Kerns was very personal and actually came out and gave an estimate about a month and half ago; because my mother is on a fixed budget, she delayed returning the signed contract until she could assemble the money. Still, they were very personable, respectful and prompt about the job. Both she & I are very pleased.

I thought they had excellent pricing. The workers who came to do the work in my house were very clean cut and very nice. They did everything I asked them to do and they even did few odd things that were not added in our contract. Everything was really done very well. I would recommend them to others.

I had a terrible time with them and had to cancel the whole job. I told them even before he came out that if they can’t do it by a certain date plus allow the time for the cement to get hard, don’t even talk to me because I have a big party. It would be of no use later. They said that they would see what they can do. They came out and gave me an estimate. I again asked them if it would be definitely done by that time. He said that it would be done. We had a contract that it would be done by the 30th of June. By July 1st I kept calling and didn’t get an answer. Then I got a hold of them. He said that he never promised me that and that they could come out on the 7th of July. The party was on the 10th of July. I told them that there won’t be enough time for curing. He said that just one day was enough for it and not to just put any chairs on it. I said that was not possible as I was having a party. Then the son was supposed to call me, but he never called me. Finally I left a message to cancel the contract. He called me after the holidays around the 7th of July and said that they could fit me in. I told them not even to bother. He was rated highly. The salesman was very nice till he got the quote and then afterwards it was a different story. He got angry with me on the phone. Initially they were responsive and answered my calls in two days, but later they didn’t return my calls. He was late for the appointment.

Gave us some great ideas as far as options for something different. We got the patio door with the blinds in the door - looks real good and we are no longer banging into the blinds as we walk by since the door is close to the table in our kitchen nook. We changed 4 double hung windows into 2 casements on the ends and a solid window in the middle. And the last change we made was casements instead of double hungs on the sides of the bay windows. We also opted to leave out the gird we have in the old windows and on the bay window got beveled etching on the outside. So I give them a 5 out of 5 for creativity. As far as putting the windows in, the guy who does that for them has been doing it for years. They were very polite but they did crack one window sill and replaced it(we had to paint it though). And weeks after we noticed that they gouged another sill. So I would give then 4 out of 5. My only big complaint was the salesman. He would not return our calls with questions we had and was very unenthusiastic. I would rate him 2 out of 5.Overall, 2 years later we still love the windows. We are saving energy, they look nice and are easy to operate.

After they presented the quote, I agreed and signed. was told they would get back with me to set a date for repairs. After not hearing from them for 10 days, called and left 3 messages. No return phone calls from Richard Rice. Called again and asked for the owner. Sandy, said she could help me, explained the problem to her, was told she would get right back with me. Did not hear back from her, called and left her a message and never heard from her again, either! Guess this company is just to busy to bother returning calls or doing what they say

I would recommend them to anyone. They are great.

We had them come out and we were very happy with their work. They never asked for a dime until the job was totally completely. We had a small instance where we had a bit of a problem with the work that they did and it was outside of the estimate to get it fixed. We called them and they came out and resolved the problem. We were not charged an extra penny for resolving the issue. They cleaned up after themselves. They were very professional. It's a family business. We were very happy with them and in fact, we have called them back for an estimate for additional work. Their price was at the same range that anybody else would ask for the job.

Great- had ti come back twice due to painting we were having done. No extra or hidden charges.

I received a quote from Kearn's on roofing for my house and garage. Sales rep was courteous and prompt, took time to explain everything and answer questions. Kearn's gave me the lowest quote out of the 4 I received, went with second lowest based on friends recommendation.

No work was performed. The scheduled visit to my home did not happen. The rep told me when I phoned Kearns that I was outside the service area.

They were very reliable. They did very good work. They were here when they said they were going to be here. They were quick and their clean up was awesome. The people who came to do the work were very polite and helpful. I did have a major issue with something, but they corrected it. I would use them again in the future if need be.

We have decided to go with another firm. They were two things that attracted us to get a quote from them. A local handyman has a news paper article and he mentions Kearn's in it quite a bit. They were also rated highly on Angie's List and the home builder show so we were highly impressed. Those were the three reasons why we got a quote. We got another quote from another group. They seemed to have the same quality and family owned. The owner came out to give us the quote and seemed to be a little cheaper to what seemed to us to be the same quality. They were very good and they were here on time.

