I called the company to get an estimate for having my home re bricked, gutters replaced and new siding. The sales representative, Gary, came to my home and spent about 2 hours looking at the job and talking with my husband and me. Gary said he would give us an estimate in a couple of weeks. After two weeks, we got an email from Gary stating that he only spent about an hour working on the estimate but would have it done in a few days. We patiently waited a few more days and still didn't get a call. I finally called the company and asked to speak with Gary. I was told that he was in the building and they would leave a message for him to call me back as soon as possible. It's been almost 3 months and I still haven't received a call.

He offered his apologies via the phone and followed up with an email again apologizing for this poor customer service, "While I can assure you our intentions were good and that we meant no disrespect I cannot change the reality of the poor service." Additionally, Mike Kearns, "reviewed the paperwork and the pictures that Gary took while at your home and I'm confident we can produce an estimate for the work as you requested." Mike closed his email saying if the customers were still interested in a proposal for the work requested that he would, "work diligently on producing a proposal for you."

On March 15, 2012 my home was damaged by hail. The initial estimate provided by the insurance adjustor included replacement of the aluminum siding that was damaged. It did not include replacement of the roof. I joined Angie's list to find someone who would replace the damaged aluminum siding. Kearns Brothers, Inc. was the third business that I called. Of the three businesses who advertised on Angie's list as roofing/siding professionals, Kearns Brothers, Inc. was the only one willing to give me an estimate. When Paul Wilson came to my home on June 8 to estimate the cost of replacing the aluminum siding , he told me that my roof had also been damaged by the hail storm. He encouraged me to call my insurance company and request another adjustor come out and look at the roof while he was present. Paul and the insurance adjustor arrived at my home on June 15 to assess the roof damage. The insurance adjustor agreed that the roof needed to be replaced. Shingles were dropped off on August 23. The roofers began the job on Aug 24. When I came home the roofers were a few shingles short. They returned on Saturday Aug 25 to finish the roof. Paul replaced the aluminum siding on August 29. I was concerned that the color would be hard to match, but the new piece of siding matched perfectly. If it had not been for Paul, I would not have been able to replace my roof. He was professional, courteous and knowledgeable about how to negotiate with the insurance the company on my behalf. Thank you Paul! Thank you Kearns Brothers, Inc.

They were thorough and timley. They sent the wrong color shingles to my dad's by mistake and quickly and professionally brought the right ones. No fuss. The job they did was so good I hired them to do my roof and attic insulation. I am very happy!

The shingles were delivered on Friday. At 8 am the crew arrived and removed the old roof and installed the new roof. The total time was about 5 hours. The clean up was better than I expected. I was happy.

The roof installation is a good one. The gutter capacity is smaller than the old gutters that were removed . I had a serious leak in my kitchen several years later to which Kearns Bros. attributed to the new gutters. Twice within a year it was raining from my kitchen cabinets!. The salesman came out, inspected, and gave me several reasons for the leak: the siding; the framework; commercial gutters and downspouts should be installed; the gutters should be cleared more frequently. After the second kitchen monsoon, a troubleshooter assessed the situation, and presented me with a report that the gutters were backed up. In addition to clearing the gutters more frequently - my part of the solution - it was suggested in the report that Kearns Bros. adjust and extend several downspouts - their part of the solution. Needless to say, I am now clearing my gutters on a more regular basis. There has been no follow-up as to their suggested responsibilities. By the way, the above is still under warranty. In my case, Kearns Bros. showed a smiling face when writing up the order and turned into the evil twin when a problem was reported. I would not - repeat - would NOT use them again!

I have reviewed our data base communication file and spoke directly to the sales agent and service department personnel who have surveyed and serviced this client. In July of 2004 we installed the GAF Weather Stopper Roof System and installed new seamless aluminum gutters for our client. In September of 2011 we were contacted by the customer because of a leak in her kitchen. We discovered what we believed to be the problem: clogged gutters which the sales agent cleaned at that time at no charge to our client. In July of 2012 we were contacted again by the customer for the same situation. At that time, we cleaned the clogged gutters again and provided an estimate for a gutter protector to help keep the gutters from clogging and that proposal was not accepted by the customer resulting in the need for regular clearing of the gutters of debris and eliminating her leak problem

