatriots are unwilling to utilize their service because they tell it like it is with no sugar coating. This can sometimes lead to the client walking away from the deal, which means going back to square one. This is not what some agents want to do. Frankly, I'd rather have a client walk away from a house than get stuck with a money pit.