They are good. There were no issues whatsoever. They did very good work. They already did some work for someone else in my condo. They were right on time.

It is good. They are very thorough as far as their installation and in meeting my needs.

It turned out great. They were able to finish it all in one day. The installers were quite friendly. I worked with them to get everything done.

TOTAL LACK OF COMMUNICATION!!! Signed the contract on 10/22/10 with Richard Rice of Kearns Brothers (734-421-0555). Called at least twice before 12/2/10 to find out when they would start, and NEVER received a call back. They sent me their bill "Due on Receipt" in December, which I refused to pay. They replaced the window on 1/17/11. At least twice, they called and said they would be out to finish the other work, and then they didn't show and didn't call. They replaced the gutters and trim on 2/28/11. Water leaked into the house twice before the holes in the roof were added on 3/24/11. This job took OVER 5 MONTHS since signing and OVER 2 MONTHS from start of installation to end. Unbelievable!!! Workers were professional, polite, and did quality work, but talking and scheduling with Richard Rice was impossible. And guess what? I received my bill on 3/31/11.

Kearns Brothers was very good. They are local and they had done some other work for us before. They are prompt, the price are fair and they do good work.

They were very responsible about taking care of a few small problems that arose. I am very happy with how the house looks now.

There were some very good and some rather poor parts to our experience. First, we said we really needed the work DONE by the end of September, as we would have to halt anything that was being done during the first two weeks of October. Given that information, they did not begin until the middle of September, though we had signed the contract several months earlier. When they first arrived, they were like ants on the house, and accomplished a lot in the first few days. The project manager was assuring us that most of the work would be done before October. Wrong. It became a nightmare of hounding them to get things done. While we live on the other side of town from the office, I thought it odd that frequently the workers did not arrive until almost 11 AM, and they left by 4:30 (except at the end when they were trying to complete the job, with the owner of the company making all kinds of apologies to us). Many weeks we would be lucky to see a few workers for a half day once or twice a week, and it was not the fault of the weather. The company does business in an odd manner, not taking a deposit. I also think that was part of the start-up problem, as they did not order our doors until right before the work began. Then they changed the brand from the original plan, and they still didn't arrive until about 2 weeks after the rest of the house was done! In their defense, Kearns did not collect anything from us until a fair amount of the work was done. However, it took two months and a lot of nagging for the job to finish, once they did begin. Good points: They discovered that the header on our Florida room and above two garage doors needed replacing due to water damage, and dealt with those issues promptly and at a fair price. The onsite supervisor and I talked about how to make the Florida room exterior, which was a mess, look better, and the improvement is great. The siding job was done nicely, and the few problems we pointed out were addressed. The drywall work is decently done. The work crew did a great job of cleaning up every day and at the end of the job. Bad points: the roofing crew took our good ladder that they borrowed. The owner of the company gave us his own, almost new ladder. Same brand, but a heavier, construction grade ladder that is too heavy for me to lift. The salesman/project manager was very hard to catch on the phone, and bad about returning calls. The windows were supposed to have earthtone grills to match our existing windows, and arrived with plain wooden grills. Also, I had wanted the casement handles to fold out of the way of window treatments, and they ordered the old style cranks that did not. So there was a delay while we waited for the replacement Andersen cranks and while they painted the grills to the color I had ordered from the start. I would encourage anyone who thinks of hiring this, or any other company, to go for written specifics on the items to be used, time line and payment plan. While Kearns did not argue about the window grills or handles, it was an unnecessary delay that writing down details could have avoided. The house is vastly improved from what it looked like before Kearns Bros. did the work. They did address the leakage issues, and were responsive to our requests, but the malingering on completion of the job left us with a less than perfect impression and experience. The price for the amount of work done and quality was reasonable.

They were pretty good and it took two days to get the job done. They were on time every day and the price was pretty reasonable; they came in at about half the price as another estimate I got. The outcome was pretty good and I like the result. The old porch was pulling away from the house so they checked the foundation to make sure that wouldn?t happen again. They were well-mannered, they answered questions if I had them, and I think I would use them again.