We have had to have other companies come in to redo the work that this company did. I would advise people to be aware of this company. They are nice in the begining when they have your money but when you are trying to get them back to repair or fix someting correctly they do not follow through. They seem to make promises they cannot keep.

from Mike Kearns: I have worked many times for the customer's since I roofed their home in 1992 and they have been very good clients as well as nice people. We have also done siding work ( 1993) , window replacement ( 1995) , the balance of the windows (2000) and a kitchen remodel / family room remodel in 2003. They called for service on a roof leak in 2011 and we went out that same day and tarped the area at no charge. After investigation it was determined that the leak occured at the intersection of the flat roof and siding on the dormer , installed in 1992. As they have been such good clients , we tore off the flat roof and the siding in that area and replaced the complete flat roof with a new roof and installed new siding at no charge. I made a follow - up call with the client and they were satisfied with the work completed and I felt we went over and above by replacing a 20 year old installation.

After getting 5 other estimates I chose Kearn Brothers. They were not the least expensive nor the most expensive. I was comparing apples to apples from all companies. What made me choose Kearn Brothers was- 1. The salesman was patient and informative. 2. They provide a complete written estimate. 3. The salesman did not take offense that I was getting other quotes. 4. They are higher rated on the manufacturers website by consumers- 5. They had the highest certifications for roofing from the manufacturer. 6. They offered the highest warranty of any of the roofing companies at no extra charge 7. They were selling the product/brand that I was looking to purchase. 8. They have an office staff that provided answers when they could - or they provided a quick call back from the sales rep. My roof looks great. My attic has alot more insulation. I am hopeful for lower energy bills! The crews that came to my home were professional and courteous My only knock on Kearn's is that the sales rep would not apply any money off for the Angie's List coupon. I joined Angies List after my first estimate and he did not give the additional discount. Also- I did not get the 40 point inspection as listed in the companies warranty.

Positive experience from start to finish. Kearns Bros. was not the cheapest estimate that I received, but they were the only one that went up on the roof to take measurements and inspect the condition of my existing roof. The salesman explained the entire installation process. The installation crew showed up when promised and finished by the end of the day. After they cleaned up, you could not tell that they were there. Any questions I had were answered to my satisfaction.

The workers are hard-working and responsible. There were a few things that were not communicated to them and we had to show them the actual contract to get the insulation we had asked for. Again, this reflects back on the manager. We do recommend them with one caveat: stay on top of the work.
Description of Work: We are pleased with the work and the price was better than the other roofers' we consulted. We are disappointed with the manager's level of professionalism. He left the company two days after our job was completed and never returned our calls regarding the inflated amount he charged on our invoice for the cost of wood. This remains to be negotiated.

They were only allowing four 4 x 8 sheets of plywood if anything would be rotted under the shingles or deck. The other company was going to give me ten sheets with the quote. So that was a big difference. Kerns was actually very expensive. I would rate them overall a C. The salesman did a good job but the pricing was bad.
Description of Work: In July, Kerns Brothers came out to give us an estimate on the roof, and a new deck, two new sky lights and a gutter. They were going to use a Timberline Ultra-high Slate shingle which is not an A-rating.

Kern's was horrible from start to finish. The salesman lied to us, just to make the sale. The "boys" that came out to do the mortar repair work, didn't really do much, and it started to rain. They said they would be back once it stopped raining, but never came back. When they "boys" and one adult male came to do work on the inside of the fireplace and outside of the fireplace, they asked if i could put the T.V. on because there was a big football game going on. I said no, and the were very rude from that point on. The crew that did the roof job were very unprofessional and left behind a mess of cigarette butts and nails that i had to clean up. We were told that Kern's does not contract there work out, which is a lie. The gutter company they sent out to finish the roofing job told me they just wear Kern's shirts and put a magnet from Kern's on there trucks. We have had 4 major leaks in the house shortly after Kern's did the work. When we called them out to fix the 1st leak that happened 2 months after they did the roof, they sent out 2 boys with a couple of tubes of caulk to fix the huge problem of water coming into our home. I never called them back out to repair any of there other mistakes, and have spent a small fortune fixing them with other companies.
Description of Work: We had Kern's put on a new roof on the house and garage, also some work on the front bay window, chimney/fireplace and some mortar repair on three sides of our brick house.