Bottom line is I got an outstanding roof and good looking new gutters; really liked their design for vented drip edge. Estimate was on the pricey end of but I think they know what they're doing when it comes to roof installation and attic ventilation. They are also a good size, established company. Workers were courteous, knowledgeable. I recommend Big Ike's Roofing if you want another estimate. Bad news: it was an adventure getting the job done, maybe two dozen phone calls from start to finish. Estimator was late, had to call multiple times to schedule the job, phone calls weren't answered, new gutters needed rework, shingle delivery left tire marks on driveway and brick walk, masonry repairman poured acid wash in the lawn, soffet vent installers left paint overspray on the sidewalk, workers didn't step-up to leaving problems before I found them afterwords. Kerns Brothers can leave a real quality job but you have to keep an eye on them and inspect the work yourself.

Everybody was very nice, prompt and helpful on the phone. The crew that came in was cordial and clean. When they left, we didn?t know they were here, except that the cabinets looked a lot better. I was happy with the work. They have a long-standing reputation. Actually I know a lot about them, not personally though. I was talking to a friend who recommended that I talk to them about this particular job. There is not much they cannot do. They?re very professional, cordial and budget conscious. The price was fine. They gave me a price, and they charged me what they said they were going to. The quality was fantastic. They talked to me, looked at the problem, told me what they were going to do and told me how much it was going to cost. They did everything they said they were going to do. I would rate them highly and would use them again in the future. I would recommend them too.

It turned out fabulous. They were on time, professional, they cleaned up after themselves, and their work was great.

We are very happy with the quality of their work. Our house has somewhat unique bricks, and they found a very good match to rebuild the chimney top. When they got here they were fast, accurate, and cleaned up really well once the job had been completed. Only (minor) negative is the amount of time between the signing of the contract and the completion of the job, mostly due to the difficulty to get in touch with them and some misunderstandings. Their secretary is wonderful, but the sales people can take more than a couple of days to get back to you. We also had some problems with the person in charge of finishing the interior of the skylights. We ended up hiring our own person, and Kearns adjusted the final price accordingly. In summary, we would hire them again, after making sure we have plenty of time available to follow their work and manage unexpected issues.

Called to have someone come out and give me an estimate on repairing roof overhang which was sagging, tuckpoint the entire brick exterior, and new windows for the entire house. The sales consultant, Sean, came out and discussed my options for the repairs and windows. He was on time and professional durng the visit, and he said he would provide an estimate the next day. I never got the estimate, and over the course of the next two weeks ended up calling their office three times to get the status of the estimate--each time being told I would receive a call right back as soon as someone was available to speak with me (by the way, I live less than a mile from their office). I never did receive a call back regarding an estimate. However a day after my last call someone from their office did call and leave me a message asking how everything was going and if I was sastisfied with their service. At that point I had already made the decision to go with another company---so I can't rate them on quality of work or pricing. I wasn't aware that in this economy companies could still pick and choose which jobs they want to work on, but I didn't think this was a small job to begin with (the company I did end up going with quoted me $15,000 to build a new front porch overhang, reroof the entire house, install two skylights in the kitchen, put in new windows, and tuckpoint the entire exterior). Overall their customer service is lacking, and I wouldn't recommend this company to anyone. Update 10/29/2010 After reading Kearn's Brothers response, I wanted to clarify a few things. The scope of work was clear and defined when Sean left my house: fix the roof overhang, tuckpoint the brick, and windows. I can't see how there was ever any doubt about this. And since I was told I would be e-mailed an estimate the very next day, I would assume that to mean the scope was defined well enough to actually provide an estimate---not sure how anybody can argue that. I'll admit I never asked for the estimate to include a new roof or skylights as I mentioned in the price from the other company I went with above, but everyone else that came out to give me an estimate for fixing the overhang actually went on the roof to assess the condition and recommended that this be completed at the same time since damage to the shingles from fixing the overhang was very likely. The fact still remains that I never received any feedback or estimate. I'm sorry your company feels that I am even partly responsible for not receiving this estimate, especially since I put in the effort to try to make contact with you several times regarding this.