Yes, work was completed in SEPTEMBER 2004. According to our record, the members contacted us July 29, 2004, we set an appointment for August 14 8-10 in the morning, reviewed the scope of their project(s) and on Friday September 17, 2004, they accepted and signed a contract for roofing and gutters. The roof was installed less than a week later on Sept 23 and the gutter installation the following day September 24. The member came to our office on the 24th and paid in full completing this contract. We were then contracted by the members to clean their chimney and tuckpoint the interior of their fireplace. That job was completed and paid for on the same day. In October of 2004, we were again contracted by the members to tuckpoint the exterior of their chimney. The work was performed in the beginning of November and paid for two weeks later. In November of 2005, one year later, we were contacted by the member for an estimate to update their rear porch enclosure. That is the gist of the interaction with the clients at this address and I was not able to find any concerns regarding the workmanship in our communication/feedback files on any of the jobs we were contracted for. We have an open book policy seeking and encouraging feedback from our clients. At the completion of EVERY job we send a pre-addressed, postage paid survey card seeking feedback so we can communicate to our team the highs and lows..areas of excellence and areas of concerns. This is the first I have heard of anything so negative about this series of jobs. It is somewhat difficult to address a situation that is 8 years old, but I will do my best gkearns

I thought they did well until I looked up and saw that the shingles were popping off not too long after the job was done. I had to call them out for that and then I had to call them out recently for the way they put the shingles on the ridge. The gentleman that was my service person told it that it might have been the way the wood responded to the changes in the weather conditions. I'm still not quite satisfied with the way the roof looks.

I got two estimates but what impressed us about Kearns was that he spotted a number of areas that needed attention. It was a very mixed experience. Some of it they did well and there was a real communication breakdown. The primary communication breakdown I had with their salesman was the way he trades something. They had work done on the garage and there was still areas exposed on the garage and they were going to put the vinyl trim over everything. I asked them about the gutters and he said everything was going to be new. I thought they were going to be replacing the gutters too since they were removing it to put vinyl siding behind it. I read that and believed that there was going to be a fresh gutter too. When they actually came to do the gutter that was not what they did. In the work order there was no mention of a new gutter. That was a genuine misunderstanding. The section underneath the garage area was wood and while they were out there doing the vinyl sidings they didn’t touch the wood. I caught the fellow in charge of the job and asked if he was going to do it and said it was not on the work order. I called the salesman and he said that it was included and they did make that right. The owner’s son got involved in it. We were concerned about the durability of the concrete and driveway and he said he would give us an 18 month guarantee because that is what the state of Michigan says. The salesman said that they stand behind their work for 5 years. He said it included everything including the concrete. When it came to the payment time I asked the owners son and he said when it comes to concrete they stand behind their work for 18 months and then I told him what the salesman said. He called the salesman and he confirmed it so the owner son Mike wrote on the actual bill that the warranty was for 5 years on everything including the concrete. It was an unusual experience and to some extent they stood behind what they said. There was a breakdown in communication and all in all they were acceptable. They had a communication problem with what they were going to do and what was actually done. I will not take a verbal understanding from them because they have a communication problem. The price was pretty good. Some of them were more professional than the others. We had some issues. They had to use a crowbar to lift something up and they chipped a part of the good concrete as well.
Description of Work: We used Kearns Brothers Inc for some cement work and driveways. They did some of the sections of the concrete in our driveway and they didn’t tear out the entire driveway and redo it. They did the approach and they also did the aluminum siding on the roof of the garage.

We agreed to have the work done in early April 2012. The roofing materials were dropped off at our house on a Wednesday, and the four workers from Kearns began the work bright and early the next morning. I didn't watch every aspectof their work, but the tear-ff, underlayments, roof vents, and GAF Timberline (Lifetime Warranty) shingles - and cleanup of the entire exterior of the house (grounds and roof) was complete for our tri-level home in about nine hours.
Description of Work: Kearns Brothers, Inc. was one of four roofing companies I contacted for an estimate of pricing for a tear-off (two sets of shingles), and replacement of shingles. (As it turned out, two of the companies failed to show up for their appointment. I didn't bother to call them back, and they didn't call me either - to apologize or reschedule!) The representative from Kearns Brothers, Gary Holm, climbed up on the roof, took pictures of two areas of concern to him which - I discovered later had caused interior damage to our drywall - and made a brief presentation to me about the problems on the roof, the types of underlayments and shingles that were available to us, and his company's pricing. Gary's pricing was approximately $1,000 under the competition for the identical materials.

My neighbor had work done with them on his house. The work looked good, so I used them. I had a problem around the chimney. When I called, they sent someone out to look at it. He wanted to fix the insulation, but I wanted him to fix the problem that I had. The shingles I had put on were nice and thick, and they last a long time. I called up Gary Kearns, and he came out. He looked like he wanted to get out of here. I called him 12-13 times, and they kept saying that they were meaning to get back with me. He wouldn't stand behind his work, and the roof was leaking. I had to have someone else fix it.

We did replace the roof in April 2004 installing the GAF Grand Sequoia shingle. Six years after the installation in June of 2010 we were called by the customer asking us to remove his chimney to alleviate a moss problem he had around the chimney. I was not comfortable with performing this work because it was out of our area of expertise. Regretfully, I was wrong by not telling Mr Papp at that time we would not perform the work he requested.

I contacted the company who sent a salesperson to my home. The phone personal where friendly and set up an appointment time that was conveinent for me (in the evening as I work full time). The salesperson came on time, took rough measurements, showed me the windows available and quoted a price for the job. I at no time received a high pressure sales pitch, rather By the time he left I felt educated about the type of windows I was buying and the proper installation. In fact he even recognized that the large window with half moon topper would need extra work and in order to be done right some of my siding would have to be removed and replaced to fit the window properly. Next Bob the actual installer came out and did the final measurements. He was on time, knowledgeable and friendly. The window installation tookl place about one month after the initial estimate. Bob and his assistant worked hard and meticulously for 3 1/2 days to install my windows. They were detail orientated and did a great job. In order to properly trim and level the windows they had to leave the site to pick up more trim and shims yet i did not incur any more cost. They also cleaned the work site every day and left nothing behind. Bob even patch some nail pops that occurred and offered to touch up the paint. Last year my neighbors replaced their windows using one of those well advertised large companies. When the windows arrived the were the wrong color and had to be re ordered. They did the job in one day but a year later my neighbor is still not happy with the way the windows were trimmed and are still fighting with the company. The moral of the story...go to Kearns brothers get great windows with superb workmanship!

In the middle of the installation of the siding and insulation we had some of the heaviest rain days i have ever seen. We had a couple of small leaks in the unfinished wall. After our call, they immediately came out and flashed where it was leaking in during the rain storm.

Our recollection of this job from 1998: Yes the job was sold and yes we backed out. At that time this project was "sold" by a new sales agent. Mike Kearns made the difficult decision to back out of this job because he knew that at that time (this was in 1998) we did not have the crews that would be able to deliver on the expectations. It is always difficult to walk away from work but our reasoning is if we were not able to execute at a high skill set, the end result on this project was not going to be beneficial to our client. This is an extremely steep roof, 2 1/2 stories in the air with 9 skylights. And as we recall we had to work around their business hours...the business being a hair salon.

After dealing with the insurance adjuster and getting quotes for the repairs we chose Kearn's Brothers. Our estimater, Chuck, was even willing to talk with our insurance adjuster concerning his estimate. The roofing, siding, and gutter were done at different times by different crews. Each worker was very polite and accommodating and willing to explain just what they were doing. Their clean up was excellent. Chuck checked on the work each time. The work was done when they promised and we are very pleased with the result. We would give Kearn's an A+ and definitely use them again.
Description of Work: After a tree limb fell on our house during a storm, we needed to have the front side of the roof replaced, the vinyl siding on our 2 dormers replaced and the gutter replaced.

They did work for us two years ago. They were good. They were on time and reasonable. They did a great job. They were professional. They weren't the cheapest but it's worth it if you're doing like that for your house to make sure that you get somebody that's reliable.

They were outstanding. When they tell you they are going to do something they do it. It took Kearns Brothers one day to do the work. They are happy to come back to correct any problems that may occur. They stand behind their work. They have been in business a long time.
Description of Work: They put on a new roof and gutters for us. They stripped the roof down to bare-wood, replaced the wood and put on a new roof. At one time we may have had twenty people on our roof to get the job done.
